Palais de l'Isle is a lovely hotel, in a lovely place. We enjoyed our stay very much and would certainly recommend this hotel. We didn't rate highly on quietness due to the hotel's location next to shops and restaurants that open early and close late. But we still loved staying there, and would again.

Location is perfect, but that is the only good point. Rooms extra small, hotel very pokey, service poor, we asked desk clerk what we should do and see in Annecy and the response was " I dont know ". Very expensive. Our booking was messed up and we had to pay extra for what we originally asked for. All in all not an enjoyable experience.

Very small and cramped rooms with little equipment. Location in the old town was pleasant but very noisy during the night. No assistance with luggage from hotel staff. difficault to find hotel in the old town. Poor value for money. Will not stay there again.

We found this hotel to be well located. It had a lovely lounge for guests and the room we stayed in was very comfortable with all that we needed. The staff were very helpful and spoke excellent English.

Convenient location, but in very busy part of town. Staff were somewhat unfriendly - they couldn't help us with certain queries (ie: drycleaning of clothes). Free parking was a plus (and not too far from the hotel).

The hotel is the best choice if you want to be right in the heart of Annecy and very near the lake. Vey convinient, cause you can go anywhere in no time. The area is crowdy and busy, especially at night, but his is all about! To be in the center of the whole happening! We asked for a canal view room and we had one and I must say the view was great. The rooms are small though,we had to suitcases and we could hardly open them both. There is no reception hall and the breakfast was rather expensive. But that was no problem because we had cheap and nice breakfast at the restaurants just outside. The stuff was very helpful and polite.

Very nice place. The location was perfect and the staff was great. We were only able to stay there one night as we were in between travel days, but did enjoy the hotel and Annecy. It was a very easy walk from the train station too. The hotel was exactly as advertised. In the US they would call it a boutique hotel.

A lovely small room right in the center of the old city. There is no public space but who needs it when the beautiful quais, canals, and arcades are right outside your door?

This hotel is situated ideally over the canal in annecy...absolutely beautiful...and a great view of the alps to boot. a great holiday and the staff was courteous... but... they were reconstructing while we were there which was a real hassle (noise, smells...), they charged us 12 euros per person for a breakfast (which i thought was included) which was a total waste and they need to touch up their rooms a bit.... bottom line, enjoyed ourselves, had a great view, will certainly go again but expect the people at palais de l'isle to work at the little touches.

A delightful hotel in the best possible locatin in the centre of old Annecy. A bit noisy from delivery trucks in the square in the early morning (7am), but otherwise thoroughly pleasant. Particular thanks to the breakfast serving staff, who were unfailingly pleasant and helpful.

This was my first visit to Annecy. Hotel Palais de l'Isle is right in the middle of the old city and so it has an excellent location in terms of all the wonderful old buildings and the many restaurants. The hotel is very clean and I would highly recommend it.

We greatly enjoyed our stay in Annecy and the location of the Palais de l'Isle was great. The staff was very helpful and friendly. After spending a week in Provence this was one of our favorite parts of the trip. The only real issue we had was that we had requested a room with the canal view and it was a smoking room. No options were available for non-smoking rooms on the canal. I don't know if they didn't have non-smoking rooms with a view or if they were sold out?? The room itself was fine but quite small (but consistent with many smaller European hotel rooms). It was a little difficult to find the entry gate to drive through the pedestrian area, but once we found it, there was no problem from there (look for the small access road in front of the church). We would definitely return and recommend the hotel to others.

My wife and I stayed in Annecy overnight en-route to Val D'Isere for a skiing holiday. It is a convenient stop over point and the old town is very picturesque. The Hotel Palais de l'Isle is in an excellent location and, unlike previous comments we'd read, was relatively easy to find. It was ideal for our requirements although there was a bit of street noise as you'd expect from a centrally located hotel.

The only bad thing about the hotel and our stay was the bathroom had a small tub and no type of shower curtain. The hand-held shower head was in a very inconvient place and water ended up getting all over the floor. The bathtub and hand-held shower are very poorly designed. Before staying in this hotel again, I would ask to see the room and make sure it did not have this arrangement. If nothing else was available I do not believe that I would stay here again. Other than this one aspect, the hotel room and hotel itself were very nice.

We stayed in mid October,2005. The hotel is very well located, rooms are spotless and beds comfortable. From reviews we'd read, there were no surprises regarding narrow hallways and small rooms. However, the small room we had was extremely well organized to make the most of the space and storage. The bathroom was well-appointed and contemporary. Staff recommended good restaurants in various price ranges. We found it to be a very good value and had a delightful stay. I wouldn't recommend it for older couples who have vision problems or difficulty navigating some stairs. Otherwise - it is hard to beat the location and the value for the money.

The hotel was certainly well-located next to the Palais de L'Isle in the heart of Annency. Our room was at the back, overlooking a mainly pedestrian street that happens to be the busiest in town - full of bars, shops and restuarants. While everything was in easy reach, it was potentially noisy at night, a fact that was never fully ascertained as there were heavy rains that dissolved the crowds from sundown onwards. The room was compact, but recently renovated in a minimalist style with hardwood laminate floors and stark furnishings. Not in the era of the exterior of the hotel, but very clean and functional with A/C to override any exterior noises that there were. We had the hotel breakfast, which offered an acceptable choice of croissants, rolls, meat and cheeses, coffee, juice, etc. and which was cheerfully served. The only real complaint was the difficulty accessing the hotel A map was provided, but when we arrived it was sunny and the area surrounding the hotel was jammed with people. The instructions on how and where to gain the final access to the hotel were extremely confusing and unclear, resulting in many missed passes of the specific area and the frustration of dealing with honking horns and irritated and immovable pedestrians. In the end we parked the car in the Hotel de Ville underground parking (which was subsidized by the hotel)and walked our luggage the final block and a half. Unless you are overwhelmed by bags, this is probably the best suggestion for access. Overall the hotel itself was just fine; the price a bit high - but that was obviously based on on its location at the centre of Annency's historic district.

Access was difficult - it's better to not try to drive there by car, especially when it's busy on the canal - but the location was first rate, and service and accommodations were lovely.

The Palais d'Isle hotel is nice, clean, & modern inside. We ate breakfast out & did not see any public rooms; they must have been on a differnt floor. Hotel is located on a canal/river in the old town among many restaurants & overlooks the tiny Palais (former prison) -- a spot that is photographed & painted by artists all day. The beautiful Annecy Lake is about a block away. My view from a 2 person "luxury" room overlooked the Palais & was very nice, but the room was small. Noise (people talking late at night) in the main square kept me awake (but my partner slept thru it). I'd stay here again for the view & to be right in the heart of the old town. (If view is important to you, request it, as most rooms do not have a view.) The hotel is about a 20 minute walk from the rail station but you need a better map than the miniscule one provided on venere.com. The hotel can provide a better map via email at palisle@wanadoo.fr

This is exactly as advertised. A room in the center of a quaint town with restaunts below with outdoor tables which generate some noise. I objected to the garbage trucks in the morning more. Right below the chatau. A room with air conditioning which was badly needed during an out of season heat wave.

The hotel was very hard to find; there was one sign from the main street, but the way was blocked by a bollard and we had not been given instructions in advance on how to gain access. We had to park in a public lot and walk several blocks in the rain; even a local travel agent didn't know where the property was. The room was nice but rather spartan for the price of 140 euro. The staff were quite nice and helpful.

Beautiful setting. Wonderful ability to walk out into the old city and there were lots of restaurants, pubs and shops all right there in a beautiful, picturesque setting. Walking to the lake was also simple and a must do. It was hard to find the hotel and drop off luggage. They should find a better way to direct arrivals as to how to find them and park. Rooms were somewhat small, but the bed was a king and very comfortable. Decor and rest of room was very modern and well kept up, so overall the room was very good to excellent. Breakfast was fine and we also used their internet access, which was nice to have available.

One should mention that one can park before going to the hotel to one of the big underground parkings (eg. Hotel de Ville) which is very close by as it is very difficult to park anywhere near the hotel. They anyway tell you to do excatly that!

The Hotel was of a very good standard and in an excellent position for all the restaurants and shops of the Old Town. A tourist information brochure recommended some walks, most of which were lovely, but the walk up the river took you through some fairly built up areas (blocks of flats etc)and was not great

There should be clear and precise instructions to the fact that you can take your car to leave your luggage in front of the Hotel. A precise map should be send to guests. Frontdesk employee during day shift should be inside working with something not related with the guests and more so if the guest do not speak french. Poor attitude refering places or point of interests in Annecy (lucky for us that there is other people and that Annecy speaks for itself), finally she do not care if you need help with bags or anything.

We very much enjoyed our night in Annecy. The town is quite charming. The hotel is right in the centre in the pedestrian area, so the rooms look out on streets full of people eating outside. One very near by has live music. The atmosphere is great but it is rather noisy if you want to sleep before midnight. Cafes nearby offer a good alternative to the breakfast served in the hotel.

Whenever we are in Annency we stay at the Palais de I'Isle due to it being nestled right in the middle of "old town" Annency. Its lovely setting by the river is perfect. A pleasant hotel hidden away right in the middle of the old town of Annecy, surrounded by a very picturesque area and within walking distance of the lake. The room was a surprise - the corridors are narrow and the building obviously ancient, but the room was very modrn and had air conditioning. The area is pedestrian only, which is good, and secure car parking is only a stone's throw away. I'll be going back!
