The hotel is really near the centre, very good choiche for tourists! The receptionist was very kind. The room was small but quite comfortable, except for the bathroom cleanliness (we found some hair in the shower...) The bathroom is small but with a big shower. Our room was in the mezzanine and the stairs to reach it were steep and narrow: not really suitable for old people but for us this was not a problem. Anyway the rooms on the other floors are reachable also by elevator so I guess you can ask for an upper floor when making your reservation. If I'll visit Amsterdam a second time I'll choose again this hotel.

For 219euros a night( the equivalent of a 4 star motel at home)for a triple room we expected NOT to have to climb over each other's bed to reach the bathroom and did think that having a place to unpack suitcases, having a vaguely sound - proof door as well as the provision of some basic necessities such as tissues or tea-making facilities ( not even in the breakfast room)might not be unreasonable. Room service items were prohibitively expensive. The lift crawled between floors and if one took the precipitous stairs it was like a sauna. We were chastised when we checked out before 7 am (having not been able to arrange any early breakfast) for having the temerity to ring the bell in the empty office- well, people were sleeping and might wake them. A shame that attitude was not exhibited when all the people rolled back into the hotel from midnight and partied in the corridor.

A nice experience here and holland. The hotel location is very close to the Central Station and convinient for travel. Supermarket(AH) is just next to the street, a cheaper place to buy drinks and snacks, sandwiches and many thigs. Hotel staff are all welcome and give much help on our request like citytour advise, taxi call, postcards and etc.

A very nice hotel, situated 5 minutes from central station, but quietly set in a nice surrounding. One can start recommended tours through the city from the doorstep and find good restaurants within walking distance. The price is reasonable and the staff very friendly and most competent. We shall be back.

Too bad the receptionist needed a bath. Avoid ground floor rooms. The receptionist acted like she couldn't understand why I did not want a (tiny) room next to the lift, across from the stairs, next to the reception. Lift noise, plus the night receptionists and friend talking and playing music kept me awake all nite. Generally in Amsterdam, hotel staff do not understand/ are not trained to be discrete.

Very disapointed with the romm. Clean and nothing else. Plus expensive and bad management (if there is any). We tried to change the reservation, stay 2 nights and leave : Impossible to discuss, we were stuck 4 days in the hotel like hostages !.... And of course, impossible to leave a comment on the Hotel'web page..... disloyal ...... Fortunately Amsterdam has a lot of charming hotels with good professionnel... Just avoid The Singel!.. Thank you to give us the possibility to write this comment.

Nice hotel and great location (right along a canal and near Dam square). The room was too small for 3 beds. However it was clean and we even had cable tv. Breakfast was very good, with lots of things to eat and drink! Pay attention to how much money you pay at the hotel. The total price should be the price displayed on this site plus a 5% tax. If you need a taxi from the airport to the hotel or vice-versa, make sure how much the fare is BEFORE you get on the car. It should be around 40/45 euros (we paid 39,50 euros when we arrived). If it's more, they are probably cheating you! On our way back to the airport we paid 58 euros! The taxi was called by the guy at the reception desk, who had told me that the fare was 45 euros... I noticed that he knew the driver. Next time I will call a taxi myself. Nice stay however.

We paid 440 Euros for 4 nights at the Singel in March 08. Whilst not the cheapest hotel available we opted for the Singel for location and, based on other reports, the cleanliness, welcome and facilities. Overall, we felt we got just that. Our pleasant small room fronted the Singel canal which was a bonus as this is not guaranteed. The staff make this hotel special as they are so cheerful, informed and happy to help. I would heartily recommend the Singel for short breaks to this lovely city.

Not much space in our triple room but clean with everything we needed including room safe. Especially liked the fact that we could leave our luggage after checking out until we were ready to go to the station which meant another days sightseeing before our evening flight home. The room was typical for Amsterdam i.e the bedroom was compact and the bathroom was as small as it could physically be. We had a room at the rear of the building which was very quiet. Rooms at the front overlooking the Singel are probably noisier. The hotel is excellent, being well sited and very convenient for both Centraal station and the sights of central Amsterdam. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was a tad limited but the coffee was good. We will certainly consider staying there on any future visits.

Single, older female just wanting to sleep. Couldn't check in until afternoon, but was able to leave luggage. The day staff was very friendly and helpfull. only oneperson on in the evening and she seemed very frustrated by minor requests, so much so that I hesitated asking about the heat. The next day she was in a much better mood, but there was more staff to support her. The room and breakfast were okay, nothing fancy. Neighborhood felt a bit edgy after dark, but I went out anyway and no harm. Kept my eyes and ears open like any city girl avoiding individuals who wanted to start something; they were loaded and loud, but I just kept walking. Very convenient to the Central Station on the Singel Canal.

Hotel staff was very pleasant, room was clean, and beds were comfortable. Only one complaint: There was no liquid soap in the dispenser in the shower, which was an unpleasant surprise at 6:00 in the morning when we had a flight to catch. That seems like a pretty basic thing for the cleaning staff to check every time they clean a room. Other than that, no complaints - location is fantastic, just a 5 minute walk from the Central Station.

The Singel hotel was a great find. Very close to the centre but not close enough to be disturbed by noise. Very friendly staff were very welcoming on arrival, we arrived at 10:00am and check in was not until 12:00pm but we asked if we could have the room any earlier and it was ready for 11:00am. Our room was on the 4th floor, it took a bit of time to realise that we had to walk outside along the roof gully to get to our room (sounds a bit strange but was quite nice!). Breakfast was good if you like it continental, personally I would have loved a fry up!! The room we had was small but cosy, certainly big enough for the money we paid. All in all I would definitely recommend the Hotel Singel.

This hotel was as expected from reading the reviews on this site but I found it quite peaceful, except if noisy people were passing my door. We had our window open during the nights and there was no noise from outside. I was charged about 30 Euros more than quoted on the website but the only slightly annoying thing that happened during my stay was upon arrival, the desk clerk was on an "important personal call" and I had to wait about 10 mins to check in and get the key to our room. It was about a 10 min walk from Central Station and maybe 10 mins walk to Anne Franks House in the opposite direction. Everytime we walked by, the line was too long though, so we didn't get to see it. Oh, one thing I found strange, the shower has no barrier for the water around the floor (besides a shower curtain), so you have to be careful not to splash too much water around as your entire bathroom floor might get wet! Try the Patas from the vendors along the street.. steak cut fries served with mayonniase in a paper cone. They are the best after a visit to a coffeeshop! If I was to visit Amsterdam again on a budget, I might stay at this hotel, but I would prefer to upgrade.

We've spent a good holiday, good breakfast, good service, employees very gentle. Unfortunately the first day we arrived, we founded an incredible number of big spiders in our room. It's been impossible to sleep in there. Ww had another room, but it was very small and with the view on the wall.

Overall, we were happy with the hotel. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel was perfect for us - less than 10 mins walk from Central Station and within walking distance of most parts of the city centre. The room was quite small but clean and had everything we needed. The bathroom was clean but only problem was that as there was no shower tray, the water went everywhere when you had a shower and it was nearly impossible to stop it flooding into the room! As it was quite warm when we were there, we had to keep the windows open at night but it can get a bit noisy, especially when we were woken up at 6am by the guys loading the laundry into the van, just below our window!! Apart from those 2 negatives, we would stay at the Singel Hotel again as we found it to be very welcoming and safe.

Very nice property. Small rooms, but reasonable rate. We had way too much luggage as we had just come off of a cruise (QM2), but it was an easy walk from the train station with our wheeled luggage. We were were able to store all of our clothes, and while the empty suitcases were in the entry from the hallway, they weren't in the way. The hotel is exactly as advertised; small, clean, charming, friendly, convenient and reasonably priced. We loved Amsterdam. If we were staying more than 3 nights or planned on spending more time in our rooms, we might consider an upgraded hotel, but the Singel was "as advertised" and constitutes an excellent value.
