The hotel was clean. Long way to walk, or the need to take tram to get to the center. Very slow internet. Not comfortable matress. Narrow stairs, no lift. Noisy if a room faces the street. Overpriced.

Great hotel! A little off the center but I found it as a plus... Very quiet at evening. Can get to the center by walking (about 15 to 20 minutes) or by Tram - There is a stop about 2 minutes from the hotel! The breakfast included is something to take in consideration - Great breakfast!

Nice small room (if you're fine with aged furniture), very nice staff, close to the city center, especially by "tram", good area, good coffee, good breakfast! If you come as a traveller and want to see the city instead of spending much time in the room, it's perfect! If you want to stay in all the time, it might be a bit to small.

The hotel is located in a nice area and very convenient to either walk to the city center or take one of several trams and busses. Unfortunately, the room, although very quiet (no. 18 to the back gardens), smelled poorly, probably due to he old carpet, curtains and furniture (60s style...) and was quite cold. It was not cleaned up properly, we missed towels, bathroom mats, toilet paper one day, no warm water (shower) one morning. The breakfast was really good, and hosted in a cosy room. No public space to sit. Overall: Way too few value for this price!

A very nice little hotel with nice people. My tiny room was fine and well laid out for staying on my own. I could use my computer comfortably and the bed was comfortable. My only comment is on the website it said guests could check out up to 2pm, which was one of the reasons I chose it. The actual checkout time was 11am, but they allowed me to stay until noon. I do recommend this hotel.

Very nice hotel. It stands out for the kindness and competence of the staff, very friendly and attentious from the beggining. It was the most expensive we've had after visiting 5 countries (Germany, Czech Rep., Austria, Italy and France). It must be so because of the hotel rates all around Amsterdam, since it was one of the best rates I could find out of the places registered here in Venere.com. The room was spacious, reasonable continental breakfeast and extremely friendly staff (I can't stress that enough). The place is well located. Very near a couple os tram stops and within a short walking distance of the museum zone. You have to watch out for the steep starways steps and no elevator.

My husband and I loved this little hotel and would gladly return. We had only two nights to stay in the city, and the location was perfect--walking distance of the museums, the park and many restaurants. The staff members were exceptionally helpful, offering discounts on tours and transportation. Breakfast in a pleasant room was good. Note that anyone with physical limitations would find using the steep stairs difficult.

I like the Old South neighborhood of Amsterdam, since it is close to the Vondelpark and walking distance to most of the central attractions, with convenient tram service and a nearby Albert Heijn supermarket, so I always try to stay in that neighborhood. While the staff at the Zandbergen were attentive and helpful, the hotel fell short of my expectations in several respects: 1) the single rooms all face the street, bringing the regular noise of the #2 tram every 10 minutes or so starting at 6 AM; 2) the free WiFi service was very spotty, though that may be the fault of the ISP, not the hotel; 3) the single rooms are *very* small, even by the standards of Amsterdam. My advice for single travelers is to book a double room, which is far more spacious and which faces the hotel's garden, not the street.

The location is good for the traveler. It does not located in the noisy city center, but the stop of train No.2 is nearby which directly go to the central train station through city center. And the famous Van Gogh Museum is at the walking distance(10-15 min.),which is worth to visit, especially it provid introduction in many different languages including Chinese. The quality of breakfast is good. the main problems are the space of my room is small, the water of the shower flows directly on the floor of the bathroom and the price quoted in the web. does not include 5% city tax.

I've found my new favorite hotel in Amsterdam. Great location in that it's removed from the tourist area, but so close via a short walk. The tram is steps from the door, and so is the Vondelpark. Henk could not have been more genial, helpful or accommodating. He had my coffee and newspaper ready every morning as I came down to the breakfast spread. Now if only I could get my wife to do that. Steep stairs, so if that's a problem, give the hotel a pass, otherwise, you can't go wrong here.

The hotel is a healthy walk from the center, close to the lovely Vondelpark and the Konzertgebouw. The staff were superlative. When I found out upon arrival that I had lost the key to the padlock on my suitcase, the receptionist tried various tools in the hotel to help me. Then she called the house handyman who came promptly and broke the lock. The new owner, Henk, is particularly cheerful and personable. The only shortcoming is the small single room, with a bathroom you can barely turn around in. There is no separate shower; a curtain has to be drawn to divide the toilet and sink area from the downflow of water.

Wonderful hotel. Manager couldn't do enough to help, point out places to eat, things to see and do. Hotel very quiet so good nights sleep. We requested tea for our room and knowing we were English (liking our cups of tea!) provided kettle and tea making facilities. Room could have been a bit bigger but for a city break it was fine!! Would definitely return.

Windows had to be kept open overnight because of warmth so tram and traffic noise drifted in but it wasn't too bad. The hotel owner was extremely helpful with information about Amsterdam. The breakfast was really good and there were good cafes and restaurants in the area. The trams from the centre were easy to use and living on the edge of the centre meant the area wasn't heaving with tourists and their noise etc.It was very near the 3 main museums. There was no lift and quite a steep climb to top floor and only a dozen or so rooms so small and personal. Internet available all day.

A fine small hotel, expertly managed with very personal service. They did everything possible to make my stay of five nights a peaceful and happy one. I thoroughly recommend Hotel Zandbergen. My only caution would be to frail or disabled travellers, as the stairs are quite steep. Plenty of local cafes and restaurants nearby. My own favourite was the cafe at the next crossroads, turning right out of the hotel.

This hotel was in a fantastic location for a woman traveling alone. I was able to walk to the museums and canal and felt safe at all times. The staff were very courteous and offered suggestions to this newby for things to see and do, etc. The price was great! The stairs would be a challenge for some, but the friendly staff practically ran up the stairs with my heavy suitcase. Free internet access in the lobby was readily available and was a great lifeline to my family at home. I would definitely go back again!

The Hotel is in a residential area, near to museum quartier (Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh), very close to tram stop (tram 2 brings you in 15 minutes to centraal station for less than a euro, with strippencard). The Hotel is in a little house, with very steep stairs, without lift. My room (single) was very small and the shower open in the bathroom. Quite good breakfast. The best of the hotel is Mr. Hank, friendly, helpful, professional owner. I spend a very good time in Amsterdam.

That's the first time that we have been to Amsterdam with our pet and we have finally found this hotel. The manager was very kind with both of us and our dog. Juste a little story. In fact, there was some problem with my watch and we have woken too late to take the breakfast according to the service time. But the manager have made un exception for us and we do appreciate very much. The room is very quiet and the hotel is near from the museum center. Next time i go to Amesterdam, i'll make the same choice.

The Zandbergen is an excellent place to stay. The room we had was small but nice and quiet. The hospitality is near to perfect, everybody is nice and helpful. Breakfeast (included) is varied and good quality. The location, near the big museums and the concert house makes it easy to walk to places, and the number 2 tram takes you to the center in ten minutes. So I absolutely recommend this place on all accounts. The only thing is that it does not have an elevator, and the stairs are steep, but staff helps you with the bags if need be!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff was helpful and friendly. We showed up at 7AM to drop off our bags, but since our room was ready, the receptionist checked us in a eight hours early and offered us breakfast. After a full day of travel, we were thrilled with the Zandbergen's hospitality. Although our room was very small, it had everything we needed. The bed was one of the most comfortable we've encoutnered! The included breakfast buffet is excellent; there are meats, cheeses, boiled eggs, cereals, and fresh yogurt. The croissants and coffee were really outstanding. The staff were very helpful in securing restaurant reservations for us at local, non-touristy places that they recommended, and they had good advice on places to visit and sites to see. We walked to the city center many times, but when our feet were tired or the weather was bad, we appreciated how close the hotel was to the #2 tram.

Great location and nice street (restaurants, shopping), but busy street so noisy at night if you have a room on the street - take ear-plugs. Nice facility, but EXTREMELY steep stairs to get to the rooms, no elevators, but they do help you carry stuff up. Don't use this hotel if you have a problem climbing stairs. Didn't stay long enough to check out the dining room, so no idea of the quality of the breakfasts. No night clerk and breakfast was a bit late in the AM (7:30) which meant that I had to hit the street with no breakfast or coffee in order to catch an early flight. Overall, I felt the rate was a bit expensive for the quality of the facility

"Henk" the owner was extremely pleasant, hospitable, and helpful. Easy connections to downtown or elsewhere via Tram #2 (every 15-20 min.) Hotel good for mature singles and couples. Because of steep stairs, I would not recommend for elderly or disabled. In residential area near a couple of OK neighborhood cafes.

This is an excellent small hotel, with friendly staff and we really enjoyed our short stay. The hotel is in a good position on the edge of the Vondel park and it is easy to get into Amsterdam centre either by walking through the park or getting a tram. The street is quiet at night and so there was no noise in our room. Breakfast consisted of a choice of 2 cereals, juices, yogurt, bread and croissants, cold ham eggs and cheese. Our room was quite small but OK given that we were out for most of the time. The staff were very helpful. We were surprised however to be charged for a tourist map - all other hotels we have stayed in have given these away -and to be charged a surcharge on our tram tickets. All in all though an excellent hotel.

Very pleasant staff and Manager went out of his way to be helpful. Rooms are typical European size and very clean and comfortable. Staircase is very steep and there is no lift. Request room at back (garden) as street rooms do get a bit noisy. Location didn't appear very appealing upon arrival, but it's only about a 15 minute walk to Rijksmuseum and is on the tram line. (You can buy tram tickets on board or front desk has booklet.) I would definitely recommend this hotel.

One of the greatest hotels that we stayed in while on our trip to Europe. This hotel is even more comfortable than the 4 star we stayed in while in Rome. The hotel staff gave us a friendly welcome and even brought our luggage down to our room. A little bit out of the way, but a short walk to the nearby tram stop. If you want to stay in a part of the city less frequented by American tourists and don't mind spending a little more than the low budget hotels, than stay at this hotel you will not leave unhappy.

I was warmly gretted on arrival and offered an upgrade as I had booked for a single room but a double was avaialabe at a good price. My room was nice and clean but the bathroom was finished to a very high standard. The Van Gogh Museum was just down the street and I was able to buy a ticket from reception. The Scottish lady who owns the Hotel is a very nice lady and the staff are excellent. I really appreciated the free internet service, lovely breakfasts and a beautiful English designed park 2 minutes walk away. Getting from the airport to the Hotel is really easy, double decker train from the airport, cross the raod and catch the number 2 tram and the Hotel is just across the road. Very secure front door with CCTV. I was attending the World Trade Centre which was only two tram rides away and easy to locate. Very enjoyable stay and made to feel at home, highly recommended, nice quiet area of the city with lots of restaurants close by. Geoff Settle November 2005.

Great hotel in a great location. Very nice owners, clean and well laid out room and quiet neighbourhood. Easy access to everything by trams (get a 24, 48 or 72 hour pass), or by walking.

Very friendly and welcoming. Located in quiet area of Amsterdam near Vondel Park, but within 15 minutes of the city centre by tram. Not suitable for disabled people as there are steep stairs and no lifts. Otherwise I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

We only stayed for one night at the end of our honeymoon, but we were impressed by this hotel. When we arrived we were upgraded at no cost to one of the suites which was very spacious. The major museums are just up the street and there is a wonderful park a couple blocks away. The Centrum area is a little bit longer of a walk, but if you are out for the day it is to very far at all. Overall we were very happy with our short stay.

Lovely area of Amsterdam with good local shops and restaurants. Good tram service to city centre. Museums within reasonable walking distance. Friendly and accomodating staff.

The hotel is very nice. Located in a very quiet area not far from the center of the city. A couple of minor things that were unpleasant: a) in a two-bed room, it's very hard to have sex on the beds because the beds tend to slide apart for some reason; b) if the windows look on Willemsparkweg, it's very noisy when the windows are open.

It is more suited for family and couples, if you are with friends stay in the city! This hotel was a plus because it was a little away from the main scene and provided a quiet and romantic getaway from the crowded center of Amsterdam. It was only a 10 minute ride anywhere in the city and the hotel provided free internet access which was a plus. The rooms were small but breaskfast was one of the best we have had. I would recommend this hotel for the price. Be aware that amsterdam charges hotel tax it usally hikes the price up 6-12E a night.

On the outskirts of Amsterdam so nice and quiet but within a few yards of the tram stop at Emmastraat and a short walk from the lovely Vondelpark. Owners and staff were very welcomng and helpful. Free Internet access a boon. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice. The room was quiet with access to a small patio garden - lovely. I have already passed on details of this hotel to friends and would stay there again if/when I return to Amsterdam.

Location of this nice and clean hotel is perfect, next to a nice park and main museums, and just 10 min walk from city center. Service is nice and unobtrusive. I have already recommended it to colleagues and we will certainly return.

Appreciated the cleanliness. The location is great in a nice part of the city. Very close to the park. Can easily walk to many parts of the city. The single room is very, very tiny - like a dorm room but had everything needed. The double room is a little more spacious.

The Zandbergen Hotel was a wonderful find! The location is great, the rooms/bathroom were impeccable, and the staff was very helpful. Free internet usage is a plus too. It would be nice if the hot chocolate and coffee were free throughout the day, but a small complaint for an otherwise wonderful hotel. We would definitely stay there again!

What a great little hotel! It's so clean and the staff are very helpful and friendly - the service is VERY good - as is the substantial breakfast! It's so nice to find a completely non-smoking hotel - particularly in Amsterdam! The location is very good too - Willemsparkweg is a smart street in a quiet part of town - very close to the Van Gogh Museum and Rijksmuseum with easy access to the rest of the city via the tram system - the number 2 goes right past the hotel. If you want a nice quiet walk the Vondelpark is just round the corner. We will definitely choose to stay at Zandbergen again and will recommend it to others without hesitation.

the couple who's ruling the hotel is really kind and who got a very warm welcome. the hotel is what we were looking for: clean, quiet, close to the city centre( it takes just a walk to be there),just in front of the tram stop and with a great surrounding. If we have to find something not so good: the room is not exactly huge and the stairs are very very steep. But the breakfast that you are offered makes you forget this. we'll definitely choose Zandbergen next time we are in Amsterdam!

Small hotel located in a residential area close to Vondel park and museums. We spent two excellent nights in a small but cosy bedroom, on the rear of the hotel, so it was calm also. Pleasant welcome and good breakfast complete a nice overall picture. The price is not too high given the location and the standard of the hotel. I would happily recommend it to my friends.

A pleasant, immaculately clean small hotel, excellently situated in the quiet Oud Zuid area, but very convenient for the tram to the city centre - and within easy walking distance of the main museums, the Concertgebouw, etc. The buffet breakfast (included) was more than adequate - even for the American guests at the adjacent table who made seemingly endless return visits to the serving area! The staff were very friendly and helpful and the free broadband internet connection was a useful bonus for booking concert tickets, etc. The surrounding, mainly residential, area is peaceful, but still with plenty of nice cafes, restaurants, etc. If we return to Amsterdam, we will certainly stay in this area again and would have no hesitation in recommending the Zandbergen to others. The only drawbacks (though neither affected us at all) might be (a) the lack of an elevator, since the fairly steep stairs - though by no means the worst we've encountered in Amsterdam - might be a concern for people with mobility problems and/or lots of heavy bags and (b)the rather small public lounge area - but for a small, friendly, reasonably priced hotel in a nice area of Amsterdam, it would be hard to find better.

We really enjoyed this relaxing break! The hotel is friendly and welcoming. Facilities are good and being on a tram line- Number 2, access to the city centre and beyond is excellent. We also were very pleased the Zandbergen is a non-smoking hotel!

This is a very small, family run, intimate hotel. It is located 1/2 block from the tram stop, and the tram system is very good in Amsterdam. It is in a quiet part of the city, but very close to many areas of interest. The only drawback was the stairs. There is no lift, and they were very steep (no problem for younger people, more difficult for older people, or if you have very much luggage). However, we discovered this is very common in the smaller hotels in Amsterdam. The couple who run the hotel were very gracious and helpful. As with many European hotels, the double rooms were two single beds, something Americans are not accustomed to. Overall, a very pleasant stay.

I enjoyed staying in this little hotel - ideally sited about 30 mins walk from the centre of Amsterdam & 15 from the Rijksmuseum. The only downside - the noise of the trams which run late and start again early in the morning. As I live in the country, I did find the room noisy - a city-dweller probably wouldn't notice.

We highly recommend this hotel to everyone going to Amsterdam. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean and the beds were very comfortable. There were four women traveling in our party and we were traveled all around Europe. Out of all the hotels we stayed at, this was by far the nicest hotel we had in Europe. We have no complaints about his hotel and only have high praises for it.

Overall we enjoyed our stay very much. We appreciated the hotel's environmental policies but the towels were a little on the 'thin' side and didn't smell very nice! Breakfast was excellent. Our room was slightly cramped but as we weren't in there very often this didn't really matter. The location of the hotel suited us very well as we were looking for somewhere quiet but within easy walking reach of the city centre.

The personnel are very helpful and even has tickets to the Van Gogh museum. There is no elevator and the stairs are steep, so it's difficult to carry luggage to your room. The front desk is closed from 11pm to 7 or 8am so if you are leaving between that time, no one is there to assist you. The rooms have no airconditioner.
