I work in Amsterdam during the week and I would stay in this hotel every week if there were vacancies that suited my requirements.

Overall, the hotel is nicely renovated. We did have problems opening our door. The electronic key did not work. We mentioned this several times to the reception, but nothing was ever done to correct the problem. We had to ask the reception to open the door every time we got in. Also, when we checked in, the lady mentioned breakfast was included. When we checked-out, it was charged on the bill. Not a nice surprise. They did correct it, however. The hotel is located in a very good area, and is very clean. Price-quality wise, i would recommend it. I think maybe we had just an unlucky room.

Camere piccolissime ma pulite. Ottimo per 1 max 2 notti. Peccato che si trovi lungo la strada piu' trafficata di Amsterdam, la mattina si dorme poco...

the rooms and all the facilities are small.(tv, table, closet etc). breakfast room is below ground with no windows, no elevator and difficult steps. at half the price you can get in Germany a decent 3 star hotel. This hotel should be rated maximum 2 stars. the internet WIFI was good. I would not stay there again.

Very well situated for the main art museums (200m), and the Leidseplein nightlife and shopping (a direct No 2 or No 5 tram will take you to/from the more distant station/red light area or it's a 30-40 minute walk). The hotel is situated in a quiet street lined with designer boutiques. Unfortunately there is still work going on in the street, though not in the hotel itself, but I didn't find it too intrusive personally. The staff are welcoming and helpful. Breakfast buffet is OK but not outstanding for 3 stars. My ensuite room was a bit small, with insufficient storage space: expected a bit more for 60 Euros a night, but I suppose Amsterdam is as pricey as any major European capital. Overall, a good hotel, wic is not perfect but can be recommended, especially for the staff welcome and attentions, convenient location, and relative quietness.

I was very disappointed with this hotel and will not be staying here in the future. Our room was not ready at 2 pm because of an employee shortage in the cleaning department. We were told room 510 would be cleaned and ready. When we came back at 4 pm they gave us room 511. This was on the top floor (attic) tucked neatly in the corner with the sloping roof line. Now I am a big guy, 6'1", 245 lbs. It was easy to bump a head, knee or elbow. You had to sit in the bath to take a show, which was surprisingly relaxing. I need to talk about the positives with this hotel; it was within 300 meters from Rijk; the front desk person was doing the best he could with the limited rooms. They also had the BEST breakfast I have ever had in Europe. The spread was like a smorgasboard at Denny's. Pancakes; scrambled and hard boiled eggs; bacon; ham; cheese... definitely well worth the 10 euros. In the future I will be looking for a place in the Jordaan area, west of the Dam.

A few comments of minor issues: No towell rails in bathroom No electric kettle for teamaking but asked 10 euros for this Refurbished bedrooms but bathrooms seem to be original condition. Wireless internet connection was good.

I booked a double bed for one night. Room and services are as described in the web page. Perfect location: close to the city center but not located in a noisy area. Quite expensive for the overall service (89.00 per night); four stars hotel but tiny room and little tiny bathroom. Excellent welcome and very good and nice desk service. breakfast was not included but paying 10.00 euro more per person you can have a very good continental breakfast. Internet wi-fi included.

The location of the hotel was perfect; right on PC Hoofstraat in the Museum Quarter with all the Designer boutiques and only blocks away from the most impressive museums in the city. Proximity to the central canal rings is excellent as well. I luckily was bumped up to a Double which was great but my friend had a tiny room on the 5th floor with a bathroom that had a shower head and a drain in the floor that served as a shower. Make sure to bring your own soap as the hotel does not provide these kinds of amenities. Due to the location of the hotel and the surrounding areas, I'd stay here again without question.

Hotel is undergoing renevavations but that did not cause us any problems, the hotel is clean, decorated to a high standard and all the staff we dealt with were excellent. Brilliant location.

The problem was that there was still ongoing repairs and it was not mentioned on internet that it will disturb that much.

Unfortunately the hotel renovations were still being carried out - which meant no internet facilities for guests at reception and no breakfast facilities although these were indicated as being available as from February 2008. And workmen commenced at 07h45 in the morning, banging, listening to the radio and singing along! TV out of order in room and in spite of request to check it was out of order for the whole stay. However, broken light in bathroom fixed. Helpful staff. Good location. Clean room.

The location suited me very well as I had only one night in Amsterdam and the hotel is within 30-45 minutes from the airport. From the hotel I could walk to the main tourist areas in the centre. The price was very reasonable (because of the inconvenience of the renovations?). Despite the renovation I had a very pleasant stay and would return again. Staff were very helpful.

I spent three nights in Hotel Smit. It is sited very close to the principal museums of Amsterdam. The zone is very quiet and safe. The room was small but comfortable. I appreciated the free internet connection in the hall. The price was very honest. The only problem in this period is that restoring works of the facade is ongoing, and the window was shaded by scaffoldings.

Considering the Smit was undergoing renovation, it is an excellent budget hotel in an awesome location. When i look for a budget hotel my main concerns are location, cleanliness and trustworthy staff. Smit had it all. I am looking forward to visit again after renovation.

The front staff was outstanding. Currently (oct.07) the hotel is under going a huge renovation but it didn't effect us much except the outside appearance. We had a street side room and it was EXTREMELY noisy due to night time activites in the area.

Hotel Smit is such a disappointment, its a building site virtually. I arrived and was told by reception that the actual renovations were complete despite having scaffolding outside the whole building. I was put in a small dark room at the back while I had specifically requested a quiet room to sleep by day after a long overseas trip. The room was noisy and I had painters outside my window all day while next door they were installing new plumbing so was so noisy. When I complained they refused to accept or do anything to remedy the situation. Breakfast is extra (Euro 10) - which is a rip off and poor quality. I was so unhappy with the service, the cleanliness and attitude of hotel staff. I would never recommend this hotel, its far too expensive for the quality provided. Regards Ann

The hotel was under construction during our stay and the room that we stayed in had not yet been renovated. Construction sounds were quite loud. However, the hotel staff did everything within their ability to make our stay comfortable.

As arthistorians I and my wife enjoyed especially the location amongst three major museums. Service was impeccable, and when our airline failed to bring us home we easily extended our visit in Hotel Smit one more day.

Very good location, nice breakfast, nothing wrong, but it does not seem as a 3 star hotel. The price was high in comparison with hotels of this standard in other major cities in Europe. But it was OK.
