Rooms are OK. Walls are thin and you can hear the noice from the hallway and other side of the room. Very Good Location though and you are just few steps away from the Dam Square, Shopping Area. Breakfast is nice and very good choices.

The minibar was empty and no one took interest to ask the things are ok at the room. Service needs to be improved even considering that the staff are not so busy at off peak season of september. Staff need to be pro-active to ask the customers about the needs and need nots.

Been to Amsterdam many times and always stayed in this hotel. Have looked at many others but always come back to this one for the following reasons: The location (Just off Dam Square) is fantastic, breakfast is excellent and included in the price as is city tax,the staff are always welcoming, free in room safe, and best of all,we usually arive about 10am and they let you check into your room straight away.Don't get me wrong,it's nothing flash but it does the job and is exceptional value for a city centre hotel.

I will repeat in the same hotel for sure...! Strong points: 1) Its location. The hotel is near the Centraal Station, where the buses and the trains arrive (tickets are bought into the same buses, including the ones that bring you to closer cities, I dunno how the train system works). It's also near everywhere, so you can walk from there to any point you wish (don't forget the Red District and the Market of Flowers). 2) Its breakfast. It was just impressing, with tones of food (different cheeses, ham, smoked salmon, eggs, bacon, delicious rice with veggies, pancakes with sirup, different breads, toasts, pastries, different cornflakes, fresh fruit, different milks, coffee, teas, etc.) incredibly well cooked. You can perfectly do the breakfast and the lunch in 1 round, if your stomach is big enough...! Open from 7.00am to 10.30am. Weak points: 1) Its staff. Waiters are marvelous, always serving you without the need of calling them... but the ppl in the reception are not so efficient (don't try to ask how the bus service of Amsterdam works, they didn't know it, even with a lot of tourists asking for the same every day). 2) Its bikes' renting service. It costs 12 euros per day and you get an old bike with problems. Better chose the McBike or the Yellow Bike services (both are nice companies with good prices, including an insurance in case of robbery we didn't get with our hotel, even paying more than the standard fare).

All rooms in Amsterdam are small - it's a small city! The Rho has recently been refurbished - the rooms are clean and well looked after. The reception staff are a joy to deal with,, they know everything! They are amusing and utterly professional. This break to Amsterdam was the best short break we have ever had. So much so that we'll be back January, May and September 2009!

The Rho hotel is not worth the money. There was very bad mould in the bathroom, the pillows were very lumpy and falling to bits, the blankets were torn. We had to chase the maid every day for toilet rolls, towels and tooth mugs. The noise outside was bad although this is down to druggies. You look onto another building and therefore have to keep the curtains closed, this was in room 228. The breakfast is grim, yes loads of choice but the scrambled eggs could bounce to the moon and back. The breakfast staff have a bad attitude, never smile and could not care less. When the eggs are refrshed they are thrown into the hopper from a distance. The bacon is overcooked, the coffee is awful but hot. They do not clear used plates away until you leave. The dishcloth they wipe the tables with is grey and filthy. I would rate this hotel a 2 star if not less, however the reception staff are pleasant, the location is great, right in the centre. The lobby is impressive. The maid is not quite with it. Our room had stuff spilt on the skirting bord by the bed, looked like tea, still there one week later....disgusting, there were stains on the bedspread. The room looked clean on entering but was far from it. I always take anti-bac wipes but why should I have to. The wet room reminded me of a butchers slab, the shower was hot one minute and cold the next. In all not a nice experience. The Dutch are not known for their hygiene standards, I may be wrong but I failed to find a good hotel with good reviews, maybe this is AMSTERAM. I do know that I would never return to the Rho Hotel. Hope this helps.

Nice hotel with excellent location for those that like to be close to the action (day and night). Neighbor of Madame Tussaud Museum and many monuments / historical sites, With 10min walking distance of the Central Station (direct train from Schiphol) you dont need a taxi to get there unless you are loaded with luggage. Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein are also 10min away by foot. RLD is 5 min away for those who like. But take care with the rooms! Initially I was given a room in the 1st floor in the street side that was very noisy and could almost be reached by the pedestrians making me feel quite insecure. But luckily I could be moved to one in the 4th floor facing a internal area that was very silent and then all was OK.

The RHO was great. The room was clean (a little small, but that's Amsterdam). The staff was friendly. There was free internet and a computer. Breakfast was excellent, and it was included in the room price. When I checked in, it was still quite early in the morning, but my room was ready and they let me have breakfast too! That was very nice of them, I thought. I only gave a 5 on quietness because with the window open, you could hear everything going on in other open-windowed rooms... including the group of 3-4 guys that were chatting all freaking night long with each other. It all went away when I closed my window, and luckily it was already cool enough. If quietness is your #1 concern, I don't recommend Amsterdam at all (regardless of the hotel you stay in... haha).

Excelent place to start a day or night :-) in Amsterdam. A very good breakfast and best location: The Dam. A classic city hotel for everybody. Overall good experience, rooms are somewhat small but nice, can easily hear other guests passing in the hall but otherwise was quiet. Staff was knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. The comments regarding Hotel Rho were spot on. The rooms are small but cozy and clean. The location is perfect; in the centre of everything and within easy walking distance of the train station. The price/value is excellent since the room rate also includes breakfast which was better than average. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to others who put cleanliness, location and price as the 3 most important factors when deciding on a hotel.

The breakfast was just horrible, especially in view of the price charged. The people at the reception desk were not friendly at all and at a certain moment even aggressive. A chewing gum was attached at the bottom of a chair in my room. Even when is clearly showed this, the chewing gum was not removed. As a whole Amsterdam is overrated and the prices they charge for a hotel room and the food are just unacceptable. Amsterdam should accept that they simply can not compeed with Paris or London and should not charge people as they do.

After checking in our original room was tiny and located in a small attic space with only a wet room. This was a ridiculously small room for 2 people especially with a slopeing ceiling. We requested a change of room, the staff were very helpful and we were moved to a much bigger room with bathroom however this had to be a twin not a double and it was also a smoking room as there was nothing else available. Overall we would say that the hotel was a little 'tired' looking and needed some attention. We also feel you should be able to book what type of en suite you want and the very small bedrooms should be shown on the website pictures. The breakfast room staff were fairly miserable but the reception staff very helpful and friendly.

I stayed in the Rho Hotel twice recently. The staff are friendly and the location is perfect for anyone who intends to frequent the Red Light District but doesn't want to actually stay in the RLD. You can use the Rho Hotel's safe central location near the Hotel Krasnapolski just off a major street as a base for seeing all of Amsterdam (including the RLD) without having to worry about street hustlers or walking past porno shops with your kids. The first time I stayed there, the room (132) was very quiet, but the TV was all local without any CNN or BBC. I just thought that was the way it was, so I didn't ask about the it. The second time I stayed, the room (129) was very noisy, but I did have BBC and CNN. If you're going to stay there, by all means ask for a room that does not overlook the alley with the bicycle rental shop. The noise, which woke me up several times during the night, was all from hooligans and street people outside carrying on and arguing through the night. One other good thing. I judge European hotels by their breakfast. Eggs and bacon and/or sausage are a good sign, and I was pleasantly surprised that the Rho serves eggs and (somewhat undercooked) bacon for breakfast despite its quite reasonable price. I'll stay at the Rho next time I visit Amsterdam.

The Rho hotel is ideally situated in the middle of Amsterdam only 5 minutes from the main station and 2 minutes from a tram stop. The price is also very reasonable for the location. This was very good bargain in Amsterdam in terms of the costs of hotels. It is also in a great location- right at the Dam Square and within walking distance from the Central railway station. The breakfast was very nice- about 10 items in a very nice dining area. This was included in the price. The main foyer is nice looking and historic, but furnishings look beaten. My room was very small for single occupancy, but the bathroom size was OK. The rooms were very clean. The mattress was sagging and needs replacement. Other rooms I saw were bigger (with higher occupancy). My room was very noisy since it was next to the back street. On one night, there were verbal arguments on the street at 3 AM. Most of the main reception staff is polite and friendly, but a few of them are a little curt and not very helpful. The housekeeping staff is excellent.

From the outside the hotel looks unpromising. However this is an efficient and well run private hotel with a distinctive vestibule and pleasant bar. The room, which was single, had a double bed and was quite roomy by Amsterdam standards. Excellent breakfast included in the very reasonable price.
How to reach Hotel Rho
By car
Coming from outside the city, follow the signs for centrum. You will be ending up on Dam square, close to the hotel. The hotel is in a street called Nes, which is a side street from Dam square.
By train
From Amsterdam Central Station, you can walk along Damrak street to Dam square, for around 5 minutes. When you come out of the station, do not go left or right, just straight ahead in the street in front of you. You can take a tram in front of the station (lines 4, 9, 16, 24 and 25) and get off at the first stop.
By airplane
From Amsterdam Schiphol airport, you can take a taxi. Cost is around €36,00 for a one-way ticket and it will take about 30 minutes.
Alternatively, you can take the local train to the central station. Then, follow the aforementioned indications.
