Excellent hotel in the center of Amsterdam. Easy access for sightseeing, shopping and dining. Breakfast was excellent. I appreciate the ease of the commute from Schiphol and the short easy stroll from Centraal Station to the Rho. The only trade off is you will have more street noise, but being in the center of everything this is to be expected! This was my second stay in the hotel and I certainly look forward to my next visit.

The Hotel is located where central in Amsterdam; the rooms are nice and quiet, some are small, but still had enough space. Breakfast is good. Only the bathroom was very old and should be redecorated. Rooms are in general very expensive in Amsterdam and I think this one too, but we had a good time there.

We were upgraded to a suite which made our stay even more enjoyable. Great hotel, very central and the breakfast was good. Staff were very efficient and friendly. Only down point was the number of stairs up to our room, but this seems to be fairly normal for Amsterdam.

Excellent location, although it's about 15 minute walk, not 5 minutes as it says on the web, from the station if you allow for crossing roads and luggage. We requested a quiet room and that's what we got, but it was very small and had an annoying pillar right next to the bed. The public rooms are smart but it's a bit shabby after that. Breakfast was very good.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hotel Rho. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the hotel had a real charm about it, the rooms were basic but very clean, excellent breakfast. The only negative point was the lack of tea/coffee facilities in the rooms, drinks machines are available in recepetion but unfortunately out of order for a while during our visit. To sum it up - can't wait to come back! :)

RHO hotel's location couldn't be better. Numerous dining choices right around the corner offering virtually everything. Rooms are very spartan, however, by USA standards. Not even up to Holiday Inn standards. More like Motel 6 decor. Free breakfast excellent. Tram stop right across Dam Sq. Staff at front desk is excellent. Tip: Bring your own wash cloth/soap and 220 volt converter for razors!

Hotel Rho is a nice place to stay in Amsterdam, situated in the centre of the city. All important locations to see as museums, grachten etc. can easily be visited by tram or even by walking. The hotel itself is clean (except the one wash-basin in one room), quite and with a really comprehensive continental breakfast. The staff is very kind and act helpfully if you have any question (one young lady did not look to be very motivated). - For another stay in Amsterdam, we would choose the hotel Rho again.

An older hotel, but located nice and central for walking, shopping, restaurants, etc. in Amsterdam and easy to get to from Central Station after a short train trip from Schiphol airport. Rooms were clean enough and for the room I had large enough for my needs which were a small work space and a place to sleep after a long day on a plane. There was a bit of noise from the back alley, but then there are bars close by and that's to be expected. Staff were very pleasant and efficient. Breakfast was very good and there was nothing lacking. The free wireless was also a bonus. As I travel back and forth from Canada to Cyprus for work I fully expect to pass through Amsterdam again and I would stay here without hesitation.

A true three-star, in an excellent location. Staff are fully competent, a bit reserved, but on a pair of occasions the front desk volunteered extra effort, which I appreciated. The breakfast offered good variety and was quite substantial. Coffee was fresh and quite good.

The beds are very soft and 2 people have a hard time not rolling into the middle. We changed rooms for the second night, hoping it would be a better bed. It was about the same with a much smaller room. We probably should have some money credited for the move down in size. Staff was very accomadating about it. As the only purpose for choosing this property was for sleeping conveniently located, half of that was successfully achieved.Location was very handy for walking everywhere. Breakfast was good.

The hotel is located right next to Dam square , which is a large and busy tourist attraction. However, tram stops are nearby and it is very convenient and easy to move away from the busy city center and out into the outer canal rings. We enjoyed the great location but not the crowds surrounding it. The room was very basic and did not provide any extra comforts, but it was clean and spacious, including the bathroom. One warning, due to squeaky floor boards we could hear all the movements of the people above us.

Our review may sound too good to be true. But we three "girls" almost 70 years old enjoyed our stay in Amsterdam in full not least thanks to our stay at Rho. Three good beds, not two plus one extra, like we many times have experienced, excellent breakfast with good coffee, location perfect in walking distance from everything. Staff helpful and friendly. Everything very clean. Nice public areas. we will certainly recomend it.

The staff are very efficient and friendly. We really enjoyed breakfast and the dining room is pleasant. The beds are comfortable and the room was nice and warm. Our stay was only spoiled on our third night by having neighbours who talked during the night. The partition walls are very thin so this prevented me from going to sleep. I think you need to consider soundproofing the rooms better.

Bathroom disappointing: basin tap worn out and difficult to control flow and temperature, same problem with ancient shower mixer tap, which was not thermostatic. Pillows lumpy (foam chips) and no drawers in room. Could have hoped for something better value in these respects but otherwise a good place to stay if you don't mind identical breakfast every day.

The hotel Rho is well settled. Our room is big and the bathroom is new and clean but we have to be very carefull when taking shower in order to keep the bathroom dry. There is a little wall between those areas. During the summer time, I think this room will be hot because there is no AC system. Breakfast is well served and with a great variety.

Been to Amsterdam many times and always stayed in this hotel. Have looked at many others but always come back to this one for the following reasons: The location (Just off Dam Square) is fantastic, breakfast is excellent and included in the price as is city tax,the staff are always welcoming, free in room safe, and best of all,we usually arive about 10am and they let you check into your room straight away.Don't get me wrong,it's nothing flash but it does the job and is exceptional value for a city centre hotel.

I will repeat in the same hotel for sure...! Strong points: 1) Its location. The hotel is near the Centraal Station, where the buses and the trains arrive (tickets are bought into the same buses, including the ones that bring you to closer cities, I dunno how the train system works). It's also near everywhere, so you can walk from there to any point you wish (don't forget the Red District and the Market of Flowers). 2) Its breakfast. It was just impressing, with tones of food (different cheeses, ham, smoked salmon, eggs, bacon, delicious rice with veggies, pancakes with sirup, different breads, toasts, pastries, different cornflakes, fresh fruit, different milks, coffee, teas, etc.) incredibly well cooked. You can perfectly do the breakfast and the lunch in 1 round, if your stomach is big enough...! Open from 7.00am to 10.30am. Weak points: 1) Its staff. Waiters are marvelous, always serving you without the need of calling them... but the ppl in the reception are not so efficient (don't try to ask how the bus service of Amsterdam works, they didn't know it, even with a lot of tourists asking for the same every day). 2) Its bikes' renting service. It costs 12 euros per day and you get an old bike with problems. Better chose the McBike or the Yellow Bike services (both are nice companies with good prices, including an insurance in case of robbery we didn't get with our hotel, even paying more than the standard fare).

All rooms in Amsterdam are small - it's a small city! The Rho has recently been refurbished - the rooms are clean and well looked after. The reception staff are a joy to deal with,, they know everything! They are amusing and utterly professional. This break to Amsterdam was the best short break we have ever had. So much so that we'll be back January, May and September 2009!

The Rho hotel is not worth the money. There was very bad mould in the bathroom, the pillows were very lumpy and falling to bits, the blankets were torn. We had to chase the maid every day for toilet rolls, towels and tooth mugs. The noise outside was bad although this is down to druggies. You look onto another building and therefore have to keep the curtains closed, this was in room 228. The breakfast is grim, yes loads of choice but the scrambled eggs could bounce to the moon and back. The breakfast staff have a bad attitude, never smile and could not care less. When the eggs are refrshed they are thrown into the hopper from a distance. The bacon is overcooked, the coffee is awful but hot. They do not clear used plates away until you leave. The dishcloth they wipe the tables with is grey and filthy. I would rate this hotel a 2 star if not less, however the reception staff are pleasant, the location is great, right in the centre. The lobby is impressive. The maid is not quite with it. Our room had stuff spilt on the skirting bord by the bed, looked like tea, still there one week later....disgusting, there were stains on the bedspread. The room looked clean on entering but was far from it. I always take anti-bac wipes but why should I have to. The wet room reminded me of a butchers slab, the shower was hot one minute and cold the next. In all not a nice experience. The Dutch are not known for their hygiene standards, I may be wrong but I failed to find a good hotel with good reviews, maybe this is AMSTERAM. I do know that I would never return to the Rho Hotel. Hope this helps.

Nice hotel with excellent location for those that like to be close to the action (day and night). Neighbor of Madame Tussaud Museum and many monuments / historical sites, With 10min walking distance of the Central Station (direct train from Schiphol) you dont need a taxi to get there unless you are loaded with luggage. Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein are also 10min away by foot. RLD is 5 min away for those who like. But take care with the rooms! Initially I was given a room in the 1st floor in the street side that was very noisy and could almost be reached by the pedestrians making me feel quite insecure. But luckily I could be moved to one in the 4th floor facing a internal area that was very silent and then all was OK.

The RHO was great. The room was clean (a little small, but that's Amsterdam). The staff was friendly. There was free internet and a computer. Breakfast was excellent, and it was included in the room price. When I checked in, it was still quite early in the morning, but my room was ready and they let me have breakfast too! That was very nice of them, I thought. I only gave a 5 on quietness because with the window open, you could hear everything going on in other open-windowed rooms... including the group of 3-4 guys that were chatting all freaking night long with each other. It all went away when I closed my window, and luckily it was already cool enough. If quietness is your #1 concern, I don't recommend Amsterdam at all (regardless of the hotel you stay in... haha).

Heaters were normally put off, hence time taken to heat up the room. Rooms had no view. Sometimes no running water in tap. Overall poor value for money except the location.

Excelent place to start a day or night :-) in Amsterdam. A very good breakfast and best location: The Dam. A classic city hotel for everybody. You get a small fridge minibar style, a safe box big enough for almost every electronic device you own and free internet wifi. Very recommended for its amenities especially in comparison to the competition.

The comments regarding Hotel Rho were spot on. The rooms are small but cozy and clean. The location is perfect; in the centre of everything and within easy walking distance of the train station. The price/value is excellent since the room rate also includes breakfast which was better than average. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to others who put cleanliness, location and price as the 3 most important factors when deciding on a hotel.

Overall good experience, rooms are somewhat small but nice, can easily hear other guests passing in the hall but otherwise was quiet. Staff was knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. Nothing great but a good deal for the price and centrally located. Some shady characters congregate on the nearby corner but I had no problems.

My first time at Rho. Corridors and room were dark, lighting poor. Room was drabber than shown in the photo, but large. Good location in centre, but quite a long walk over cobbles from train station.

Great location, near Dam Square, and main street leading into Red Light District. Plenty of Bars,Resteraunts and Coffee Shops nearby. We stayed for 2 days and 1 night and a few of our party stayed for an additional night. I would go back and stay for a few more nights. Excellent breakfast included in price!! I stayed there last year and think it's fine - just a little noisy at night and sometimes early morning. Was woken up first morning by delivery to the hotel. Brilliant location. Would stay again.

The breakfast was just horrible, especially in view of the price charged. The people at the reception desk were not friendly at all and at a certain moment even aggressive. A chewing gum was attached at the bottom of a chair in my room. Even when is clearly showed this, the chewing gum was not removed. As a whole Amsterdam is overrated and the prices they charge for a hotel room and the food are just unacceptable. Amsterdam should accept that they simply can not compeed with Paris or London and should not charge people as they do.

Excellent central location with easy access to sights, shops and restaurants. It is not on a main road so no cars passing by. Very friendly and helpful staff, our group would all recommend this hotel and we will definitely be staying again.

Very conveniently located. Nice breakfast selections. We enjoyed our stay here. We are both elderly and requested rooms without stairs and were accommocated as requested. Also arrived early and were allowed to store luggage until room was ready.
