If you are a light sleeper (and don't go to discos)you will probably be disturbed by loud music from the discos/pubs nearby. Besides that the location, the breakfast served in your room and the canal view from the room made the stay in Amsterdam great. Good service.

We first booked two rooms, but after reading the rewiewes we changed to a apartment. The apartm. we received was not like those on the pictures. It was ugly - but clean. And the location was perfect. Overall we are wery satisfied, considering the low price. The staff was also very welcomming and kind.

I would not recommend this hotel for a family. We were uneasy about being placed in an appartment on the third floor with no fire escape especially as on the way to the room there was evidence that someone had been smoking a spliff in the hallway. Also there was a shattered window that had just been taped up in the room. Its just not worth the risk. If I had been with a group of friends I probably wouldn't have even noticed these things. Staff were friendly but I had already read the reviews about getting ripped off and besides the city tax they also tried to add on another 50 euro's. He took it off when I provided my booking reference.

I was happily surprised when we arrived at The Hotel Monopole, because of the bad reviews on the web-page. But Do not be afraid, yhis is a perfectly goog hotel. We stayed in the appartments and I would recommend it for young couples and other people who want a goog locaton in Amsterdam.

You'll be charged for a 5% tourist tax and an extra 5% if you want to pay by credit card. Anyway I would reccommend this hotel as a good budget solution. The location is very good! There is some noise during the night, because of a disco on the back.

When we arrived we found a very, very dirty flat/apartment. The sofa was dirty and broken (maybe the hotel took it from the street) and the windows too. We saw slices of cheesse in the ceiling. We didn´t have lights in the toilets/bathroom and, of course, we didn´t have hot water too. I don´t want to tell you something similar about the carpet or the curtains, you know what I mean. The entrance and the stairs were unbelievably dirty. We had to claim and the hotel changed our apartment. Then, we were with work noise all the rest of our stay. Simply, it was disastrous although, I must tell it, the location of the hotel is excelent. I hope these words help you to know the service of Monopole Hotel and help people to take their accommodation decission in Amsterdam. Thanks a lot.

The hotel has two different buildings. The main building may be ok, but the other one is hardly a three star-rated hotel, looks and is more a one-star. Especially for the price we have paid for it. But this little "specialty" is never mentioned on their web-site.

My wife and i went to Amsterdam as part of our honeymoon trip. We love the country very much but was utterly dissapointed and appalled by the Monopole hotel. The room had a stench. Very musky smell. There was a smaller room inside the room where they put unwanted mattress and chairs in that room. We believed the smell came from there. Furthermore, the toilet was clogged. Water cannot be drained out properly. It was so hard to take a proper shower as every now n then we had to off the water tap n wait for it to drained before continuing our shower. Moreover, half way during the shower there was no water. when my wife complained they said someone upstairs may be bathing thats why no water. That explaination was ridiculous and simply unacceptable! In addition, other hotels we stayed did not imposed a surcharge when we paid with credit card except this one. WE had to pay 5% surcharge. Its simply ridiculous especially when we are given such poor service and treatment. This hotel should be awarded with no star at all! Another thing was the price. We paid a similar price at one of the Frankfurt Hotels and it was lovely. They even had a kitchenette inside and the room was so clean. Moreover, it was a four-star hotel. MOnopole hotel is a 2star hotel and yet they cant live up to the price they charged. We hope you will do something about this so that other travellers will have this bad & disapointing experience like us. Thank you.

Upon arrival hotel charged 20 Euro's more than the quoted price when we booked. Room was nothing near to what the Internet pictures showed. Our room was approximately 9 foot by 12 foot enough room to just walk around the bed. Room had no wardrobe or drawers or table and chairs, only a collapsable suitcase stand. Thank goodness we only had one case or we would have been climbing over a second. Two makshift bedside tables, 3 hooks on the wall with 2 hangers and that was it. Not even a kettle. Hotel was listed on the Gay/Lesbian advertising in Amesterdam. Hotel situated directly above a Gay Bar. Pounding music through the walls all night. View from bedroom was 3 brick walls and a pipe. All in all it was very disappointing. If we had not paid upon arrival we would have booked out the very next day.

GOOD... We were willing to take a risk, given the other comments about noise, as we expected to be up late anyway - as it turned out, the apartment requested was down the road (no. 30) from the main hotel (no. 60), tho the nightclub looked a pretty tame affair anyway to be honest. Reception seemed a bit flustered when I wanted to see the room before paying (up front - very odd, maybe they have their reasons?), but they obliged in the end (I wasn't budging!). Position of the hotel was great tho - we walked everywhere, and it was a good base. The apartment was large and comfortable, though in need of decorating! Main things: comfy bed, and good shower - all relatively clean. Kitchen space limited, and could have done with a couple of freeby samples of coffee, tea, sugar and milk for arrival, but all functional (maybe electric kettle instead of hob one too?). Luckily there was a small convenience store close by, and we arrived during open hours. Altho not cheap, the hotel is at the cheaper end of the spectrum (Dam is a city afterall), therefore can't grumble too much over the shortcomings - all in all, the apartment gave us some happy times in Dam... thanks Monopole! We may well be back some time, and if so would look to stay there again...

We found that it was very dissapointing.. We had a view of the concreted area, that had a huge noisy airconditioning unit. Also the window did not lock at all and we used a tie down strap to secure the room. The bathroom fittings were broken and you had to hold the shower head as it fell intowards the wall...all in all not what we would class as a 3 star hotel and definately not worth $105 euro per night

A club is just under the hotel. Even on the second floor, you can hear the banging until a least 5am !! People at the reception aren't very friendly with custumers. Not even a hello when you get there or in the morning. They seem to be more interested with their television that is on 20 hours a day... I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL AT ALL AND I SUGGEST THE WEB SITE VENERE.COM TO GET REED OF IT.

Never again will I leave it to last minute to book. I was relieved to get a room (any room), but I knew something was strange when they asked me to pay on arrival. When we entered the room our hearts sank, it was very, very basic. We considered asking for our money back, but as it was already evening, and I knew from ringing around early in the week, that many hotels were fully booked. A very small room with the European style 2 single beds pushed together. A single advocado-coloured sink was the only "plumbing" in the room, no en suite facilities, very thin quilts on the beds, a couple of plastic glasses were the sole nod to drinking. A portable TV (with no remote control). What you might expect from a seaside British seaside B&B in the 1970s - not what I expect from a major European city.

DO NOT STAY HERE! The Hotel Monopole was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in my life. The room we had was tiny, just about room for the double bed but nothing else, dirty and noisy. No cupboard, nowhere to hang clothes, shared toilets which were not advertised on the website. The staff were uncourteous, rude, unhelpful and asked for all money to be paid upfront in cash even before we had our room. On a better note the location was very central.

We ordered triple room with shower and toilet inside. Instead we got at double room in a nearby house with an extra camp bed and no toilet inside the room. The room was small and with the extra bed was there hardly any space left. Breakfast was eaten in the reception at the hotel, since we didn't stay at the actual hotel (the other guest received breakfast as room service). We received 30 € in discount in cash, and was promised 20€ extra in discount transfered to the credit card we payed with. The last 20€ hasn't been received.

This hotel is in an excellent location in Amsterdam, it is safe and central. However the hotel is located above a noisy night club which plays music until 3-4am. The only good thing about this hotel was it's location: right in the center on Amsterdam. Everything else was miserable. 1. you enter the hotel and it always had this really wierd smell. 2. we had to pay more than the original price and then they made us wait 5 days for the change!!! 3. other people have already mentioned the noise, it's all night on thirsdays, fridays, saturdays and sundays. 4. There is no privicy! You can hear everything happening in the hallways! 5. The room was one big bed taking all the space. It was so small that we had to jump over our bags. There was no canal view, but a view to an inside patio with pipes and smoke. 6. The bed was making weird noises with the slightest movement! We booked this hotel, because all the other cheaper hotels were booked. I don't recomend it to anyone. There really isn't anything there to deserve it's 3 stars! Don't be misleaded by the photos. One morning we even had to listen to the stuff arguing about something. They were screaming at each other. Oh, and there was no breakfast! I've been to cheap hotels before, in Amsterdam, but they were way better than this, and cheaper! The last time I was here, we paid only 60 euros a night, we had breakfast, taxes included, and a beatiful spatious room. You should really book this hotel if there is nothing else available! Finally, this place is overpriced, dirty and noisy. STAY AWAY!

We had to pay 27 more euros because of the taxes (even if the commercial said tax included)and because we wanted to pay by credit card. English/Italiano *********************************************** English The hotel Monopole in Amsterdam was a complete DISASTER and when I complained with the landlady she faked her surprise at my comments about the noise. They are absolutely miserable, that's why they ask people to pay in advance. If I was in UK I would have called the police. It's a shame! Unfortunately this also affect my opinion on the Venere services, I would be more careful in the future. I never had such surprise through other websites that I use quite confidently and frequently. It happen to me to know about Venere by word of mouth but my word would be absolutely different. I totally recommend to AVOID THIS HOTEL! *********************************************** Italiano Il mio soggiorno all'hotel Monopole e' stato orribile. Le stanze sono minuscole, il bagno in camera e' ridicolo, il lavabo e' in camera e il WC e' saparato, la doccia sta praticamente sopra il WC. Il lavabo era fermato da una tavoletta di legno messa per traverso, in precarieta'. I fili elettrici scoperti.

I have just returned from 3 nights in Amsterdam and unfortunately I feel I must complain about the accommodation which I booked through Venere.com. It can only be described as terrible. Firstly the accommodation was advertised as being 3 star. Your ideas of a 3 star hotel may differ from mine but here are a just a FEW complaints about the room that I feel fall well short of that rating: Absolutely no cupboard or wardrobe space whatsoever! Really, nothing at all to put any clothes or belongings in at all! There was a couple of coathangers hanging from the wall, was this the Monopole's idea of hanging space. I had to live for 4 days out of my bag on the floor. That is ridiculous. No tea or coffee making facilities. Absolutely no means of refreshment apart from an extortionately priced vending machine by the reception. The view was not a nice picturesque scene over the canal as advertised but of the back of some industrial building with huge pipes blowing out steam constantly. The washing facilities were a joke. The walk in shower was not useable as the hotel had fitted a large outdoor style light in the cubicle which looked like it could be a massive safety risk. The sink (opposite the main door!)had no towel rail therefore I had to hang my towel on the door handle to the shower cubicle. The mirror above the sink could only be described as filthy and battered and was illuminated by an old green 'exit' light box! The walls to the accommodation were disgusting. There were all marked and dirty and near the bed area were several large patches of replastered wall which had not been completed. The toilet wall was tiled and several of those were chipped and broken. The bedding was very tatty and actually had holes in it. The central heating system kept going off and on for no apparent reason. When it was on the noise it made was so loud I couldn't sleep, I'm really not joking! The accommodation itself was in what could only be described as att

Staff did not lend themselves to being helpful and friendly. Other guests asked for their money back as the hotel is located right next to a night club. This causes noise till four in the morning and one could not sleep. This is not said on the website. Also the price quoted does not include other incedentals like tourist taxes. This should all be part of the price quoted.

The room, however, was clean, and the showering/toilet facilities were also in good order - although I was given the impression that the shower would be on the same floor as our room, in fact it was the floor below. Generally good, and I felt I did get value for money.

1. Rooms does not contain toilet/shower. 2. Long time was not repaired. 3. A dance club downstairs open till very late. I would never book that room if I knew the (1). And I think that www.venere.com was not present the hotel properly, they should state that this rooms with shared facilities. Thank you.

The amount of noise entering the room from the road outside was at times unbearable even in the early hours of the morning so i suffered a very interupted sleep. Also which was worse than that was one night when we returned to the room i heard a scuffling noise coming from the bin in the room. As i aproached the bin i could see something trying to get out of it which turned out to be a big mouse or a small rat! It managed to get out of the bin and ran under the beds, where there was a hole in the wall where i suspect it went. All in all i wasnt happy with the hotel at all.

The stairs in this building are horribly steep, the "bathroom" is enlighted by the "EXIT" sign which is on the hole night and day, we had to have open the door to the toilett the hole night which is also the door to the "bathroom" so the light didn't disturb us while sleeping, the first day, or bed was left as it was - no room service
