Our room reeked of smoke even though all the rooms in the hotel were supposed to be non-smoking. Even with the window left open for a whole day it still smelled. This made for uncomfortable sleeping and all time spent in the room was unpleasant. The hotel offered to refund us if we didn't want to stay but it was going to be difficult to find something else - most hotels were booked out for Friday/Saturday night.

My wife and I had a pleasant stay at the hotel. we were moved to a nice, big and clean room with very spacious beds. Our view was mostly of the hostel across the street but that's better than the back alleys we had in the other places we stayed in. Free Internet is a big plus. Food places abound, with a great variety so no problem there.

The best location for people who want youth culture in Amsterdam & to travel by trains. Price is reasonable. Rooms are clean. Breakfast is also good. I recommend to people who don't like dormitory but need reasonable hotel. I don't recommend to people who are old couple or family , because the hotel is surrounded by sex & drugs.

Great location, just a couple of blocks from the Central Train Station and in the heart of Red Light District. For a brief touristic stay is perfect. Do not expect much more than from any budget hotel (small and no-so-quiet rooms, regular breakfast, etc.)

nice little hotel very well situated, shame the staff is so cold and could do with a bit more smiling especially when welcoming new clients. room was relatively quiet except for the the fact that we were just above the side passage of the hotel and the noise of rubbish being dumped there (like glass bottles) wasn't very considerate of the customers sleeping just 2 meters away from it.

Arrived as hotel was celebrating an anniversary. Probably due to that staff were tired. Everything went wrong. Very slow check-in, booking couldn't be found, room allocated had someone elses bags in it, an additional (unannounced)€ 5 charge requested for credit card payment, my ID card was left and forgotten (fortunately not by me) on the counter... However, this was my fourth visit and I know that this catalogue of misery is not typical. Normally a nice hotel. I guess I will give them one more go and see if this visit was an exception or the new rule.

Great hotel in the middle of the red light district, only 5 minutes from train station. You get what you paid for, nothing special but rooms were clean (only some stains on sheet but nothing to mention) and hotel staff very friendly (24 hours available). The major plus for this hotel was the location directly in the red light distrit! We receivced a room to the backyard and it was totally quiet! Great stay! If theres a second time Amsterdam...than its going to be again the Luxer if they keep this price/quality relation!

The staff at the Luxer were extremely helpful and friendly. Our room was small, but exactly what we were expecting/hoping for. All of the rooms are non-smoking, but this shouldn't deter those in town for the coffeeshops. This just means you'll spend less time in your room and more time experiencing this great city. The Luxer's location is superb! Visitors will find themselves very close to Centraal Station, just outside the red-light district, and a short walk to anything there is to see and do in the Dam. Be sure to stop by Conscious Dreams: Kokapelli just across the street. So close it might as well be in the lobby, this wonderful little shop quickly became our first and last stop of each day. Overall, our experience at the Luxer was 100% positive, and we wouldn't even consider booking anywhere else on our next visit.

The perfect place to stay a short time in Amsterdam for a quick visit. The rooms were correctly arranged and cleaned, and the bathroom was ok. The best thing is the hotel situation, just in the city center, very close to everything and especifically to Dam Square and the Red Light District. Besides, is the cheapest option I could find in Amsterdam. Not recomended for just married people.

Repeat stay and booking through Venere and similarly good service from both, each time. Hotel is ideally located, 5 minute walk from Central Train Staion which in turn is only an 18 minute train ride away from Schiphol International Airport (AMS). Good Hotel accomodation & customer service. Rooms are adequately sized considering you shouldn't be spending much of your valauble vacation/trip time in a Hotel anyway :-). Buffet Breakfast is great quality and value for money. Proximity to important landmarks, transportation and attractions is outstanding. Complimentary WiFi access is also a plus, though some rooms have better access than others. Staff members have been there for many years now and are both knowledgeable and loyal to providing great customer service. Highly recommended for the travellers who intend to spend most of their time venturing and exploring the city and looking for clean, comfortable, cost effective and customer oriented accomodation. Thumbs Up!

This was our 3rd stay at the Luxer we find it very central for everything. It is close to Central Station so from getting off the plane to the hotel you are out enjoying yourself within 1 hour. Everything is close by and good night life. Hotel no longer includes breakfast but you can eat close by, staff are all friendly we would always stay here and recommend to friends. Enjoy Amsterdam!!

Rooms as declared on the website; used towels were changed daily. No problems at checking-in/out. Given that the hotel stays at the border of the "Red District", some attention should be payed when going out at late evening and night. If you have a room on the back of the building, the noise coming from the street will be minimal; some noise could come form neighbouring rooms.

I liked to stay in this hotel because it's really close to everything! For the bad point, the shower was a pity. Almost no water. They should totally change it. Exept this point, all the hotel is good. But I only gave it a 6 for the SHOWER that is REALLY important to me! lol

Location was very good. The rooms were very clean, but my room was, in particular, very small. Other rooms I saw were a bit more spacious. The staff were welcoming and polite and the rooms cleaned on time and in good order everyday. My only complaint is the noise. Perhaps we were unlucky with the people who were staying in the hotel at the same time or maybe it is always like that, but the noise was terrible and was ongoing until 6am-7am. Other than that, I would say that the Hotel Luxer is a very good hotel and well worth a stay. I would stay there again and I suppose that says it all.

Generally hotel was OK. In the beginning we were placed into a small, full of cigarette smoke smell room (although smoking is not permitted in the hotel). But we asked for a transfer into another room, wich was fine and more spacey, but not very clean. We found some hair in the bathroom. Sound insulation is very poor, we could hear our neighbours in the coridor. Hotel location is good, it is located close to Central station, but because it is a city centre, restaurants are very expensive and service/food can be poor. A glass of water or Sprite cost 4.5 euros in a next door spanish restaurant. Remember, it is red light district, full of drug addicts, drug dealers and strange people.

The location is perfect if you are arriving by train. The surrounding area is the Red lights district and the whole street is full of coffeeshops etc. At least our room window was not to the street side so it was quiet and ok but the noise from the other rooms might disturb somebody. I will definitely stay here again. It is literally a 2-minute walk from the train station. The staff was excellent, although they need to change their breakfast accounting system (you need to pick up a chip at the front desk first). The RLD is a few feet away if that's what you're here for. This is a basic 3-star hotel; I honestly don't know if high maintenance travelers would like it because I'm not high maintenance.

We stay very badly. The bed was not a double-bed but two beds joined, spite our explicit request by mail (I cancelled another reservation just for this reason): it was very inconvenient. The lamp was behind our heads and there are no place to put the pillow. The bed was loud Also the sheets are two single bed sets, folded each others and the first night they were really dirthy. Then they was not changed for four days. The room and the bathroom were very small. Surroundings were inside the "red zone" and not near that as specified in the website.

This was my third time in sin city and my third stay at the Luxer. This is a small, cool, boutiqie type of place. You can NOT beat the location if you take the train from the airport (why wouldn't you 6 Euros, 20 mins)and you are in AMS to party in the Red Light and take in the Dutch culture. The place is clean, safe (despite many shady party types outside). Bottom line....I love Amsterdam and the Luxer!
USA, Nov 2007
Hotel Luxer's location cannot be beat. It is a 5 minute walk from Central Station and very easy to find. It is one long block off of Damrak which is the main street for all other forms of transportation. It is located in the heart of the Red Light District and consequently busy and boisterous well into normal sleep hours. A nice breakfast was offered in a small area off of the main lobby but the lobby itself was generally full of rather unsavory looking characters. We were greeted warmly though and after a short delay checked into our room. Housekeeping needed to pay attention to the needs in the rooms..ie. toilet paper was not replaced but the beds were clean and comfortable. Our major complaint in the rooms were no heat but we were finally given a space heater which actually worked out ok. Noise was the main issue for us as it never stopped outside our window. Bars and activity are going on until well after 3 in the morning and then the street cleaning and city services start. It may have been better further back in the hotel but our room faced the main street.

The staff was great. Very attentive and helpful. No complaints there. The hotel itself however, halls, room etc., were comparible to government housing. Considered a 3-star??? Carpets were low grade, heavily stained/soiled. Walls needed repainting. Fluorescent lighting everywhere. Although there were signs "No Smoking," the smell of cigarettes was nauseating. There was no a/c, luckily, we didn't need it. It was very, very close to the Red Light as promised. However, this area and neighboring streets is very seedy, dirty.

The personal was really very frienly and nice, they helped in one difficult situation for me. The hotel is very near to the railway station and it's very easy to reach it and also the main places to see in Amsterdam. But only 2 things were non pleasant: firstly, the lines of the water on the plaster 50-100 cm from the ground, so the walls were damaged(like they had a flood). Another is that it seems to me I saw a mouse at the groundfloor near the kitchen. And also I prefer to know before ordering the hotel if the breakfast is including into price of staying.

The hotel bordered the red light district, so guests need to be aware of that. We enjoyed staying there as it was convenient. After checking the cost of some of the other hotels we felt that Luxer was good value for money. We missed out on the full breakfast one morning as the staff told us a new system had been implemented. No other mention of this new system was made during the rest of our stay and we wondered if it was in fact a staff dispute.

Good quality for money. The hotel is 5-min walk from Central station, in the Red Quarter :) and surronded by bars and restaurants. Very suitable for young people, though I've seen quite some older people as well. The rooms are not very big and - do not let the website full you ! - the twin rooms are not more spacious. The breakfast is included and is OK, rooms are clean. Very friendly staff, we would come back.

I stayed at the Luxor in December just before Christmas 2006, here are my comments: Security - the Hotel is almost right next to the Red Light District with inevitble seedy characters around. However, the Luxor has 24-hour buzz you in, and CCTV on every floor, and room access is by Security Cards. Room size - small, but clean, and bathroom modern and nice. Hot water no problem, but little over a drip in my shower! Surroundings - clean place. The entrance has a bar, and its nice and clean and cozy and pleasent. Beds - 2 singles placed together, can't really sleep in the middle. Breakfast - not bad, and included in the price. Buffet style. Good start to the day. Typical Dutch style - cheese slices, sliced sausage, Breadbasket, orange juice, coffee, Fruit salad, Museli, Boiled Eggs, Spreads, etc. Conclusion. The location is fantastic, and you are not going to get a big room based on this location since all buildings in this area are small. All in all, the Luxor is a pleasent place to stay. I have zero complaints about the place and I will stay here again unless I see a Hotel with a better review at the same price and location.

If you're looking for a Hotel that is located in the heart of the Coffee shop area that is clean and reasonably priced then this is it. The rooms are adequate and clean. There are a number of nice restaurants just yards away, close to pubs and clubs with the Grasshopper two just around the corner and the red light district the other corner. The train station, bus center and canal boats are all 100-200 yards away. Cannot fault this place at all and I will certainly be going back. Probably not ideal for families as there are sex shops in the surrounding areas but everyone else should find this location perfect.

For the money spent, and the central location of this Hotel in the ciry of Amsterdam, we were overall Very Satisfied w/ this Hotel! The rooms are spatially economical, but not too small. Just enough space to be comfortable. Because of the close quarters of the rooms & the city streets, the photos do not do the Hotel & Rooms justice. But as you will see - if you visit - the Hotel's economy of space is a direct response to it's immediate urban surroundings and an extension of the fabric of the city. The Hotel is clean and quiet and is a short walking distance from the center of the downtown area, the main train station, the cultural & entertainment districts and many touring opportunities. The staff was courteous and fun and we spent hours into the night & morning chatting w/ the overnight receptionist(s) and enjoying drinks the bar, which is at the Reception Desk and open 24 hours/day to Guests. Lack of internet access was a small issue. If you're on vacation in Amsterdam you should be enjoying all the city has to offer...but if/when you need quick internet access, it would have been nice to have it (in room or in lobby). Overall, the experience was quite good and I would recommend this Hotel to Singles, Couples or Small Groups of Travelers who intend to spend more time in the city and just wish to have a clean & comfortable hotel to return to after a long day of exploration, with minimal walking distance involved.

when we booked into the hotel we were given a room card, went upstairs opened our room and there was someones belongings already in the room. went downstairs and told the receptionist, after a conversation we were given another room, went to this room and the key card would'nt work! back to reception we went, receptionist reprogrammed the key card we went back, this time the key card worked opened went into our room and it was 2 twin beds, we had booked a double, so back to the receptionist we went, got given another room, got there and once again the key card didn't work! eventually we got into our room which was clean, tidy, not overly big. no tea/coffee making facilities which would have been nice. Everyday apart from one we had to have our key card reprogrammed and it wasn't just us.we never had an apology throughout our stay. One final thing that irritated us a little was we would put the do not disturb sign on the door and the maid still came in.

Excellente localisation. Rapport qualite/prix excellent. Si je dois retourner à Amsterdam, je choisirais cet hotel.

Das Hotel ist enorm ringhörig!!! Der Lärm von ausserhalb ist kein Problem.

A good place to stay, the only inconvenience I remember is that people are allowed to smoke in public areas which I see as violence to other guests

I found the location of the hotel great as it was near most of the main places to see. The room was nice & cosy, the only thing I would say is that the shower was bad, hot but hardly any water came out. And only one other thing that there was no heating in the room & Feb in Amsterdam is very cold! Over all the stay in the hotel was lovely and were made to feel welcome.

Nice place for the money; the gentleman running the front counter late night was a joy to talk with.

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at the Luxor - the rooms were fine and the breakfast plentiful - the eating area could get a bit cramped if a lot of people ate at once but they did serve until 11:00am to help alleviate the problem (and to let those of us with hangovers recover!) The hotel is basically IN the Red Light area which was not a problem to us but I suppose could upset others - it is however ideally situated for the trains, buses and trams a very important fact when getting around Amsterdam.

We were so pleased with the hotel, particularly for the low price. The room was clean, the staff (especially the night staff) were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was plentiful. The location was excellent, although there was a small amount of noise from the street, but this was not a problem. I would definately recommend this hotel to couples and groups of friends.

Contrary to the web site the hotel does not offer an airport pick up service (which was why we picked this hotel over others), having said that we found ourselves welcome and more than comfortable. If you are going to Amseterdam and dont wish to see the seedier side of it, it is best to avoid hotels in this ares, that said the location for us was perfect, surrounded by decent restaurants (for mex check out cafepacifico 5 doors away, and for italian the first door on your right after exiting the hotel). Dont be fooled by the pic on the website, the room is not that roomy, though you do get some English channels on the TV. If you get there early leave your baggage at the station (5 mins walk) as there is no lockup room to leave it in (its left next to the bar in reception area)

The room was cheap and located close to Central Station. My room was significantly smaller than the webpage photo. Due to the location, there were drug dealers and beggars right outside the hotel entrance. The television flickered badly. The front desk did not understand English well and people calling in were not able to reach me. Wake up calls were scheduled but never came. For the price and location (and the early check-in I was offered), I would stay again. But bring an alarm clock and mediocre expectations.

Excellent situation, very close to Central Station. Also very close to shopping area, Dam Square, Ronin Street .... Very good breakfast. Situated in a very nice street with a lot of Coffe shops, restaurants, Pubs where to take something to drink or eat. We will repeat this hotel in our next trip to Amsterdam.

The description offered didn't insist on the fact that the hotel was located in a pedestrian zone where cars couldn't park. The city center is very expensive to visitors travelling by car (25 euros per day to park a car minimum).

We were located in the sister hotel at the last moment - the hotel probably knew this for a while and did not let us know until we called to confirm at the day of arrival. However they were trying to be helpful from then on. It was a fine experience
