Three of us stayed for 8 nights (2 rooms) on a first visit to Amsterdam in mid-November. The hotel is a no-frills establishment, but that is reflected in the price you pay. Rooms are small, but warm and comfortable, and there is a decent bathroom. Apart from one or two noisy guests en passant the place is very quiet--especially given you're in a wonderfully central location. Step outside and you walk along a canal, but you're only 10 minutes from Dam Sq. The included breakfast is fine (limited but as much as you want), and the staff are very pleasant and helpful. We'd certainly stay here again.

very nice hotel and people, very small rooms and steep stairs, but that's the price for staying down town, I presume. Absolutely recommended

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. The location is very central but also peaceful and our triple room overlooked the canal which was lovely. The bathroom had a good shower and plenty hot water and the beds were very comfortable, we enjoyed the buffet continental breakfast which is included in the price. The staff were friendly and helpful. We would stay here again.

The room was small and simple but had everything I needed for a splendid stay in Amsterdam. Breakfast was adequate. The staff was very helpful when it came to information about Amsterdam. I had a wonderful view from my window. The hotel is the dream of a sight seeing tourist. There are several must sees within walking distance: the Amsterdam museum, the Anne Frank house, Westerkerk, the flower market, and Spui to name a few. There's also a tram station right opposite the Amsterdam museum from which you can go to the major museums of the city (Van Gogh, Reijks) without changing. When I come back to this marvellous city, I will certainly stay at Hoksbergen again.

We really enjoyed our stay in Apartment 19. The beds were quite comfy and the room was very quiet. The stairs to the apartment are steep and very narrow, but when we checked in we were told that and given the choice of apartment 19 or another one. It was worth the work to get our suitcases up to the apartment, but might be very difficult for older travelers to do so.

Convenient location to the heart of Amsterdam, yet quiet. Had a front canal facing room on the second floor with a good view. Steep shallow stairs,no elevator so not for the physically challenged. Friendly helpful stsff. No internet. Bonus morning continental breakfast. Recommended.

I would describe the hotel as good. It was clean and a good location however I didn't feel the staff did anything more than the minimum that was required. I've stayed in other similar type hotels in Europe and found the staff at those hotels a bit more friendly and willing to do that little bit extra. For example, breakfast is served from 8-10. We were leaving for the airport at 7:45. I wanted to grab some breakfast from the buffet to eat on the train. This wasn't provided even though the food is laid out by 7:30. I've been at other hotels where this was allowed.

Awesome canal-sde hotel. Five minutes from Dam area, tram stop around corner. Room 10 less than 10x10 feet and bath very small, but well served for backpackers with small suitcase and only for sleeping. VERY steep stairs so must be in shape and have no mobility issues. Staff were superb and very helpful. Will return!

When we were really craving some homemade pasta in Amsterdam, the gentleman at reception knew a good place and even called and booked us a reservation. Space is at a premium in Amsterdam, so open roomey ares only come at a real premium. Our room was a little cramped... but that's part of what it means to be in Amsterdam. Thought our stay w/them was wonderful.

Thank you very much for an excellent stay. Our room was perfect, a double bed with a view over the canal, breakfast was lovely and there was plenty for all to eat, and continuously replenished. The staff were extremely friendly and very helpful when answering emails before our stay. Thankyou for making us feel so welcome, I would happily reccomend the hotel to my friends and family.
