HEM was good for the price, but the shower was completely visible to those in the room (only glass panels...), which was awkward when we were a group of 2 girls and 1 guy. The water pressure of the sink was difficult to control, and the hot water and water pressure of the shower were only sometimes controllable. In fact, the shower almost ran out of water on our last morning there. Overall, though, I'd say HEM was decent for the price.

I have stayed in the HEM before- and I think, that with some exceptions (e.g. snacks in the evening)the quality has gone down over time. Basically the HEM is a budget hotel, and good for it's price. To achieve profitability however the management aim to push large numbers through, and charge for every little additional service:this puts some strain on the quality of the service actually delivered. Thus the internet provided in the lobby is very expensive- and there is no phone in the rooms.Instructions how to get to the hotel are also woefully inadequate- no mention being made of the very convenient Henk Sneevlietweg railwaystation near the hotel for example-or where to get off the number 2 tram when coming from Amsterdam's Central Station..

HEM Hotel is far from actual Amsterdam central. The day we arrived we had to wait nearly 2 hours for them to clean our room. The passage ways to our room smelt old and was humid. The TV remote did not work. The telephone did not work. We ended up staying only 1 night of the 4 nights booked! The worst hotel I have ever been stayed at.

I was on a trip with some friends in Amsterdam. In this Hotel you get a comfortable housing for a good price. The rooms are clean. Just the view out of some of the rooms isn't exactly brilliant. Furthermore it's a little outside of the city. All in all, if you're looking for a cheap hotel, I can recommend HEM Hotel, especially for young people.

I was pleasantly surprised during my stay at HEM Amsterdam. We were looking for an inexpensive place to stay for one night and a chance to sightsee Amsterdam as we were on transit on our way to Canada. The hotel was clean with a spacious room and a nice view from the window. The staff was friendly and helpful. Even though the hotel is a not in the city centre, it is easy to get there by taxi. I would stay at HEM again when i'm in Amsterdam.

The maids were amazing cleanliness is their virtue. However, I did not appreciate the constant knocks on door by their supervisor especially when catching my partner in an undressed state. One barman in particular (resembles dracular) hunted us out the bar so he could listen to his Jazz music..... customer service by him leaves a lot to be desired ....

The main problem I had when staying at the hoel was that rain water was leaking into my room (404) and staff did very little in relation to the leak and no offer was made to move me into another room. The water whilst passing from the roof through to the room mixed with some other substance (possibly a sealant) causing it to heavily stain both the net and main curtain and at one point there was a pool of water sitting on the window-sill for more than 12 hours. This made my stay at the hotel a miserable one.

The hotel is a two star hotel, definitely not a three star hotel. Hairdryer does not work, no lift working 100 %, tv did not work, no bathmat, no toilet brush. Water very hot, breakfast was for the price very good. Light bulbs far too dim. Clothes hanging open.

Hotel very average range. Staff not friendly. Breakfast and pay very expensive which is unacceptable. Considering the price of rooms, breakfast should be included in the overall price. Cleanliness inadequate. Hotel very noisy and not at all pleasant.I recommend you to book your stay at this hotel. The area is frankly pathetic.

The rooms were sparse - in fact there are separate sections and we were provided a run down section of the hotel. Construction was on going and there was hardly any comfort through-out the stay. The mattress of the bed in room 118 is half broken / crushed and we had a bad backache due to it. There were mosquitoes as the room was facing the garden outside and we couldn't sleep at all. Overall it was a forgettable experience; the steep price of the spartan room will serve as a reminder not to opt for this hotel again...

This is not a hotel, its a run down youth hostel. We had left booking a room in Amsterdam very late, and this was the only place left, but they had massively increased the prices. They have an auto check in system that does not work, but have still cut back on their reception staff to compensate, so we had to wait for ages just to get in. In fact we gave up checking out altogether because the machines did not work and the queue of angry people trying to speak to the receptionist was so long I would still be there now. The room itself was OK, but the drains from the bathroom were blocked so everytime we took a shower the bathroom flooded, but there was no one at the hotel to tell. The location is in the middle of the most run down part of Amsterdam, almost the ghetto. The moral of the story is only stay here if there is absolutely nowhere else in Amsterdam left.

It was not my first stay in the Hem hotel. I knew what to expect. The room was clean, but this time one big towel was missing and there was a strange smell in the bathroom. The good point is the parking lot where you can leave your car even if you have checked out, and take the tram (Lijn 2 is at 5 min walk from the hotel).

If you can't afford a better hotel than this, stay in a hostel. While the rate I paid was really cheap (but more than a hostel), I would not return here again. There was construction noise or some kind of pounding until midnight! The heater didn't work - cold. The front desk would not help. We could not get ice for an injury. There is no fridge in the room, obviously no microwave either. Luckily, it was so cold near the window, that our drinks stayed cold there :( This hotel is near some REALLY bad neighborhoods - I am a strong healthy male, and did not feel safe going 1 block away - like US Housing Projects. Apparently they only have rooms with 2 small single beds. I was willing to pay more for an upgrade, but the desk said the hotel had nothing else. This was the worst hotel of a 2-week Holland trip.

There was mold in my room. On top of that, we could hear every door on our floor each time they SLAMMED closed, and I'm pretty sure I could hear the people above me. As a final seal of unpleasantness the staff were overworked and therefore short and often could not provide the items or service I requested. The room did smell like sanitizer, so I guess it was clean.

Hem hotel is a dormitory not a hotel. They were working in the corridor and in other rooms close to mine. as a consequence, i had bad smell and a lot of dust during all my staying. Employees are quite professional, but the service provided is below my expectations, for many reasons. Even if it is cheap, the quality of the service provided is low. I am sure i won't come back to that dormitory

The reviews I read before booking this hotel were mixed. Hotel is situated faily close to tram and metro, grocery, beer and wine store, and a few restaurants. Breakfast was good. However, sections of the hotel are filthy, old and run down. Wireless internet worked only in the lobby and not in the rooms as indicated in ads. Hotel staff were untrained, overworked and powerless to help or make decisions. Manager was mysteriously unavailabe whenever a problem was encountered. I witnessed several guests attempting to get problems resolved as I sat working on the computer in the lobby. I do NOT recommend this hotel unless your budget is extremely limited.

ONLY 1 LIFT FOR MANY ROOMS (IMPOSSIBLE TO GET IT). DARK ROOM, VERY POOR LIGHT, NO LIGHT ON THE BATH MIRROR (IMPOSSIBLE SHAVING), ONLY 1 TOWEL FOR FACE, HANDS AND BODY. 1 LITTLE SOAP AND 1 SHAMPOO SACHET LIKE IN THE 70'S, NO SHOWER CAP. NO INTERNET CONNECTION (THEY SAID IT WAS BROKEN!). WE ASKED TO BOOK A TABLE FOR US IN A RESTAURANT, ANSWER: "NO WE DO NOT DO IT". THE ONLY GOOD THING, HOTEL CLOSE TO THE AIRPORT AND THE BREAKFAST BUFFET WAS OK.

Considering the average price for a room in Amsterdam, this hotel is not bad only if you are not too peaky, and if your plan is to spend the most of your time outside. They should put a timetable for Tram n.2, which is the only way to get there, on a wall in the hall and suggest the shortcut.

We have stayed at the HEM about 4 times now and so it can´t be that bad! When we first arrived, the welcome we received was not as warm as when they got to know us better. Some of the receptionists are not very professional but all in all they gave us all the information/help we needed without going overboard to help. One of them was especially nice and gave us a lovely big room when we returned. The snacks and drinks at the bar are expensive, however there is a supermarket nearby. The tram is really near too (number 2) which takes you to the centre in around 15 mins. The rooms are spacious but if you are there in winter, be sure to ask for heating in the room as some don´t have it! We stayed when the price was low, sometimes it is really expensive depending on the occupation of course.

The hotel urgently needs some renovations, e.g. heating in the bathroom! The surrounding of the hotel isn't very nice. So, if you are a tourist I'd recommend you look for a hotel in nicer areas and closer to the inner city. But if you just need a bed to sleep in, HEM Hotel is alright.

I found this the ideal location for the more mature person. The staff were excellent, friendly and very efficient. The breakfast was one of the best we have sampled for this price group of hotel. Transport to and from the hotel was close at hand. Highly recommended for those just looking for a base to sleep and have breakfast. The hotel has a nice airy and relaxed atmosphere. Excellent ratio price/conditions, good location, near tram no.2 which provides quick transportation to the center of the city and good night transportation. Quiet area, safe. Spacious room with air conditioning. Very nice staff and good services. But, as I travelled by car, I find the parking tax (12 euros per day) a little bit expensive, regarding that the car is parked in the hotel yard. Overall, I recomand HEM hotel to anyone visiting Amsterdam, especially for those who want a quiet refuge after a "hot" day/night. I will certainly accommodate at HEM my next visit to Amsterdam.

At first, we thought the price was economic for Amsterdam(around 70€/night) but the quality/price ration was poor. The hotel is divided in 2 parts : an extension must have been made a few years ago and all rooms of that side are without air conditionning + you get the warmth rejected by the air conditionning from the other part of the hotel, meaning that our room was a complete sauna during the stay. This part of the hotel is located just over the bar which basically means you will get no chance of sleeping before 1am. Staff not correct : once we requested some towels because the cleaning staff had forgotten to put new one. It lasted 45 minutes before getting some : I directly went to the reception to get some. This hotel looks good on the paper, the reality is quite different.

The hotel is close to the metro so it's very quick to get into the city centre because HEM it's located outside of it. We got a Smoking room, which was ok for the price we got a double room. The problem was that at night all that area smelled a lot of smoke and so the room did. The Shower door did not close from the inside, only from the outside, Some tile floors were creaked, and the trash can did not open trough the foot pedal. The beds were nice. Wireless is kinda expensive. A whole day is 10 euros.

Our only criticism of HEM is that there was no place in the room to store your clothes. There was a narrow closet with 4-5 hangers, but no drawers, no shelves. For two adults staying a week, we really needed someplace to unpack. We were left living literally out of our suitcases because there was not place to put anything.

HEM was clean, quiet but seemed a bit run down. There were a few items that were not there or broken and despite promises to rectify them nothing happened. The hotel is not central but close to the trams, however the use of "strippen" is essential otherwise transport is very expensive. The hotel could be a bit more forthcomming with advice/map etc.

The hotel was pretty clean. The front desk attendants were helpful. I think the hotel was a little expensive for what it was. I, however, think that may have been because it was coming close to Queens day even though we left almost a week prior. My main complaint is that we put our do not disturb sign on the door to our room when we left and when we came back ppl had come in to clean up our room. The room was cleaned up around our stuff and none of it was touched, but do not disturb is do not disturb and they should have never been in there to begin with. Everything else was good.

This hotel is all about charges and service fees. There is a television in the room, but a hefty per diem to watch movies on it. Laundry service is pricy and charged per item of clothing. Breakfast is extra, and there is an overpriced food counter in the lobby. The area is not a bustling, commercially successful neigborhood--a few empty, overpriced restaurants in strip malls and some quiet apartment buildings. Grab a tram into the heart of the city ASAP. Location is just outside the central transit zone, which bumps up the price of a ride a little. Transit workers are helpful and will give good directions to the hotel as well as calling out the hotel at the tram stop. There was an additional 3 euro fee to my prepaid cost, for which I didn't demand an explanation. Nice room & bath. Great rate. Don't think of smoking in your room: you will be fined (see opening remark.) Avoid accruing extra charges and you will be pleased.

U can go to center with tram Nr 2 with 2,4 euro, in 15-20 minutes so is not so dificult to get there. The accomodation is OK, U allways have warm water, warm in the room. Rooms are even big, but if you have the luck to get a room with window to the inner court U won't open it. The bathroom is small with a stand-up shower without any glass or cabin so the water fills all the floor in the bathroom. It's an excelent choice for budget traveling in groups or in couples so I dont't regret a thing.

The hotel was in an suburban area and connects to the town center only with tram. The distance from hotel to the nearest tram stop is 10 minutes by walk and difficult to find without detailed directions. The rooms were clear, but noisy and cold during the night. In our room, the rain went through the window. The bathroom had an awful smell, possibly coming from the sewers.

At the restaurant on the ground floor, I ordered one of the food on menu, but they did not have one that day. That was not a big problem, but a little sad. I think laundry rate is too high. They should just have coin-laundry machine so that we can wash clothings at a reasonable price.

Terrible welcome... the recepcionist didn't even ask my name, just because it wasn't 1pm, and just tould me to wait (it was 9am!). Wen I asked to at least leave the lugage, I was pointed to a room (that had no lock nor a staff from the hotel) that was full of bags from other guests. To be clear: there is no security at all if you want to leave your luggage and take it later. They didn't even know I was a guest when they pointed the room, and I could just take someonelse bag and walk away if I wanted. I tould him I would rather wait for the room and asked for him to tell me when it was ready, when he said "ok" without even look at me. I asked: you don't want my name? He anwsered: ok. So that was the first time he saw I was a guest, and just because I offered my name. 2 hours later I went back to him asking if the room was ready (because I saw people checking in), when he just aswered: sorry, just 1pm. I was realy disapointed with the service... I knew the check-in was at 1pm but you expect at least some effort from the staff to make the room available a little bit earlier. I can't believe all the rooms were availible at 1pm at the same time in a hotel with dozens of rooms. I work in a hotel and we always give priority to the guests that arrive early, at least telling the house-keppers wich rooms to clean first. That's the minimum. The other thing I didn't like was that I booked a double room, but they gave a twin... with no explanation. And when I checked in at 1pm, the window in the room was open and it was very could. Plus, the heating wasn't strong enough for the could nights we had in Amsterdam in december. Things I liked: though there is almost nothing to do around the hotel, there is at least a Lidl, a post office and a cash machine. The tram stop is at a 5 minutes walk. Comparing to other hotels, the internet wasn't very expensive: €10 per day. I made 2 good videos showing the hotel, including the room. Watch on my channel on youtube/diogok

If reservation numbers ( obtained via internet)are not forwarded to the reception on Saturdays than this should be mentioned. This way i expect to be charged more . I did get a refund.

Clean and dull. Close to centre by many large cities' standards, but quite far from most attractions compared to central Amsterdam hotels, especially given the local taxi rates... Hot water is next to impossible to adjust — once you ste it right, it gets colder. You add some more, then it fades again.

I stayed only one night. what I liked about the hotel : clealiness, room spaciousness and the room rate. what I didnt like: noise of the bathroom fan extractor that could not be stoped (it is centraly operated) and the water evacuation in the shower (it was not working) and had the water on the floor all over the place. The accessibility to the hotel: mainly by car. metro/train about 20 mints walk.

Very very good !!!

Pleasant and quiet place, not far from a tram stop. Nice decoration and very good breakfast. If I go back to Amsterdam, I'll stay at the HEM Hotel.

The one bad thing I can say about HEM Amsterdam is that it is far away from the city center, it's at least a 10 min tram ride. The tram runs regularly until about 12:30am, after that it's the bus (schedule unknown). Also there's a 15 euro laundry charge when you check out. Other than that the rooms are nice and so is the surrounding neighborhood.

There was a group of younger people, having loud conversations near our room, which was a little bit annoying. Bathroom could be larger and divided by a curtain, to avoid to wet it all over.

The hotel is good for its value, but located around 30 mins by tram from the city center. The local transport is overall good in Amsterdam, but at the end of the day when you are tired you dont like to travel so much. The hotel is located in a peaceful area but there is nothing much available around the hotel. The hotel staff was really very helpful and polite. The breakfast was also good but was not included in the room price. It costed 12.5 Euros per head. Overall a nice stay. Would surely like to visit again but 1st choice would be to look for a option in the city center.

Not somewhere you would choose to stay unless you had few other options in Amsterdam, it is not close to downtown, it is not right beside the RAI or Airport. The rooms and hotel are old and the bathrooms are very poor for a 3 star hotel. The breakfast is average at best. I made a mistake paying more per night than my partner who stayed at the brand new Movenpick right downtown, big mistake on my part, don´t be like me.

Quiet in the night and clean in the bathroom. Too far from the center city and too many people allways in the Hall. In the room a shit with holes ... Breakfast expensive % quality.

This hotel looks pretty old and dull from inside. The LIFT needs a serious makeover and it will take ages for one to go to the 2nd floor from ground floor. The location is good though with good access to public transportation. If you dont have vehicle and completely rely on public commute, this hotel is not advisable in cases where the main road is closed as the only option to reach city center is by walk and its a LONG LONG walk.

The hotel is good for a short staying in Amsterdam. We had some problems with the shower, but nothing impossible to manage. The hotel is well-served by public transport.

It's a great place to stay. it's about a 40 minute walk to the train station if able bodied. the tram stop is a block away and it runs conveniently thru the heart of town and to the central station until about midnight. It's a good price, good quality of room, and convenient. The rooms smell like marijuana. There's no getting that smell out.

It's NOT bad hotel. The hotel staff are kindly. But I don't like this hotel location. Because it's far from Amsterdam central area. And you need 10 minutes(or more) walk from nearest tram station. There is NO shops, NO restaurants around the hotel.
