Location was fantastic. The room and hotel was very basic, adequate but personally not worth the money. Also was unable to watch TV as it was a flat screen and the angle meant that you could not see the screen. Room was hot and would have liked sheets as an option as opposed to just a heavy duvet.

Single room was small, as usual in central city location. Location is perfect, near everything. I travelled in september, so I could close the window, which cut off the noise from the streets.

Friendly and efficient reception staff. Extremely comfortable soft matrassess with crisp, clean, white bed linnen. No reception area to speak of. 4 floors - no lift. TV remote control to be collected at reception (and didn't work anyway) I have had more for less elsewhere in the area (although admittedly my stay was mid-summer.

Good for a short stay. Location is brilliant, right in the centre of everything. Bit humid in the room though, and whilst the bathroom was clean there was a funny smell.

Fine site of hotel both for entertainments, and for sights. Despite the fact that what the hotel is in the centre of Amsterdam in it the silence and rest reign. I lived in a single room, but had a rest the company of 5 persons, thanks to a site it was very easy to meet at any time. Our windows left on roofs of the next small houses, and sounds from street at all did not disturb. Though numbers very small, but it is specificity of a city, instead of hotel. With rest it is very happy and next time most likely I will stop in the same hotel. An excellent parity of the price and quality. Opposite to hotel there is an arch if to pass through it you will get to a fine old bar with liquors, and also in a court yard fine cafe where it is very pleasant to have breakfast.

Excellent location, 50m away from Dam, lots of tram passing there as well, 5-6 min walk to central station, 200m from Red Light but out of it. Lots of restaurants on the same street. Small room a bit old but clean, some noise from the street but not too much, isolation with other rooms poor (room 12). Very basic accomodation but cheap (64EUR/single) and fair enough. Good for a short stay as a tourist.

As Amsterdam hotels go this hotel was very good.. Rooms were clean & beds very comfy with plenty of hot water & flat screen telly.. towels were changed every day & its right in the centre of town.. as for the bad reviews about the stairs they weren't that bad at all as Amsterdam stairs go.. hotels in Amsterdam are generally expensive & poor quality so relatively speaking this hotel represents good value & we would have no problem staying here in future.. Only negative is early check out time of 10.30am but on the plus side they weren't that strict on the time & there is a luggage room available..

The location was excellent! I could get to several major attractions on foot. Loads of eateries and shops in the near vicinity. Its location on a bustling street made me feel safe at night, although light sleepers might find it too noisy. My single room was pretty small, but it was clean and comfortable.

We are group of tourists which spent time in this hotel in may `08. This excellent hotel with normal price. Good location (near red light district and Dam square), good clubs like NL and others in 5 min walk. Thank you.

the quietness of the room wasn't a problem for us even if I put 5/10. The hostel is placed in the center of the city so it is normal.

Once in Amsterdam, you must be aware of the fact that you'll have less for your money than in other major European destinations. From this point of view Gesterkorreel is a nice stay for people on a budget. My room was tiny and with poor furnitures, but clean. The staff is friendly and attentive, something which is not usual in Amsterdam, where service is often of poor quality. Very steep stairs indeed, not suitable for people with bulky luggages. The hotel is located on a street full of restaurants (which don't seem to be very good)and coffee shops: a bit of noise in the rooms must be taken into account. Just round the corner you will find a nice bike rental, among the cheapest in Amsterdam.

I wasn't satisfied with this hotel without its location. Small room, noisy surroundings,...so on.

This hotel is a standard Amsterdam hotel - not bad, not good, but with the big bonus of a good quality-price-ratio. I've also been in 3* hotels there and can tell you, the rooms there are not cleaner or that spacier. This hotel is directly in the center near RLD. Lots of Restaurants and (coffee) shops around.

Great location for city centre / Dam square / red light district. Also only a short straight walk to the train station. Taxi from the airport cost 45euros for 4 of us (but agree first!) Was my first time in Amsterdam and really enjoyed it, if you like a drink move away from the main streets adn Dam square especially, it's too expensive. All round pleasent hotel, we were only really after a bed for the night which was great and though the rooms weren't huge that didn't matter to us. Superb service on the 24 hour manned reception, always friendly and willing to help.

All the restaurants around are handy but the steakhouse across the road was horrible.the room is alot smaller than it seems in the picture but at the end of the day, al you are doing is sleeping in the room. Also no life, we were on 2nd floor which meant 4 flights of stairs. Enjoyable stay though, would recommend it and stay here again especially as the location is right in the middle of Amsterdam
France, Sep 2006
As we were at the end of september, i have been very disapointed because the room was too hot (it was not possible to open the window more tant 5cm). The room was also too noisy. It was very difficule to sleep well during the night and it was also very inconfortable to stay in the room during the day. And there were not other place to stay in the hotel. One Quality : The location of the hotel.

The location of the hotel is excellent but other that that its awful. We were there in Summer and the room was like an oven. There was one piddly fan and that was it. It really was unbearably hot and ruined our stay.

The beds and pillows were the most comfortable during our 30 night stay in Europe. The reception was friendly and helpful. We had a room on the second floor that faced the street. It was quiet. The only bad thing was that the windows didn't open very much, so the room remained very warm. Unfortunately there isn't a lift, but the stairs aren't very bad.

We were in Europe for the World Cup which might account for some of the negatives of the hotel. The prices were a little high for the quality. Also, it has a great (but very noisy) central location. Also, we were on the top floor and the stairs were very, very steep (no lift). One comment about the service of the hotel: we were a bit surprised when we found out that the hotel gave our key to my brother, who was visiting Amsterdam at the same time. Under the circumstances, it worked out okay, but I'm not sure it's a hotel's place to give a key out to a friend/family member. I don't think I would stay here again, but I think it's an acceptable property.

The location of the Hotel is excellent for those who want to experience the excitement of Dam square and the Red Light district. It is not for the faint hearted - the stairs alone could see you off - we were in the attic and it was not an easy climb for persons of a certain age - 40 upwards. There is no assitance to your room, i.e., baggage etc... and after six flights of very very steep stairs an oxegen tank and mask is required. Noise at night can be a problem if you are at the front - a few beers should sort that and you will sleep like a log. Overall it was a very pleasant stay and I would go back again - only I would insist on a first floor room next time.

The location was great in the middle of everything. The price was not good at all while checking out someone who walked in was quoted a price that was 50 euro less then what we payed for the same nights, was a disappointment. The room was below average, but the location made up for a lot.

Rooms are small but OK compered to price. Our group was split in two buildings. Good location, near the Damplats and the shopping street. Traffick rigt outside the room, next time I would ask for a quiet room. Note that tax is not included in the price.

The pictures in the site are of the actual rooms, but be careful with the taxes they charge on the rates: they are higher at the counter than what you are told before departing. The location is good, within walking distance from Centraal Station and close to many interesting points. Very helpful and nice staff.

The quad room was convenient for our group and had adequate space and facilities for a short stay. The location, close to the red light district and Dam square, was excellent. It was also an easy 10 minute walk from Central Station.

Ideal hotel for a weekend stay. Located on the good steet, right next to the Dam square. Even the room was not very large, it was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was also renovated. Next time in Amsterdam, I will probably take this hotel again.

Good city centre location, although room had no view and the beds were on two levels with an extreemly steep set of steps between the two.

Photographs of rooms were misleading. We were actually placed in an annexe where the size and pictures of the rooms bore no resemblance to the pictures on the internet. However very central hotel and size of room did not spoil our stay in particlar.

the relationship between price/quality is very poor, the room are very small and the price is not so good 1 night 103 E. The price idicate in the web site is not the same you pay to the hotel. The tax are not inclusive.

the room was very small and cramped. the window opened only very slightly making air flow in the room very bad. the weather was hot and although a fan was provided this helped very little. overall the stay was hot sweaty and very uncomfortable. On a more positive note the staff were very helpful and provided excellent service.

Luckily we were able to change rooms, as the next door tv was incredibly loud. It's a tight little hotel and seemed expensive for what was quite basic accommodation. But downtown Amsterdam is quite expensive so we got what we paid for. The breakfast seemed a bit pricey, too, for what it was. But just outside there was a very good eat-in/take-out bakery that did coffee etc. The staff were really nice and friendly and helpful. So all in all it made a good base for exploring the city. And it's very central and only a short walk from the station, which made it handy. I'd use it again for the same purposes. But luxury it ain't.

We made the mistake of asking for a double room in the smoking part of the hotel rather than a twin room in the non smoking section which is much more spacious and attractive. The Hotel is ideally situated for exploring Amsterdam.
