Very basic accomodations. Booked two single rooms which were very small, poor lighting, electric fan, clean but bedding was lumpy and sunken in. Photos on the hotel's site do not show the single rooms. Friendly person at the desk.

I was drawn in to this hotel by positive reviews I saw on the web. This hotel has a very good location (the real positive point), and I received a good welcome, but my room was terrible!! It looked more like a mix of a prison cell and a kitchen (the walls were tiled like a kitchen), with extremely basic accessories (I would not give this place 2*, maximum 1/2 *). The toilet was reasonably clean, but the shower had black marks of mould. The bed was actually decent and I slept well, it was quiet during the night but the noise from the corridor and other rooms from early AM came in easily. There was a tiny TV that didn't have any sound, and a "closet" that consisted of an tube by the TV with 3 hangers. There was a small bedside table, TV table and a chair that all looked more like taken out of a cheap restaurant than bedroom furniture. The breakfast was very basic, nothing unexpected but I have stayed in 1* accommodation in Amsterdam that gave exactly the same (I didn't see why this place had a 2* rating). I was not expecting a palace for the money I paid, but I have been in other Amsterdam hotels in a similar price range that are much more decent. Would not stay there again unless it is the only option I have, that's for sure!

The hotel is very nice, located in the center of Amsterdam, in a building typical of the city's history. The service is very familiar, as if we were at home. And have a mascot that sits at the front desk, a beautiful black cat. Soon I will be returning.

fantastic location.. first time in Amsterdam and the hotel Freeland. great staff who know all there is to know about Amsterdam and the surrounding areas also a great knowledge of easier bus routes back to the airport that was really helpful as I had an early flight and the bus makes a quicker and more simple route instead of using the train and the bus stop is less than 3 min's walk. Great hotel.. everything you need is within five mins walk including the great coffee shops. Heineken experience is within a short walk and worth it. overall a fantastic trip and a great hotel. will use again.

Though the receptionist was a very friendly and helpful person and the breakfast was okay (a cooked egg, whole wheat bread, cheese and meat products, the room was a disaster. The room was at the front with a cafe across the street. The noise was overwhelming and it subsided not until 04.00. The shower smelled awfully, like a sewer that you could smell in the room even with the door closed. A friend of mine had a much bigger room that was at the back which was silent also. That room was fine. As I had seen in previous reviews the front room(s) are known for being a bad room to sleep in, I called just after making the reservation. The receptionist told me that he would give a room in the middle (not a front room). However when I arrived I still got the front room. I think that's really a bad service.

Great location, near to the city centre. My room (n. 16) was big and clean enough but the toilet, even if spacious, was not so comfortable (basin is for Lilliputian, not for human beings, too small even to wash teeth). Definitively suggested for few days travel.

Freeland hotel is a no frills hotel. The rooms are small the bathroom even smaller taps basins etc all seem to be placed incorrectly. Must say the staff are really helpful and friendly. Breakfast is no great shakes - suggestion it should be buffet style just seems they are trying to skrimp by serving individually. All in all a pleasant hotel but could improve on a few things

Nice, clean and cosy hotel at perfect location. This was just what we were looking at. Staff was so friendly that they made us feel like home. We had triple room with balcony facing busy street and restaurants and when at the hotel, we enjoyed watching the street life, especially those incredible kamikaze-bicyclers. Street is very noisy but it did'nt bothered us, we all sleep like a log. We were also satisfied with the breakfast. If we come Amsterdam again, this will be our hotel for sure.

Good location, very well connected with the airport. Small room giving into the street (you have to keep close the window in the night cause noise of the trams passing by and the pub!!)Steep stairs, no elevator, but you can ask for the rooms at the low ground. Very kindly stuff, english no problem. Payment: they have tried to ask me paying by cash instead of credit card: this has been the only false note.

ok, so location is great BUT very loud at night because your windows are facing 2 main bars that are full with people all night. The room service was poor, they forgot to clean my room one day and i had to ask 3 times to make sure they will do it next time. The reception people were friendly enough but still i would not stay here again for that price.

Thanks to the stsff, Bart and Pascal and a guest who goes there all the time, I had the best time imaginable. The reception is more like a friendly cafe with endless coffee and teas. You are made to feel special and at home. The roon was cute clean quiet and enough space for one person. It was on the ground floor which I had requested. I will go back there one day just to see the staff.I am an older lady so there were no other reasons to be nice to me. They were nice to everyone. Watch the roads I tripped on the different levels and fell badly but Pascal rescued me and took great care of me. They made an appointment for with a doctor and checked on me often providing me with first aid and ice. I had the best time at Freelands hotel Sally Australia

The only reason hotel freeland doesn't get a 10 out of 10 is because the stairs are like steep mountain faces and was permenantly puffed out/dreading having to go to/leave room!Ask for a room on the ground/1st/2nd floor (also at back of building as front of building on 24hr noisy street).....PERFECT. 2 mins to Leidseplein, shops, trams, eateries and coffee shops. will definately stay again. A very good hotel for the price. Good location and very nice people (but everyone in Amsterdam seems to be). The stairs have been commented on. I was on the top floor so I know all about them. Quite funny in one way, but not for those with weak hearts or generally clumsy. But then steep stairs are a clever way of saving space in one of the most cleverly designed cities in the world. I'd happily return to this hotel.

Only drawback was the steep stairs and no lift when taking luggage up and down. Close to trams and waterbus. On 2nd day we took waterbus to train station, did 2 walking tours (6 hours), and walked back to hotel (pedometer said 8+ miles. Taxi from ship 13 Euro, Taxi to airport 30 Euro (special hotel rate). The Hotel Freeland has an excellent location in the heart of the Leidseplein district right behind of the many, beautiful canals of Amsterdam. The hotel staff spoke fluent English and were incredibly helpful and considerate to me. My luggage was lost for three days in London, and when it finally arrived the desk clerk carried my 50lb. suitcase all by himself up three flights of very narrow stairs!! It is a very charming, but small property and they do not have a lift, and the staircases are very narrow and treacherous. They have free computer access and a Coke machine in the entry hall. I arrived on New Year's Eve from NYC, and were greeted very warmly by the same man that carried my luggage up all those stairs. My room was tiny, but always kept clean. This is a no-frills hotel that is VERY affordable by European standards and if you want a fantastic location at a cheap price with kind and friendly hotel staff, and you don't mind the steep stairs, I would most defintely recommend the Hotel Freeland in Amsterdam.

I only stayed one night, but the bed was comfortable, the breakfast was fine and the welcome was cheerful and enthusiastic. The room size was fine (and larger than many I have stayed in whilst in Europe), but it should be noted (for large size people) that the shared washroom (for rooms 1 and 2) is _very_ small. The stairs to the breakfast room in the basement are also very steep - almost ladderlike. Neither of these are complaints, just notes for anyone with reduced mobility... All that being said, I had a good stay, and would gladly return.

If you have a difficult to carry on your luggage, is better not go there, because the stairs are very difficult, but not impossible, the gay in the receptíon is very nice and can help you with it. Te, Coffe and insternet for free in reception, breakfast very good, you feel like in your house. The only tning I didn't like was the cat in reception, because is in everywhere in he reception, include the tables where you drink coffe (not in kitchen neither in the rooms).

There was extensive building demolition happening just down the block which unfortunately made the neighborhood noisy starting about 7:00AM every day - making it difficult to sleep in. Obviously this wasn't the hotel's fault and I was otherwise very happy with our stay here. The hotel is in a great location, right off Leidseplein. It's not actually "on" it as stated on maps, but about 150 m into Marnixstraat. I was kinda scared when I saw two cats inside the buildings but I guess they were the owners'. The room was very tiny but enough to open both my pieces of luggage. They give you shampoo and soap to take a shower, and the beddings smell clean and are very soft and comfy. There's free internet connection and a large breakfest served directly by the owner, who is always smiling and very helpful. Great stay, I'll be back if I need to.

This hotel sits at an awesome location. You're two blocks away from a major square that has a lot of shops and attractions, and you're also only a 10 minute walk away from both the Rijk Museum and the Van Gogh Museum. Most of the major trams also go right through the next street over. So transportion through the city is very easy. Additionally, the proprietors of the hotel are very friendly and are extremely knowledgeable about the city. They were a great help in planning my trips around the city. The only downside to the hotel is that they do have some rooms that are pretty small. So if you have a large group, it would be best to confirm that they will be able to accommodate you.

Extremely happy with Freeland Hotel. Small hotel immediately off Leidseplein, a major sqare in Amsterdam. Owners and employees were lovely. Very friendly and welcoming, but not intrusive. Every day we came back with questions about Amsterdam and the Netherlands; they were happy to answer our questions, and we had many enjoyable conversations with them. We were in Room 14, on the third floor in the back, which has a double bed. We loved our room. It was decorated in a cute funky manner (not your commercial hotel style), and had two arm chairs and a small coffee table. The room would be considered small by American standards, but not at all small by European standards. We saw glances of some of the other rooms as they were being cleaned, and they were also good sizes with large windows and nicely decorated. They had a free public internet terminal available 24 hours, which was great for making more travel arrangements, etc., and the owners/employees were very helpful with anything like that. The breakfast was good, and the coffee was the best we found in London or Amsterdam. We walked everywhere - great location. One caveat - there is no elevator, so if you have a problem with stairs, this great little hotel might not be for you. I also had some trouble understanding which way I had to turn the knob for the water in the shower, but once I figured it out, shower was great, with lots of hot water. Thank you Rick, Pasqual and Barbara for a great stay.

Lo consiglio per la posizione centrale e la pulizia delle camere. Il rapporto qualità prezzo è ottimo.

The Owners just got the property few months ago, so now they are doing some renovations, the location is excelent and the owners are very nice and very friendly people. In general good, in few months will be better, the rooms very clean, and that is very important.
