The Hotel is clean and save and provides spacious rooms. The location of the hotel is good and allows you to explore amsterdam by foot. staff and management are very friendly. the prices for hotels and the value for money compared to other cities in europe seems to be bad en generell. the freeland hotel can be recommended for a weekend stay in the town.

Good location, very well connected with the airport. Small room giving into the street (you have to keep close the window in the night cause noise of the trams passing by and the pub!!)Steep stairs, no elevator, but you can ask for the rooms at the low ground. Very kindly stuff, english no problem. Payment: they have tried to ask me paying by cash instead of credit card: this has been the only false note.

Ok, so location is great BUT very loud at night because your windows are facing 2 main bars that are full with people all night. The room service was poor, they forgot to clean my room one day and i had to ask 3 times to make sure they will do it next time. The reception people were friendly enough but still i would not stay here again for that price.

Wonderful staff, great room, fantastic location, but we struggled to sleep due to noise from the bars opposite our room. We would definitely return but would request a room that does not face the street next time.

Thanks to the stsff, Bart and Pascal and a guest who goes there all the time, I had the best time imaginable. The reception is more like a friendly cafe with endless coffee and teas. You are made to feel special and at home. The roon was cute clean quiet and enough space for one person. It was on the ground floor which I had requested. I will go back there one day just to see the staff.I am an older lady so there were no other reasons to be nice to me. They were nice to everyone. Watch the roads I tripped on the different levels and fell badly but Pascal rescued me and took great care of me. They made an appointment for with a doctor and checked on me often providing me with first aid and ice. I had the best time at Freelands hotel Sally Australia

The only reason hotel freeland doesn't get a 10 out of 10 is because the stairs are like steep mountain faces and was permenantly puffed out/dreading having to go to/leave room!Ask for a room on the ground/1st/2nd floor (also at back of building as front of building on 24hr noisy street).....PERFECT. 2 mins to Leidseplein, shops, trams, eateries and coffee shops. will definately stay again. QUALITY (once you get over the musty smell in reception!)

Very friendly and informal management a pleasure. Trams somewhat noisy if you get a room looking onto the street, as we did. Stairs (so often mentioned) a problem only if you are old or bring very young children, otherwise just be a little careful. Excellent location near main museums and restaurants.

Very nice comfortable cosy little place!!! Everything was really good for me despite the thin walls where you can hear some noises from next door, but other than that, all was good. The breakfast was nice too! People working were great and very friendly!

A very good hotel for the price. Good location and very nice people (but everyone in Amsterdam seems to be). The stairs have been commented on. I was on the top floor so I know all about them. Quite funny in one way, but not for those with weak hearts or generally clumsy. But then steep stairs are a clever way of saving space in one of the most cleverly designed cities in the world. I'd happily return to this hotel.

Stayed two nights post transatlantic cruise. Hotel and rooms were clean and quiet. Staff was extremely friendly and very helpful in answering questions. Complimentary breakfast was very good. Only drawback was the steep stairs and no lift when taking luggage up and down. Close to trams and waterbus. On 2nd day we took waterbus to train station, did 2 walking tours (6 hours), and walked back to hotel (pedometer said 8+ miles. Taxi from ship 13 Euro, Taxi to airport 30 Euro (special hotel rate). There were 3 of us with lots of luggage. A super value! Would definitely return!

The Hotel Freeland has an excellent location in the heart of the Leidseplein district right behind of the many, beautiful canals of Amsterdam. The hotel staff spoke fluent English and were incredibly helpful and considerate to me. My luggage was lost for three days in London, and when it finally arrived the desk clerk carried my 50lb. suitcase all by himself up three flights of very narrow stairs!! It is a very charming, but small property and they do not have a lift, and the staircases are very narrow and treacherous. They have free computer access and a Coke machine in the entry hall. I arrived on New Year's Eve from NYC, and were greeted very warmly by the same man that carried my luggage up all those stairs. My room was tiny, but always kept clean. This is a no-frills hotel that is VERY affordable by European standards and if you want a fantastic location at a cheap price with kind and friendly hotel staff, and you don't mind the steep stairs, I would most defintely recommend the Hotel Freeland in Amsterdam.

Great hotel in a great location (near to everything, 15 minutes walking from Dam square and museums). One thing, however, have to be said: there's a small ladder with high steps to reach the rooms and could be quite difficult reach them if you have heavy luggage or have some kind of problems to climb it

I only stayed one night, but the bed was comfortable, the breakfast was fine and the welcome was cheerful and enthusiastic. The room size was fine (and larger than many I have stayed in whilst in Europe), but it should be noted (for large size people) that the shared washroom (for rooms 1 and 2) is _very_ small. The stairs to the breakfast room in the basement are also very steep - almost ladderlike. Neither of these are complaints, just notes for anyone with reduced mobility... All that being said, I had a good stay, and would gladly return.

Wonderfull location, the staff was very nice, always ready to help you. If you have a difficult to carry on your luggage, is better not go there, because the stairs are very difficult, but not impossible, the gay in the receptíon is very nice and can help you with it. Te, Coffe and insternet for free in reception, breakfast very good, you feel like in your house. The only tning I didn't like was the cat in reception, because is in everywhere in he reception, include the tables where you drink coffe (not in kitchen neither in the rooms).

There was extensive building demolition happening just down the block which unfortunately made the neighborhood noisy starting about 7:00AM every day - making it difficult to sleep in. Obviously this wasn't the hotel's fault and I was otherwise very happy with our stay here. The location was great - a few minutes easy stroll from the Leidseplein, where you can catch a tram to almost anywhere in the city. The staff were great.

The hotel is in a great location, right off Leidseplein. It's not actually "on" it as stated on maps, but about 150 m into Marnixstraat. I was kinda scared when I saw two cats inside the buildings but I guess they were the owners'. The room was very tiny but enough to open both my pieces of luggage. They give you shampoo and soap to take a shower, and the beddings smell clean and are very soft and comfy. There's free internet connection and a large breakfest served directly by the owner, who is always smiling and very helpful. Great stay, I'll be back if I need to.

Very nice atmosphere in this small but extremely friendly hotel. Excellent location 1 block from the bustle of Leidseplein, yet quieter street. Hotel staff honoured my reservation request for extra-quieter room at rear of the building. All staff went out of their way to be warm & welcoming & helpful. Would definitely stay there again & recommend it.

The reviews on this site were excellent. The place was perfectly situated and the employees went above and beyond to help a customer. I would definitely stay again. For the price, you get what you need and wonderful service. Since it is located in Amsterdam's Central Canal Ring access to anywhere is fast and easy.

We had a unique experience of changing our day at the last minute. these guys were great in accommodating, BUT, the room for the first night had barely enough room for the bed, and that includes the shower (not really, but you get the picture). so, had to opt for another hotel which we found across the street. they were spendier, but FANTASTIC, except their breakfast sucked.

This hotel sits at an awesome location. You're two blocks away from a major square that has a lot of shops and attractions, and you're also only a 10 minute walk away from both the Rijk Museum and the Van Gogh Museum. Most of the major trams also go right through the next street over. So transportion through the city is very easy. Additionally, the proprietors of the hotel are very friendly and are extremely knowledgeable about the city. They were a great help in planning my trips around the city. The only downside to the hotel is that they do have some rooms that are pretty small. So if you have a large group, it would be best to confirm that they will be able to accommodate you.

Extremely happy with Freeland Hotel. Small hotel immediately off Leidseplein, a major sqare in Amsterdam. Owners and employees were lovely. Very friendly and welcoming, but not intrusive. Every day we came back with questions about Amsterdam and the Netherlands; they were happy to answer our questions, and we had many enjoyable conversations with them. We were in Room 14, on the third floor in the back, which has a double bed. We loved our room. It was decorated in a cute funky manner (not your commercial hotel style), and had two arm chairs and a small coffee table. The room would be considered small by American standards, but not at all small by European standards. We saw glances of some of the other rooms as they were being cleaned, and they were also good sizes with large windows and nicely decorated. They had a free public internet terminal available 24 hours, which was great for making more travel arrangements, etc., and the owners/employees were very helpful with anything like that. The breakfast was good, and the coffee was the best we found in London or Amsterdam. We walked everywhere - great location. One caveat - there is no elevator, so if you have a problem with stairs, this great little hotel might not be for you. I also had some trouble understanding which way I had to turn the knob for the water in the shower, but once I figured it out, shower was great, with lots of hot water. Thank you Rick, Pasqual and Barbara for a great stay.

Interesting hotel, very very steep and narrow stairs so we don't recommend to older people or young children. But for couples or singles a fine place. Rooms were nice and clean and also had a DVD-player! There were some malfunction with the shower, boiling hot and freezin' cold. But overall recommenable, though quite expensive. But amsterdam is..

You cannot live better in Amsterdam for this price. Rooms are very clean. City centre area, everything near the accomodation. Easy to find, from railway station about 20 minutes walk. Our room was to the back so it was very quiet, do not know if there are any to the front side. Very steep stairs, but there are also rooms downstairs so maybe ask for one of these if you are handicaped. Owners were very welcoming, friendly!! Highly recommended! Will stay there again, probably next year at the latest.
