The hotel is clean and is in good location (close to the train station). As somebody has already mentioned, it's really hard to locate though unless you have a printed map in front of you. I've asked a stopped taxi driver and even he not been able to tell me where the hotel is based on a street name. Overall experience is very positive, will likely stay there again.

We arent`t recommending this hotel. When you take a room for three people you receive room without windows. Is it good for rats. When you want a small windows you have to pay for about 40eur/night more. When We will go again in Amsterdam We reserved accommodation in another hotel. This accomodation is`t good ratio between price and quaility. accommodation.

Nice little hotel. Beautifully located, a short walk from Central Station and from main streets. You have breakfast next door in an Irish Pub, and can sit outside with the Canal, watching the boats passing by. Here you can have one of Amsterdams best Irish Coffee. Live music during the week-ends.

For us, the unique negative detail was that there were no windows in the room, but we did not spend long time on it. The decoration is modern and functional, and the hotel gives sensation of new and clean .

We arrived at the Hotel France and was pleasantly surprised at the central position and the warm welcome from the reception guy. However, it went downhill from there on! Our room was no 802 and was literally in reception, there were no windows and the aircon did not work properly, it was like being in a box. We asked to be moved but the hotel was full! Then at 12am the noise started of people coming in and out of the hotel. Then at 4am the guy on reception put his tv on as loud as possible and we had to ask him to turn it down!!! The breakfast was served in the pub next door which was very dark and gloomy for breakfast. Food was okay though. The room was clean and the first reception guy was helpful. Position was great, central to everything. Probably best to specify room with window and preferably not in reception!

When visiting the hotel, we were waiting for something else than the cellar room with bathroom which didn't even have a door!! Anyone who visits the hotel, should insist a room upstairs, we were disappointed. Otherwise, the location is great

The hotel didn't offer a 3star-quality: Filthy rooms, questionable spreadsheets, unfriendly and uncosy breakfast at next-door-pub, very questionable quality of breakfast buffet. Very pricy hotel.

The hotel is very near to the central station, so for this location it was pretty cheap. The room was commodous. It just was a little strange for me that there were no windows. But for one or two nights it ist perfekt for a couple or a single ith preferation of central location.

Nice welcome, you pay when you are registered on place, everything is ok when you come whith your booking sheet printed. No noise, clean enough, good looking and certainly the best various breakfast nextdoor we've ever had ! (at the Irish pub Molly Malone). I would recommend the "Tibet restaurant" : not far from the hotel (Langeniezel straat) excellent food, good quality & price.

As per my email to Venere few days ago, when we checked in, the room had not been cleaned (dirty cups on the table, beds unmade) + the room was in the basement with NO window. When asking to get another room, we got the one next door, exactly the same, no window but clean... we were told that we couldn't get a room with a window due to the price we paid (85 euros a night) - that was never mentioned on the website, that at that price, you wouldn't get a window. No upgrade possible either as Easter and no other room available... really disappointing. Other than that, location is absolutely great...

The hotel (France hotel in Amsterdam)cancelled the reservation (they said : false card number), I was not informed of that. They gave us a little room on first floor, behod the builing, without windows. I paid the same price (85 €), but it became expansive too for that room in a *** hotel.

Never, ever book this hotel. we made the mistake of booking this place only to be told, after a long journey, that they had decided to give our rooms away. we arrived on time and were greeted with a "its happened, you will just have to deal with it comment from the obnoxious receptionist". We were eventually transfered to a hotel miles from the centre and advised by the taxi driver who took us to the new hotel that Hotel france do this constantly. So if you want a nice trouble free time in amsterdam avoid the Hotel France.

Okay hotel. Clerk at desk was MIA for 45 minutes during checkout time and charged €25 more than the agreed price with the manager after we added another person, and all they did was add a rollaway to a twin room. Location is the best thing about this hotel. Breakfast at the Irish pub next door was interesting--my friends and I have never seen tuna salad as a breakfast item before.

Excellent location and surprisingly quiet environment. However only go if you dont want any sleep at all!The room was cold, the radiator only half heated up and made noise throughout the night. The shower was cold.Room only superficially clean. Doors were slamming and you could hear clearly loud talk and laughing all night. Breakfast cold(hot option!)

Great destination, close to the train station and all means of public transport (and to red light district!). Window looked to the waterpipes - very irritating noise. Dark room, dark furniture, very small bedside lamps. Breakfast in the next pub, also dark place but food was ok. Bathroom could be cleaner. You have to pay the bill in advance. I wouldn't stay there again, I would look for a better quality in this price category.

7 min from the Central station. Major museum (walking) -45min. Dam - <10min. Very friendly people, very helpful. Clean room and bath. Quiet. Wireless works well in room at any time. Room is OK for me but small for a big person. Bathroom size is typical for any small hotel in Europe. Regulated heater. Lift is working. good breakfast. Good place. I'd recommend it to everyone.

Hotel France was a great find for us, when we go back we will definately be returning to the Hotel. Location was perfect and the surrounding area although being very central was very quiet. Only problem that we encountered was that the bedside lamps, inside, were very dusty which gave out a strange smell. All round though it made for a great 4 days!!!

My single room was very small and very plain -- not even a picture on the wall, and no room for a chair to sit in for reading. However, the location was very convenient, the room was clean and well kept, breakfast was good standard European, and the price was better than I was able to find elsewhere in Amsterdam for the dates of my travel. All together, it worked out fine, although I must admit that I was startled when I first saw how small and plain the room was. From photos, it appears that the double rooms are better size and better furnished.

I was lucky because I had a room with a great view, but most of my friends got a room without windows... It´s a little bit noisy, mayb because of its excellent location. Only one problem: someone got inside the room (locked room, by the way)of one of my colleagues and stole any valuable thing he/she found (portable DVD, digital camera, clothes, shoes, etc). Some staff were not as helpful as one could expect, specially the receptionist at the moment of the theft. The rest of the staff were excellent. Best: the location.

I was so dissapionted with my room :( it was cramped, dirty carpets, single size blanket on double bed. There where no tea and coffee facillities at all and you said there was. Every morning there were workmen drilling outside my room! The bathroom smelled and the staff were always knocking on the door and disturbing us for various reasons. I went home 2 day early as it upset me to stay in that hotel so much. Please note i asked for a view of the canal and all i got was a noisy vent and a big building outside my room! I was REALLY UPSET! It was also our anniversary :( Regards Katy

We were put in a room with no window. I could smell bad athletes foot fungus in the hallway carpets. Was wondering if the room was even up to code since we were directly under the stairwell. We heard drunks coming in at all hours of the night. Hardly slept at all and wondered if I'd contracted a respiratory illness from such poor ventilation. Very poor standards for the price.
