This is a truly wonderful boutique style hotel about 15 minutes walk from the central and perhaps only 5 minutes from Dam Square so right in the middle of evrything and yet overlooking a beautifully idyllic canal. There was a bit of noise at night from revellers and the odd speeding car but for a city centre this has to be expected. The room size was good form Europe and a luxourious bathroom too with double handwash basin. Staff were in the main helpful and obliging and very courteous. Breakfast was my only niggle at €16 each. We did not have any as a coffee and roll suffices us but otherwise a very good experience.

When we arrived at the hotel, it was around 8 pm and we were quickly checked in. As for myself, I knew what the hotel should look like through the internet, but my companions were pleasantly surprised and overwhelmed by the atmosphere, the fish tank, the freshly cut flowers, the chandeliers throughout the ground floor, the complimentary coffee, tea, hot chocolate, cookies, peanuts, candy, and refreshing cold drinks (mint & lemon water, also another type of flavoured water). The room in which I stayed had a double sink and the bathroom was quite large. The location of the hotel was convenient to the 9 Street shopping area. The only drawback was the paper thin walls and ceiling. At night we could hear the people above us walking around, and also when people passed by our door. We only stayed for 3 nights, 2 days, but wished we could have stayed longer. Otherwise, our stay at Estherea Hotel was excellent. We would definitely stay there again.

Excellent location - close to several metro lines. Easy walking to old part of town. Very friendly hotel staff. Large accomodations. Overall, excellent. The only issue we encountered was significant street noise in the evenings - our room was on the back side of the hotel. An interior room or one on the canal side would likely be quieter.

Very good hotel. Nearby all the most important attractions in Amsterdam. Five minutes walk from Dam Square. The facilities were appropriate for a four stars hotel. The cost is adequate, the rooms are clean, confortable and very well mantained. Staff was very kind and ready to satisfy your needs.

Pleasant location with good view if you get a room o/looking canal. Overall impression more mass market than I had gathered (but it might just have been my fault in forming a false impression) – felt to me rather like an upmarket Best Western. I like Best Westerns, but it's just now what I was expecting.

It was our 3rd stay at Hotel Estherea and it was another nice experience during that New Year's eve time, which made the rates increase but the quality of services was great. Definitely a good address in Amsterdam, fine location, nice and cosy rooms with appropriate decoration and cleanliness of every place in the hotel. a good mention for the complimentary tea and coffee with sweets and biscuits and even beignets on the 31st and 1st of january very appreciated in winter !

My wife and I loved this hotel and have recommended it to our friends. It has a very welcoming, old world feel , and is impeccably maintained. Yes, the room was a little small by modern American standards, but we knew that it would be - it's in the center of a centuries old city. But the bathroom, with its jacuzzi tub and separate shower, is spacious and first class. We do have some niggling observations: The room was beautiful, but it lacked places to PUT things. A few clothes hooks, behind the door, in the bathroom, would really help. We had to take the ironing board out of the closet to hang up our clothes, and this somewhat spoils the ambiance of the room. (The slippers were wonderful, though!) Overall, we were very happy here. The staff do an excellent job of making you feel at home.

We stayed at the Estherea for three nights and had a wonderful room overlooking the canal. Yes, there was some room from the room above (timber floor so understandable) but the hotel staff dealt with this very promptly and discreetly, so it disappeared as an issue. The hotel is not corporate, it is very typically Dutch and I found the staff to be extremely helpful at all times. Our room was recently decorated but still had a comfortable and homely feel. The Estherea is in a great location in Amsterdam and I would not hesitate to recommend it.

Very comfortable hotel in an ideal location. Dam square , Damrak , Leidsestraat and Leidseplein all within walking distance. The excellent Spuistraat is located at the back of the hotel , with more than enough bars & restaurants. We stayed in a Deluxe Double room which was good enough. The price of 16 euros for breakfast is way over the top. The bar was adequate and supplemented by very helpful bar staff - esoecially Steef.

Stay could have been rated 10/10 if there was not an issue with sound insulation of the rooms. We were woken up at 3 am the first night by the guests of the room above us and the second night at 6 am by some children crying and playing very loudly in the room beneath! Fortunaltey the recpetion offciers were very helpful and efficient in having the noise stopped quickly.

This is a warm, welcoming, well-located and wonderful little hotel. Our room was spacious enough, overlooking Singel canal. It was comfortable, clean, and quiet. The hotel's public spaces are extremely homey and inviting. We actually enjoyed them and used them, which we never do. There's a well-stocked library and a wonderful coffee/tea/hot chocolate machine and great Dutch cookies and candies available 24/7. The breakfast is fine and the staff is very helpful. I was very pleased with this hotel in nearly all aspects. The breakfast was great, and the coffee/tea/cocoa service and cookies in the lobby area was a classy touch. The only negative was the cost of internet access on the business PC, which was 5 euros per half-hour of use. A nice upgrade would be to have a few modern PCs in the library/study area, free to hotel guests.

We really loved the location of this hotel, close enough to the main areas of interest but on a quiet canal. We were offered the choice of a canal view in a small room or a large room without the view. We opted for the view and even though the room was small it was very comfortable and well equipped. Highly recommended

This was our first time in Amsterdam and first time in the hotel Estherea.. it was perfect. The hotel is just walking distance from the Centraal Station, Daam Square, red light district, the best coffee shop (amnesia), the best chocolate shop (puccini's) and the center of town for gift shops, restaurants ect. The hotel staff couldn't of been nicer; there was unfortunate roadworks outside our room so they immediately told us we could change rooms and offered us a free breakfast in their restaurant. On arrival, they took us to our rooms and gave us a talk about where everything was. The hotel itself was beautiful, with massive chandeliers and tropical fish, beautiful & tasty cakes and sweets that guests can help themselves to along with coffee, tea, and a selection of tea's on the house. The hotel has a strickt no cannabis smoking policy, to benefit the non-smoking guests. I would recomend this hotel to anyone who wants to be in the center of everything, and doesn't mind paying that little bit extra for an amazing stay.

Don´t book standard room!! The Esterea is wonderful. But the tiny standard room and the unacceptably tiny narrow bed (99€ Venere reservation) is only for fresh lovers who dont need an inch of space between them and turn in unison . Fortunately a bigger room for €154 was available. Our stay was perfect.

Location is excellent, easy walking distance to Amsterdam points of interest, our room overlooked the Singel Canal. We loved the hotel, the staff were pleasant and competent, nice to have complimentary coffee/tea/hot chocolate,gateau/petit fours. Our only negative comment was the overall size and very limited closet space in Room 307, possibly some of the other rooms are more spacious.

I suppose I was expecting a much grander room based on the enthusiastic commentaries I had read at various sites. My room was barely large enough to hold the bed and a small desk. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the bath adequate (the cold water did not seem to work, making the shower too hot to use). Staff was very kind, and breakfast decent, though not included and expensive. Unless all the other hotels in Amsterdam are dumps, it is hard for me to understand the glowing reputation that this hotel has.

This is good hotel in nice location but unfortunately we drew a short straw with our room - a very small 'triple' with an outlook over what can be best described as a utility shaft. It was also noisy - creaky floor boards as our neighbours tramped about above us. To be fair - we didn't complain about the room - we were only there for a night, but considering the price (300 euro - w/o breakfast) very disappointing. However, I'd still cautiously recommend - just be careful about your room allocation.

For our first night we got a room facing the opposite wall in arm reach and a building site, so no light and the next morning unbearable loud. Change of rooms was no problem and the next one was good, but the friendly staff, knowing about the this, should have told us in advance. So, check the room before you check in. My rating would have been much better for the second night alone.

Stayed in Amsterdam for 4 nights. We booked a deluxe room (with a canal view) and were given a standard room on the street side by mistake. We could only get a room on the canal side the day after. The first room was very noisy (street and we could hear people walking in the room above). The other room was quiet but quite small and rather cold. Breakfast was excellent and not too expensive. Minibar was empty in both rooms and it seems to be normal...

Hotel Estherea is really an outstanding boutique hotel. It is charming and elegant. The rooms are comfortable and nicely decorated, and the bathrooms were clean and well equipped. We travelled with children ages 9 through 13, and they loved the 24 hour hot chocolate! We looked forward to coming home at the end of a long day sight-seeing to rest in the lounge with coffee and hot cocoa. Quite delightful-- we will definitely return, and have already recommended this hotel to friends and family.

Very quaint hotel. Our room was a triple but it was tiny and overfurnished, still it was clean and comfortable. I was dissapointed not to get a canal view but I guess it's dependant on availability. The Hotel EStherea is beautiful and cosy. Their slogan is Home from Home. Well if my home was like this I would never leave it. The rooms are a bit on the small side but not inconveniently small. As all the other reviews the tea and coffee station is very welcome and it is very nice to be able to make a drink there and sit back in the lounge area and relax at any time of the day. They leave you cookies and cake and jars of sweets dotted around the place. A very nice thought which we appreciated. Loved the bedroom and got a canal view as requested. Very colourful and cosy decorated. We got some dvd's in a store near us and wanted to watch them and reception will send you up a dvd player or video player and set it up. I dont think there was a fee for this. Breakfast is nice if you are able to eat early in the morning then it is worth the 14 euro. The hotel is about 5 minutes from Dam square and the history museum. And the American book store is around the corner (left)behind the hotel, you could spend a day here. What a store. All english books. Do book your Anne Frank House tickets online for 8 euro as you will be glad to excape the crowds. Also we found it helpful when we bought a cd film about the life of Ann Frank in a store near Dam Square, and watched it before we visited and It made the visit much better as it is crowded enough th read the signs so you know the house story from the film and can visualise it better. There are some nice restaurants near the hotel too so its location is excellent. In summary I would highly reccommend the Estherea for its comfort and location it is a gem. I would definetely stay here again. Note that you must leave your key in to reception anytime you leave your hotel even for a short walk as they are strict about this. But it is good security.
