We really enjoyed our stay. On the plus side the hotel is very well situated overlooking a canal in the heart of the city. The room was well-appointed, clean and quiet. We missed tea and coffee in our room but this was made up for by a 24/7 self-service, take-away refreshment bar on the ground floor that included cake as well as a range of drinks. However, the hotel is expensive. This was a special occasion but I still think that over £300 per night (excluding breakfast) is a lot of money for a standard room. We've done a lot better elsewhere so I have to give this an average, at best, value for money.

Good central position on the side of a main canal and near tram stops, restaurants and shops in the Spui district. Very friendly and helpful staff. Bathroom well equipped with goodies and water piping hot. Spotlessly clean throughout. Restaurant has good atmosphere and breakfast was excellent. Free coffee, tea & cookies available 24 hours on the ground floor. Not much drawer storage in the room for a long stay but for three days it was just sufficient.

The staff were really friendly and welcoming. I had told them that my boyfriend was celebrating his birthday and they made a lot of effort to make it a special stay, wishing him happy birthday and leaving chocolates and a card in the room for him. The facilities were great- the coffee and cakes/sweets is a lovely touch. Our suite was fantastic- really large and plush. I would recommend the hotel for a special stay.

Overall a good hotel, but with a couple of downsides. .The room and ensuite were of a very good standard.Free coffee and cake as and when you want it was very welcome.Public areas were very pleasant and roomy. However we were at the back of the hotel which was pretty noisy up to 2.30 am every night (there are bars nearby) which not everybody would tolerate.Staff generally helpful, but let themselves down the last morning by missing our 6.15am call totally despite us reminding them the night before, and then tried to make excuses instead of apologising.

My wife and I were in the top attic type room with the gable beam. The angled ceilings were a bit tricky for me as I hit my head hard three times before learning my lesson. My wife loved the cosy feel though. The hotel staff was always very friendly and helpful. They have a key dropoff/pickup system for when you come and go which we didn't love. It means you have to wait around to get back in your room sometimes if there's a lineup. There also was no DND sign to put on the door. So when my wife was not feeling well and in bed, the cleaning lady came all the way in to the room before figuring it out. Lovely hotel though.

Booked this hotel on a whim and we were SO pleased! My husband and I are newlyweds and were celebrating our anniversary. The hotel is BEAUTIFUL and the photos don't do it justice. Hotel is in great walking distance to Dam Square, restaurants, coffee shops and Waterloo market. We will definitely stay here again--everything was perfect. Room service was cheap, delicious and fast!

I don't know how we could have made a better choice than Hotel Estherea. We were happily surprised to have our room upgraded when we arrived and it was absolutely charming, with a very spacious bathroom and lovely living/sleeping area. The room was not on the canal side, so the view was less than ideal, but we weren't there to spend time looking out windows. The location was ideal- right on Singal canal and steps away from Dam Square, and it was very quiet at night. The breakfast room was also charming and the breakfast very good, if a bit pricey. We would definitely return ourselves and will recommend it to our friends.

This was my first time to Amsterdam and this hotel was a joy. The staff was warm and friendly. The old world charm and elegance was displayed from the lobby to the rooms; even in the public toilet. I liked how the windows opened for fresh air. The floors creamed but it is an old building. The buffet breakfast was excellent with a wide variety. The hotel is in walking distance to several sites (Dam Square, Amsterdam Museum, Anne Frank House), several eating places, shopping 4 blocks, Tram stop 3 blocks and canal bus stop close. I plan to stay here during my next visit to Amsterdam.

Absolutely terrific-- far better than we could have imagined. It's a small boutique hotel that is still run like some decadent delight out of the 1920s. One of my favorite hotels in Europe. It actually felt more like a five star hotel.

We really enjoyed this hotel. The rooms may be small but the lounge area is so warm and welcoming that its doesnt really matter as you can sit comfortably in one of the several different lounging areas in the lobby. The beds are also small so you might want to stay in a larger room if you do not like so share a small bed. The staff is friendly and the location is perfect. This is a truly wonderful boutique style hotel about 15 minutes walk from the central and perhaps only 5 minutes from Dam Square so right in the middle of evrything and yet overlooking a beautifully idyllic canal. There was a bit of noise at night from revellers and the odd speeding car but for a city centre this has to be expected. The room size was good form Europe and a luxourious bathroom too with double handwash basin. Staff were in the main helpful and obliging and very courteous. Breakfast was my only niggle at €16 each. We did not have any as a coffee and roll suffices us but otherwise a very good experience.

When we arrived at the hotel, it was around 8 pm and we were quickly checked in. As for myself, I knew what the hotel should look like through the internet, but my companions were pleasantly surprised and overwhelmed by the atmosphere, the fish tank, the freshly cut flowers, the chandeliers throughout the ground floor, the complimentary coffee, tea, hot chocolate, cookies, peanuts, candy, and refreshing cold drinks (mint & lemon water, also another type of flavoured water). The room in which I stayed had a double sink and the bathroom was quite large. The location of the hotel was convenient to the 9 Street shopping area. The only drawback was the paper thin walls and ceiling. At night we could hear the people above us walking around, and also when people passed by our door. We only stayed for 3 nights, 2 days, but wished we could have stayed longer. Otherwise, our stay at Estherea Hotel was excellent. We would definitely stay there again.

Excellent location - close to several metro lines. Easy walking to old part of town. Very friendly hotel staff. Large accomodations. Overall, excellent. My wife and I loved this hotel and have recommended it to our friends. It has a very welcoming, old world feel , and is impeccably maintained. Yes, the room was a little small by modern American standards, but we knew that it would be - it's in the center of a centuries old city. But the bathroom, with its jacuzzi tub and separate shower, is spacious and first class. We do have some niggling observations: The room was beautiful, but it lacked places to PUT things. A few clothes hooks, behind the door, in the bathroom, would really help. We had to take the ironing board out of the closet to hang up our clothes, and this somewhat spoils the ambiance of the room. (The slippers were wonderful, though!) Overall, we were very happy here. The staff do an excellent job of making you feel at home.

We stayed at the Estherea for three nights and had a wonderful room overlooking the canal. Yes, there was some room from the room above (timber floor so understandable) but the hotel staff dealt with this very promptly and discreetly, so it disappeared as an issue. The hotel is not corporate, it is very typically Dutch and I found the staff to be extremely helpful at all times. Our room was recently decorated but still had a comfortable and homely feel. The Estherea is in a great location in Amsterdam and I would not hesitate to recommend it.

This was our first time in Amsterdam and first time in the hotel Estherea.. it was perfect. The hotel is just walking distance from the Centraal Station, Daam Square, red light district, the best coffee shop (amnesia), the best chocolate shop (puccini's) and the center of town for gift shops, restaurants ect. The hotel staff couldn't of been nicer; there was unfortunate roadworks outside our room so they immediately told us we could change rooms and offered us a free breakfast in their restaurant. On arrival, they took us to our rooms and gave us a talk about where everything was. The hotel itself was beautiful, with massive chandeliers and tropical fish, beautiful & tasty cakes and sweets that guests can help themselves to along with coffee, tea, and a selection of tea's on the house. The hotel has a strickt no cannabis smoking policy, to benefit the non-smoking guests. I would recomend this hotel to anyone who wants to be in the center of everything, and doesn't mind paying that little bit extra for an amazing stay.

We stayed at the hotel for 5 nights and had an excellent stay. The hotel is within walking distance to most of the activities in Amsterdam.A very nice hotel with friendly staff, One could see that that they had pride in their work.We also got a spacious room with canal view. Our room where very well cleaned every day.The Estherèa will for sure be our first choise when we go back to Amsterdam.

Don´t book standard room!! The Esterea is wonderful. But the tiny standard room and the unacceptably tiny narrow bed (99€ Venere reservation) is only for fresh lovers who dont need an inch of space between them and turn in unison . Fortunately a bigger room for €154 was available. Our stay was perfect.

location is excellent, easy walking distance to Amsterdam points of interest, our room overlooked the Singel Canal. We loved the hotel, the staff were pleasant and competent, nice to have complimentary coffee/tea/hot chocolate,gateau/petit fours. Our only negative comment was the overall size and very limited closet space in Room 307, possibly some of the other rooms are more spacious.

I suppose I was expecting a much grander room based on the enthusiastic commentaries I had read at various sites. My room was barely large enough to hold the bed and a small desk. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and the bath adequate (the cold water did not seem to work, making the shower too hot to use). Staff was very kind, and breakfast decent, though not included and expensive. Unless all the other hotels in Amsterdam are dumps, it is hard for me to understand the glowing reputation that this hotel has.

The Hotel Estherea is everything it claims to be - excellent location, spotlessly clean and very well maintained throughout. Our bedroom was quite compact, but very quiet and tastefully decorated. The complimentary hot drinks and pastries in reception were a real treat too!

Great location, lovely hotel. Beautifully furnished, comfortable and very clean. Bit pricey but worth paying for due to the above. Would definitely go back

This is good hotel in nice location but unfortunately we drew a short straw with our room - a very small 'triple' with an outlook over what can be best described as a utility shaft. It was also noisy - creaky floor boards as our neighbours tramped about above us. To be fair - we didn't complain about the room - we were only there for a night, but considering the price (300 euro - w/o breakfast) very disappointing. However, I'd still cautiously recommend - just be careful about your room allocation.

We had a perfectly lovely stay at the hotel, which is charming. The staff went out of their way to be helpful. The central location is perfect. I would highly recommend the hotel.

For our first night we got a room facing the opposite wall in arm reach and a building site, so no light and the next morning unbearable loud. Change of rooms was no problem and the next one was good, but the friendly staff, knowing about the this, should have told us in advance. So, check the room before you check in. My rating would have been much better for the second night alone.

Hotel staff were excellent. Hotel accommodated my request for a canal view room. Rooms are small (normal) but very well done. Photos on website do not do justice to the hotel; the property is much nicer than shown. The guest lounge with hot beverages and cakes is a very nice touch. The Hotel has nice scooters available for rent.

bon hôtel, mais attention, bien choisir sa chambre pour ne pas avoir de bruit nocturne : prendre côté canal Single (par exemple chambre 514 : super). Le petit déjeuner est excellent : grand choix. Le personnel est trés sympathique.

Stayed in Amsterdam for 4 nights. We booked a deluxe room (with a canal view) and were given a standard room on the street side by mistake. We could only get a room on the canal side the day after. The first room was very noisy (street and we could hear people walking in the room above). The other room was quiet but quite small and rather cold. Breakfast was excellent and not too expensive. Minibar was empty in both rooms and it seems to be normal...

Hotel Estherea is really an outstanding boutique hotel. It is charming and elegant. The rooms are comfortable and nicely decorated, and the bathrooms were clean and well equipped. We travelled with children ages 9 through 13, and they loved the 24 hour hot chocolate! We looked forward to coming home at the end of a long day sight-seeing to rest in the lounge with coffee and hot cocoa. Quite delightful-- we will definitely return, and have already recommended this hotel to friends and family.

Very quaint hotel. Our room was a triple but it was tiny and overfurnished, still it was clean and comfortable. I was dissapointed not to get a canal view but I guess it's dependant on availability. A really nice touch was the free refreshments in the lobby, I recommendend the hot chocolate and the cakes were fabulous. So overall I would recommend the Estherea.
