Improve wifi enviroment

Hotel staff was very helpful and kind. It wasn't possible to open the whole window,you can just open it about for 15-20 cm by a piece of wood.our room was no so small , but the other was very very small, breakfast was quite poor, Finally, I think price is too much for this kind of property...

My wife and I were in this hotel for our honeymoon. They treated us very well offering a superior room at the same price. The owner is very friendly and helpful.

Our only disappointment from this hotel is that we have booked 3 months in advance the most expensive type of room offered (large modern room)but on arrival we received a room that couldn't be smaller and had only 1 small window in corridor space viewing the opposite house wall. When we complained and requested to have at least 2 beds we received 2 days later a twin bed room with 2 windows plus balcony which was much nicer. So my advice is to book the cheaper medium modern room as there is no guarantee you will get what you have booked, at least that was our impression.

Lovely staff, quiet location, close to center, good prices. Apparently there was a mistake in our reservation and we were offered a bigger room (vintage) than the one we actually reserved (a modern one), for the same price, which we appreciate. We would definitely go back to this hotel.

Very nice hotel near the central station. Good choice for 3/4 days in amsterdam.

Good for those in good physical condition for climbing steep and narrow stairs. "Breakfast" is just coffee, toast and jam. Location very walkable from Central Station.

Clean, comfortable, functional, modern rooms. Location: 5-7 minute walk from the train station. Breakfast was meagre with only bread and preserves available. However, guests have access to the coffee machine all day long.

The steps are steep- but they all are in Amsterdam! The young woman at the desk could not have been nicer. Very helpful with where to/eat and what to see.

This was a great place to stay. You do have to be fit though to get up the stairs and don't overpack... narrow stairwell. But the position was fantastic, the views from our room was just great, the internet and b'fast facilities were perfect, and the staff could not have been more helpful and just really cool (keeping a very straight face as my 57 year old husband asked where he could find hash cookies)....... I would stay here every time we go to amsterdam. Really made our experience that much more enjoyable.

This is an excellent hotel, very friendly and capable staff, good breakfast, and excellent service. Chic & Basic is an extraordinary hotel for the price.

I booked the medium vintage double room (94€ per room per night) but it was very very small. Once there I discovered that the small room is the single room, so the medium room is the smallest double room you can have. I was very upset (94€ is a good price for a standard room, not for a very very small room) so they kindly moved us to a bigger room for the following days at the same price (very appriciated). In conclusion, they are very kind, you have a bar area with coffe machine for free (it makes a good cappuccino and i am italian so you can trust me) but it's a little expensive in relation to the spaciousness of rooms. If you want to be confortable and you don't care too much about the price, don't book the medium vintage room!

Excellent accommodation for a 2 star rated property. Free WiFi, modern rooms, Great location on a beautiful canal, good breakfasts and a free coffee machine to use whenever you like.

I've rated the facilities rather low because the web page promised mini fridge and aircondition and that was not true in any room. Beside from that is it a very nice place.

Foyer very sophicticated and staff very welcoming. Breakfast (not included) was very good quality and reasonably OK for value. Was given a larger room on arrival... only downside was that it was up 3 flights of steep stairs. Still, this was expected and is part of the fun of a canal house hotel. Fantastically located and staying here was effortless.

The hotel is very nice, it's very close to Amsterdam Central Station witch makes very easy to get to. The room was ok, but a little to small for my taste, also was a little bit too cold. If it were summer probably I would have give it a 10. I would go the second time.

We paid 140 avg for three nights and were given an attic room, which was reached by a ladder. There was little head room. In fact in Ireland the room would not pass building regulations to qualify as a room. We asked for another room but were told hotel was full. As far as I was concerned I thought we were paying for best available double room. I am very disappointed.

This was a magnificent hotel. I would certainly recommend it to anyone staying in Amsterdam. Probably the best price/quality ratio anywhere in Amsterdam. The breakfast was excellent and the reception area was superb. Our friends also stayed in the hotel and were equally happy, however, stay away from room 233 (IIRC) it's tiny with no windows. But nearly all other rooms have very nice with excellent clean interiors.

Well away from hustle and bustle, but nevertheless it only 5 to 10 minutes from the central station.

Great location, close to central station, close to old center, great neighboorhood. Loved our stay in Ams, and the hotel had all to do with it!

Not all the rooms are 'Chic&Basic' yet, but our one was still clean and nice. The hotel location is great and the staff were very helpful.

Tolles, modernes Hotel in unmittelbarer Zentrums und Bahnhofsnähe. Die Zimmer sind klein aber fein und bei geschlossenem Fenster auch ruhig. Man kann vom Hotel Fahrräder leihen und auch sonst ist der Service excellent. Tolles, umfangreiches Frühstücksbuffet (Frühstück ist extras zu bezahlen aber zahlt sich in jedem Fall aus) und es gibt Kaffee zu jeder Tages und Nachtzeit. Wir kommen bestimmt wieder.

My husband and I had a 15hr layover in Amsterdam so we decided to get out of the airport and get a hotel. For a short stay we would recommend this hotel to other people. If you want to stay for ,more than 3 days not so much. Our room was very small and only my husband was able to open the window. The air in the room was kind of thick. Beds were very comfortable and rooms were practicably furnished. The common areas were very nice! Free access to internet and free coffee any time of the day.

We can recommend this address for a short stay (restricted room space and storage means), and will not hesitate to book again: good value for money, pleasant and well situated hotel, friendly personnel!

Great Hotel but older people may want a ground floor room as there is no lift.
