It is good value for money considering that all the other hotels in Amsterdam would charge more for a weekend. Let's call it a chic hostel. There was no reception after 11 p.m. which is something with speaks for itself. The receptionist insisted for the room bill to be settled immediately, while all international hotels allow this at check-out. I was going to pay in cash that night after the arrival of the friend travelling with me. I said to the receptionist this and also that the booking was secured with the credit card I used with Venere. When I was going out, he kindly stopped me (in front of other guests who were checking-in) to kindly remind me that I had to pay and he told me where I could find an atm. IT WAS EMBARASSING. My friend (with whom I shared the room) arrived in the evening, and the same thing happened to her. She was speechless. Needless to say we only had one towel each (body, hands, face etc.) and when we asked for an extra one, this was promised but it never arrived. As I said, a chic hostel.

This was not a room but a doorway that was boarded up with the door still intact on one side. Drugie kids would sit and smoke on the the steps infront of the "door" and make loud noise at night with the heat the window had to be open and their smoke would and noise would enter the room. The room has 2.3m2 of carpet which is horrifically stained and dirty and could have been replaced with a new carpet for as little as 20 euros. Exstremely narrow bed with one foot of space left to move on the one side of it as said it was the doorway before it was turned into a room. The free wireless internet which was the only redeeming factor was irratic and when it went off the one evening no one new how to get it one until next morning. At the high price they charged you could have had a double room at a different hotel.

On the plus side, location is excellent. Within walking distance to museums and wonderful restaurants/bars. The room we were given at first was a real hole in the wall. NOTHING at all like what was pictured on the website. After complaining to reception, we were transferred to a newly renovated room, as pictured on website. May I recommend also that price quoted INCLUDE taxes? Although it was written in the contract that price excluded city and government taxes, it's still quite a hassle to compute when paying. We also had to pay upon checking in, in cash, as there is a surcharge applied to credit card payments.

I don't know why but the agreed price was increased by 5% for taxes (?) and 5% for payment by card (credit or debit)

My single room was appalingly small. It just fitted a single bed. To shower, you almost had to stand on the toilet. When I wanted to changed the length of my stay (shorten), I was charged for one night extra anyway. Even though I mentioned this change at arrival. 0 flexibility.

There was a great amount of building work going on inside the hotel and all public areas were taken up by this. The hotel should not have been open. It was terrible. On arrival we asked for a cup of tea but they said they did not have any cups! They did have cups for breakfast, which was also very poor. The room were very stuffy and small and the windows would not open. I would not recommend this hotel at all.

The actual facilities and rooms definitely do not match the photos. breakfast very very minimal with no toaster available. No fridge in room. Definitely not value for money. Water in bathroom either too cold or hot, difficult to control. Avoid if possible. there are many more hotels in that area. there is an italian restaurant in the basement, located facing the main road off the hotel, had a good meal there, one of the few best restaurant i hv been in that area.

If you going by tram from Central station and stopped 1 station before the indicated one, you walk about the same distance and have 3 different Trams to choose. Hotel is under renovation although did not disturb me. Friendly staff, good relationship between price/quality.

A superior-quality tourist class hotel; friendly and welcoming; nice public lounge and breakfast area; single rooms are small but adequate, with toilet and shower. Breakfast is continental and plentiful, included in the price for the room. Excellent location just off the Museum Square, close to Leidseplein and the lovely Vondelpark. About 15-20 minutes walk from Dam Square, but trams no.1,2 & 5 run frequently between Leidseplein and the city centre/central station.

Hotel Groenhf is located in a great area close to Museums, Park and restaurants. We were cold in our room until someone turned some heat on for us one day. It is a basic hotel but the location is good but price is high for 3 star.

the only thing think we didn't like was actually the breakfast: the room was clearly not enough, the offer not quite rich and the employees couldn't help the delays between making toasts, boiling eggs and refill everything..! everything else was perfect.

Le petit déjeuner sous forme de buffet est léger et peu varié pour un pays comme la Hollande. Le manque d'ascenseur est gênant. La situation et le calme sont excellents

Hotels in Amsterdam seems to be a sad story with overpriced dodgy rooms. This hotel was no exception. Although the location is good the room I had was not. Very cramped, a radiator that could not be turned off and generally very worn down and dirty. To guarantee booking you had to provide credit card details but I paid cash for the room to avoid the extra percentage charges when paing with credit cards. However, two months later a 10 Euro debit shows up on my credit card bill! So all in all I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Nearly everything was fine here other than it being located just too far to walk it comfortably.Warm and friendly with a nice reception decor and breakfast room, good value if you dont mind catching the trams to get to the dam etc.Rooms had noisey slaming doors so busy rooms were noisy rooms!

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and was very dissapointed by the size of the room and the facilities and cleanliness of the room. Ok the location is nice but the room was not more then a place to sleep and I could have had that at a better price and quality elswhere. The room was clearly not recently rennovated as stated on the webpage and did by no means match with the room that I saw on the webpage when I booked the hotel. The price was about 20% lower compared to when I had taken the room that night (I know because someone else asked for a room when I checked in). The staff was rather cool (neither friendly nor unfriendly) but it took them about 15 minutes and a lot of help from my end to find in their folders that print out from Venere.com to confirm my booking. All in all I must say that I have stayed in better hotels in Amsterdam for this price. I would not consider to go here again.

Clean quiet hotel well situated in a quiet part of Amsterdam, close to main transport and museums. Room basic but clean, could benefit from tea making facilities in room. Staff quiet but effectual in the job of running hotel. Not particularly organised when we arrived and a bit surprised to see us. Told if we had arrived after 11pm nobody would have been on duty to receive us. Disappointed in that price advertised on web was not that paid as there were 5% local taxes added and 5% to pay by credit card. If that had been clear when initially booking would have looked at bigger price range of hotels.

Its astonishing what gets past as 2 stars. Forget the single rooms offered by Groenhof. So unbelievable small they are an afterthought. Rooms smell & generally you feel you are staying in a hostel; so pay the extra 20Euro and stay at the Ibis next to central station. If it wasn't for location (close to museum plein & on 2 tram lines... For the cheap and dirty - this is perfect for your stay.

The Staff were all Very Friendly. My room was what I expected in Europe...big enough to stay in for a few days with a double bed and En-Suite bathroom with shower. The location was great with access to trams and boats to get around town. Nice and quiet location also. I would go back.

Dear all, although we had a very nice time in Amsterdam we are very unhappy with the hotel we had booked. For 2 days/3 nights we had no heating and no hot water. On the second morning we were sent to a room on a different floor to have a shower. Whenever we asked when this will be fixed we were told in a couple of minutes. We expected a discount of 30% and were only given 15%. We even had to pay 5% city tax and 5% service costs. When we complained about the price we were told that the price that was given to us via the Internet (405.00/EUR) was actually incorrect, it would have been much more expensive so we should be happy that we still got a reduction on the "incorrect" price. Breakfast was rather poor, also not enough seats were available. We got advised to sit outside on the terrace...well it was raining. In general, we would definitely not recommend this hotel. Regards, Lucienne

During my stay there was always one of two people at the front desk. This man and woman were the nicest and most helpful people. The price was not as inclusive as I was told when I booked. Another tax was added.

We got a room that was exactly what we ask for in our reservation, quite big, quiet and overlooking an inside garden with no neighbours looking in. If anyone is interested the number was 209. the staff was very pleasant and welcoming and one of them was like a walking tourist information and could answer any question we had, including exact train time tables to different cities. We had a calm and good time there. The breakfast could be improved, as it is very basic and there is no toaster in sight.

I had to ask for another room, more expensive. then the hotel ask 5% more for payment with credit card I know that the Credit Card Company ask maximum 1,5% In my country this is not legal!

We stayed three nights, left for a week, returned to Amsterdam and stayed another three nights before we left for home. We liked the hotel that much. They could add to the breakfast items, although this is not a point against the establishment. We are recommending this hotel for others who are traveling to Amsterdam.

We split up into double rooms, it was great. Comfortable walk from quiet neighbourhood to all the stores, sights and restaurants. From there leads right into the center of the city. Trams and late night food right around the corner. Front desk was rather helpful with information for getting around etc. Bathrooms seem to be recently re-done, very very clean. In March it was nice and quiet at all times, don't know about tourist season. They didn't have USA-continental adapter plugs so bring your own. Didn't dare try the breakfast. Overall great value for money.

The hotel was clean, comfortable and the staff were extremely friendly. The location (beside Vondelpark) was top class with a short walk to Liedseplein and Van Gogh museum. Would stay there again! One complaint was that the breakfast was very disappointing, fresh orange juice and croissants would make an improvement.
