1. The bathroom was not throughly clean when I arrived and it was not cleaned during my stay (6nights). The bathroom as a whole was of a poor standard. The shower didn't drain and had a risk of flooding (Room 6). 2. To serve breakfast between 8:30 and 10 it's a funny peculiar time. It should start at 7:30 as the latest. I always missed the breakfast cos I had to rush to my conference venue. The staff was kind enough to bring me a coffee anyway, but it would be better if I could have made use of the kitchen to fix myself some breakfast (and cleaning the mess righ after, of course)

What a charming inexpensive hotel right beside the Museumplein! Our room was spacious, with 12-foot-high floor to ceiling windows that opened onto a back courtyard, peacful and green. Everyone we met there was welcoming. The included breakfast was served in our room. The only possible concern for some is that those lovely tall ceilings mean long, steep staircases, even more so than other notorious-staircase cities I've visited in Europe. If you have mobility problems, think twice. Other than that I recommend it for all.

Excellent spacious character room (triple) with high ceilings. Our triple had its own shower and sink area in a boxed off corner of the room. The toilet was shared by one other room and close by. Mattresses were comfortable. I could not recommend the hotel to anyone with mobility problems as the access staircase is two storey and steep (a leg killer). The more than adequate breakfast was brought between 8.30 and 9am to our room. Staff were helpful and were happy to store our luggage in a cupboard near reception after we had booked out at 11am as our flight was later in the day. I really liked the area near the hotel- museumplein (square) and opposite the concert hall. It was much less rushed that in the centre of Amsterdam. Transport to town and the airport was just outside the hotel. Overall in terms of location, price and comfort- excellent if on a budget.

This was a great hotel, especially for the price. It was in a great location with easy access to the trams! The staff was very friendly, helping to carry my bag up the very steep Dutch steps. The room was large enough and the breakfast was good. We would stay here again!

Hotel Bema is a very depressing building some distance away from the nicer parts of Amsterdam. I guess this was a valuable lesson in 'you get what you pay for.' The room was dirty, the bed was two single mattresses pushed together, the ensuite was a partitian wall with a dribble of water for a shower. The hotel was also under renovation when we arrived so was not the quiet retreat we had hoped for. Book with caution... or perhaps only if you cannot afford anything more!

Our two nights at Hotel Bema were a highlight of our travels around the Netherlands and Belgium. Keep in mind that, as budget travelers, our standards might be different than those who are used to spending more cash. We chose Bema because of its price, but were slightly concerned about its location. Ideally, we wanted to stay closer to the city center but the hotels there within our budget receive terrible reviews. Our concerns about location were totally unfounded. Bema is located directly across the side of the Concertgebouw, one of the world's premier concert halls, and mere steps from the Van Gogh Museum and the worldclass Rijksmuseum. It is also along a couple of tram lines with very frequent service into the city center. In addition, the city center is compact enough that we found ourselves often walking to and from the hotel and the city center. We were very warmly welcomed by the staff who also directed our very hungry selves to nearby restaurants in the Pijp neighborhood. Our room was much bigger than we thought it would be, and featured art, beautiful antique furniture and a chandelier. It also had a huge window that opened over some beautiful backyard gardens. The shower room in the room, and the toilet is shared by the entire floor. Both were sufficiently clean for our standards. The most incredible part?- A full beautiful tray of breakfast (an egg, coffee, tea, toast, and meat and cheese) delivered to your room every morning. The only reason we would not want to recommend this hotel is because we would not want an increased demand to raise their rates. The value to quality ratio is excellent. Also, anyone with mobility issues should be aware that there is a rather long and steep staircase leading to the reception.

Only issue we had with the hotel was the plumbing! The water in the shower often went hot and cold while you were in there which was not so pleasant but overall it was a lovely location and we really enjoyed our stay. The hotel staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the breakfast being served in the room was really lovely and relaxed

Hotel was no surprise pretty much what we expected, was good value for money, There no elevators and has steep steps, so please watch out, we were lucky to get the room in the 2nd floor. Very close to the museum complex, can walk. Breakfast could be provided a bit earlier, was fairly clean, however nothing spectacular,

The hotel is close to the main museums, and the bus from and to the airport stops in front of its door. Quiet and clean, we were very happy about our stay there, specially if you compare the quality and prices of other accommodations in Amsterdam. People at the desk, discreet and friendly. The breakfast, included in the price, had coffee, 1 egg, 1 orange juice, 2-3 toast, butter and marmalade. Good and clean shared showers. Steep stairs at the entrance, but worth to climb. If we have to return to Amsterdam, we will stay again at the Bema Hotel.

This hotel is have easy access of public transportation. you can go to many tourism attraction from the trem station just across the hotel. the only poor thing about this hotel is that it has no lift, so you have to carry your bag up and down the long stairways. The reception was very nice to help carrying my bag tho. but I love staying in this hotel.

This was biggest surprise of our trip - a one star hotel in a great location, with great service, friendly staff. The rooms are a little small but they have such high ceilings and big windows they don't feel small at all. Breakfast comes to your room so you do have to pop up to get it, but lying in bed, nibbling breakfast as I read a good book - I felt like I was at a spa! As with most budget hotels there are a lot of stairs to deal with but it is worth climb! Great location, close to museums (recommend the Van Gogh Museum!) and parks. Tram stops right across the street.

Sorry to write this but this was close to a nightmare. It all started with making the reservation. I came across Bema because I looked for a room close to Museumplein but was placed in an apartment in Jordan, an entirely different district, albeit charming in its own right but quite far from things we wanted to see. No one told us it was so far from the hotel itself. Everything about the check-in procedure was quite shady - a hotel employee had to get in the car with us and take us to the apartment (10 min drive), then we had to go back to the stadium parking which is not far from the hotel as the website correctly states but our apartment was at the other end of the town. To top it off, the man who was taking us around didn't tell me I need to get a special P+R ticket when I parked the car; as a result at the end of the two days I was asked to pay five times the promised rate and it took me 30 min to talk myself out of it. The apartment itself was very bare and offered little comfort for the price paid - brick walls, steel cabinets as in a gym locker room, very old furniture etc. although having a kitchenette was nice (but the drawers tend to fall apart). Naturally, the Internet access promised on the hotel site was non-existent in the apt. All this was very annoying. Overall my impression is that the hotel is managing a shady network of private apartments. They should at least be very specific about locations and amenities in each apartment or be taken off the Venere site.

The hotel is OK but not more. It is well located near Tram stops and museumplein. The room was spacious and clean. The stairs are impressive and overall the hotel is old fashioned. The service is correct but minimum and if you want to get the prices indicated on the internet, you need to pay by cash otherwise extra tax will be applied.

The welcoming was good, and the room were spacious, however the shower is built in a box in the room, and its was smelling from smoke, although it was made an attempt to cover it up with spray...after the room had been thoroughly aired out, it was OK. The problem was that they do not have a room where they serv breakfast, but serve it in the room. It could have been nice with the breakfast in the room, however since its only a short time interval 30min-1 h when you can get your breakfast and you don't go and ask but they come when they please in that interval, and knock the door. One of the mornings there were so much sounds from the room above, athet we did not hear the personnel, knocking. Although we were up waiting for it! And even worse when we asked for the breakfast a few minutes after the period was over, they refused to serve it! I then suggested that the could have said the word "Breakfast" so that it was possible to hear that they were knocking and not just the neighbours above they even argued that it was more noisy the day before and it was our fault, and they did not need to say "breakfast" only knock... well until that point the stay was fine, but the very rude way of arguing with their guests, when they even suggest a simple improvement, is not what I expect from a service facility. So if you plan on having a relaxed breakfast when you decide. Book another hotel. For the hotel I recommend: That the breakfast could either be eaten in a dining room, or ordered to a specific time. And talk with your breakfast personnel about being customer friendly. Simply say the word "Breakfast" and perhaps leave the tray outside the door?

I had just one day in Amsterdam, and wanted to be central to the city but not spend alot of money. The small hotel is not pretentious, nor very new, but the quality of the services were superb. I arrived after midnight and was welcomed without problem. (one word of warning: very steep stairs to reach the hotel on the 2nd floor.) The hotel has character, the room was big and beautiful, the bed was firm and comfortable, I slept well and woke to a warm room, the breakfast was brought on a nice tray, and the merto line was right outside. there was everything I needed, and would stay again.

I thought this would be a lot better given the reviews. But it is what it is, a 1 star hotel. Probably very convenient for young kids on a budget visiting Amsterdam, but not for the typical travelers. The hotel was the only bad thing about our trip to Amsterdam. They even mentioned a mouse problem to us and was not very clean. Everyone has already mentioned the crazy stairs too. We will definitely spend a few more $ next time for a better and cleaner hotel. It was disappointing to say the least.

NO LIFT! The stairs going up to the reception are a killer, never seen such steep stairs. The room was quite spacious and clean, however the squeaking floorboards from above and the rattling of the glass light fitting (movement from the room above) kept us awake half the night. The breakfast was good and brought to the room. Location was very good, across from the concert hall and a 5 minute walk from the museums. Trams across the road and supermarket also. Checking in and checking out did seem to take a while, the staff weren't too confident with the credit card system.

The hotel is much better than what i expected for a one star hotel. The service was better then other 3 star hotels we stayed during our trip. Staff is really helpful, they brought breakfast to the room, so nice. The rooms with shower inside are a lot bigger. There is free internet at the living room. The area is safe and right next to museumplein. The only bad thing is the high and narrow stair since there is no elevator, but this is very common in Amsterdam.

We thought we were going to end up in a hotel, but ended up having a two bedroom apartment to ourselves. There was a large living space a fully equipped kitchen and was very near a great market.

The room was clean, linens were clean. Old building but everything was in working order and clean. I asked for 4 single beds since there were 4 single women traveling together and what we got was 2 singles and 2 cots pushed together making 2 doubles but we made do. The stairs are steep and many of them. A bit of a struggle for some with luggage and all. Still, all was good and the lady running the show was particularly nice and accommodating to us all. breakfast was served to our room and was just the right touch. We had a wonderful stay. Of something I would change, would be to add hand towels/face towels to the room.

A very disappointing experience. The worst I had on this trip. There are three ways this hotel differs from any other hotel I visited. a) No way to cancel after booking (cancelation date is in the past when you book) b) They charge your card right away as opposed to other hotels that charge you after the stay. Also they levied an extra fee that I have no explanation for. c) Finally the hotel "room" is really an apartment that is three tram stops away. A neighbor who lives in that apartment building comes over on a cycle and shows you the place. The only way to know where this apartment might be is to arrive at the "hotel" bema and then get ready for the next hop. Now to the apartment. The only two good things I can say is that water is hot, bed is ok. The neighbourhood is colourful. The carpet is threadbare. All in all a very disappointing experience. The worst value for money if any. I would recommend that Venere remove this "hotel" from its listing. I would advise everybody to stay away from this establishment.

Great place as it is so close to the van Gogh museum. The hotel is only a 10 min tram ride and there are 5 trams and a couple of buses that is right by the corner. The staff was great. Brought us breakfast (coffee/hot coco, toast, ham, cheese & hard boiled eggs) to the room! Pointed us to where the local laundry mat. The only small issue that may be cause some people stress is the stairs - narrow and steep as this is the top two floors of an old 4 storey house. The room was on the small side but ok for us but if you are used to large rooms then you should go spend more $$$ somewhere else. Stayed in two of their rooms: room with the washroom/shower is about twice the size of rooms with only the wash basin. Overall, great hotel for the price & great service.

This was a fabulous room for the price; we had our own floor of a flat. I would have expected to pay many times more than we did for so much space. Although it was a lower level of finish than one might expect in a hotel room, plain not fancy, it was spacious, sunny and clean. It was in a neighborhood within easy walking distance of the Jordaan and near two of the tram lines. It had a canal view and there is a grocery store around the corner. The staff were extremely helpful, both on arrival and on getting back to the airport. When we return, we will stay here.

Our hotel had a nice atmosphere, and slightly old and unusual but a comfortable decor. Shared bathroom was basic, and toilet had little space, but all fully functional and there was also a tiny washbasin in our room. The room was cosy and warm (visited in November), and breakfast in bed was a nice way to start the day. Also good location, situated by Museumplein. Good value for money.

Nos mandaron a un departamento, que era bastante bueno, amplio, nuevo, pero con escaleras realmente estrechas y empinadas. Ademas estaba ubicado en una calle que es una feria. Nice, spacious appartement in walking distance (10 min) to Leidseplein and Dam. Very noisy street (Rozengracht), so you have to shut the windows during the night. There is a B&O sound system and TV set plus VCR in the appartement. The stairs up there are adventurous and because there is no fresh air in the hallway, you can smell moisture and dust. the service was fine: we were guided from the hotel to the app (by publ. transport, not by car) and a taxi to the airport at 5 a.m. was arranged for a very reasonable price (20 euro)

I was a little freaked out about the one star rating, but as it turned out, I liked this hotel better than any of the 2 and 3 star hotels we stayed at in other cities. Our room was huge with a beautiful bed, nice linens, high ceilings, and big windows looking into a kind of courtyard. Certainly not what you would call posh, but quirky in a very charming way. The people are so kind, and they bring the breakfast (included in the price) to your room in the morning. You can't beat the neighborhood--near all the cultural attractions and the fashion district.

The hotel Bema is good for those wanting a low cost budget break in amsterdam and would suit budget travellers, if you're after luxury don't stay here but overall the hotel staff were friendly and we had a good trip no problems.

Nell'insieme molto soddisfatta.

Only had one day, but the room is quite large, the hotel is clean and well situated, close to a tram stop to the centre. I'll defenitely be back when I go to Dam. Great breakfast.

As indicated during booking Hotel Bema had only a vacancy for an apartment 10 min. walk away. The good thing: It was easily accessible from the street with only few steps because the staircase of Hotel Bema to the reception area is simply frightening (at least for older people or family with small children). The apartment was spacious, quiet, clean and equipped with a kitchen, towels and bedsheets. We liked the area and the easy access to public transport and the museums. The problem: We arrived late and had no idea about local supermarkets and restaurant closing times. Fortunately we managed to find a still open supermarket. During our three days nobody came for cleaning. Both is ok if Hotel Bema would prepare a short list with the necessary informations and deposit a second set of towels and bedsheets if needed. Otherwise the reception was very friendly and tried to be as helpful as possible. For people who like to be on their own we would fully recommend Hotel Bema. A warning: For confirmation Hotel Bema will take the price of one night as non returnable deposit if you cancel your booking. If you pay with a credit card Hotel Bema has to add additional fees. Both should be mentioned on the website.

More of a B&B than a hotel; rooms are very individual / quirky. Old building with delightful high ceilings; facilities a bit timeworn, but clean. Steep Dutch stairs would be a challenge for those with a lot of luggage. No air conditioning, but in mid-September the room was very comfortable with fresh air from the opened french doors. Breakfast, alas, has a fixed and non-adjustable starting time of 8:30: I had to pass it up to ensure an on-time arrival at the airport.
