Good quality overall, especially the breakfast provided. Main negatives are the very steep stairs so it's a challenge if you have a big luggage. The single room is very small but adequate. On my first stay, the toilet/shower was on another floor which is quite a drag. When I went back after two weeks, it's good I was given a room where the common toilet/shower was on the same floor.

The welcome was very pleasant, the location is great as the hotel is within close walking distance from the Van Gogh and Rijks museums, and the tram to the centre is just two minutes away. The only "hmm" point was the bathroom - we enjoyed our neighbours' conversations very much!

The room and place were nice and overall clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was well furnished, but tiny. In fact, the bed was smaller than twin size. Had the bed not been so narrow, it would not have fit in the room. I'm a small person, so I did not mind, but if I were a big man, I think it might have been unsuitable. The stairs are dangerously short in width between each other. Because of the stairs, I do not recommend this place for people who don't walk well or people with small children. There is an elevator, but it is slow and at 1 point during my stay, did not operate. For a healthy person or couple, this hotel is nice, clean, and inexpensive.

Chambre spacieuse au décor banal. Equipement sanitaire basique.

Hotel Asterisk was our favorite of all our Europe hotels during our trip. Large, clean, comfortable. The staff is fabulous, especially Nema. The nearby Carosel Resturant serves great breakfast all day and wonderful hot chocolate. The metro is easy to ride all over this small city, plus you can walk to many places easily. The canal cruise is just 2 blocks away from hotel. We loved this hotel!

I was in Amsterdam for 3 nights by myself. As a recent college graduate, the price and other peoples reviews were what got me to book at this hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the rooms and public areas very clean and looked to be quite new. Sharing a bathroom was not an issue, it was always clean and I never ran into anyone. My single room was sort of small, but was not an issue, even with me being 6'6". The hotel has a 2nd group of 8 rooms across the street and half a block down, but the short walk to breakfast was not an issue. Location was great, only a short walk to the museums, and maybe 30 minutes to the city center. I would definitely reccomend this hotel to anyone looking to travel on a budget. It was well worth the 44 euros a night.

When we arrived at the Asterisk it seemed to be a long way from the centre of Amsterdam, but it turned out to be a short walking distance from all attractions and areas. The room was situated in a separate building across the road from the main hotel, but the room was massive with a clean bathroom. The included breakfast was excellent and the staff were very approachable and friendly.

We booked two rooms for four adults and were told when we got there that they had the booking as 2 single rooms so we ended up paying more than half again as much to get the rooms we thought we had booked in the first place. I don't know whether this was Venere's problem or the hotels but that was very frustrating.

This hotel appeared in advance to be somewhat remotely located, but it became obvious that the location was really quite good overall, because it is quiet, safe, close to good restaurant clusters and commercial areas (including the market), very near to key tram lines, and close to the museums. Staff were very helpful. Twin beds were actually separated. Bathroom facilities excellent. Note: they did ask to be paid in advance and in cash, which for a multiple-day stay might maxed out our cash machine limits.

This was my first stay at Hotel Asterisk. It was perfect for my needs, and an extremely good deal, especially with the full breakfast included. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The quiet residential neighborhood was a blessing, and I slept quite well. I shared a bathroom, which was always very clean, and I never had to wait for people. I was expecting a budget hotel, but Hotel Asterisk was only budget in the size of the room and my choice of a shared bathroom. My room was perfect to come back to get a great night sleep for my next day out in Amsterdam.

It's really nice Hotel. The staff are helpful. It's so close to public transport. I can move anywhere by tram and not far from attractive places. The room is so small but the share shower is clean. The breakfast is nice. I would like to stay here again if I come back next time. I recommend this hotel to Budget traveller like me. One more thing the staff can arrange tour trip for u as well. I recommend for someone who never been to Amsterdam to buy I amsterdamn card and u can save much as u can in transportation most of Museum will be free and 25% discount with your card including free ticket for Canal cruise as well.

This was my first trip to Amsterdam so it's difficult to compare, however, for the pricing I would say it's a good place. The room is VERY small and noise travels in the hotel. I consider myself lucky to have had a top level room and quiet neighbors. All in all my stay was satisfactory. I wouldn't recommend this to a traveling couple. The double bed was pushed up against a wall so someone would have to crawl over the other to get out of bed for a late night pee. (And don't forget to bring a robe for the out of room toilet.)

The staff (particularly at reception) were fantastic, breakfast was good, the building quite beautiful and very clean. We expected a small room from other comments posted but we didn't expect a small bed. The double bed was more like a king single. Our room was next to the stairs which was very noisy and there was jackhammering in the building outside our window. Perhaps paying the extra for an ensuite room and asking for a room at the front of the building would be better.

Strange practises (lunch offered if you pay cash, something like 4 % of extra taxes if you pay with a credit card !, room must be paid at the check in and not at the check out) Very small room without toilets and shower. Otherwise good location and good breakfirst !

We were 5 friends who shared 3 rooms for a long weekend in Amsterdam. The twin rooms in the main building were spacious enough - and much bigger than they looked in the photos. The location is perfect - within walking distance from museums, arkeds, shopping and nightlife. We had a great stay! (But the hotels coffee is very poor...;-D )

We booked a double room via Venere, the rate quoted was 80 Euro, the map said Den Tex Str - the map today shows a completely different location and the rate is now 69 Euro !! The Hotel was perfect as far as location was concerned, and the staff were excellent, the breakfast was fine BUT the room was totally different to the picture - a double bed squeezed length wise into the room with not even a cm on either side and to open the window you had to climb onto the bed. Our understanding was that we were to get private bath - turned out the Venere booking was for a basic at the rate quoted, and to upgrade to private would cost us 40 euro extra, but the hotel was full. If you pay by Credit Card you get charged 4% extra. All said - we would return to the Asterisk, the position was perfect for exploring Amsterdam, close to Rijks, trams and restaurants.

Our room was MINUTE, despite booking a double room (see photo on website!). We hardly had space to move! However, the service was good and the location is good - 5 min' walk from Rijksmuseum and very close to transport systems.HOT TIP : If you go by car, park at the Olympic Stadium outside the city for 6 euros for 24 hours (incl 2 free return tram tickets to hotel).

I recommend the Hotel Asterisk as a budget hotel in Amsterdam. Our room was large and clean, and was serviced daily. The only downside with the room was that it smelled of cigarette smoke. The smell was quite strong and could not be gotten rid of even with the windows open all day. The Hotel is on a quiet street and the staff are very helpful. It is close to public transport and a supermarket is in walking distance.

Friendly staff, clean and quiet rooms. Bathroom should be refurbished. Good location, near the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh museum and the main tram lines. Credit card payment are surcharged in 4%. Prices at Venere.com are only for cash payment. We have enjoyed our stay, however, next time we will try to find a hotel a little bit nearer city center.

This was our first time to use the internet for room reservations in Europe. We were very please with our hotel choice for the following reasons.....cleanliness, staff cooperation, and location. It was near to public transportation. Plus some museums were within walking distance. It certainly make our visit to Amsterdam a very comfortable experience.

The room was very small, not to say tiny (definitly less than 9 square meters). All doors slam automatically and are hence very loudly, so that your neighbours will wake you up at night. Which is a pitty since the hotel is in a very quiet and beuatiful street near the very city center.nThe room also heats up which was in early June already close to being unbearable.
