We got bites from bedbugs at out stay in the hotell. That indicates poor cleaning of the sheets etc. Creepy feeling. Other than that the location was perfect, just in the middle of everything and the staff was very helpful whenever we asked for something.

The employees are very friendly and helpfull and the location was excellent. Unfortunately our room was very noisy as each morning at around six to seven the carbage from the many surrounding restaurants and hotels were collected with a lot of noise directly in front of the room window. Also the cushions were extremely hard and uncomfortable, and the room was only heated very late in the night.

The hotel was incredible. The staff was so nice and prepared to offer an excellent service. If I return to Amsterdam, I will definately return to this hotel. Why are you going to pay for a hostal the same price if you can go to a wonderful hotel just like this one. Keep up the good work!!!

This hotel was our last stop of our 3 week trip across Europe. The room was big, but I found it very dirty. Of all the hotels we stayed in, this one the only one that I had to check the mattress for bed bugs. There were none, but I would not have been surprised if there were. The hotel is in a great location and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The bed was SO uncomfortable. We got room #1, which was on the first floor with a nice view of the canal, but was located right beside a bar. We could hear the music as we were trying to fall asleep. I would not stay at this hotel again.

Yes, the carpet was stained and all that, but the room was clean. We had a HUGE room overlooking the canal. The staff was GREAT! They helped us with our pathetic attempt at the Dutch language. The location was great, walking distance to seemingly everything especially the Waterlooplein-which is now my favorite open air market. I miss the Waterlooplein already. It's not a luxurious hotel, it feels a step or two up from a hostel, but we had a great time while we were there. We were happy we weren't there on a weekend though because the street noise may have been too much. we slept with earplugs during the week.

We were allocated a room that was not in the main hotel. Matrasses were 3 000 years old. my sister tried to call us and she was told (9 times) that we were not answering - meantime there was not even a telephone in the room. What a cheek!! Very noisy. Next to transvestite bar. Disasterous two nights. Other hotels in Holland were fortunately much better.

This is a nice hotel in Amsterdam and we had no complaints. However we did have an interesting time as we arrived on the one day of the year where there is a street party on outside the hotel and had to push our way through this to get to the hotel. Make sure that you look at the hotel from the outside, or preferably from the canal, as it has a sharp lean which we never noticed from the inside.

The Amstelzicht is perfectly located in the heart of Amsterdam, within walking distance of EVERYTHING. My room with a view was very spacious and comfortable. The value for the money was a real steal. The furnishings are not luxurious but I perfer older, charming, shabby and comfortable surroundings. The canal view was spectacular.

It is a very nice hotel. Not really far from any touristic part of the city (Dam, red light district, flower market, museum place...). We never used the bus or tram. We wished we had a more beautiful view, but it's ok.

Cleanliness of rooms is not the best. At our arrive we found the sheets dirty (several stain like a squirt...) but they provide quickly to change it whit a little shame. Room number 2 is just over the reception and the huge window overlook a backyard with service entrance of a restaurant. You can see trash can and refrigerator engine. Everyone can see you when you are in the room to changing and showering. A lot of noise due to waitress hustle and bustle and smoking break. I used earplugs to sleep. The bathroom is clean and wide. A lot of hot water and clean towel everyday. A budget hotel, in a lovely position (everything is near, just a short walking) for group of friends unpretentious.

If you're looking for function rather than comfort then this hotel is fine. A great location and the rooms are clean though basic. A short walk to the main tourist areas but far enough away to not be immersed in it. The best feature were the fantastic staff who were so helpful - they offered to keep our bags for us past check out time so we could really enjoy our last day and were always really happy to help.

I booked a quad which was in acutality a 1 bedroom apartment converted into a hotel room. They had a double bed in the bedroom and then another one in the living room. There was a small kitchenette as well. The "apartment" was not connected to the hotel. You had to use you key to open up a door that led into an alleyway and then open the door to the building and then one last lock into your room. Because we didn't actually stay in the real hotel I couldn't tell you much about it's interior. The interior of the "apartment" was very sparse and basic. The hotel is in a great location though...unless you are driving to amsterdam then there is no parking near the hotel. We were told that we could park in the parking garage for 70 euros a day or we could have a company pick up the car and park it for 30 euros a day. All in all it wasn't a bad place to stay considering the price. So if you are looking for a inexpensive place right in the heart of amsterdam this is it. If you are looking for something alittle more elegant, like a 2 star hotel, perhaps you should pay a little more and look elsewhere.

The bedroom of the hotel was pretty gross. The matress was too soft and the blanket had noticeable, sizeable stains on the outside and inside of it. The carpets were also heavily stained. The room was quiet and the bathroom appeared to be newer and clean, which didn't really fit. Also, we stayed for 2 nights and the first night had wine, coffee, and a stocked mini bar, and for some reason the second night, they had come in and removed everything, and had also just taken our dirty towels and did not replace them. The towels were also kind of old and scratchy. Overall, the location of this hotel is wonderful, and the staff was friendly, but I probably would look for another hotel if I go back because I didn't feel very comfortable in the room. If you just need a place to sleep and don't plan to spend much time there, it might be a fine choice, but don't expect much.

Out of around 12 hotel stays in Europe this was the only one that disappointed us comparing to what we thought we were getting. Admittedly it was very inexpensive but it was still not good enough for what we were led to believe. Very disappointing. We moved hotels for the remainder of the stay.

The hotel was generally good. We reserved a quadruple room. It was spacious and very clean. And with a little kitchen. The only problem is that it was outside the hotel, and we were a little afraid at first. But, we have not any problem, really. The street is a little noisy, because there are clubs and discotheques, but not dangerous. The worst: the stairs.

We had a girls weekend to Amsterdam to do some shopping. The hotel was in perfect walking distance from everything, shopping, Red Light District, Central station.... The room was big and clean. This was a great hotel. Perfect central location to everything. We had a canal view (with a very nice view) and my only complaint was that even with windows shut it was very noisy at night. I am a very light sleeper and the first night I barely slept at all. There are bars/coffee shops near by so there were people walking by noisely on the streets all night long (even up to 6am). I just bought some ear plugs and I didnt have a problem the other nights. I would highly recommend the hotel.

Very noisy place due to 1- the circulation of cars in the street (especially delivery small trucks in the morning) 2- presence of a bar/night club below the apartment (music at very high level on sunday night). Attentioned employees but very low service level : no cleaning service during the stay except for the dustbin. they forgot to change towels during the stay, i had to ask for it. Not enough glasses and forks. The apartement has been refreshed by painting the walls (badly)that's all. Furnitures are not very clean. Uncomfortable sofa bed covered with dirty cushions. Dish washer and TV sets were old. It is spacy and very conveniently located that is the only interest of this apartment.

I don't know how this place has been getting good ratings. I based my desicion to stay here based on Venere reviews...the sheets were dirty (full of hairs), bathroom stunk, carpeting full of stains, and was noisy as hell. There is no lift, and we were on the very top floor--fine for a young couple like us, but I don't know how some would manage. Reception was unfriendly and unhelpful. Of course there was no breakfast, but that suited us fine as we prefer to explore the city for places to eat, yet value for price--very poor.

When I began research on this hotel the price was 79 Euro/night. I stupidly put off the decision to book until I had to pay 159 Euro/Night for a canal view. We are still glad we went. It was the most spacious room we had in a total of 4 rooms in Amsterdam. The view of the canal was so beautiful we spent one night just gazing at it. It was close to all the action, a wonderful location, with several restaurants off the Rembrandtsplein. They provided someone to carry our luggage up the steep stairs (much appreciated!). We were only sad we did not book more nights here.

We stayed in a quad room for 3 nights. It was nice to have 2 separate bedrooms and the beds were comfortable. We received the canal view room which was great....but very loud as there is a pub next door and the patrons were full of life in the middle of the night. The hotel staff were very helpful and assisted us with reservations and taxis. We loved the location...close to walk everywhere. I am glad I picked this spot after viewing the other options on Venere...which we spotted while we were in Amsterdam. The stairs are unbelievable steep...it made for a very funny espisode getting the bag upstairs. No breakfast but free internet. would go back and recommend.

Amsterdam is a smoke oriented city - both regular cigs and waccy baccy so be prepared for your clothes and hair to have the lingering smell of smoke. Hotel was lovely, well located and staff very helpful and knowledgeable. Low energy light bulbs and decor of rooms (retro 70s-not my personal taste)made room very dark (bed too soft also -how unreasonable i sound!)Would happily recommend this hotel and would stay there again except for the fact that our non-smoking room was surrounded by ones that had smokers staying in them and unfortunately due to the age of the building (mid 17th century) the smoke could be detected in our room. If you are a smoker this won't bother you.Stairs are VERY steep and narrow!

Excellent hotel which I fully recommend and would happily stay at again. I have rated this hotel with an 8 overall. They could have got those extra 2 points by being quicker with check in but that is the only fault. The building is in a great location for sightseeing, museums and restaurants. Close enough to walk to the Red Light District / Dam Square but not right in that area. We were slightly disappointed as we booked a Canal View Room through this site but then got a phone call 5 minutes later to say that was not available. A shame, but these things happen. Overall, excellent location, good service and nice clean rooms.

For anyone requiring a central location for seeing Amsterdam, this is the place to stay. Anywhere worth visiting is in walking distance of the hotel, but tram and Metro stops are also very close for those are not so keen to walk. The hotel staff are extremely friendly and very helpful. The Hotel does seem to attract the younger clientele. For the drinkers, there is an Irish Bar 10 paces from the Hotel steps.

This was booked as a 4 person room 2 adults 2 teens. It would serve better as a 3 person room as the 4th was a roll away which when set up took up most of the other living quarters. This was actualy a 1 bedroom apartment down the street from the hotel. Worked good as a place to crash. Good location, and easy to get to trams, canal stops. clean , but at the price shouldnot be expected to clean the apartment upon checkout - found this a little anoying, but easy to do.

The staff at reception are incredibly polite, friendly and competent, and all seem to be fluent in about 100 languages. The rooms are small and fairly basic but more than adequate, with TV, mini-bar, bedside lamps, clock radio, writing desk & chair. There are no tea/coffee making facilities provided, but free tea and coffee is available in the lobby on the ground floor in the morning. At times the room was really cold but this seemed easily remedied - the entire hotel seems to be operated by a centralised heating system, which it is up to the reception staff to switch on or off, so they were able to turn it back on immediately after we complained of the cold (we are from Australia so not used to cold weather!) We were at a room at the back of the hotel, for an entire week, including a Friday and Saturday nights - the noise from a pub about 3 houses down was somewhat annoying but didn't prevent us from getting sleep. Free internet downstairs, although there is only 1 computer (but no-one ever seemed to be using it) which is old and slow, but when it's free you can't complain!

My wife and I had a great time in Amsterdam. The hotel has a great location to just about everything within the city. 5-10 min walk tops to almost every part of the city. Big bathroom, comfy bed, plenty of room for the 2 of us. Didnt have a canal view room but it would be a great view if you get one. Right on the Amstel canal, great area, Rembrandt plein not even 1 minute away walking distance. Overall a good stay. The stairs were very steep, so dont get stoned and try to go back to your room...like i did.

Very helpful staff, beautiful rooms, but lots of narrow stairs. But we loved it anyway. Great location, within walking distance of everything!

We stayed at this hotel for three nights. We were very satisfied with the cleanliness of the room, as well as the location of the hotel. As others have mentioned, the stairs are STEEP, so if you have difficulties negotiating stairways, you should not stay at this hotel. We found the staff to be very friendly and for the price we paid, we couldn't have asked for better. :)

Perfect. My girlfriend and I stayed in Amstelzicht for 4 nights and it was great experience. The hotel smells good. The employees are really warm, helpfull and welcoming. The rooms are quite big. Smoking pot in the room is forbidden but there is a coffeeshop right outside.. It s 10 minutes to the action (red light) but it s realy quite. All you need is walk to see all the famous places in Dam, the hotel is very central. I think we ll stay there again if we go to amsterdam again.

We very much enjoyed staying at the Amstelzicht. This is an older building, so the rooms are by no means pristine, but you can't beat the price or the view. Our room was HUGE, and we'd made certain to reserve a canal-side room: we enjoyed uninterrupted water views from the comfort of our bed. The location is also ideal; there is an absolutely amazing restaurant two doors down and around the corner to the right, and the proximity to excellent (and comfortable) coffeeshops is also terrific. The staff is wonderful; although the Venere site claims that there is no concierge, the gentlemen were all most helpful. DO WATCH OUT, though for Amsterdam cab drivers, particularly ones waiting outside of Central Station. Make certain you agree upon a fare before accepting a ride, and get a receipt when you're finished!!

The hotel was central as promised and close to all Amsterdam has to offer. It was my first trip abroad with my girlfriend (we are 21 & 18) and we commented on this when making the booking through Venere. The Hotel were aware of this when we arrived and made us very welcome and made us feel at home. The room was enourmous and with a canal view as requested. It was noisy out side the room but the views were lovely. I would stay here again and recommend the hotel.

....lasciando perdere il fatto, alquanto insolito, che mi si è staccata dal muro la televisione andando in 1000 pezzi l'hotel rispecchia abbastanza il tipo di categoria di alberghetti del centro di Amsterdam...

My husband and I went to Amsterdam for the Thanksgiving Holidays. I must say that the staff is very friendly and welcoming. However on the day we arrived, we had to wait for 5 hours for our room to be ready. Check in time was 1 pm...and that was exactly the time we got our room. Our room was very near to the front desk area and that was at times noisy during the night. The hotel has a very good location though and I would definitely recommend the Rockerji Coffee Shop which is very next door to the hotel.

We were a bit lucky as we were upgraded to a self contained apartment so I wouldn't rely on that happening again, but the apartment was nice, spacious and clean with a CD player and video player. There was a coffee shop on the ground floor which seemed to close at about 5am, so that was a bit noisy, also it sounded like someone was emptying a thousand glass bottles into a bin in the early hours. Staircase up to the room was a bit treacherous but thats what you get in Amsterdam. The location was convenient, halfway between the red light and museum districts and we had a great view of a canal. I would say that I was a bit uneasy about the amount of personal information I had to give on arrival. Overall we had a fantastic weekend and the room aided that, thanks very much!

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights before travelling to Italy. We found the location was excellent, especially if you can get a room with a Canal View. There were lots of wonderful sights within an easy walk, and we were even able to walk to the Centraal Station to catch a train to the airport. I'd recommend this if you can; taxis to this hotel can be expensive, especially if the traffic is bad; expect to pay 55-65 Euro each way. Our stay was very nice all around; this hotel is a wonderful place to experience Amsterdam from.

Good hotel, at 15 minutes walking from the Central Station, the museums and generally from other points of interest. It is just near Rembrandtplein, and overlooking the Amstel. Staff is really kind, and we received quite good suggestions on what to see/how to reach some places. Great keychain, hope next time staff manager will give us one as a gift :)

This property was mis-represented on VENERE website. The hotel is actually a six room apartment with no full time staff or any security. VENERE'S website states that the facility is manned 24 hours, this place had some personnel on or off until 8:00pm at best. Our room overlooked a dimly lit back alley with a several large garbage dumpsters and electric generators clicking and clacking all night long. Parking is hard to get to and a 15 minute walk away. There is no easy way to enter the apartment complex, especially with luggage. There is a locked door at street level and a hallway with another locked door which leads to the unmanned reception area, which leads to the guest room area overlooking the garbage dumpster back alley. THIS IS BY NO MEANS A THREE STAR PROPERTY AS INDICATED IN THE VENERE DESCRIPTION, CLOSER TO A ONE STAR (AT BEST). The property was priced as a three star HOTEL and clearly was misrepresented as such.

This is a very small but nice hotel located in a quiet Amsterdam area. The staff was extremely polite and helpful, and spoke fluent English. The room was large (in comparison to the average size of European hotel rooms) but the bathroom was very small. The room was slightly outdated with worn carpeting and old furniture but relatively clean. Also, there was a minibar sink but that was 'out of order'. In the bath, the sink was perhaps the smallest I've ever seen and would only supply cold water. The bath tub was of average size and the shower did offer hot water. We opted to not have the hotel's breakfast, which was 10 euro per person, so I cannot rate it. A word of warning-- the steps leading up to the rooms are extremely steep and narrow so be careful. Overall, this was a nice hotel to stay at for the price.

Hotel Amstelzicht was, with only a few minor exceptions, an excellent place to stay. The rooms are spacious and the view of the Amstel River is stunning. Hotel staff were friendly and extremely helpful during each encounter. As indicated in other reviews, the stairs in the hotel are quite something. Like many of the small places - coffeshops and restaurants included - the building has a staircase that sprials almost straight up... on very narrow steps. Fortunately, the staff was quick to help with our bags, so we just had to get ourselves up the stairs. Once you get used to navigating them they're not so bad, but those stair cases can be quite a shock when you first see them. Minor complaint: Hot water - we had some difficulty getting enough hot water during our showers. At one point, we took showers using no cold water because the hot water was barely warm enough.

A lovely hotel to stay. Poor that you can't smoke dope in the rooms but open a window and no-one's any the wiser. People seem to complain about the stairs a lot in Amsterdam but that's how houses were built here. Quite fun trying to negotiate near vertical stairs whilst stoned I think. Lovely area just off Rembrandtplein and overlooking the Amstel. Staff very polite and welcoming. Definately recommended.
