I stayed there 1 night. The man in the reception were very nice and helpful. It was easy to get there from the airport with the bus and only 3 min. walk from the busstop. The hotel is in a walking distance to the center of the city and to museums. The beds are small for couples. I got a doubble room as singel so for me it was enough space.

The Hotel staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The room is small, which is typical and not really a problem, and you do hear some noise from other rooms. The one problem we had--and I didn't realize it until it was too late to bring up--was that no one cleaned our room during the day. The breakfast was certainly adequate and we had it included in the price. Had it not been included I would advise people to eat at a local cafe. The location of this hotel simply cannot be beat--it is superb and convenient--among the best possible locations in Amsterdam. Near so many important sites, on a charming street, near the park, a quick walk to canals, etc.

Positive: +1) The location is terrific. Only 5 minutes to Leidseplein, and still a very nice, quiet and beautiful street. +2) The staff is very nice and service-minded. +3) Breakfast is included in price, and is of good quality. Much to choose from, and a very nice garden to eat in. Negative: -1) We booked a triple room but got a small double room with an extra folding bed. A triple room must be more spacious and shall include three normal beds. -2) The days we spent in Amsterdam were extremely hot. The room had no AC, and even though we borrowed a fan it was impossible to get some fresh cooler air in the room, and since room no 6 is on the first floor we couldn't leave the windows open at night.

Small family hotel in quiet street, close of main tram lines. The centre is very easily accessible from here. Rooms are clean, quite small, but absolutely convenient for a few-days accommodation near the city centre. Good price/added-value ratio. Helpful staff, continental breakfast corresponds the price. They charge 4% additional fee in case of credit card payment.

Hotel Alexander is located on a pretty quiet residential street in the museum section of Amsterdam. However, late night revelers could easly be heard through the closed windows. The windows appeared to be double glazed but didn't help with the noise of inconsiderate people. The staff were helpful and pleasant. The location was excellent for my purposes. I had no interest in being near the Dam. Anywhere in Amsterdam can be easily reached on foot or by tram if you prefer not to walk so this location was great. I think my single room was a little pricey for what you get, however, but Amsterdam tends to be expensive.

Small, cold and dark room in the basement with small window on one wall. View straight on the street, we could here people walking outside our window, also we could see their legs : ) Stuff unfriendly, no coffee or tee equipment in the room, each coffee or tee after 1100 cost 2 euro. Dirty towels and ugly bathroom, doesn’t look like 3 star hotel. Good locations.

Quiet Hotel, very close to the city, a big park and the trams. We really had a great time in Amsterdam, a city open for everyone and for all different kinds. When You need to relax go there.

Great, strategic position for this hotel, just out of the ring in a quite area, but very close to Leidsplain and Museumplain, perfect to visit the centre of Amsterdam by walking! The hotel is not very modern, the forniture are nothing expecial but our room was clean and comfortable. A good mention for breakfast, attended in a nice room, with a wide and rich choice, for continental or mediterranean taste both. Good value for money, i suggest this Hotel.

Nice location, very quite and clean rooms. Staff is not so friendly and breakfast is poor. Keep attention to the taxi rates signed on the reception desk: they are wrong and lower than the reality.

This hotel seems better on the internet than in actuality. The first room I was offered was like one long sausage. Uncomfortable, narrow, small bed and cold because the heater had been off. Luckily I was able to change it to a room with a double bed. The room was also small, but at least square / rectangular in shape. The next night I was directed to a room in the basement. Luckily it was dry, warm and also spacious, but you could hear people speaking on the sidewalk, just outside the window. Tolerable for one night, but not more. The internet also said rooms had been recently renovated. That I could not confirm. Yes, bathrooms seemed fairly newly re-done, but otherwise furniture was not new and interiors generally looked like they hadn't been repaired for at least 8 - 10 years. Breakfast was poor - not much selection and on the cheap side. Cheese slices were browning and hard on the edges.

I was pretty impressed with everything that the hotel offered. The only thing that I couldn't find was an ac which I'm not actually sure there was one. But other than that, the hotel staff was friendly and very helpful, the room was very clean and the hotel was on a quieter street but still in a central location, which was very convenient.

The hotel was in an excellent location, very close to museums, restaurants, and public transportation. The room on the 3rd floor (European) was very small but satisfactory for me. There was an elevator that took you to within one flight of the room. The hotel personnel handled my luggage so this was not a problem. There was some hall noise of banging doors, etc. but not excessive. And the elevator made a little noise (it was essentially under part of my room). They had offered me another room after the first night but I declined to move. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They had a computer for guest usage -- a plus. The breakfast was good with meats, cheese and eggs as well as fruit, yogurt, rolls and breads. All in all, I thought it was a good value. The hotel was non-smoking -- also a plus. The only suggestion that I have is that as in most European Hotels there are no hooks on the back of the bathroom door for hanging clothing and not enough towel racks for wet towels, etc. It turned out to be a very pleasant stay.

The Alexander Hotel is in a great location. Just down the street from the Marriott, close to shopping, museums, canal, restaurants etc. The room was clean, the staff helpful, and we really liked the use of the computer/Internet in the lobby. Towels were a bit thin and the breakfast is good, but simple. The steps are steep to enter. Room 18 was a nice quad room with a courtyard view.

The Alexander is an adequate hotel in a great location. The room had areas where the cleaning was superficial (one cobweb strand remained above the bed for all three days of my stay). The external photo was accurate but the internal photos did not correspond especially well. I do not think the hotel was completely renovated recently (as represented). One other annoying item: Nowhere on venere.com or on the hotel website did it say there would be a surcharge for use of a credit card. That was a surprise sprung on guests by a little sign at the reception desk when checking in. No one likes unexpected extra charges. On the plus side, the hotel's breakfast had a wide variety of foods and was very good -- and the staff was pleasant. Also, the location near Vondal Park and right in the center of Amsterdam would be hard to beat for ease of walking to the places of interest in the city. It is on a quiet street in an historic district of the city.

Very nice location, a quiet street nearby Leidsplein with walking distance to the city centre. The breakfast was OK, but don't expect the extravaganca offered at some other hotels. The staff was very helpfull to get my lost luggage back when all I got on the airport was a voice mail.

Staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was fine and everything was 'as advertised'. The location is good too. The hotel is in a quiet street on the edge of the city centre, but within walking distance of all the things people to to Amsterdam to see and do. As someone who spends a lot of time travelling on business and doesn't require all the frills offered by larger hotel chains, I thought the Alexader represented excellent value for money and is one of the better sub-€100 hotels I've stayed in.

I feel it is overpriced - the room was tiny and the bed was the smallest bed I have ever had in a hotel in my life! The funny thing was that when I checked in on day 1 I was told that I would be "upgraded" to another room for the second night. During the first night I had a standard double bed but I was given a pathetic single bed for my second night, pathetic because it was little more than 50cm wide... I would have had more space on a park bench!

Posizione ottima.

We had a quad room with a nice view on the garden. Unfortunately, this room was located just under the reception and breakfast area and it was noisy sometimes. Also, the staff entered into our room 2 times without knocking at the door ... However, we had a nice stay at this hotel. It was very well located near the museums and the heart of the city, and the street was very quiet. Note that this hotel applies a 4 percent tax if you pay with a credit card.

Nice hotel, but narrow halls. Use a map to find the street as the directions are terrible. The A10 is super convenient but the A6 is all that's described & much harder to use. Located right near all the goings on of the main square.

I messaged the hotel with the reservation and told them that I was 2 meters tall and needed a bed big enough. For some reason they put us in a room on the last floor where the roof line made the shower ceiling so low that many poeple could not stand up to take a shower. They would not make any accomodations and made excuses about Amsterdam and space issues. They also said that the hotel was a 3 minute walk from the tram line. 10 minutes is more accurate.

Great location at a good price. Our six person group stayed in a double and a quad. The double wasn't very spacious, but the quad had two double beds and opened up into the property's very nice courtyard garden. Very clean bathrooms. The hotel's a 10 minute walk from the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh museum. The fact that chain hotels like the Marriot and the NH City Center are nearby attests to the good location between Vondelpark and Leidesplein - a busy area with many choices for eating, carousing and shopping - and easily reachable by trams 1, 2 or 5 from Central Station. Pretty fair selection at breakfast, and even if they say it starts at 8am, once they see you in the lobby they'll lay it out, which is a good enough indication of the quality of their service. My only minor service issue is that housekeeping, intent on returning the bathroom shower curtain they had removed, knocked then entered without waiting for me to get dressed! Guess the Dutch don't mind.

Only two issues: 1) room doors are heavy and bang noisily when closed. Annoying when late/early. 2) No glass/drinking vessel supplied in the room/bathroom (not even a thin plastic cup). Otherwise a very good hotel. However, I prefer to stay elsewhere, due to the noise problem. I have returned once, but only because my preferred hotel was full.

It was not mentioned that the price will be higher when paid by credit card. It should be noted on the site so that I could prepare cash. The shower did not drain and the water spread all over the bathroom. This problem was solved immediately, but was surprising. First night, I had a backache cleaning up the bathroom! Some at the reception was very friendly and helpful, but the man at the check out did not speak English well and was not helpful.

On a quiet part of Vondelstraat, excellent location, easy walk to museums and Leidseplein, friendly and helpful people. Small room. Nice breakfast. WiFi (free). Lift was not working all 4 days of our stay, so had to huff and puff up and down. Not so great when hauling bags and luggage. Overall, a pretty good place to stay.
