The hotel is very tired and warn. The double bed was broken and the slats were tied together with wire. We were looking for a budget hotel but the website made it look a lot better than it was. The room was clean but that is about the only positive point, apart from the location which was excellent.

The location of the hotel is pretty good. It is near almost every tourist sightseeing in Amsterdam. It is possible to go anywhere just by walking. However, the hotel had no elevators at all, which can be a big deal if you have heavy and/or big baggage, the room was a bit small and the bathroom was ridiculously tiny. It was very hard to take a shower in that bathroom. Last but not least, the rooms were EXTREMELY DIRTY! And even though the staff would come to change the sheet and all, they wouldn't clean do room! I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.

I stayed here with a friend and came to Amsterdam to enjoy the city’s most beautiful sights! Therefore I was happy with this hotel, which had an amazing location with publictransport just outside the door. Also a nice thing about this hotel is that is is owned by a family, which makes the hotel cozy, warm and the staff very helpful. It was no trouble to recommend us a restaurant in the neighbourhood (there are plenty of them). All together: it was a great trip and we enjoyed the ajax hotel very much!

The hotel has an amazing location as do other reviewers point out (an they are right!!). This was the hotels best asset! Further more, they gave us free breakfast and a quite and comfortable room. The personnel was really friendly and helps us getting around in Amsterdam! We were really satisfied and would recommend you to stay in this hotel for a citytrip and to have a good night sleep!

The hotel has an excellent position on the Rokin. This puts it close to Rembrandt Plaza and Red light district, without being right in the noisy areas. Lots of trams stop right outside, which makes it easy to get to museums, central station and other places if you don't like walking. The hotel is on first floor and steps are steep, but it has 24 hour reception and a very nice breakfast room where you can also sit in the day, overlooking the canal. Breakfast was your normal continental affair but well presented, with lots of coffee available. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms are what you expect, reasonably large and quite comfortable with a crowded bathroom. Beds were very good. Only downsides were lack of extra pillows that made sitting on bed difficult, and erratic heating.

The Ajax was our low point in five weeks of travel in Europe. The halls smelled very clean and antiseptic upon our arrival and the staff was very helpful and friendly, but they are working on a very tight budget and our room was nowhere near those shown in the photos. The room was small with furniture which looked like it was bought at a yard sale, crammed into corners where it wasn't even usable. Old screw holes in the walls weren't patched, just painted over. Hot water heat has been added in each room; exposed piping done with very poor workmanship running across the walls and ceiling. The bathroom was tiny, the space in front of the toilet to the wall was 7 or 8 inches; you literally had to sit sideways to use it.The tilework was sloppy and looked dirty; again exposed piping. Overall it was a very depressing experience. We wouldn't go back or recommend it to anyone.

The hotel may not be great, but it is satisfactory for it's price. We stayed in Amsterdam for a week in hotel Ajax and paid about 80 euros a day. The location of the hotel couldn't be better - It is exactly in the middle of everything (about 20 minute walk to the Van Gogh museum, which is the furthest away). The room is very small but was enough for us (as we didn't go all the way to Amsterdam to sit in our room all day...). The beds are separate and pulled together (not quite so successfully...), the bathroom is new - hot water availiable at all times. Had some trouble with the heating but the manager fixed it as soon as we said something - the staff is very very nice - some of them are quite clueless (the night shift people) but the manager and his dughter (there in the mornings) are wonderful. The rooms don't actually have a safe (or some of them do - like our room - but the safes work on batteries that tend to fall out or get stuck or something, and the manager soesn't have the spare key...). Kinda bothered me at first but we had NO trouble with our stuff. The room has no minibar of fridge (which bothered me quite a lot more). No free wifi - costs 8 euros a day (way too much...)/ In conclusion - may not be the best hotel, but definatly worth the money we paid for it!

Ihave stayed in Amsterdam 4 or 5 times and can say that my time in the hotel was not the most pleasant. The beds were comfortable and the water hot but the room was minute for three people and its cleanliness left something to be desired. I would not recommend it to anyone. There were blankets but Heaven only knows when they were last washed by the look of them. I was not pleased as I had been given the impression that the rooms were more spacious. The shower room smelled; probably because there is no fan in the room. We did complain on two occasions but were given any satisfaction. I believe the owner knew that we were only there for a few days and then we would be gone and forgotten.

Central location for sightseeing (noise from the street),small double room, not much room for storage, basic clean accommodation, adequate breakfast. The staff failed to fix a problem with the toilet during the 4 days that we stayed there. Steep stairs, not suitable for families with young children and buggies or anyone who has a problem with stairs.

We stayed in Amsterdam for two nights and wanted to find a good compromise between price and location...the location is really good and the price is a bit expensive for the quality of the service (Amsterdam is really expensive). The room was tiny with 2 beds instead of a double and the door of the toilet was broken and hard to close. The hotel does not have a car park and we used a service suggested by the receptionist: basically a company called car hotel pick up your car and is supposed to give it back to you on the day of your departure for half price you pay in a private car park...that would be great, but the problem for us was that the emplyees of the company were not professional at all and when they gave us the car back we found out that the engine of the clutch of the car was broken! we had to pay 600 euros to fix it and still waiting for a refund from the company. thus I suggest everybody to avoid that kind of service!!

One cannot sit down on a toilet and close the door for privacy because the room is so ill-configured. Upon arrival, we had to put water on the floor and wipe it and black soot was all over the towel we used to clean the floor with. One day our room was not cleaned. The hotel is located on the second floor of a building. There is no elevator or lift in the hotel. The drapes in the room and bed linens looked like they had not been replaced or cleaned in years. If the Ajax is representative of a two star hotel, then we will never stay at a two star hotel again.

Punto a favore: l'hotel e' centralissimo e tutto e' facilmente raggiugibile a piedi.

Breakfast not so rich but not so bad, very good reception! The hotel is well located and it is only a few minutes walk from there to most places we wanted to go to. We would stay there again on our next visit to Amsterdam.

The Hotel room had a broken toilet with used tissue in it when we arrived, there was thick dust on the window sill and there were 'stains' on the bed sheets. The place smelt and was dirty. We moved rooms to find the same level of cleanliness, and a view of a brick wall.We were also placed under a staircase so could constantly hear people arriving and leaving.

The rooms were very small but they were clean and very warm.We booked 4 double rooms but when we arrived 1 was a twin. The breakfast waas limited but very nice. On the whole we would recommend for a short stay but 2 nights was enough.

The room was tiny, the bathroom even smaller. Not even possible to stand at the sink as the toilet was in the way. No where to sit in the room, other than on the bed. No tea/coffee making facilities, no telephone. There was no view from the window, just a stone wall facing you which was so high it was impossible to see either the sky or the ground. Very noisy room as we were located next to what appeared to be the cleaning area, full of dirty towels, etc. Walls were so thin you could hear keys turning in locks, other guests snoring, etc. We were also unfortunate enough for the people in the upstairs room to forget to turn their bath off resulting in water flooding through our ceiling at 3.30 in the morning! No other rooms were free to relocate to and no refund was offered. Even after all that though, Amsterdam is such a wicked place that the awfulness of this hotel could not spoil our stay. We can't wait to return, but won't be staying at the Ajax next time!!!!!

The hotel Ajax is probably the most uninviting and inhospitable hotel we have stayed in. On the bright side it encouraged us to see more of Amsterdam, as we dreaded going back to our hotel room.

Photos and description of rooms were alittle misleading as our room was not like the pictures and we could not get a front view of the canal. Hotel is above a shop, which we didn't realise, and there is a very steep staircase up to the first floor, so if you have problems with stairs, this is not for you. Breakfast was good and there was a varity of cereal, bread, cheese, ham and jams. Enough to fill you up for the morning. Shower was hard to get on as thread was worn on knob, and tv didn't work in first room we were in ( we changed rooms, not because of tv, but because of view; all we could see was the air conditioning unit! ) Apart from this, it was a good stay, and staff are friendly. Hotel well positioned for all sightseeing ( we walked everywhere ) and about 15 mins walk from railway station.

We booked x2 double room, we did arrive early at our hotel, therefore we did not expect rooms to be ready, however one was. we were allowed to put our suitcases in this room while we explored Amsterdam for a while. We were informed that the other room would be ready in 1Hour. We returned back to our room some 4 hours later to find it had still not been cleaned. In the room my husband and I shared, we had to sit sideways on the lavatory as our legs would not comfortably fit between the toilet and the wall. Amsterdam was really great, will visit again, would not stay in the Ajax hotel though.

The best aspect of this hotel is its location- its in the centre of Amsterdam, within walking distance of all sites. The worst aspect is the noise- both from the fellow guests (wooden floors so you hear everybody coming in and going out) as well as from the trams/traffic outside- as Rokin is the main street in Amsterdam. The room that we had was also very small with NO view- in fact we looked out on a blank wall about 1 m from the window. Otherwise the room were very very clean, with new towels every morning and the staff is also tremendously friendly- both very important positives of your stay here. The price? I would think for the overall quality they must charge less- but the location is excellent so maybe one pays for the location.

I booked two rooms, a double and a triple, but when I arrived the Hotel had reserved a room for 5 (with a really small bathroom). The worst thing was that the price wa even higher than the one agreed: we felt really uncomfortable.

The hotel was just down the road from Dam Square, loads of shops, bars and coffee houses! The guys at the hotel were really friendly, even keeping our luggage locked up for the day and ordering a taxi for us in the evening. We'd all stay at the ajax again, it's really cheap and and cheerfull!
