enjoyed my stay at the Ajax Hotel very much. The location is perfect and the room was exactly as expected. Amsterdam is a beautiful city and this was one of the best 2star hotels I stayed at.

Central location for sightseeing (noise from the street),small double room, not much room for storage, basic clean accommodation, adequate breakfast. The staff failed to fix a problem with the toilet during the 4 days that we stayed there. Steep stairs, not suitable for families with young children and buggies or anyone who has a problem with stairs.

We stayed in Amsterdam for two nights and wanted to find a good compromise between price and location...the location is really good and the price is a bit expensive for the quality of the service (Amsterdam is really expensive). The room was tiny with 2 beds instead of a double and the door of the toilet was broken and hard to close. The hotel does not have a car park and we used a service suggested by the receptionist: basically a company called car hotel pick up your car and is supposed to give it back to you on the day of your departure for half price you pay in a private car park...that would be great, but the problem for us was that the emplyees of the company were not professional at all and when they gave us the car back we found out that the engine of the clutch of the car was broken! we had to pay 600 euros to fix it and still waiting for a refund from the company. thus I suggest everybody to avoid that kind of service!!

The location is perfect. This is the first hotel I stayed in that really was central as it quoted on the website. I didn't need trams or long walks, everything I wanted was nearby. The staff behind the reception was always helpful.

My stay at Hotel Ajax was great and worth every penny I paid. Almost anywhere I wanted to go was just around the corner or at least within walking distance. The location is perfect!!! The staff was friendly and helpful and I even got a free map! The room I stayed in was nice and cozy. I will definitely recommend this hotel to my friends.

the tv dated from the early 1980s, our room was supposed to be a triple, but it was actually just a double with an extra bed thrown in it. it was difficult to take a shower as the bathroom was very small and some cowboy obviously renovated the room as the quality of the work done was very poor. otherwise, the location is good.

hi i stayed here with a friend for one night in middle of january 2008. The location is excellent it has to be said. Howevr i would not recommend this hotel for anyone with a walking problems or families with children as the stair are very very very steep. We has problem with our case ans we are in our early 20's. The rooms are basic nothing special breakfast was ok. For a one night stay i would recommend this hotel, i would recommend a longer stay only if you are ok with basic.

One cannot sit down on a toilet and close the door for privacy because the room is so ill-configured. Upon arrival, we had to put water on the floor and wipe it and black soot was all over the towel we used to clean the floor with. One day our room was not cleaned. The hotel is located on the second floor of a building. There is no elevator or lift in the hotel. The drapes in the room and bed linens looked like they had not been replaced or cleaned in years. If the Ajax is representative of a two star hotel, then we will never stay at a two star hotel again.

I will never again go there as well as I will not recommend to anyone to go in this hotel. 1.paying in advance for the whole stay in the hotel. I came in the hotel, not in the red light district 2.price indicated was not price what I paid 3.no electricity in the hotel for the whole day 4.room in the rotten state 5.no light in the bathroom 6.once found room opened 7.tv set broken 8.no batteries in the remote controller of tv set 9.unpleasant guy at the reception desk 10.I have ask to speak with the hotel manager but he did not want to call for him Total overview: accomodation like in a stone age (cave environment)

this was the most disguisting place i have ever stayed. There was blood on the walls, the toilet paper and the shower were broken and i left the hotel absolotly covered in flea bites. Disguisting!! Internet said we got a free breakfast in the morning, didn't stick around to find out how bad that was too!!

I really liked the location of the hotel. It was in the middle of the city centre and anything I wanted to do in Amsterdam was within walking distance from the hotel. The room I stayed was clean. The staff was really friendly and did everything they could to make my stay as comfortable as possible. I recommend this hotel if you come to Amsterdam.

Room 106 smelled of damp, in Sweden you wouldn´t be allowed to rent it out. But we got another room. We paid 150E /night x 5, and we know that the last days they charged 85E, so don´t book your rooms in advance, it´s more expensive

The hotel's location is excellent, the room was clean, however, we stayed in a 3-persons room that was actually a 2-persons room with an extra bed, thus it was too small, still, we had a great time!!

Arnaque.

Punto a favore: l'hotel e' centralissimo e tutto e' facilmente raggiugibile a piedi.

we were in the center of amsterdam! just two step to reach central station, clubs and pubs, restaurants,a street full of shops, clubs and red light district! Near the hotel, bus and tram stop for everywhere, we visited every museum without walking too much. Room and bathroom aren't so big, but all i have seen in amsterdam were small. Breakfast not so rich but not so bad, very good reception!

When I left your hotel my wife and I went to Paris. We had a room 3 blocks fron Notre Dame Cathedral at hotel De Grande Ecole for $105.00 euros per night. There is no comparison between Ajax and this hotel as to price, location, etc. I have learned that I will never book a room through the internet ever again. My wife and I had invited my cousin and her husband to stay with us at Ajax as they live in the Hague but when they saw the room and the location they refused. My wife and I were not impressed

The pictures on this site make this hotel look very nice, however in real life it was not was that smart. On the negative side the room was very small and the toilet didn't always flush. That said we enjoyed our stay there. The beds were comfy and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is well located and it is only a few minutes walk from there to most places we wanted to go to. We would stay there again on our next visit to Amsterdam.

The Hotel room had a broken toilet with used tissue in it when we arrived, there was thick dust on the window sill and there were 'stains' on the bed sheets. The place smelt and was dirty. We moved rooms to find the same level of cleanliness, and a view of a brick wall.We were also placed under a staircase so could constantly hear people arriving and leaving.

The rooms were very small but they were clean and very warm.We booked 4 double rooms but when we arrived 1 was a twin. The breakfast waas limited but very nice. On the whole we would recommend for a short stay but 2 nights was enough.
Heterosexual Couple
United Kingdom, Nov 2003
The room was tiny, the bathroom even smaller. Not even possible to stand at the sink as the toilet was in the way. No where to sit in the room, other than on the bed. No tea/coffee making facilities, no telephone. There was no view from the window, just a stone wall facing you which was so high it was impossible to see either the sky or the ground. Very noisy room as we were located next to what appeared to be the cleaning area, full of dirty towels, etc. Walls were so thin you could hear keys turning in locks, other guests snoring, etc. We were also unfortunate enough for the people in the upstairs room to forget to turn their bath off resulting in water flooding through our ceiling at 3.30 in the morning! No other rooms were free to relocate to and no refund was offered. Even after all that though, Amsterdam is such a wicked place that the awfulness of this hotel could not spoil our stay. We can't wait to return, but won't be staying at the Ajax next time!!!!!
Heterosexual Couple

The hotel Ajax is probably the most uninviting and inhospitable hotel we have stayed in. On the bright side it encouraged us to see more of Amsterdam, as we dreaded going back to our hotel room.
Heterosexual Couple
United Kingdom, Oct 2003
Photos and description of rooms were alittle misleading as our room was not like the pictures and we could not get a front view of the canal. Hotel is above a shop, which we didn't realise, and there is a very steep staircase up to the first floor, so if you have problems with stairs, this is not for you. Breakfast was good and there was a varity of cereal, bread, cheese, ham and jams. Enough to fill you up for the morning. Shower was hard to get on as thread was worn on knob, and tv didn't work in first room we were in ( we changed rooms, not because of tv, but because of view; all we could see was the air conditioning unit! ) Apart from this, it was a good stay, and staff are friendly. Hotel well positioned for all sightseeing ( we walked everywhere ) and about 15 mins walk from railway station.

We booked x2 double room, we did arrive early at our hotel, therefore we did not expect rooms to be ready, however one was. we were allowed to put our suitcases in this room while we explored Amsterdam for a while. We were informed that the other room would be ready in 1Hour. We returned back to our room some 4 hours later to find it had still not been cleaned. In the room my husband and I shared, we had to sit sideways on the lavatory as our legs would not comfortably fit between the toilet and the wall. Amsterdam was really great, will visit again, would not stay in the Ajax hotel though.

The best aspect of this hotel is its location- its in the centre of Amsterdam, within walking distance of all sites. The worst aspect is the noise- both from the fellow guests (wooden floors so you hear everybody coming in and going out) as well as from the trams/traffic outside- as Rokin is the main street in Amsterdam. The room that we had was also very small with NO view- in fact we looked out on a blank wall about 1 m from the window. Otherwise the room were very very clean, with new towels every morning and the staff is also tremendously friendly- both very important positives of your stay here. The price? I would think for the overall quality they must charge less- but the location is excellent so maybe one pays for the location.
