We were in Amsterdam to visit the City, which is unique and a very nice, clean and safe city. The public transport is excellent and arrives always in time. The museums are very good but the prices of entrance are big.In every week-end there are many cultural events.I like Amsterdam and I will come again.

Single bed in room just two and a half feet wider, and ends of bed hitting the window wall and bathroom wall. Um, I did not complain about the leaking toilet plumbing that wet the floor after I flush, nor the facial hair still in the tiny & tricky shower tub left from the prior guest. It was a room facing the main street and Sarphatipark, on the third floor with trees providing privacy - so I didn't really want to move. Enjoyed the t.v. in room. Saw the back patio which was quite nice and parklike. Cute boutique (shops/restaurants) neighborhood a block and half away at side of park. Flea market there was a nice discovery. 30 mins walk to center of town, 45 mins walk to Van Gogh Museum, 1+ hr walk to Anne Frank House. Not central, but makes for nice walks and discoveries, and good on the pocketbook.

The hotel was everything we needed and at one of the lowest costs in Amsterdam for the period of travel (summer 2009). Most hostels cost more than the price of this hotel. The hotel is a 15 minute walk from the centre of the city at Leidseplein - a beautiful walk along the canal. Failing that you can get a tram which will get you there in 5 minutes. There are lots of nice and chic bars and restaurants in the Pijp area which is where this hotel is situated. The price and quality were a good match. The room was very small but it had everything we needed, after all we were only sleeping there! I would recommend the hotel to people wanting to upgrade from hostels for better quality and the same price!

The hotel is nice if your stay is not for more than 1 night. Then, not being able to take a shower becomes a problem... The shower is so small I had to clean my hair in the sink. The room was small but tidy and the beds comfortable. It's a pitty the shower was that bad.

**PRIMA DI GIRARE LA CITTA', RECATEVI NEL BAR DELL'HOTEL E RACCOGLIETE TUTTI I BIGLIETTI DA VISITA ESPOSTI IN BACHECA...LA MAGGIOR PARTE SONO SCONTI PER I NEGOZI IN CENTRO E PER I MUSEI!!** Ultimo consiglio....andate a provare l'Heineken Experience (900 metri dall'hotel)!! Non ve ne pentirete!! ;)

The staff were really lovely, helpful and open minded(especially the main guy who maintains the fish tank). Location was fine, especially for people who like a stroll. But the rooms themselves left a lot to be desired. Being Amsterdam of course, our room reeked strongly of marijuana and it took a while to get used to it. Also, the bathrooms in no way matched the hotel pictures, even though we paid for a double. This was room no. 3 on the first floor.

Second time we've stayed here, last time they gave us a triple as they were quiet but this time we stuck to the double we'd booked as the hotel was very busy. Much smaller room but totally adequate for our needs and as always we were impressed by the friendliness of the staff and the very decent breakfast. We'll be coming back again later in the year for sure. Half an hour walk into the centre or just a short ride on the tram so accessible for everywhere and very near the Heineken museum too. Make sure yuo take advantage of the discount vouchers they put in the breakfast room!

The hotel is perfect for a short trip to Amsterdam. Good connection to the tram system the Albert-Cuyp-market and there is also a supermarket near the hotel. The rooms are very small but for a city trip its good. The breakfast is not included and with 9€ per day expensive. The hotel staff is friendly. All in all its more suitable for young and thin people (because of the narrow toilet room ;-).

heineken factory is about 10 min walk, cuyp straat market only 2 minutes walk, on the opposite side of sharpati park. also the museum square is not far. centraal station for trains that go to the airport is only 10 min by tram, you can take number 25 tram service in front of the hotel. we booked a double standard, it was a plain room, but very big and nicely clean. the bathroom was also big and equipped with the esentials.

1. Although I had requested a non-smoking room, when I arrived I was given a smoking room. After complaining, I was then given a non-smoking room. 2. The receptionist was unable to provide me with a proper VAT receipt: he could only produce a statement of account. I am sure this was through incompetence rather than any system inadequacies. 3. When I checked in, I was charged E9 p.d. for breakfast. The website had previously advised that breakfast was included in the rate. However, the receptionist pointed out that in the small print on my confirmation printout it did mention that "Starting from 01 October, breakfast will be subject to an extra charge of €9,00 per person". I noticed that the receptionist tried to charge another couple the €9, but they resisted and there was nothing on their confirmation of booking that mentioned the charge. The receptionist then said that the charge applied for some agents and not for others. It all felt somewhat underhand. 4. A few bulbs needed to be replaced in the room. 5. As some other reviewers have mentioned, the stairs are UNBELIEVEABLY steep: almost ladder-like (but there is a lift). 6. The breakfast room was functional but very basic. The breakfast itself was OK, but at E9 didn't really feel value for money.

We were very happy with Aalborg Hotel. We found our room spacious, unlike some of the other reviewers here (but I think we were lucky - we got a triple room for the price of a double). Breakfast was good, free internet was useful, staff were always pleasant. Location was a fair walk from the heart of town but there are nice cafes and restaurants around and it is not too far from the cultural centre (Van Gogh museum, Rijksmuseum, Concertgebouw etc).

The room was VERY small what suprised me as the rooms on the hotel's website are rather big. I couldnt park my car as there was no space on the street and garage which, according to the staff is always available was full. So, at 3 in the morning I couldn't park my car and the member of staff didn't seem to be very helpful. If you have a car to park, it can be rather stresful experience, next time I would look for some other hotel.

Excellent situation, just opposite Sarphati Park, walking distance to Cuyp market, Leidseplein and Vondelpark. My room was v-e-r-y small and showed to the street, but I saw rooms in that hotel that were quieter and much more spacious. I liked the staff, the breakfast and the service of a public internet access free of charge. I´d go there again.

We (family with teenagers) just spent 6 nights at this hotel, and would definitely stay again. Compared to other 3-star hotels in Amsterdam, it is fair value for money. We were in room 35 (the quad) which has a small balcony, situated at the back of the hotel and is therefore very quiet. The staff were overall very friendly, nothing was too much trouble, and the advice we were given was always good. It's true the location is not near the centre, but the plus point is a quieter neighbourhood which feels safe. The only minor negative remarks we would make are the beds (2 single, 1 pull-down small single, 1 sofabed) which were not that confortable, despite excellent new and clean pillows and duvets, and the shower which cannot be described as powerful. Overall a good experience which contributed to make our stay in Amsterdam enjoyable.

Hotel is expensive for the small space that the room offers. There was no hot water for some days without any reason. Phone calls could not be done since the room, I had to go downstairs to make a call. Internet service was very slow with only 1 computer in a very small area where check out luggage is stored. I would rate this hotel as 1 star (not 3). I came back to Amsterdam days later and stayed in different hotel not Aalborg for sure.

Typical of all mid-price Amsterdam hotels, the stairs are steep and rooms small. The hotel has a lift (elevator) with no internal door not uncommon, but it still doesn't mean I have to like them. The bed was comfortable and bsthroom modern. Nice LCD TV set. Room was pleasant enough, but I would hate to stay in winter. Window frame looked as though it would let in lots of draughts. Staff obliging. I had to leave early one morning before breafast was served and the staff arranged in advance for me to get an early breakfast. Annoying features - Not much drawer space to unpack, and nowhere really to put a suitcase to live out of. It was somewhere to sleep and shower. Digital alarm clock that needed to be reset every time I left the room because removing the key from the holder switched off the electricity. Had to unplug the TV to be able to plug in my phone charger - shortage of plug sockets.

On arrival reception was poorly staffed. The rest of the ground floor was a building site. 24 hour Reception but when I returned to my room at 21:30 it was not staffed. Ran a bath and realised there were no towels in my room. It was now 22:00, no one answered phone in Reception so it was still not staffed. Visited Reception, not staffed, phone off the hook. Walked into the building site (breakfast room) no one, walked through door near Reception which I took to be staff, called and knocked on doors....nothing! Went back through to Reception, no bell to push and noted phone was off the hook. Walked behind Reception desk, took a piece of paper from fax and wrote a note requesting towels. Looked up and saw a young man glowering at me through a glass door. He was surly and asked me why I was behind the desk, he must have asked me this 6 times and each time I told him, I had no towels, reception was not staffed, no one answered the phone because it was off the hook, I had paid for my room, I had been travelling since 08:00 that morning. He said there had been a fire alarm and I told him I didn't believe him and why would he take the phone off the hook if there was. He suddenly seemed to realise that I was not going to back down and told me he would be with me in a few seconds. I returned to my room and he turned up with the towels a few minutes later. The room was neat and tidy but like a passage and so tiny I felt I was in a cell. Because there was no breakfast room my breakfast was brought by room service, I asked for it at 08:00 and it arrived about 08:05. So glad that had only booked in for one night, couldn't get out of this hotel fast enough! Would NOT recommend.
