Old Hotel in very central position. you had to leave the key everytime you went out so it was usual to wait always for the receptionist to be free. new reception but structure is old and I think it is a high price for the services offered. The founders called it FENICE for VENICE and people working there neither doesn't know how Venice is written in English (or Italian).....

The hotel was marketed as a 4-star, which sets travelers expectations toward a classy place. If Dikker marketed themselves for what they are, a 3 star no frills, very budget hotel, then travelers would not be disappointed. The location was good. All the rest is worth forgetting. The night receptionish acted like I was the first to ever ask if the trams out front connected to the main train station and made it a big deal that he would have to check that on the internet. In the end, I asked a local on the street who knew instantly.

The staff were wonderful but: Way over priced. This was an okay room for 2/3rd the price. The street outside is very noisy both from the tram and from the loud students singing songs until 2:00 in the morning (3 of the 5 nights we stayed). No stopper in the bathtub (they provided one right away) Bathroom door squeaked and would not close (they fixed it) Extra charge of 15 Euros for breakfast (we did not take them up on it)

The hotel is not cheap, but worth the price considering it's in central Amsterdam. We had a lovely spacious room with view on the chanel. Close to many attractions, restaurants, pubs, shops and tramstop. We had a small issue with a dirty, smelly cushion, but otherwise it was neat and clean with helpful staff.

Very nice Hotel, with very spacious and clean rooms. Quietness of the room can't really be rated since you're in the center of Amsterdam. If you have a window facing the streets, you're going to have noise. Location is great. Only downside is that breakfast wasn't included.

Basically, we couldn't have been happier with the hotel or its location - especially given that we like to walk. The hotel staff members are quite friendly and all that we encountered speak English. The hotel is about 300 yards from the Leidseplein (a nice square with restaurant patios and people galore)and a tourist information office. The 197 airport bus stops at the Leidseplein (costs 4 Euros). A central sign outside the Schipol arrivals building lists buses that stop there and what bus stops at what bus stand. Walking from the hotel will get you to: the Rijksmuseum in about 20 minutes; 25 min to the Van Gogh Museum; 15 min to the Vondelpark (beautiful parkland); 20 min to Anne Frank House; 30+ min to Dam Square and the Red Light district. A tram ticket is nice to have but not really needed if you like walking (unless you don't have much time). Across the Leidsestraat is a shop that sells croisants etc.; and about a block further along Prinsengracht, runs a street with lots of inexpensive restaurants. The Haesjeclaes restaurant at Spuistraat 275 (about a 15 min walk from the hotel)is a more-expensive alternative but well worth the cost and walk. Making a reservation is a good idea unless you want to risk not getting in or having to wait half an hour. Although the hotel provides safety deposit boxes at the reception area, a lost key results in what I consider to be a very expensive charge (something like 500 Euro if I'm not mistaken). So, my wish list for the hotel is that it put safes in its rooms. The I amsterdam City Card allows entry into various museums and includes a tram pass and a canal cruise. It can be worth the cost (49 Euros for 48 hours) depending upon how much it is used. Assuming that the Dikker's prices remain competitive, we'd definitely stay at the hotel again.

Bar was closed for refurbishment throughout our stay. No restaurant meals apart from breakfast which was a bit pricey (though we were told about a cheaper option). The hotel staff were uniformly excellent, moved us to a quieter room, carried all our luggage on arrival, departure and room change and gave very good advice about using local transport, finding good restaurants and using their computer to print boarding passes for our flights home. Great location. Highly recommended. Would stay there again.

We booked a standard room but were given a superior room at the original price. Our room was HUGE and overlooked the canal. There was a choice of two breakfasts: "full" and "small". The "full" breakfast, although rather expensive, was excellent. It seemed to us to be better value than the "small" one. We liked the hotel and the area - we would like to stay here again one day.

Could not ask for a better location. Tram stopped right at the hotel from Centraal Station. Restaurants and bars a minute away. We had a huge corner room with a view of the canal from both sides and a small terrace you could stand on. Ask for room 503. Room was very quiet considering the great location. Anything you want to see is no more than a 10 min walk from the hotel. We will be staying here again.

This was a great 4 star hotel in Amsterdam. Excellent location! Clean, comfortable room with flat screen TV, phone, full bath, large windows, desk, wardrobe, and comfortable bed. We stayed in a room on the 4th floor on the back of the hotel, which doesn't give any spectacular views except rooftops, but is relatively quiet compared to the street side. I didn't ask about other rooms. Staff was professional. The 13 Euro breakfast sounds expensive, but was reasonable for a quick and complete European continental breakfast (meats, cheeses, breads, cereal, yogurt, boiled eggs, coffee/tea) for the location. If you're looking for good food or a cafe to sit by the canal in the area, just walk to the West a couple blocks. Rakang Thai was excellent. Het Molenpad cafe was great too.

I can highly recommend this hotel. My only rating below 10 is concerning the quietness of rooms. We had an absolutely wonderful stay in this adorable hotel suitable for any kind of traveller. The location is perfect in walking distance to the museum area and numerous shopping areas. Overlooking the canal Prinsengracht or the shopping street Leidsestraat - or both - you have a nice view in either direction. The rooms are not completely quiet - you hear the trams, now and then some cars and people from the street, but we found it cozy to listen to. Our room was very spacious, clean and very nicely furnished, we simply had good times. (But the pillows are completely crazy though ...) Friendly staff too. And ladies ... If in any interest, don´t miss: Museum of Bags and Purses (Opened in 2007) http://www.tassenmuseum.nl in Herengracht 573 - not even in 10 min. walking distance. And gentlemen ... Find a koffieshop as long as it takes.

I've been in Amsterdam in other 4 hotels. The specific point concerning this one is the ubication, close to Leidseplein. If you have a room with a view to Leidstraat, you will hear people getting around Leidstraat almost all night long during weekends. Furthermore, the tram passes also through Leidstraat. That's my main complain: too noisy.

If you want location, this is the place! The Dikker & Thijs Hotel is 2 blocks from Leidseplein, a magnet for restaurants (many!) and evening entertainment (the Bulldog Café). It is 30 yards from a tram stop (4 different tram lines that take you right to Dam Square, Centraal Station, etc.). It's also located on a Canal (the Prinsengracht) -- we had a beautiful view of the Canal from our room. The staff spoke English perfectly and were very helpful in every way. I want to go back already!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It was conveniently located to get to the hop-on, hop-off canal cruise which took us everywhere we wanted to go in the city. The major complaint we had was that it is in a very noisy area, especially at night. Because there is no airconditioning, we had to leave the windows open to keep the room cool enough to sleep, and the noise was non-stop until about 6 a.m each day we were there,

We stayed here for 2 nights in August, in 2 different rooms. The first room itself was very nice but was at the back of the building (room 301), thus overlooking an internal service courtyard and facing an air conditioning unit. On asking for a room with a view (any view would be nice!) we were told there were none available and to ask again in the morning. We also discovered the bathroom had a leaky tap which dripped all night (ok, once the door was shut, but it was hot water so it steamed up the bathroom!) Because it was leaking from the wall, when using the shower there wasn't much more than a dribble of water coming out of it. We told reception about it the next morning when asking again for another room. The male receptionist was perfectly polite, but probably not the warmest person I've come across. I suspect we got a good room because the owner was hovering over the receptionist – we were delighted with our new room, much bigger and with a balcony set into the roof overlooking the rooftops and canal. The bathroom had been refurbished, had a power shower and a large window. This was room 504, and judging by the fire escape floorplan on the door, one of the biggest rooms, apart from the penthouse. Would definitely stay here again if we had that room! Location was good near Leidesplein. We walked everywhere, but there is a tram stop right outside and lots of bars and restaurants within minutes of walking. The museums are about 15-20 mins walk, Red Light district approx 30mins, flower market on Singel 10-15 mins. Breakfast wasn't included, but was quite expensive at €12.50 each so we went to nearby cafes. There's a nice bar in the hotel but it was always empty so we never used it. Never even saw staff in there but it appeared to be open when we wandered in, with music playing!

First thing, get off the tram (nos 1,2 and 5) at the Prinzengracht stop (just before Leidesplien stop) and you are right beside the hotel! The hotel is clean and the staff are very friendly and it is only a 10 minute tram ride / 20 minute walk from the Centraal Station. The hotel is just 5 minutes from a main shopping area, near to attractions (Bols experience, Heineken Museum, Rijks Museum etc) and is close to transport stops (tram and canal boats). I didn't try the breakfast as I thought 12 Euros was a bit pricey, but there is a bakery right across the street and another further up to buy croissants etc. The Leidesplien area is full of excellent restaurants and bars and is popular will all ages, although this can lead to some noise outside the hotel in the early hours. Check out the jazz bar for live performances. Amsterdam is a small city and so I found everthing is within walking distance, with numerous cafes/bars to stop for a rest. I found the people were friendly and it was safe no matter where I walked.

There is no way this is a four star property! The air conditioning is only on the first floor, so the higher floors are hot. The lift only works when the outer doors are closed properly on all floors. There are no in-room safes. The shower sprays in all directions and floods the bathroom. The noise around the hotel is loud and because it's so hot, the windows have to be open to it. The worst part is the hotel employees and manager assume that any complaint is due to the ethnocentric ugly American instead of from a person who has traveled widely in Europe and who knows when a hotel is substandard compared to the advertisement for it.

Overall a good hotel, but the 4-star rating, although "official", is misleading. Compared to French standard, this would rather be a 2- to 3-star hotel. The room was OK but nowhere near 4-star standards. Overall, Amsterdam prices are pretty high. If you choose this hotel, beware that the price pays you a central location, but not an incredible room.

Another memorable venere.com recommendation! The location is excellent, very close to the National and van Gogh Museums, the antique store street, and on the best of the Amsterdam canals. The rooms were spacious and clean, but very charming due to the old canal mansion space that this hotel inhabits. Very accessible by the city trams. The location close to Leidesplan dictates the not always quiet environ, but the double windows and lush drapes kept it quiet when we wanted it - and let us look out on the activity too! We would definitely look no further for our next Amsterdam visit. our next visit to Amsterdam.

fabulous location - had a terrific room 3rd floor overlooking the canal, no problems with noise (requested a quiet room) only serious criticism is the 4 star rating - this hotel is way overdue for a renovation: carpeting, bathroom, furniture desperately need to be updated. Bathroom not up to American standards in terms of modern sanitation, so don't expect it. Stayed in 3 stars in both Eindoven and Amsterdam with far better facilities, including higher quality breakfast. Breakfast not worth waking up for, coffee terrible - better off picking up something fresh at a nearby bakery. Expected more from a 4 star rating. Rating appears to be based purely on location (which is in the center of everything and you couldn't ask for a better base to explore the city on foot). Also if you're hoping to party in your room, pick another hotel: there's 150 euro fine!

A three day jolly with my sister. Super hotel, on the canal but close to public transport. Nothing too much trouble for staff. Plenty of eating places nearby. We arrived late evening so took a taxi to hotel from station, otherwise would have appreciated tram numbers which pass within 20m. of hotel and are very cheap.

We had a very nice 3 nights stay at The Dikker & Thijs Fenice, but the noise from the streets never stopped!! It is not possible to sleep with the windows opened! The room on the 4th floor was relatively spacious and clean, overlooking Amsterdams rooftops, but a bit run down. Due to a broken lock in the bathroom door it was not possible to close the door, and the bathroom sink was also blocked during our stay. We told the hotel manager about this, but he only said that the rooms would be renovated later this year and then they would fix it !! The breakfast was excellent, and the location of the hotel is superb. The staff were friendly and we will definitely recommend this hotel, but tell guests to bring earplugs!

This hotel was in a perfect location except for the noise, which we fixed with earplugs at night. The breakfast was very good for a European breakfast. The staff was excellent. Over all we would stay here again. It also had a Lift so we did not have to carry any bags up narrow stairs.

A difficult one- No Restaurant or Bar available, we had to go hunting for food, but that was easy enough. Lack of Bar also meant there was no sitting area. Breakfast the best we have experienced anywhere on the continent but not up to british or american hot food standards. Staff hard working, smart and helpfull. Albert and Dianne Austin

We had a beautiful large room overlooking the canal -a great view. The staff was always attentive and helpful. The bar and restaurant were closed but we were advised of this prior to our stay and the hotel was close to a number of dining options anyway. Thanks for contributing to a wonderful holiday.

What a find! The price was more than reasonable for the quality of the hotel as well as its location. A couple of quibbles--the restaurant is temporarily closed (tho supposed to be excellent) and while the website says, "Shuttle service from and/or to the airport," they did not have shuttle service and seemed surprised to hear it was on their website.

The hotel is situated in a spectacular area, 10 seconds walking from the nicest (at night, at least!) square of Amsterdam - Leidse Plein. People at the desk are very nice 24 hours a day, and the breakfast was included even if it was not mentioned on the offer (very good). Lots of young people, not looking for dopes. The only bad thing was the room itself: nice and clean, of course, but the view on the window was on the inside, just in front of the garbage (!). That was very disappointing, because the hotel looks at the canal and we guessed that other rooms have a beautiful view... Watch out: the tram stops right there and taxis are very expansive...

The hotel itself is generally quite pleasent, however feel that we were mislead slightly with regards to the facilites. Wheb we stayed the bar and restaurant were shut, due to re-openagain, however this we felt was quite an important factor of our visit. The hotels location couldnt be faulted, it was perfect distance to everything and in a really nice area. The staff were very pleasent and helpful. The rooms were generally quite clean and nice, but standard compared to the photographs displayed on the website.

An excellent hotel for a city visit. Trams 2&5 to and from the Central Station stop directly outside. Our room 503 had good views was quiet and comfortable, with an excellent bathroom. The continental breakfast was adequate. The venere price was OK. Any more would have been too much.

I'm not sure if it's a credit card issue or not, but the charge didn't actually come through my card until a week after I left the hotel. Inconvenient...but otherwise, this hotel has very high value for the cost and the room was huge. Stay here!

We stayed at another very nice hotel that was similarly priced in Amsterdam. Our hotel room here was twice as big and had an amazing location. Our only regret about this hotel is that we did not go there sooner. I can't say enough good things about this hotel.

We had a great stay, just wish it had been for longer. We have recommended this hotel to some friends and we will use it again the next time we visit Amsterdam. Excellent location! Room was good, great views over the city. Very nice breakfast. We'll be back!

Although my stay had been way too short - I would definitely book a room there again!! Clean, roomy, huge private bath - I overlooked the avenue and what a fantastic view. My daughter loved the pillows!! They made the room perfect. Thank you!!

It was a nice hotel. Amsterdam hotels are expensive in general but I don't think this one is worth the price. Nothing was wrong wiht it but I wouldn't characterize it as 4 star.

Ottima posizione.
