This hotel has a great location, but this is its only positive point, the rooms are tiny, cold and really noisy. But the worst was the welcoming, the manager was incredibly rude from the beginning during the check-in to the end for the check-out : he woke us up the Sunday morning creaming in the phone that we must check-out at 11 am, he never mentioned this before !

I am sorry; but apart from the the staff being friendly this is not a place that I would stay at again but please do not let my comment put you off. For a single traveller or young couple it may be quite suitable but I felt that for what I paid to what I got it was quite poor. It is a very old building which would definately benefit from some improvements. I had to sit sideways on the toilet because it was only 4 inches away from the wall which made it impossibly to sit on normally. The pillow was almost brown with sweat stains though there was a clean pillow case. The room was very small and there was a lot of noise from other rooms. Breakfast is included and while basic it was certainly adequate. Cheese, meat, bread, butter, condiments and egg with tea or coffee.

This was the worst hotel I have ever lived - having travelled to over 30 countries. The room size is atrociously small and for breakfast they offered only toast and coffee. The service is pathetic and the hotel is depressing.

People who worked at reception (the young men) are very firendly and have weolcomed us kindly, they give also some advices about what to do in Amsterdam. Rooms are not very spacious but they're clean (baths included) and quiet: a very good compromise above all for young visitors.

La camera era piccolissima ed umidissima. Muri sbreccati e sporchi. Il rifacimento della camera è consistito solamente nel cambio degli asciugamani. Non è stata pulita.Come sistemazione poteva andare bene se il prezzo non fosse stato di 90,00 euro per notte.

Friendly reception in centrally-located hotel in a typical Amsterdam building. Small room on 3rd floor in the attic up extremely steep stairs - not recommended for the unfit or those with heavy / large bags. Previous stay I had a nicer room on the ground floor.

Hotel is OK for a 2 stars, room clean. Staff was friendly, give us information about the city, parking; where to eat etc. Hotel area is OK, is at 10 min from center, if you come by train, central station is at 5 min.

I think the hotel offers good value with a reasonably-sized, quiet room in a central city location. Friendly staff create a pleasant relaxed atmosphere. Large reception area / breakfast room give a spacious feel where many places in town are a bit claustrophobic. Nothing especialy luxurious of course but I would highly recommend it for a few days stay if this is your budget.

This is a typical Amsterdam hotel, with long narrow steps and no elevator - just like we expected. The room was very small because they had made a bathroom in the room and needed the space. The bathroom was clean, but small. The sheets were clean and the beds very good. The breakfast was ok, egg, bread, ham, cheese, juice, coffe.Quite expensive if you compare with other contries, but that´s the way it is in Amsterdam. An ok hotel if you spend most of the time in town and just need a place to sleep in. Location just 10 min walk from the central station. Next time we´ll try an other hotel -a little more central to save our feet:)

Rooms were very small, no room to walk around the bed. We were on third floor and no elevators. No assistance in carrying luggage to our rooms. Most expensive room on whole trip and also the smallest room for entire vacation.

The staff were very friendly and were only too happy to help us out when we booked a quad room and turned up with five people! they put an extra bed in the room for us and only charged an extra 30 euros on top of the final room price. bed clothes and towels were changed daily.

I was not happy with the accommodation; I booked a double room with a toilet. The room smelt very bad, to the extent that I to go and buy room freshener spray, it was so small that you could not even walk around the bed to the other side properly. It was dark and miserable. The sheets where disgusting and stained. I could not sleep properly because of this. The breakfast included was a hard-boiled egg, some bread and a slice of cheese and ham. This was not very nice and certainly did not fill you up for the morning ahead.

We were very pleasantly surprised. For the price we paid, the hotel was definitely a good deal. Aside from the stairs being extremely steep and the shower having no curtain, we really didn't have any complaints. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was an additional bonus.

Hi, Knowing that I was about to stay in a 2 stars hotel I didn't expect a huge standing. However, Î was dissapointed about the quality of the bedrooms : painting more than defreshed, shower not cleaned, beds in bad shape.....The bedroom on the 2nd floor was ok but the one in the basement was more than hugly... I would not reccomend this hotel or at least the basement bedrooms.

The room was not very clean, the space under the bed seemed to have never been vacuumed! The towels were old, seemed even dirty at times, some of them were even ripped off. Room too expensive for what it is. However, the location of the hotel within the city is ok. It is close to the center, very close to the central train station. Surroundings are pretty quiet but other customers are most often not!

I have written formally to the Netherlands Tourist Board (NTB) in London to complain about both the Hotel and the manager (Sah). I was not happy with my accommodation and requested a refund on the day I checked in. Sah was agressive and would not deal with me. I did not stay at the Hotel at all and checked in instead to the Amstel Botel for the three night stay. They offered a 3-star service for 70 euro less than Sah charged me. I am still waiting to hear from the NTB on how I can pursue a refund from the Hotel. I would want to state in the strongest possible terms that having this Hotel on your site will ruin your reputation in the long term. The photos on the site do not in any way reflect the cleanliness of facilities at the City Hotel - wires hanging out of walls, dirty bed linen and worn carpets and a TV that didn't work properly. The noise from the road outside only added to my misery. The manager's attitude would not reflect the friendliness I would expect as a visitor to the city and suggest he go on an anger management course. All in all, I was extrememly disappointed and angry at having spend 270 Euro for nothing and will pursue my complaint against the Hotel until I get some satisfaction.

The first room we were offered was tiny and totally unsuited to a double occupancy. The stairs to the second floor can only be used with the aid of crampons, ice axe and ropes! The second room while larger than the first had inadequate wardrobe facilities. There were no shower curtains in either room. The windows did not close properly and as there is a very busy road outside it was very noisy. Although superficially clean the room was very shabby. Not good value for money.

Score does not really equate to what was on offer as it was only a 2* hotel, therefore based on a 2* hotel the hotel provided the service etc as you would expect.and the location was literally a 5 minute walk from the main railway station which is easily accessed from the airport.great location from which to see the city.

Although I had wanted cheap accommodation I was a little distraught when we got given our room keys. One room was on the first floor (which I took) the other on 2nd floor - you may ask what's the problem but the stairs were almost vertical and required mountaineering skills to get up. I was not warned of this and as I suffer with my knee it could have been quite an issue. The room was satisfactory although the walls were very dirty, the curtains did not pull together or cut light out very well and there were burns all over the blanket and floor. The bathroom was tiny and as soon as you used the shower the whole room was soaking wet, indeed I fell in the bathroom and hurt my shoulder. Having said all this, it was fairly cheap, although there are cheaper hotels which I would rate slightly better. If you only want a bed for the night it's fine but don't go with any expectations and you won't be dissapointed.

The City Hotel was very well located and only a short walk from Central Station. The rooms were clean and comfortable, however the noise level from the road can be loud and i would recommend that light sleepers get a room at the back of the hotel. Back rooms do unfortunately miss a great view of the port though. All the sites are within good walking distance and the canal boat stops are easily accessible. Should you partake in any local delicacies or alcohol then head for the station and you cant go wrong!

Good location. right by the red light. There were 3 of us in a twin room - my mate had to keep sneaking in and out as we weren't all supposed to be i there but the hotel guy didn't seem bothered. No view, the TV was snowy etc but we were only in the room for to sleep and wash .. if i was going with a bird then i'd probably be inclined to try somewhere else but for a group its spot on - 2 mins from the red light and we were smoking pot in the rooms and didn't get bothered .. a bit cramped but all in all i'd recomend it.

City Hotel was very well situated, just 5 minutes walk from Central Station and 10 minutes from the heart of the red ligt district. The rooms were quiet (except for the occasional thud of other guests using the stairs) and clean although ours was a little narrow and the bed was positioned in a rather uncomfortable way (one side against the wall with no headboard)the staff were friendly and the hotel has a 24 hour reception where you leave your key when you go out, very handy if you get in a bit of a state when you hit the town. Overall I'd say that we were pleased with the accommodation and would be happy to stay there again.

I stayed at the hotel for 2 nights, we were in the basement level which was fine by us but the only thing was that the twin rooms were very small, for 100euros per night per room you would expect a little more space although they were fine. Quiet central 5 minute walk from the Central Station and about 10minutes from Dam Square. The staff are friendly and the hotel is very clean. I saw a picture of the twin rooms on the internet which was different from our room. Would stay again as I liked the location and it was a last minute break to amsterdam and this hotel suited us fine.
