If you are looking for a budget hotel that is clean, in a central position and offers a decent bed, to be fair this hotel is good. BUT I also chose it for the imperative need of WiFi in the privacy of my room which it advertises. THE WIFI DID NOT WORK. Other guests had the same problem AND the staff admitted to constant provider problems. They do have a guest computer to use which is on a timer - OK, but only one! Someone was always on it! These days most travelers need internet and this is a BIG problem at this hotel. I had requested a quiet room but the walls are thin and the old water (?) pipes literally "scream" in the middle of the night and wake you. On my first night after driving all day, I was dying for a shower and the power went off. Bathroom was pitch black with no windows. That can happen to anyone but it was their attitude to my request for a torch or candle that annoyed me. They left me standing on the stairs "waiting" for a candle or torch and never came back!!! There was NO remote control so TV was not usable. They said someone stole it!! They didn't seem to take responsibility to get another one! Can't comment on the breakfast as I bought my own. The room was very plain but clean and the bathroom decent with a good shower. So..... if NO TV, no WiFi, intermittent power, loud pipes and noisy surroundings don't bother you, go ahead and stay! The hotel has two flights of stairs and there is NO ONE to help you with luggage. No lift. If on a tight budget again and in town, I would probably stay there again knowing the internet problems. Position is great near all shops and restaurants. It was simple and clean and fine apart from that! Value for price compared to other places.

This hotel is right around the corner from downtown Amboise and the Amboise castle. It is also very close to Clos Luce, where Leonardo da Vinci retired. Plenty of free parking nearby. Even though is was early July, the city was not too crowded, it was easy to find parking and get tables at restaurants.

Hotel was a bit like a hostel, but very satisfactory, especially for the price. Parking free in the square nearby. Amboise was a great place to stay to tour the Loire valley. A beautiful area. The staff were great, friendly and helpful. Eating places close early, for France.

A great little hotel right in the heart of Amboise. I would be very happy to go back there again. Friendly staff and even a loan of an umbrella on rainy days. Highly recommended for the price.

Definitely value for money, great location, breakfast was super too, staff really helpful. Perfect for cyclists as huge room to store them in. Only negative was our room was in the roof so to sleep with window wide open was problematic as it was in the way, but hey, not exactly a major problem.

Hotel staff was very attentive. Although some English would have been helpful, the manager went out of his way to resolve a problem for us.

Good Morning, We enjoyed our trip in this site. The hotel was very good, very good welcoming, the breakfast was complete and many differents foods. Moreover, it had a good location in the city center, and the price was very attrative. Thanks you very much

This was our first time in Amboise and we really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Chaptal. The guy who runs the place was very friendly and helpful (if you find it a necessity for the staff to speak English you may need to head elsewhere - we do not speak French and were still able to communicate just fine!). Amboise is a very pretty town that is enjoyable to walk around and the hotel is very convenient to the main pedestrian way full of shops and restaurants...and excellent bakeries with delicious chocolate eclaires! We would highly recommend staying at Hotel Chaptal for a good clean room at an excellent price. The only small downside is parking which is offsite (but free), and it is probably a 3-5 minute walk to the hotel, which really is not bad.

The room was fairly big, but the tv was very small and old. The owner was very welcoming and helpful. Hotel is located right beside the Chateau d'Amboise and famous wine caves.

We travelled as a group of 4 and stayed in one of the quad rooms and had plenty of room for all of our belongings. We were all so impressed with the service. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Clean rooms, fresh towels every day. The breakfast was good and filling and the location was perfect for exploring the downtown and market area of Amboise. There were other guests in the hotel, but we heard no noise at night. Computer is available in the lobby. No complaints. Great hotel - would definitely stay here again!

We are a family with 2 small kids. It was our 1st visit to the area and we stayed for 2 nights travelling around in days. Excellent location and has private parking which is of great help. Simple (no furniture other than beds), but clean rooms, small, but clean bathroom with towels changed daily. Very friendly staff, with 0 knowledge of English.
