Very close from the city center. B&B is on the top floor without elevator, and you have to clime up 70+ stairs. B&B is small, lovely, clean, nice. I was offered free upgrade to a double room instead of a single reservation, with a view of roofs and buildings and sea, lovely furnitures, clean bathroom, very very nice. Single room I saw was soooooo tiny, so if I stayed there my impression could have been bad. Staff were nice enough. Breakfast room is small, cozy, with terrace, and they offered superfresh croissant and nice cappucino. Totally very nice accomodation with nice price. If you are young and fit, I recomend, but I can't return with those stairs... Amalfi in December was surprisingly lively and full of tourist. The bus ride from Solent to Amalfi to Salerno was breathtakingly beautiful, and excursion to Ravello was also fantastic. I have travelled 5 times in Italy, Amalfi coast is probably the NO.1 place to visit!

At the top of four flights of stairs (a challenge if you had heavy baggage but no problem for us) is this fantastic, small but beautiful house run by a family who made us feel welcome and were always on hand to advise or help. Two of us had the honeymoon suite and enjoyed the higher standard of everything. I would say only one negative - the tv carried CNN and BBC but no other channels at all and we would not have minded some Italian channels to watch.

If you are in Amalfi this hotel is the perfect place to stay in. right in the center piazza but still very quiet, beautiful rooms, well equiped,a beautiful big terrace with sea view which was an unexpected bonus to the room, air condition, verry welcoming staff, breakfest on the hotel terrace. the only down side is all those stairs that you have to climb to get to the hotel. we enjoyed the hotel very much and highly recommend it.

I loved my stay at Residenza Del Duca. The father and son who run it were very warm, friendly and helpful. And although my room (single) was tiny, if was probably one of the most beautiful I have stayed in. It was such a comfortable and cleverly designed little refuge. And the 70 or so steps didn't worry me. I saw it as a guilt-free compensation for my daily gelato. The Residenza is perfectly placed in the heart of the historic centre, off a quiet laneway. The breakfast was the best I've had, and I've stayed in a lot of places during my 2 months of travelling.

Amazing hotel right in the heart of Amalfi. The staff were extremely kind and helpful and made our stay so pleasant. Great clean rooms with nice views, wonderful terrace to eat breakfast and have coffee, great central location near the duomo/central square, restaurants and beach. Really felt the staff went above and beyond for us. Would recomend to anyone!!

The Residenza del Duca has a great location and my room (the Maria d'Aragona) was lovely. It has a partial sea view, but I had to improvise and put my chair on the highest level of the terrace (which involved climbing up on another chair) as the main levels have a very high wall and you can't see anything when seated. Breakfasts on the terrace were very good and they offered a 2nd cup of cappuccino, which was nice. It was a little hard to find the first time, although the map is probably as good as it can be. I hadn't realized that what appeared as streets were actually staircases and I overshot it. Anyone arriving by ferrry should head straight back and slightly to the right (the only way to go) and then take the first archway on the left which is called "Piazza dei Dogi." You'll see the sign for the hotel high on the building at the far side of the square. Walk across the square diagonally and take the alley between the gelateria and the pharmacy and the stairs begin just down the narrow alley. It is in the same building as the gelateria. The stairs (76 from the street) were a bit of a challenge at first, particularly with luggage. I know the hotel offers porter service, but I didn't see the company they mention on the dock. I got used to climbing them, but you don't pop back to your room if you forget something! I would not recommend this hotel for older people or anyone with disabilities. There is no internet connection in the hotel, but there is an internet cafe on the square below. The square also has a supermarket, pharmacy and several cafes. Overall, I was very pleased and would stay here again.

We really enjoyed our 2 night stay at Residenza del Duca. They bathroom was beautiful. The views of the water were very nice, especially the 2nd morning when I looked out and saw a cruise ship in the harbor! The only drawback, but I knew it before we booked, was the stairs. But it's a sacrifice one must make in order to get the views!

Residenza Del Duca was fantastic, I highly recommend it to anybody else travelling. Keep in mind that there are a quite a few stairs to climb to get to the hotel. They offer a shuttle service to carry your bags up and down for you so it's a good idea to use that if you have heavy luggage

This hotel was beautiful & paid special attention to detail - fresh flowers in our room, towelling slippers, & the cleaning lady brought in a miniature clothes line for us when she noticed we had done some hand washing. The breakfast was the best we experienced in our 3 weeks in Italy, the staff welcoming & the location brillant.

We arrived in Naples with a sense of dread after hearing terrible things about it while in Rome. Piazza Bellini and its staff quickly restored our faith. The hotel was great and the staff were friendly and extremely helpful. The area, although a bit dirty(there was a garbage dispute on at the time) was on the border of the historical center and was vibrant with many restaurants, sights and lots of reasonably priced shopping. I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again.

This B&B is clean and spacious and the staff were very welcoming. It is located right in Amalfi so lots of choice on what to do and where to eat. The comments about the stairs are true - too many stairs so be prepared! My only gripe was that the staff were a little forgetful. Our wakeup call on the day we leaving was forgotten (luckily we woke up) and also we had asked for some information on train schedules which we never received (in the end went to the travel agents instead), But they were kind and friendly and I'm sure it was not intentional. Our room had thin walls and we could hear our neighbours during the dinner hour, other rooms seemed not to be close together like ours.

April 11th 2007 to April 14th Me and my husband want to thank you Gerardo, for making us feel at home. This place is amazingly clean + + and quiet in the centre of Amalfi Coast what do you want more.. this is our favorite place in Italy in which we stayed, with a generous breakfast, juices, croissants, fresh fruits, prochuitos, cheese, cereales, and with the best cappucino and expressos we have ever tasted. All this served on the terrasse I give you a 10 we will be back even if we have to climb 77 steps to get to our room it's all worth it...... sorry if it took two months to write our comment. We think and talk about your place all the time. It was an unforgetable experience that we will keep in our memories forever.....See you soon Giovanni & Suzanne Zara

Loved our room with a large patio, beautifully decorated room and bathrom, overlooking a little square. We felt very comfortable, as if we were staying at the private residence of a prominent Italian family. If you are driving, be sure to call ahead to have Antonio from the Garage meet you by the piazza in front of the church. Parking in Amalfi is difficult.

The 100 steps from the plaza to the hotel lobby were worth it. Staff were helpful and friendly, and we were very glad we chose this hotel for our stay in Amalfi.

I really enjoyed my time here. The staff were great and were a refreshing change from some of the other hotels and bed & breakfast I had previously experienced. However as a single traveler I was accommodated in a very small room just off the reception and could hear everything that happened out there, I hate to think what they heard from the other side, but as the staff were so nice I was not too fussed. I will stay there again no problems.

We had a fantastic stay there. the owners are very helpful and charming. we had the luck to get a room with terrace and a bit of seaview. the hotel is not that difficult to find like some people said. you just walk up an alley right next to the square of the duomo for about 20 meters and then there is the entrance of the hotel. the hotel is on the 4th floor which means some steps, but unless you are sick or very old that is none of a problem. there is a little restaurant at one corner of the square where the hotel is located which is good value for money. all in all i would stay there again. the location and the hotel are unbeatable.

We were very unlucky with the weather as it rained most of the time we were in Amalfi so we weren't able to make the most of the town or enjoy the lovely balcony that our room had. However, the over-riding memory we will keep from our stay is the friendly and helpful staff. You can tell it is a family establishment. Always smiling and happy to advise you, lend you books, umbrellas, etc. The only negative points were : - relatively small (but pleasant) common area, although this wouldn't have even been a problem had the weather been nicer - access, we came by car and got lost looking for the car-park they had booked for us (although, a call to the hotel and they sorted us out quickly enough). - the B&B is on the 4th or 5th floor, which was a bit tiring (although, they were happy to help us with our bags) so I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to older or fragile people!

We went to this hotel on the recommendation of friends who had stayed 12 months ealier - we were not dissapointed. They were also correct about the climb upto the hotel - 70 steps seem far more after a long day out, however we found everything about the place great. The staff were always very helpful and friendly and the rooms were very clean, well appointed and everything worked. We found the breakfast something to look forward to on the breakfast balcony with a great selection from which to chose including cereals, fresh fruit, breads etc through to ham and cheese. We found the hotel straight away with directions from our friends but it is tucked away down a small alley which could make it difficult for the first time visitor. In all a great place to stay and one to which we will return.

It is 5 April and I am still in Italy, having stayed at del Duca over three weeks ago and del Duca is still the best place I stayed. The place is pure class and a little gem. As value for money goes its top notch. The front rooms overlook the old piazza right in the centre. We were lucky enough to get a side room - with balcony - easily big enough for two recliners anda table andchairs, and not plastic either. The room had a fridge, satellite TV with English progs, sumptuous bedding andquality furniture, with lots of attention to detal. The bathroom hadthose little touches -shampoo and stuff - and a jacuzzi shower as well as a good quality usual shower. Each morning, a phonecall would bring us breakfast in the room, and that is standard service. Neither was it your average continental breakfast - pastries andcroissants, cereal and yoghurt, varied each day and hot cappuchinos. I could hardly believe it. I would call it 5 star but that is too impersonal. This had an intimate atmosphere. OUr hosts were gracious andwarm hearted, really stylish Italians and spoke excellent English. I do not know if I will ever go back to Amalfi but if I do I will return to del Duca. Thank you so much for the warm welcome, Geraldo and Daniella, Jules and Jenny

Our stay here was everything we anticipated and more. True, there is a long climb up three flights of stairs to get there, but it's worth it. The city views are stunning, especially during the holidays when the streets are lit and are especially charming. We highly recommend Residenza del Duca for a welcoming, one-of-a-kind experience. P.S. The complimentary breakfast is outstanding!

Our first visit to our new second home in Amalfi. Host were above parr. Breakfast was very good and the capacinos MMM. Get the room with the terrace overlooking the square. It costs $29 euros extra but well worth it. Be prepared for a lot of stairs 74 to be exact. Amalfi is charming and a nice break in a sometimes hectic vacation. The road going into amalfi has amazing scenery but try to take the hydrofoil from Naples, the road here is not for the faint of heart. Overall I will make it my first stop for honeymoons or romantic getaways. Loved it.

This hotel may have been one of the highlights of our trip to Italy. The room was extremely clean, and ours had a fantastic terrace (16' X 11") overlooking one of Amalfi's most interesting squares, the cathedral, and the mountains of the countryside. There was a Jacuzzi shower in the room, and the bathroom came fully equipped. The bathroom also had great handmade tiles and a vaulted ceiling. The staff was very accommodating, and the breakfast was outstanding- cereal, yoghurt, rolls, pastries, bread, ham, cheese, juices, croissants, etc. This hotel is a real treat, and there's not doubt that we'll stay here again some day. Treat yourself.

Exquisite! We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of this hotel. Warm, friendly, cozy, private, well decorated. Breakfast is excellent! Service is supurb. Only warning--if you cannot climb steps, are short of breath, or in bad shape, we wouldn't recommend. The steps are an amenity if you can take the hike and like your quiet and privacy, but are lengthy. We had a tiny bit of trouble locating it at first, but the natives all knew where to send us. Amalfi was beautiful, and Rezedenza Del Duca was in the heart of everything, excellently located for shopping, stolling, and beach combing. We traveled all through Europe and this was BY FAR our best stay. Be aware that you cannot see the coastline from the hotel, but one night, the piazza below was full of musicians to whom we listened from our balcony--we fell asleep to the music. It was enchanting. Thanks for everything!

Make no mistake...this is a bed and breakfast, not a hotel...it has only 5 rooms. It is located in the center of town (nice piazza), but without a pool and normal hotel amenitites, it is only worth a 2 night stay at best (my 15 year old son was bored to tears). Everything is very mom & pop, but they do work hard to please. My big complaint was that they would not let me leave one day early on my 4 night reservation (even with 72-hour notificaiton), which at 200 Euros was an expensive penalty to pay.

Wonderful rooms: Tastefully decorated in the Ducal style, but clearly renovate or new. All rooms we saw were spacious and all were very comforatble. Some had balconies or a nice view, those that don't have something extra such as a larger room or bathroom to compensate. Different variety of food for breakfast each day in a wwonderfully relaxing breakfast room. Staff are excellent with good english. The drawback is the stairs (from ground level to reception there are 70something!) but they are not insurmountable!

Nice friendly hotel. Staff was very welcoming. Finding the hotel initially, was confusing. the map is relatively accurate, however, finding the correct alley way(only accessible by foot) was confusing. there is only one road in Amalfi, so we left our car with the only parking attendant (hotel amalfi) and he instructed us on how to find hotel. The terrace was nice, but the view was of residents, and not the water. We were able to experience two differenbt rooms, and the regular room had a nice peek of the water.

There are wuite a few steps and I had a bad back and knee but Gerardo and his colleagues did not hesitate to help with the bags. A hidden gem in Amalfi. Quietly located on the 'old' square, easily accessible to the main square in spite of the 70 steps up and down. Richly decorated with vibrant colour, tastefully furnished, and efficient, modern bathroom. Spotlessly clean. Hearty breakfast of fresh fruit and warm croissants--and the best cappuccino! This was our last stop on our Italian holiday and was a real jewel. We had a detailed email before arriving with directions and telephon numbers for assistance with luggage and car parking. Although there are 73 stairs to the hotel they are not really a problem. The room was really spacious, exceptionally clean with good sixe bathroom and jacuzzi shower. Great central location just off the main street in Amalfi and minutes from the port. And very good cappuchino. There are 75 steps up to the entrance so one gets good exercise after eating all of that wonderful pasta. I would definitely stay here again when I return to the Amalfi Coast. Great value.

Amalfi is so pretty and being in the Centre of this old town was great. The parking is a bit of a hassle, but I think that is true for this whole part of the coast. And the stairs is something with luggage!

We found this property on the web and believe the positive ratings are justified. The owners are friendly and knowledgable. The breakfast in the room is a pleasant start for the day.The location is just right for seeing the town, getting to the beach, and getting buses (better than driving) to adjoining towns. There are steps from the street to the rooms, but we, with kids 7 and 9, didn`t consider that to be a problem. It could be a problem for people who aren`t in shape. We would definitely stay there again.

A charming room with a view of the sea over a small piazza The number of stairs (about 70 I think)ensured you were high enough for a good view! Breakfast was served in the bedroom on a nicely laid table. We will definitely be coming here again.

The place was beautifully decorated, well located in gorgeous, lively Amalfi. Lots of hot water and heat during a cold spell. The coffee was delicious and breakfast quite good. This place is more a small hotel than a B and B as the welcome is impersonal. And there is no public space to meet other people staying ther: breakfast is served in the room and could be served on the terrace, weather permitting, which of course would have been lovely.

Excellent hotel and service. The service provided by the staff was remarkable and every morning we were served the best breakfast I've had in Italy in our room. Amalfi is a rather small town but this hotel is smack in the middle of it. This was one of the best hotels I've stayed in and it was very far from the most expensive. Highly recommended!

We had a delightful stay and found Gerardo and his son as friendly and helpful as all the other reviewers had said they were. Nothing was too much trouble. Also thanks to the lovely garage owner who collected our car and brought it back to us whenever we wanted. Highly recommend a stay here. The steps to the hotel are not as bad as we thought! We did the fab walk from Amalfi to Ravello ... now that's what you call steps.

Simply put, the hotel is simply gorgeous and the staff is very polite and informed us well in advance about pre-arranging a place to meet so that they could guide us to the hotel and help us up the stairs. The rooms and breakfast were great. We will definetly be back in the near future.

For a brilliant setting like the Amalfi Coast, it is particularly nice to have a reliable base from which to venture out on daily adventures; a base to which one may retreat and recuperate and reflect; a base that provides everything that they purport to provide... and with great cheer. Start the day with a varied/full breakfast consisting of pastries, cold cereal, fresh fruit, yogurt, juice, and, as per our particular tastes, hot milk. Our room was comfortable, with enough space for us to settle in (4 day stay) and unpack. Good-sized bathroom, in our experience. The property is well-kept and spotless clean without feeling antiseptic. Our hosts have made our stay comfortable: much thanks to Gerardo, Daniella, and Andrea (my apologies, in advance, for poor spelling!). I would recommend a stay at the Residenza del Duca without any hesitation.

Great location but be prepared to walk the stairs. Very welcoming staff and spotless rooms. breakfast was basic and the breakfast table could have been bigger so as to fit all of the breakfast on it. Very central location and close to transport to other towns - very helpful staff.

We were very pleased with our stay. The staff was very helpful and extremely pleasant and accomodating. It is well located in Almalfi. While not on the coast, we could see the sea from our balcony. The continental breakfast was very sufficient and the service in our room was a real treat. We would definitely return to this hotel.

I m sorry to say that, but when we came, nobody at the reception... For the car, no parking, we must put the car in the house of a neighbourgh and call him each time we want the car or we want to range the car, and wait 15 minutes... When we came it was very cold, and we say the first day we would like to leave one day before that previous...we must pay the half price of the last night and the owner addict at this price the charge he must pay at venere(10eur/night he said...) It was a very special souvenir to leave the hotel...

Great and very friendly staff made us feel like home. The large room had everything you may want, being used to modern four star accomodation. If you want to go for a typical and great stay in Amalfi, this is the place we would recommend. We will try to stay there again next time.

My wife and I stayed at the Residenza del Duca for eight days during our honeymoon in late September. After many hours of internet research we felt blessed to have come upon this B&B. We had a wonderful room that faced the sea with moonscapes that were so beautiful we found it hard to believe that they were real. The room and bath were wonderfully decorated and kept extremely clean. The breakfasts consisted of a combination of yogurt, bread and pastries, juice, and delicious cappuccino. And we took full advantage of eating them atop the roof terrace, which offered cozy views of the Duomo. We had one small problem with the temperature control on the shower, but it was promptly attended too. We would highly recommend the Residenza del Duca and while it carries only a three star rating, we would give a four star rating for the friendliness of the owners the quality of the room finishes. Thank you, Carmela, Gerardo & Andrea for providing us with a wonderful retreat from which to explore the Amalfi Coast. You made our honeymoon extremely memorable.

Nice hotel, fairly easy to find. Very welcoming staff. Brilliant email correspondance prior to arriving. Bit too far in amongst the buildings to expect a decent sea view though. Watch out for methods of getting to Amalfi if you are going via Naples. DO NOT get taxis unless you are rich and like being conned. Great place, very helpful staff, close to everything you'll need in Amalfi. Avoid Capri unless you like tacky tourist towns saturated in cheap tourism.

Extremely spacious and clean room. After traveling in Italy for six days it was nice to have a big bed. The service was excellent but the public areas should be expanded for a lobby setting. They were very accomdating when helping us with travel schedules and hotel bookings in Rome. The free breakfast was the best we had in Italy (Italians are much for breakfast). The drawbacks is there was little hot water and many steps up to our room. The hotel workers did help us up to our room because we had alot of luggage. Overall it was excellent. Grazie!

Gerardo, the owner of the hotel was extremely hospitable and very nice. The hotel had a very cozy atmosphere and is conveniently located within a couple steps to the Duomo, shopping, sites, restaurants, and transportation. However, to reach the hotel, there are several flights of stairs to reach the front desk...the customer service was worth the stairs! I would recommend my family and friends to stay at this hotel!

Our stay in the hotel was delightful. Even though we did not have the balcony room we had a great view of the small piazza below our window (8 floors down) and could see the ocean and the bell tower. we took full advantage of the lovely roof terrace for sunsets and breakfast. You must have sturdy legs because the reception and rooms are 68 steps above the street, which was it's only major challenge. Everything else was first class- a true indulgence!

What a wonderful stay we had at Residenza del Duca! Everything was as we expected, even better! The hosts are most freindly, the situation of the hotel couldn't be better for travellers, right in the heart of this lovely romantic town, and really just two minutes away from the main bus stop to go all around the coast. We absolutely loved it and wrote the hosts after our return to Canada to tell them we'd be back on our tenth anniversary!! Don't hesitate one minute to book this most charming BandB.

The Residenza del Duca was a marvelous accomodation. Although the pictures were accurate on the web site, they simply could not do justice to the quality of the room and its location. Situated a block from the main piazza overlooking the sea and the tower of Duomo di Sant’Andrea, it is just steps away from the heart of Amalfi. Carmela & Gerardo (and their son) are gracious, warm and helpful hosts. They helped with luggage, found us another accomodation when we decided to stay an extra day, and arranged for car pickup and storage with a very friendly and punctual local service. Breakfast outside on the terrace each morning was the perfect way to start each day. This was the best stay we experienced in our ten-day trip to Italy. Highly recommended!

The room was excellent; however, based on the web infomation and the picture I thought the hotel had views of the sea. I realize now that the picture is a common picture of Amalfi and did from the hotel.. Also an email we recieved said that we would be provide with help with our luggage since the rooms were up about 40 steps. While is was more like 75 steps and no one helped. However, when leaving after requesting help it was provided. Other than that the room was very nice and our stay was lovely

Residenza del Duca is a true gem (once you get use to the STAIRS). Geraldo and Carmela were very helpful, both pre trip with travel hints and during our stay with suggestions for day trips and dining. Our room was one without a real terace and we would definitely ask for one with on a return trip. We highly recommend the Residenza del Duca and plan to stay here again on return trips to Amalfi!

The most wonderful place I have ever stayed. The rooms were beautifully decorated and very clean. The service was excellent. Excellent position, not right on the water but with views of the water, hillside and the main square. The people were wonderful and very helpful. After reading the other reviews I expected the stairs to be a lot worse than they were, they were fine. I recommend asking for a room with a balcony, really made a difference to the stay being able to come home in the middle of the day and lounge on our own private balcony. Definatly money well spent, I highly recommend it.

Wonderful small bed & breakfast in downtown Amalfi! Just go down the stairs and you are on the Duomo square. The perfect location for whom is seeking a peaceful place from where to run around the Amalfi coast. The people are nice and really friendly, rooms are nice and clean, and the service is up to the task. Breakfast is served on the roof terrace, with the view of the world, and it takes really just a few seconds to insert yourself within the atmosphere and culture of Amalfi. A really nice find to keep for all your trips to Amalfi.

The hotel is lovely. Our room had a view of the sea and looked over a central piazza. The description of the hotel is accurate and if anything, overly modest. It is especially convenient for those traveling by public transport. There is a local bus or boat that connects central Amalfi with the towns along the Amalfi coast as well as the cities (and train stations) of Naples and Sorrento. My only advice would be to note the exact location or ask a town local about the hotel, as I started up several staircases that led to other locations.
