I'm from the US but live a few hours away and could have my choice of anywhere but I will always stay here. Easy access to all the views you can pay twice as much for. AND REALLY, who stays in their room to enjoy Amalfi anyway? Cheers!

A ketttle - tea and coffee, would be very nice to have in the room. When arriving at the hotel, or after a long day sightseeing, it would be a welcome refreshment.

I don't often write these reviews but I'm making an exception because of the service and friendliness of the staff at L'Antico Convitta. We are a mature couple used to travelling. We stayed for 9 days in a large double room (#7). There were no great views from the Hotel but it was very clean, well maintained and it had very easy access to all parts of the Amalfi Coast. We were there in late March 2009 and the weather was mild, very good for walking and sightseeing. We could get anywhere we wanted without being hindered by crowds, including Positano, Ravello, Sorrento, Pompei and Salerno. The road between Amalfi and Paiano was blocked for a week by a landfall. This meant an unscheduled walk when heading towards Sorrento but we were given daily reports from one of the Hotel staff and lots of good advice about alternative routes and options for visits. It also meant that we were able to use the sea ferry between Amalfi and Positano - it usually doesn't run until Easter, but an emergency service operated. We suggest coming from Naples airport via Salerno as the cheapest and most comfortable option. Airport bus (Älibus") from the airport to the main train station (3 euros), Train to Salerno (1.80 euros) and SITA bus (Amalfi) from outside the station (1.30 euros). The drive along the coast road is spectacular - but 30 - 45 minutes is enough. We reversed the route to get to Pompei, and walked from the new Pompei station, rather than taking the circumvesusianna from Sorrento. We went from Amalfi to Capri by bus (2.50) and ferry (9.80) but in summer the ferry goes from Amalfi to Capri and would be a great alternative. Back to the staff. The hotel is family owned and they have a great pride in and knowledge of Amalfi. The staff is very well versed in personal service and it is obvious that they recognise its importance to their business.

This was a great property and the staff could not have been more helpful, especially with transportation information and suggested activities in Amalfi. Somewhat difficult to find due to construction in the alley. Would not hesitate to recommend to others.

This is a nice little hotel at the fourth floor of a historical building. The hotel is merely in the center and the receptionist was very nice to handle everything. The only problem is that we had to pay 20 Euro/night to a private parking, and that is part of the game if you stay right in the heart of a place like Amalfi.

We had a great stay at Amalfi. No trouble finding the hotel, even though we walked passed it a little, we just asked a shop keeper on the street and she took us directly to the hotel entrance. Thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere of the old town, and would recommend it to anyone. Wonderful old building tastefully renovated. Friendly staff who were very helpful.

Staying at L'Antico Convitto is like being part of a welcoming, warm family! The staff are extremely competent and helpful, consistently going above and beyond to ensure you have a good stay and arrive safely to your next destination. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the luxurious multi-jet shower was truly a treat! The breakfast is an ample buffet. This hotel is conveniently located near the main plaza, only 3 minutes to the beach. If you're planning a visit to Amalfi, L'Antico Convitto is the place to stay!

Beautiful hotel in a great location in the heart of Amalfi. These were some of the most spacious hotel rooms I've stayed in in Italy. They were tastefully decorated, and both mine and my parents' room had fabulous views. The large bathrooms had wonderful showers with great water pressure. The staff was very child-friendly. Breakfast was fine. The only drawback was the bells from the nearby Duomo rang a little earlier in the morning (around 7:30) than I'd have liked, but that's the price we pay for the phenomenal location. I thought this hotel offered a great value. The hotel is on the 4th floor of a multi-use building up a narrow alley from the main street. We were a little apprehensive as we approached the hotel and its antiquated (but perfectly adequate and even a little exciting) elevator. Once we got to the hotel, all our concerns were erased as we received a warm welcome. Try Trattoria San Giuseppe in the alleys across the main street from the hotel-- the paccheri con crostacei was phenomenal.
USA, Sep 2008
This hotel is right off the main street, steps from the cathedral, in a quiet building with a lift. It was literally 5 minutes' walk from the SITA bus stop/port area to the hotel, and the map emailed to us by the hotel was VERY helpful & accurate. Francesca greeted us warmly, in perfect English, and was so helpful with her recommendations, she basically planned our entire stay on the Amalfi Coast! We were upgraded to a superior double for no charge, and had a spectacular view of the cathedral from our window. Would definitely stay here again the next time we visit Amalfi!

L'Antico Convitto was a welcome oasis of peace and quiet compared to the hustle and bustle of Amalfi. The staff were very attentive and were always around for an assistance. Only minor down side is the stairs up to the hotel; there are a lot, but there is a small lift. If i ever returned to Amalfi on holiday L'Antico Convitto would be where i would stay.

This hotel was excellent. We are a family of 4 traveling with two small children, ages 2 and 4. The staff was courteous and helpful. Our room was clean and comfortable. Our hotel was in an excellent location close to everything; breakfast was nice; and the staff was so pleasant. The room included air conditioning and it is very close to the central bus station and ferries. We would certainly stay here again and recommend it to anyone traveling to the area.

I would definitely go there again. The staff were wonderful, the location perfect and the room was very nice. Just be careful to the fridge. Even though they won't admit it I had the suspicious that when we were out of the room all the electricity was switched off, included the fridge and in summertime it is not nice to go back to hot cans of coke!!! but for the rest perfect!!!

Perfect location in the centre of Amalfi and the hotel was welcoming and clean. Rooms were nice size. By far the best place I've stayed during my 8 days vacation in Italy...placed in the middle of Amalfi, I even had a view on the sea. When I had a question, thru the Internet I was answered promptly and in French on top of it (I'm french speaking). Personnel are all so very kind, caring, breakfast was awesome and the price was better than what I was expecting to pay. I strongly recommend this place to everybody for the best vacation ever. The location of Hotel L'Antico Convitto was superb! You are right in the centre of Amalfi, which incidently is a great location to tour around the coast from. The staff are friendly and they make a mean cappucino for breakfast! Room was clean and spacious. We stayed in a roon which had been recently renovated and it was certainly well done. Especially the shower! The only downside is that because of the central location, you will hear quite a bit of noise. Especially from the closeby Duomo which sounds its bells on regular occasions.

Very nice!!! Locations is wonderful and price very convenient. The only small problem (but it is not hotel's fault!) is the car parking: absolutely necessary in Amalfi, calculate 18 euros per day more. Breakfast was a little bit hectic.

I was not sure what to expect after staying in some other hotels at this same price range, and wow was I pleasantly surprised! The owner Gabriella was so friendly and helpful and speaks excellent English, as well as Francesca the other daytime clerk. The hotel is in the midst of remodeling and decorating and will soon have more rooms and an outdoors dining space. The room I was in was recently redone with a beautiful bathroom, new tiles on the floors as well as the walls. It was a very nice room. The breakfast had a good selection of foods and good cappucino (our group wore out the machine!) The location is excellent for the town of Amalfi, just up the main road from the piazza and a gentle incline, not a hike. There is a supermarket on the main floor of the building which is very convenient for water, soda, etc. The rooms also have a mini fridge to keep things cool. I was so happy to have this hotel after some scary experiences in the previous destination. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who would like a relaxing, comfortable hotel. It is not a 5 star property, but I enjoyed my whole experience. The staff knows you after the first day and that is rare these days. You will have a great vacation if you stay here!

This was the perfect hotel for our family. The location was an easy walk from the bus, the kitchen was useful, the room was pleasant and quiet, the breakfast provided was great, the staff was very helpful and considerate and the price was very reasonable. We would definitely come again. I would advise other travelers to get specific directions since the sign for the hotel is very small and it is off the main street down a tiny short alley inside a building with another hotel also located inside.

L'Antico Convitto is an excellent hotel. It is only 5 minutes walk from the mail square and the sea is only a short walk away. However, the hotel was far enough away from Piazza Duomo for there to not be any noise. The breakfast was very nice, with a wide selection of all kinds of foods - cereals, fruit, hot food etc, including delicious pastries. The room was a good size and with regards to cleanliness it was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful also. Overall, it is a very good hotel that I would happily recommend to any of my family and friends.

Accomadations were very good. Francisca was extremely helpful. She responded immediately to each email I sent and provided all the information I requested. At the hotel, she also provided very good advice on spending our time in the most enjoyable way. The breakfast was also very good. My only complaint would be the elevator. It is too small and needs to be painted at the very least. It is not a good entrance into such a good hotel, but that is my only concern.

A most unusual hotel. It's small (approx. 25 rooms) located on the 4th floor of a hidden building. Hard to find on a completely pedestrianised street......if arriving by car, ask hotel to e-mail a map, and even then you won't find it. Drive WAY PAST the Duomo. Best advice received: It's exactly opposite the Hotel Amalfi (which has a big sign). Parking garage is farther along the street. Dump your car right away. Parking is now 18 Euros per night, not 16 per their website. Very pleasant parking attendant, makes it supper easy. Hotel is well-run & efficient. The owner/proprietor is an energetic and pleasant young woman. Her staff is equally good. Breakfast is above average, though the breakfast room is an extension of the lobby. Don't stay here if you want lots of gooey charm, but it's efficient & clean & superb location. Overall good value. The rooms have been newly done & sport ample & modern bathrooms w/ one of the best showers seen on our trip.......even better than in 4 Star hotels!!!

Hotel was very difficult to find - map isn't good enough - hotel is located down a small alley on the 5th floor. If you are driving you need to drive on a heavily pedestrianized street - be warned. Staff were very helpful. My daughter was not happy with her lumpy pillow. Breakfast was pretty good. Major complaint - hotel indicated we needed to check in by 8 pm - we were stuck in traffic for 2 hours due to the fires around Amalfi (!) so we went to great efforts to call the hotel (our cell phone didn't work in Italy so we called to Ireland who called the hotel !) and they told us 'no problem - we're here all night.) Still - a nice place.

L'Antico Convitto is a very nice hotel in Amalfi. Of special note is the cleanliness of the hotel and the very helpful staff. You should note the following: the hotel is on the fourth floor of the building. It has an elevator, but one in which the passenger is required to completely close the door or the elevator will not operate. More often than not, the door was not fully closed, making for a long stairway walk. If you cannot easily negotiate stairs, you may have a problem.

Previous reviews were spot on. Location right in the heart of Amalfi so expect it to be busy and no space around the hotel but you are seconds from the centre of town. Welcome and service is outstanding. Gabriella and every one of her team were charming, helpful and friendly. The 100plus steps up to the 4th floor location are great exercise to counter the effects of too much gelati pasta or limoncello. The lift's fine if you prefer. We stayed 8 days and would have happily stayed longer. Amalfi makes a great centre for this part of Italy and this Hotel deserves its 1st class reviews

Just spent 22 days (April 9-30) in Italy as a single traveler: I stayed in 12 hotels priced from 50 to 80 Eur/night. I looked long and hard on the Internet to find the best hotels I could afford. In general, most of them are better than “budget/backpacker” hotels and you get great value for your buck. I cheated a bit with L’Antico Convitto, my second hotel in Amalfi, by booking a double room for single use. The room was huge and beautifully decorated and had an amazing view of orange trees and the Torre Dello Ziro up high in the mountains. The staff was great and breakfast was basic with bread and croissant, jam, yogurt, cereals, juice and coffee. The hotel is situated on the 4th floor, in a small alley near the Internet and Chiesa Santa Maria dell’Addolorata. It is about 5min. from the town center (quieter!). At 80 Eur/night, it was a bit more expensive but it was worth it: I rate it OUTSTANDING.

The staff and parking guy were so so helpful, couldnt ask for more. The rooms were lovely - ours adjoined the breakfast room and we lay in late so caught all the breakfast chatter, chairs on the tiled floor etc but that should teach us to get up earlier. The maid soon realised and left our room to the afternoon to clean. You do have to pay around 12 euros per day (negotiable off season) to park and it is off site but Gianluca who runs it is brilliant and even late at night you can call him to park up and he is with you in seconds. Wonderful location and couldnt have stayed in a better hotel. Only drive around here if you are very comfortable driving abroad and learn the Italian code of driving (I'm coming through!) as the coastal road is not for the faint-hearted.

Dear Gabriella sent email prior to our arrival making arrangements for parking (although we came by train to Salerno and then bus to Amalfi). On our late arrival she also telephoned a local restaurant to make sure they were still open for us. This hotel was definitely a highlight of our 16-day visit to Italy, huge room and jacuzzi bathroom, beautiful seaview and rooftops of Amalfi, very quiet both daytime and night, great breakfast, loved the nearby supermarket and Smeraldino restaurant on seafront. Our family had an excellent stay at the hotel. Clean and spacious rooms (even a tiny sea-view), very friendly and helpful staff tolerating kids running through the corridor. It is centrally situated just a few metres from the main street with 1 min. walk to the cathedral square. Food shop next door. The small sign for the hotel can be difficult to notice though. No windows in the breakfast area, but it's not a big problem. All in all it was well worth its price and we can certainly recommend this hotel to anyone.

The welcome from Gabriella and the rest of the staff was wonderful, and during the rest of our 10 night stay the staff were friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The room was fantastic, with modern and bright decor and furniture. Also, the room was very spacious, light and gave superb views from its two windows. The bathroom was enormous, with a fabulous jacuzzi shower which kept us entertained whilst getting clean. Bell towers proximity to hotel woke us up every morning at 7:00. Access for baggage transfer to/from auto was inconvenient. Car parking is about 2 blocks from hotel entrance.

We had a very relaxing stay here and the staff was extremely helpful, cheerful and friendly even via email before we arrived! The location was great - right in the heart of everything. The sound of the church bells ringing nearby every 15 minutes seemed a bit excessive but we got used to it and it's much more pleasant than, say, traffic. Recommended!

We travelled as a Family/Group for the wedding of our son Brian and his bride Cathy in nearby Ravello and stayed in 4/5 rooms at Hotel L'Antico Convitto for 5/6 nights. We had a wonderfull time and the location was perfect, the Managment and staff most helpfull and the breakfast fullfilling. The gentle rise from the beach to the hotel was not taxing but the lift to our floor was very pleasing. I would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel to our friends. Thank you for a most enjoyable stay. Joe Walsh. Cruckawn House, Tubbercurry, Co. Sligo. Ireland

We had the most wonderful stay - it was the final destination of our holiday and we certainly did save the best until last. Our room was everything we had hoped it would be and the location of the hotel could not have been better - very close to everything. The rooms were very quite apart from the bell that chimed in the adjacent bell tower every 15 minutes. It did not really bother us though and we would definitely stay there again if we return to Amalfi. Thank you to all the staff who were very accommodating.

Excellent Property. Only 3 minute walk from the marina (bus stops). Only 1 minute walk from Main Piazza. Very nice room - spacious and clean. Ferdinando was the night host and he was very pleasant and welcoming. I would highly recommend this place. The only mark on an otherwise excellent stay was the barking dog close by ( throughout part of the night ) and we could hear the guy snoring next door, but it wasn't enought to wake us up or keep us up. Breakfast was nice, and the service from the whole staff was wonderful. I don't think you will find a better value in Amalfi.

It was a wonderful hotel, the man on night duty at reception was particularly helpful with a lovely character, we had a lot to thank him for.the location was brilliant, a few seconds walk from anything worth seeing in amalfi. No complaints at all.

I absolutely love Amalfi as well as our hotel. The staff were extremely helpful before and during our visit. When I had questions they responded the same day and even went so far as to e-mail me a bus schedule that I requested. I would stay here again. I was very impressed.

The people at L'Antico Convitto were very friendly and welcoming. The room was great: spacious, quiet and it had a great view. The location was excellent too, just a 5 minute walk from the ferry and bus stops in Amalfi and it's right off the central square. Overall it seemed like an excellent value and we would definitely stay there again. Our particular room (#2) would easily work well for a young family.

This hotel was a complete surprise. The outside of the building is not that appealing but our room was fabulous and a great location from the main square. We stayed in many hotel in Italy and this one was just as good as the more expensive ones. Amalfi is beautiful and some fabulous restaurants can be found within a stones throw of the hotel

The Hotel was fantastic. It was in the center of Amalfi and you could reach everything (restaurants, dome, beach, etc.)very quick. The room was very big and clean and the shower was a funny experience. The employees were very helpful and breakfast was OK.

We were exceptionally happy with the customer service given to us. They couldn't do enough for you. There guidance and recommendations were excellent. They even contacted us to see whether we had arrived at our next destination. Would recommend and would return if in the area again.

This hotel was absoluteley fantastic! It is directly in the historical center of Amalfi. The room was beautiful and the forgot to tell us about the best part: there was a jacuzzi in it! We absoluteley loved it here. Only drawback: parking in Amalfi is complicated, the hotel parking lot cost 18 EUR extra for one day.

An antique convertion perfectly describes this hotel. No expence has been spared, beautiful rooms. Central, dropping off luggage is a problem if solo. Enjoyed my stay, would go again. Thank you.

Our stay at the Antico Convitto exceeded all our expectations! The familly room was big, even for four people, well equipped (small kitchen & fridge), very clean & nice. The hotel location is perfect: in the center of Amalfi, but only accessible for pedestrians (just forget driving a car in Amalfi... the hotel reception sent us somebody to show us the way to the garage and help us carrying our luggages), the place was a heaven of peace, in the middle of tourists and municipal election campaign. Last but not least, the personal and reception is an example of readyness and kindness.

Perfect location in the best town on the Amalfi Coast. The best accommodation we stayed at in our month-long tour of Italy & also the friendliest & most helpful staff/owners we encountered. A great place to explore the awesome Amalfi Coast.

Everything was at the announced level. The main progress that has to be done is in the quality and variety of the breakfast.
