Very nice hotel and every room has a terrace with an awesome view of the sea. Take note that the Cave bar is not open and pool is not kept clean during "off-season" beginning in mid-October.

TV didn't work. Telephones were supposedly out for 2 days but we stayed there 3 days and the people leaving said they had been out the whole time they were there and a semi-permanent sign was up. So go figure. Telephones didn't work. We were in a room between a family. The parents were on one side of us and the teenage or college age boys, 3 of them, on the other side of us. The foul mouths and noise coming from that room was terrible, and late into the night. No wonder Mom & Dad don't want to be right next door to them. I think the Hotel should have seen that coming... Room was nice, the view was spectacular.

Posizione eccellente, con vista su Amalfi mozzafiato. Dovrebbero rinnovare un pò l'arredamento...è anni 70! Le camere risultano rumorosissime...si sente praticamente anche quando uno va al bagno nelle altre stanze!

The Hotel itself was great, however the beds and pillows were terribly uncomfortable which made getting a good nights sleep impossible. The hotel should consider some sort of lounge chairs that you can put your legs up on while relaxing by the pool.

We had planned to treat ourselves by spending more than we normally do on accomidations because Florence was in the middle of our trip, and we figured we would appreciate a little more comfort at that point. We had no idea how truly wonderful the stay would be. Everything was really fantastic. The location of the hotel was key to our terrific experience in Florence. The staff was very polite and very, very helpful - even though they were clearly extremly busy all the time with numerous request from many guest. Our rooms were very nice, clean and quiet. We had a great time. We never thought twice about if it was worth the money once we arrived.

Thos is a luxurious Hotel at one of the sweet spots of the Amalfi coast. The Hotel is obviously still caught in the 1970ties, giving everything a moody retro ambiente. We liked it, but modern Hotel organization and customer orientation is something else. However might not be expected in Italy as such...

Everything was perfect on this coast, beautiful landscapes, water, food, ... The perfect country. But we were very, very disppointed about this hotel. Why? - The swimming pool closes at 6 P.M... Never seen that before. - Breakfast, crap, not interesting, never a change... Better not to eat. We never tried the hotel restaurant, but if it's the same... no thanks. - The worst: the rooms are so, so, so noisy. In fact there is just one wooden door which closes between the rooms. So you hear everything. EVERYTHING. And when you have walked all day, it's nice to be in peace. I love Italians, but they speak too loud. - The overall furniture is very old and tacky... - Bathroom, very poor... - and finally, they say the hotel has a private beach. But even as a hotel customer, you have to pay 10 Euros per personn if you want to stay there. So, all these little details cost us 180 Euros per night which I think is absolutely not worth being in a 4 stars hotel. Yes, the view is fantastic, but please note that every hotel, houses, have a view on this coast... We will come back in this paradise country, but not in this hotel.

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Grand Excelsior. The property alltogether did match our expectations, taking into account that it's not one of the very expensive hotels around;our room was spacious, quiet & very clean. The view was fantastic!!I believe one of the very best around Amalfi. The only suggestion I'd make to them would be to upgrade the TV sets-which are ridicously small, and very "ancient",but that's a minor problem when you look at the paradise from your terrace. Regarding other facilities in the hotel I can say the following: a)It's not a modern hotel! But it's still fairly well kept & confortable. b)Breakfast is ok not more, there's no change from day to day,I'd advise them also to offer vegetables & fresh fruits in the buffet. c)We had our breakf.during our stay of 6 days and must mention the service in the dining room:it was just great!the whole team was efficient, and above all Mr.Antonio Caprio, always with a friendly smile & ready to assist. d)Swimming pool should be cleaner. Overall, again we feel that we got a rather good value, and had a good time.

Parking in the hotel free that's a plus , the hotel is not as close to Amalfi as you may think. Views from ( from ocean rooms ) are spectacular

The Hotel doesn't look good from the outside. Once inside is good. Has a marvelous view of the sea, but it is not located in Amalfi but in a very tiny town on the top of the mountain. Nevertheless the hotel offer free transportation to AMALFI or you can use the service of public transportation to go down the hill. The food is good and they offer a menu, which is reasonably priced. Good service and nice people.

We visited The Excelsior Grand Hotel in October 2003. The hotel looked as if it had been built in the 60's and no money had been invested in it since. The breakfasts were dreadful; there was little choice - two cereals, two containers of yoghurt, processed ham, processed cheese, dry bread, croissants and packet French toast and jams. The same thing everyday and if they ran out that was it, even for something as simple as cornflakes. By the end of the week we went into Amalfi for breakfast. The food in the restaurant was poor and after a couple of meals we avoided it all costs. The wine was very expensive. A little further up the hill there is a village with a good family restaurant. The hotel is a long way out of Amalfi and we did rely on the Sita bus to get around, the hotel also runs a reliable bus. Beware booking a taxi, we were charged 48 euros, one way into Amalfi, as opposed to 1 euro on the bus; compare this to the 100 euros it cost for the taxi from Naples to the hotel and you can see that the taxi to Amalfi was very expensive! The room was adequate, but the bed was as hard as a board with nasty foam chip pillows, which were quite grubby. Nice bathroom though with a jacuzzi bath. The views from the hotel are breathtaking and the staff were very helpful and considerate, but that is not enough to make us want to return.

We had a suite rather than a single bedroom. We were not expecting that and it was a pleasant surprise. The room was spotless although the shower over the bath was a little primitive with a broken shower guard. Consequently, you had to be careful not to spray water over the bathroom floor. The water was never really hot so we never used the cold tap whilst having a shower! The location was beautiful with a stunning view from our large balcony. There is a regular (and on-time)hotel bus service to Amalfi. This is very useful since it is impossible to park a car there. We were surprised to find that there was a Euro 9.50 charge to use their beach for the day. At those daily rates it should be included. Otherwise, the hotel's food is nothing to get excited by but OK and the coffee is very weak. I heard many people try to get a better coffee for breakfast - apparently it was not possible! The staff mostly spoke good English and were friendly. We would certainly consider this hotel for a future visit.

The hotel itself is in a good spectacular position and the room in general, particularly the view from the hotel balcony, did not disappoint, but the food certainly did. Luckily we went B&B only and ate one evening meal only at the hotel. I'd recommend that other do the same - there are good restaurants in Amalfi. My only other comment was the decor - if Austen Powers is your thing man, this late 70's groove is for you. The rest of the hotel clientele were also a bit ... old (I'm 35 so you can guess what I mean by "old"). Apart from these things, staff were friendly and helpful.

An excellently situated hotel with friendly staff providing more tha satisfactory service, food, etc. We were pleasantly surprised to have evening music and special dinners which certainly added to our appreciation of the hotel. The disco music did however need to be more up-to-date to satisfy our teenage daughter.

Was certainly a grand hotel when it was built (1967 I think) but no one has up dated anything since, thought I was on the set of Dr. No! Booked for 3 nights and stayed 1, how it can still call itself a 4 star is a joke, and they gave us a suite as well, can't imagine what the standard rooms are like!

This hotel was superb apart from the food which was a major let down. Whilst half board is a very cheap option the meals were nothing special. I suppose you get what you pay for, however even the breakfast was poor. If the food had been better I could not fault the hotel, the views are spectacular. Try to book room 720 - its amazing.
