Built in the 50s by architect Simon Mossa, this 5-star hotel has the shape of an ocean liner, with its stern laid down on the rocks, enriched by Spanish-style arches and balconies. Fully redecorated and refurbished, today Hotel El Faro still evokes the splendour of the 50s, when it hosted famous movie stars like Anthony Queen and Liz Taylor.

The El Faro hotel organizes lovely guided excursions on foot, by boat or mountain bike, as well as horse back riding tours (on typical Sardinia horses): you can discover the Punta Giglio natural reserve on the Rudedu mountain, with its Mediterranean scrub, the famous Grotte di Nettuno caves, or explore the Arca di Noè natural reserve on the Timidone mountain, and admire breathtaking sunsets over the sea and Piana Island. Daily excursions can also be arranged to the island of Asinara and the Medieval town of Bosa.

Snorkelling and diving lovers can experience an excursion in a cave with an expert guide and, if they are lucky, admire a lobster's amazing undersea walk! Weather conditions are extremely favourable for windsurfing and sailing in June, July and September.
In this area you will also find a particular vegetation, for its appearance and unique plants such as the dwarf palm, the myrtle, the mastic, the strawberry tree, the cistus, the aloe and the agaves.

Perfect if you have a car. Only downside is that the hotel only offers an evening bus to town, not a return. Also, limits lunch meal choice if can't leave the hotel (whether an issue is the opinion of the visitor).

we travelled as newlyweds. however, upon arrival, we were very disapointed with room provided as "honeymoon suite". no indication whatsoever that we were actually on our honeymoon. not an advisable hotel as a destination for a honeymoon. also no value for money whatsoever.€12 for 2 coffee's? very overpriced

Your web-site states tennis courts but there are none. Seems geared towards package tours where rep arranges visits etc

The hotel facilities are good,but the service was not good. The tell you where te bus comes but didn't gave a ticket. They forgot to call the taxi by leaving to the aerport. we already pay foor the taxi and the taxi that drives us to the airport wanted to pay for the drive and the hotel didn't answer my phone call, 4 calls and only the first time they picked up. No style for a 5 star hotel, I think its 4 stars.

Fanstatic hotel, not really suitable for families with children. Also you need a hired car if staying here as in the middle of no where.

A lovely hotel - the photos on the website do not do it justice! We were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived to find that the hotel had been upgraded to 5 stars (although still advertised as 4 stars). The service was discrete but friendly and the staff bent over backwards to help us in any way they could. Our room had a wonderful view and the marble bathroom was fantastic. Food was (as you'd expect) very good - both in the restaurant and on the snack menu in the bar. Facilities were good, we didn't see the tennis courts but the pools were both clean and well kept and the sauna was effective...if a bit old! Buses into Alghero stop early in the evening in the low season, and taxis are quite expensive (€25 one way) so if you're there out of season we'd recommend hiring a car as it's quite remote. Overall, a lovely place to stay.

From Alghero airport proceed in the direction of Fertilia and then towards Capo Caccia until you reach Porto Conte. Once in Fertlia, at the crossroad, turn left towards Porto Conte and after approximately 1.2 miles/2 km you will arrive at Hotel El Faro.
