The service at Carlos V was outstanding the staff were the best I have come accross. Very clean hotel with a high quality of service offered. We stayed one week. Only complaints are the below: We were not shown where are room was and were not helped with our bags upon arrival perhaps this is the norm. Also we thought that a gym may have been available at the hotel considering the money we paid was quite high. Overall very happy with our stay there would go back again if we could afford it.

Breakfast not great for a supposedly 5 star, information book stated breakfast from 7.30 to 11.30 we went down one morning at 10.25 and the restaurant was closed, called reception to be informed that breakfast finishes at 10.30 off season this was contrary to what we read so no breakfast that morning. apart from that the staff are great couldnt have been better, the snack bar was very limited only toasted cheese and ham sandwiches, but good selection from room service menu and reasonably priced. Would recommend this hotel but not 5 star.

Beautiful room, friendly employees, fantastic view. One minor point: the food in the restaurant is mediocre, without local flavours

Plenty of good restaurants within 15 mins on foot- a beautiful walk by the sea to the old town.Lunch in the hotel closes early - only sandwiches available after that. Breakfast has very good choice ( fresh pineapple is delicious) but service is slow and disorganised which is hard to achieve when all waiters have to do is allocate/set tables and get tea/coffee! Hierarchical system- whitecoat takes your order and then farms it out to a plain uniform who is already busy and so on

I am sorry to report in this terms, but this hotel is supposed to be a 5*, and the service you get is from a 3* having in mind it was low season, even worse. Meaning you pay 5* and get a 3*service and entourage. Starting at the breakfast, a poor selection and already boring at the second day. The swimming pools had dirty water and were suddenly emptied. I paid an extra fee to face the sea, but it was the second-lined building, facing the pools. Having such a view in front of your room is depressing. Next time i will choose any other option, sorry to put it this way, but this is one of the most expensive hotels in Alghero. I wonder what the other hotels are like.

We have just arrived back from a week in beautiful Sardinia. Flying into Alghero fairly late, we decided to spend three nights close to the airport before moving onto the north east coast. Our first three nights were spent at the Carlos V hotel. Some 15 minutes from the airport (taxi 24 euros) and a very pleasant 15 minute stroll along the sea front from Alghero old town. We booked an executive (new room) through Venere.com (some 200 euros cheaper than the quote direct from hotel). The hotel has two types of rooms (old & new). The new rooms are about 20 euros/night more expensive but are certainly worth every penny. The new rooms and the corridors that lead to them have been renovated to a very high degree. If all the rooms where furnished to the same standard the star rating of the hotel would certainly jump. They are large and airy, have adjustable air conditioning, kingsize+ beds, mini bar, lcd tv (limited english channels) and a small table and comfy chairs. The bathrooms are fantastic, all cream marble including bath surround, twin basins, a good shower, proper hair dryer and nice accessories. But enough of the rooms. The rest of the hotel was spotlessly clean with nice public areas. Lunch/dinner could be taken in the covered terrased area on the first floor overlooking the bay. Having read other reviews, I was sceptical about breakfast but was pleasantly surprised. A buffet style continental breakfast with a choice of cereals, toast, fruit, juices, breads and for anyone wishing something hot, sausages, bacon and egg. The staff were always very helpful and nothing seemed too much trouble. The pool area again overlooking the bay had plenty of beds and umbrellas. There were two pools, a very large salt water (don't be put off!) and a smaller shallow childrens pool. A life guard was always on duty. We decided to stay on a bed & breakfast basis, being so close to Alghero, so we dined out at some of the many restaurants in the old town. Alghero comes alive

El preu és una mica massa elevat, i les habitacions i ascensors de l'hotel estàn una mica antiquades, tot i això les prestacions i el servei són bons.

A cool oasis in an otherwise very hot Alghero. Staff courteous and helpful. Internal signs a little unclear, but most facilities easy to find. Rooms comfortable. Breakfast OK. Bar facilities good (filled rolls, crisps, etc. available well into the evening). Kids (10 and 8 years old) particularly liked the large open air saltwater swimming pool (very conveniently [for the adults!] situated adjacent to the bar).

Stayed in one of the new rooms, which received a new piece of furniture ever day! New rooms & new corridors are very plush, however, old rooms & corridors do need a face lift. Hotel was very clean & is in a great location south of the old town, 10-15 min walk. Breakfast very ordinary. Reception staff we met were not friendly nor customer focused. We had to pay 80euro to keep the room until 4! Swimming pool area is good & view from the terrace is fabulous.

A nice hotel about 5 to 10 minutes walk down to the old town area. Particularly good pool for swimming in as a decent size, but you need goggles as it is a salt water pool. The hotel also has 2 tennis courts which are always empty as few people bring any tennis equipment with them. I would definitely recommend this hotel as a good place to get away for a long weekend break. The main beaches however are on the other side of the town, so not really a place for anyone wishing to stretch out on a sandy beach.

We enjoyed our stay at Carlos V very much. Our room was spacious and had its own terrace. The hotel had a very good range of facilities: the bar, which opened onto the terrace and pool, was open whenever we wanted to use it and the staff were always welcoming. We did not use the pool (a cool breeze!) but it was immaculate and a life guard was on duty from 10am - 6pm. We ate in the hotel restaurant on the evening of our arrivel and the food was of a high standard. The restaurant staff ( both at dinner and breakfast) were most helpful and friendly. When we received our bill we were pleasantly surprised by the cost of our 3 course meal for two with wine: excellent value for money! A few small quibbles: although all the other staff we met were very friendly, the desk staff remained somewhat aloof. The check-out time of 10am was early: 12 midday is more usual. The locks on our room door and terrace were a little flimsy, and given that many guests would want to make use of the pool, a safety deposit box in all rooms in which to leave jewellery and valuables would be welcome. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would use the hotel again.

Good things: a large well-maintained swimming pool in a beautiful setting; good-sized, reasonably equiped rooms; generally friendly staff who spoke good English; very reasonable prices. Bad things: toilet flush in on-suite bathroom did not work properly; rooms not very sound-proof.

Swimming pool is great but the hotel is a bit jaded and is in need of its current facelift - I am sure it will look great when it is done - rooms are not 4*. Not able to use the tennis courts because of building works.

Hotel difficult to find without asking in an other hotel for the way - very bad hint in map where in Alghero to search for the hotel - here the GPS-data for You: N 40°32'57'' E 08°19'16''. The hotel had its best times 20 yrs ago, but still charme. 10 min walk into the old town. They do have breakfast included for the price - nowhere we found a hint in the venere-data about that. Breakfast was ok - different sorts of small bread (Broetchen) and enough of all the other things. secured parking.

This is a reasonable hotel in a good location. The staff are discreet and helpfull with good english language skills. However, the buffet breakfast is poor for a 4 Star hotel. I have had fresher, tastier breakfasts in inferior star rated hotels in Italy. Overall, a relaxing stay.

We found the Hotel Carlos V to be just as we had expected from the description given. We visited in the winter time and therefore we did not expect the hotel would be very busy and that all facilities would be open. I would imagine that in the height of the season the hotel would take on a whole new dimension. The pool area looked inviting and had a magnificant view of the sea but the pools were closed. We paid approximately £6 per night extra for a sea view which we thought was well worth it but it did make the overall cost we thought a bit on the expensive side. Breakfast was continental and we found it to be rather motononous but the restaurant staff were really friendly and very efficient as was the hotel porter. Unfortunately because of the season the restaurant itself was not open but the town was within walking distance and there was plenty of choice there. The hotel bar usually stayed open late and there was time to relax in the comfortable chairs in the large lounge/reception area. Yes we enjoyed our stay at Carlos V

The hotel, albeit supposedly 4 star, was rather antiquated and the rooms were incredibly basic and offered absolutely no comforts the like of which you would expect from a 4 star hotel. Had I, as a guest, been asked to rate the hotel, I would have given it only 2 stars - you can imagine my complete disappointment. I was told the room would be available from 12.00pm and by 4.00pm we were still waiting to go into our room as "there is no chamber maid today!" Very disappointing in terms of the hotel - the service from the website was, however, both easy to use and efficient.

The hotel was very dated & we renamed it boot camp. There was a sign for everything you are not allowed to do. If there's no sign, assume you can't do it anyway. There was even a sign on our balcony door saying do not open!! 4 star my arse! on check in we were immediately told do not put anything in the minibar and do not consume anything not bought in the hotel! Upon checking the minibar there was next to nothing in it anyway - we'd have gone a bit thirsty! We only booked it because it had a pool, then we never went in it as the beaches are so lovely. My advice is to stay in the centre of the old town, (rent an apartment if necessary) and go to the beach. Great resort, we'll be going back, not the Stalag Carlos V though. Oh, they tried to over charge us by 13EU a day as well.
