positive points : good location close to the railway & bus station (but you can't find with google map). public area is many, spacious and convivial. staff are very helpful. good cost-performance for venice in summer period. regrettable points : soundproofing is poor if you stay in individual room, you won't appreciate the cleaning of the room during the stay.

the hostel is great, in the center of Venezia, at 8 - 10 min walk from the Rialto bridge. But don't forget that is a youth hostel, so it can be a little noisy. Cheaper for students.

Domus Civica is perfect for who want to visit the places of Venice for a weekend or a mini-vacation, because it is a small hotel that offers clean rooms for sleeping, both single and shared, and is located a short walk from the V.Santa Lucia train station and it is near Piazzale Roma. Excellent quality / price ratio, considering that it is a place located near to most important places of the italian sea city, appreciated all over the world. I chose the single room, and in my opinion it was clean, there is also a sink in the room. In the structure there is also an elevator and shared toilets on the each floor. Unfortunately there is not breakfast, no tv, no air conditioning and the furniture is a old. Internet Wifi connections is no free, no gratis. However my judgment is positive overall.

Good things about this hostel: Amazing balcony Staff was very nice and helpful. Great location. Areas for improvement: There were many mosquitoes in the rooms. The rooms got very hot. There were no fans or AC. The website should be more clear that no one can leave or enter the hostel between midnight and 7AM. The bathrooms were often smelly and there was no soap.

Staff components were nice. They help us and gave good information. The room was not so OK. Very small and in bad size. Very warm rooms. The floors was unquiet. A lot of rooms near together... Area of the hotel is good but I cold find another one with lower price before. Totally, good memories from Venice affected by bad quality of this hotel... I don't suggest you at all

i went to venice with my partner and we are both aged mid thirties. It was the first time we had visited venice and I was a bit worried about finding my way to the hotel. However, it really was only a few minutes walk from the main bus station. we fly with Ryan air to treviso and the flight attendants sold the bus tickets on the plane. I think they cost 13 euro return each. From the bus station don't go over the big new bridge, go over the second one in from the new bridge and under the archway with the park on your left. follow the hotel directions on their site, but ignore the bit about the vodaphone shop as we couldn't see that and go straight forward under the arch and the hotel will be in front on the right. the position is fantastic. its a 20 min walk to Rialta bridge and slightly longer to san marco square. the night time curfew really wasn't a problem as there is not much open and limited things to do at night anyway. The reception staff were very sweet and helpful. the toilets and showers were clean and working. Rooms were single beds but we just pushed ours together. The room was spacious with a big wardrobe and a sink. Towels and sheets provided. the church bells rang at 8am each morning but I image with the number of churches around you wont be too far from a church bell where ever you stay. Overall, for the centre of Venice this place is great value for money and exactly what we wanted. I would definitely recommend it to others and go there again. its a great base for sight seeing. hint: food can be expensive so check out trip advisor and make a note of a few bargin places. We went to a recommended panani shop and it was well worth it.

The location is less than 15mins away from the train station. It is easy to find as it is smacked at the center of a cross junction. The price is reasonable considering that it is in Venice! However, this is a dormitory style so bear with the noise around.

We had a fabulous stay and would definitely recommend this hostel to just about anyone. It is a little tricky to find but once you are there its a brilliant place. The staff on the front desk could not be faulted and went out of their way to ensure our comfort and happiness. Brilliant surroundings, close to the Piazza le Roma so good links to transport and a decent walk to other attractions if you're up for it. We had a simply beautiful room, spacious clean and comfortable. Absolutely pay this lovely hostel a visit!

Ostello Domus Civica exceeded our expectations and we would be very happy to stay there again. It is less than 15 minutes on foot from the bus station in Piazzale Roma. From the bus station, cross the bridge to the Giardini Papadopoli, a small park, which you cross heading for the Hotel Papadopoli, then cross the bridge heading East into the Corte di Amai, which becomes the Calle Sacchere. Keep going over another bridge and the Ostello Domus Civica is at an intersection of five "roads" (Venetian style). The hostel will be on your right and the entrance, which is on a corner, will be over your right shoulder when you've gone just past it, which you must to read the name above the door. The five roads which meet are Calle Sacchere, Ramo Cimasin, Calle de Campezzo, Calle de Mezo and Calle delle Chiovere, which is the eastwards continuation of Calle Sacchere. The staff were really friendly and helpful. On your last day, you can leave your luggage in the hostel if you still have time for more sightseeing. Accommodation is simple but clean and perfectly adequate. Single rooms are available. The toilet and shower are shared but convenient and clean, though one of the shower doors couldn't be locked and the toilet lock needed some fiddling to shut (3rd floor). The café with green awnings a few steps away on the other side of Ramo Cimesin is great for a breakfast of caffè macchiato and cornetto (= croissant), repeat as required. To get back to the hostel from other parts of Venice, follow signs for Piazzale Roma. Free maps of Venice were available at reception which are as good as if not better than the ones on sale at the bus station. Two of the most important art sites in Venice/Europe/the World, the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, and I Frari are a few minutes walk from the hostel. Enjoy your visit!

There are no mosquito net. There are no electric fan. Venice is really hot and humid. and many mosquitoes. The room was no mosquito net and electric fan. So I am Sleep with the windows closed. I could not sleep all days. The walls there are traces of dead mosquitoes. But location is really good. I recomment you are take electro mosquito coil and portable fan. Don't forget! There are additional payment - 2euro per day.(city tax not included)

Good location. ~5-7minutes to the bus station and near every other attractions. Hostel is clean. Staffs were friendly and very helpful. They provided clean sheets and towels for the 2 nights stay. Just ask for soap if you haven't brought any. Quite noisy surrounding at night. Check out time at 10am, not 12pm but they let you leave your luggage for free for the rest of the day. they provide free map for guests which is nice. Directions from the internet can be quite confusing and there are many bridges there so i initially didn't know which bridge to use. Direction from P. Roma (bus station)- Use the middle bridge near the street vendors (you will see the stalls near the river). Cross the 2 bridges (can see a park and hotel papadopolli on your left, police station on your right). at the end of the road, turn left and walk straight. Cross another bridge and you'll see the hostel on your right (number 3082). the wordings are kinda transparent so keep on the lookout for no. 3082 after the third bridge. hope this direction helps. If you want to go anywhere, just ask the staffs for directions and they will gladly help you. In summer, it's quite hot in venice and there was no fan in the hostel so you have to open the window. However, this will attract mosquitoes so don't forget to bring the insect repellent cream. All in all, a good value for the price.

I liked the hotel. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The hotel is close to railway station. However, in order to find the hotel easily ask where the compi Di San Rocco are, then find the hotel by street number. Do not try to find the hotel by the street name, because San Polo is the name of the whole district, so you will spend hours to find the hotel if you try to find it by street name only. Also make sure your passport is with you because they ask for passport number.

Domus Civica is a girls only school dorm rented to the public through the end of September. It is a 5 minute walk from the bus station, and a few minutes more from the train station, then a hour to find someone who knows exactly where it really is! <g> By far the hardest part is to spot the nearly transparent building letters etched into a glass panel over the front doors (which you can only barely see IF you turn around and look back the direction you came from arriving and know exactly where to look as you're going past the street it is on the corner of. Took 4 local people, including 2 local police, to finally find it. I repeatedly missed the sign due to it being so blended into the building. There were at least 45 college age or younger girls who loved to chatter well past midnight. This would not have been a problem if the halls didn't echo (typical dorm) and the doors weren't thin and the windows above the door's opened so that chatter echoed down the halls late at night. Mosquitos were an issue because the room was hot with no air conditioning and opening the window was the only choice because the halls were so noisy. Also, the hall lights glared into the room through the window above the door late into the night. The chair in the room made a lot of noise when moved even slightly across the floor, so it was difficult to respect the neighbors. The single bed frame was squeaky and the bed was uncomfortably hard. I understand the excitement (and thus noise generation) of being in a new place and the lack of appreciation that some folks get up early for various reasons (like catching a flight!) I don't understand the lack of arrangements to deal with the hall light glaring into the room late into the night, noisy chairs, and mosquitos. I've stayed in dorms before that did not have these issues. IMPORTANT reminder, as listed in the description, being unable to leave the building prior to 7 AM (front door locked both ways) could be a BIG problem f

It's a no-frills lodge. Functional. Clean but old. The hotel is not cheap to spend much money on an expensive city like Venice. It is best where it is located. 20 minutes from San Marcos. Traghetto 5 minutes from Sao Tome. 10 minutes from Rialto. 10 minutes from the train station.

Generally this place is ok. It's right in Venice (and only 5min from train station) so it's easy to get to all destinations in Venice. The staff spoke English well and were friendly. Internet is available in the room, but comes at an extra fee. The room was fairly clean and so were the bathrooms. Our room had a bunk bed that was a little uncomfortable, but lots of space for storing things. Our window over looked a busy street and part of a small canal. Was usually quite noisy until about midnight. Even the hallways were noisy and it always sounded like everybody was slamming their room doors. There was also only 2 outlets in the room. One thing that turned me off is that the building is locked from 1230am to 7am. So nobody in, nobody out. Makes it a little difficult to catch an early train. I would only stay here again if I was in a pinch.

While this hotel might appeal for backpackers, it's not suitable for adults travelling on budget. Big, noisy, dorm-like, doors banging day and night. And they have a curfew: no entering or going out between 0:30 and 7 am. There are smaller and cozier options even in this price range.

The hotel is satisfactory but they have a policy of locked doors between 12:30 AM and 7 AM. This means early travellers need to make special arrangements to leave. This involves getting someone to open up and being tipped for it.

Me and my girlfriend were really pleased with our stay at the Inn Domus Civica. The staff was very nice and helpful. The location is great, so it should be perfect for a non-demanding visitor of Venice. The only flaw we can bring out, is that the locker in one WC was not working and there were generally no soap in WCs. Luckily, we had our own soap.

The people make the difference here! Everyone was extremely nice and helpful, even remembering my name and room number when I walked in. Very helpful concerning sights, transportation, directions, etc. Emanuele is the best! Big welcoming smile, helpful and chatty. Location was good, near enough to Piazza Roma and the train station. Rooms were fine - this is a student residence rented out in summer, and that's exactly what it looks like. I booked a single with shared bathroom for 4 nights. Room was large for a single, bathrooms were always free. Mine was noisy as the room faced a fairly well-travelled route. Overall very happy with my choice, wish it was open all year round!

Excellent location, very close to the train station and walking distance to the major tourist attractions. I got a private room for the cost of a bed in a dorm in many other hostels. My only problems were that the only computer with internet wasn't working and it's annoying to have to hand in your key every time you go out - paying a deposit for the key would be much better.
