Great accommodation: very spacious room, clean, everything working properly. A few steps to climb up and down from the street if you go on foot with a lot of baggage is the only (slight) inconvenience I can find.

I never thought I would find such a nice hotel in Sorrento for such a great price. The staff was extremely accomodating, the location was great, and the room was big, clean, and comfortable. They also have a great spa/gym, but we were so enamored with the city we didn't have time to spend at it.

The staff was excellent. We were made to feel at home and they provided excellent references for places to eat and helped line up transportation.

Upon our arrival at the "hostel", we were greeted with friendly and very helpful staff. The room was comfortable, clean and quiet. For the price and the service, I would highly recommend this place to others. Furthermore, although the name says hostel, it was definitely NOT a hostel and was better than many of the other hotels we stayed at on our trip in Italy.

This hotel is a bargain for the price especially in Sorrento. The breakfast is the best for 5 euros each. The rooms are large and so is the shower which is unusual for accommodations at this price. Internet costs 5 euro/hr. Our room on the inner courtyard was very quiet. A short walk down to Marina Grande takes you to some nice seafood restaurants. We really liked Emilia's Trattoria. The Hostel is a very convenient location to restaurants and shopping. It is a long walk to the train and bus station. Get a collectivo cab if you can. If I did this trip over, I would stay here and take ferries and buses to places on the Amalfi Coast and to the islands. You would save a lot of money and have better accommodations. We took a ferry to Capri from here. Get a ferry schedule at the tourist information center on Piazza Tassou and take the one that is 30 euro but runs more frequently. Capri is very expensive and can wear you out. Give yourself a couple of days to explore Sorrento.

While the establishment is well appointed and inexpensive, there are a couple of things that the Ulysse could improve. Mainly that the lobby area imposes noise on the floors directly above, and that they insist on making air conditioning unavailable because "it's winter". If I have to sleep with my window open and there is plenty of noise coming from downstairs, how can I sleep? Otherwise, the rooms are nice and clean, and the staff was charming, but too many "no's" made our stay a little less pleasant.

The price and the pictures on the web site is what attracted us to this property. The room we had was just as spacious as described with a very nice and modern bathroom including a bath which I had never seen in other hotels in Italy. However we found that the room was not that clean. We found all kinds of hair on the floor and one evening upon returning to our room there was a little field mouse running around in the hallway....We were there for 6 nights and the sheets on our bed were changed after the 5th night only. The Staff at the front desk were very helpful and very friendly.I don't think this type of hotel would appeal to most people as it doesn't look nice from the outside as it is situated under a parking lot. However it is great deal for someone on a low budget.

Ulisse Deluxe Hostel was the best accommodation we had in our three week stay in Italy. The staff were exceptional in terms of helping to get tours booked, suggestions for restaurants. The building was great for having a relaxing coffee, wine or playing cards. Exceptional value for the money.

Not your typical hostel! This property is better described as a very nice hotel with elegent appearance, which also has hostel. Staff very nice, well-mannered. Breakfast is 5 euros but worth it, expected variety on buffet. Our room was well-sized and clean as was bathroom. We used this as our base for exploring extended area thru daytrips and were happy overall. Our only dissatisfaction was a noise problem, which we'd read about from other reviewers. We were on lower level and were repeatedly awakened by chairs scooting across floor (marble/ceramic tile) above us well into night. Turns out we were below internet room, of course used a lot at night...Our last night we stayed on 2nd floor and had much quieter night. Weekend had some noise from the hostelling kids but nothing crazy or unexpected, they were actually kind of cute. Nice place to stay.

When visiting the Amalfi Coast, I can think of few hotels that could provide the same experience and leave you with a few Euro's for the rest of your vacation.

After booking the hostel/hotel I was a bit concerned after reading reviews on other sites describing the hostel as being under a car park and that the rooms were noisy. However, given the price and the photos of the rooms I decided to give it a go and just use it as a place to sleep. Upon arriving at the Hostel I was pleasantly surprised. I would say a more accurate description of the hostel is that there is a small car park on the roof rather than being built under a car park! The rooms were spacious, quiet, modern, light and airy. Unfortunately the double rooms had two single beds pushed together to make a double so the beds were not particularly comfortable and I was not too happy at having to pay for air- conditioning as it was far too hot to sleep without it. Furthermore the air-con didn't work when I did pay for it! I was a little annoyed when I found out that despite what you set on the thermostat the staff can set a minimum temperature on their computer. After being fobbed off several times I insisted that a member of staff visited the room and after going through the motions admitted that it wasn't working in most of the other rooms either... In the hostels defence when it came to checking out they agreed to waive the charge with little protest. Breakfast was dire. Even the coffee was terrible which was a surprise as I didn't think it would be possible to get poor coffee in Italy! The bar was good, if a little over priced. The staff were very friendly and polite. They were happy to go out of their way to have a chat or to provide assistance. However, if you were to complain about anything they were a little too quick to mention that they were the cheapest place around. Overall, I would say it is a fantastic place to stay if you are happy to make a few compromises. I would consider returning but I'd also consider paying more to stay elsewhere!

Quiet, clean and spacious. Staff very pleasant and helpful. No views but no problem as we spent our days outside sightseeing and hiking. Did not have breakfast at the hostel as we found the alimentari next door had a good selection of juices breads and yogurt. I like the fact that they keep their room rates down by charging extra to those that want extras and that those that do not want the extras do not have to pay for them. A great place if you want a place to stay while visiting the Sorrento area and do not need a resort

First if it wasn't for the checkout, we would have loved this place. The manager tried to rip us off! no kidding! I had my Venere printout in front of me and he completly ignored it and tried to make like we just didn't understand. He charged us for the breakfast buffet, which we did not have. We had the light breakfast which is bread and coffee, listed as included. Then they charged us for the bidet even though we never asked for or used it. I also never got my 4% discount from Venere, even though it was on my confirmation. He argued what a great deal he was still giving us compared to the other hotels in the area. I just wanted to pay what was quoted us from Venere. This is a great hotel, but beware of the hidden costs and make sure you stick to your guns. He finally backed down in the end and charged us within 10 euros of the quoted price.
