A rock band was rehearsing somewhere in the building until almost midnight the first night I stayed and I could hear music playing somewhere until midnight on the 2nd night . The "front desk" was not staffed after 7pm. When I checked in for a 2 night stay I was told I could park in a garage next door for $20 a day What they didn't tell me was that the garage was closed on Sunday ( my check out day and I would have to pay a $50 charge to have them release my car.

I would have given it a 10 if the walls weren't so thin! We heard everything! People's conversations. People taking a shower. People using the bathroom. The worst thing we had to deal with was someone singing @ 5 AM in the morning!!!!! You should post something to your occupants saying no singing before 8 AM and after 9 PM. Otherwise we LOVED your hotel & would come back again (without the singer @ 5 AM!) thanks! :-)

We thought this place was excellent! When we arrived, we were informed we had a gotten a free upgrade. The room was a suite, which included our own private bath, two full size beds and a kitchenette. The location is excellent for bus routes. The parking garage next door charges $20 for a full 24 hrs.

The hotel is resonably priced for the location. It is noisy though - we had private room with private bathroom, which was next to shared bathrooms. The noise was big, when other guests were using shared facilities - walls were trembling. There is the smell of olderness and some things in the room did not work - TV reception very bad, toilet flush broken- partially fixed when pointed to the staff. The staff not very pleasant, offcie opened just at 9.00 a.m.

The owner was very nice and helpful

Visited San Francisco with a friend for the San Francisco Marathon. Decently located. Very inexpensive for the City. Was nervous about the shared bathroom. Was not an issue (never had to wait for another guest), but I did not care for the fact that when I went into the bathroom, there was often water on the floor and soaked through the bath mat. That created a problem when I went in there in my socks. :( I really appreciated that they accommodated a slightly earlier check-in and gave us an hour extra to check out. That helped a LOT. :)

The property is small but cozy and welcoming. Located in a good neighborhood this is not in the infamous tenderloin neighborhood just near it. The rooms are more like a guesthouse style and most share bathrooms and showers which are kept extremely clean. The hotel does not have a lift and has steep stairs so note this. Lots of good food and drink within walking distance. I am a repeat customer. It's one of the least expensive choices that's clean and comfortable.

This hotel is great. I love the friendly atmosphere and the musical memorabilia everywhere. Lots of musicians and practicing here if you're into that kind of thing. I'll definitely be stayin' here more often :)

If you are used to be on this kind of hostal and you dont mind sharing bathroom and stuff it is OK. If you are not sure there are a lot of options on lombard street and they are way better and still cheap. The bars and restaurants around encore are really good, but after 2 days we went to another hotel on lombard mainly because they dont have parking lot and we really need it.

I stayed at the Encore express over two weeks, it's a good location for many of the sights and sounds of San Francisco. Polk street provides a good location for food and muni transport to fishermans wharf, while the city centre and civic centre and chinatown are just a small walk away. The hotel is a good price for what you get considering the area, the rooms and shared bathrooms are clean and people friendly. I would stay here again, the price is unbeatable for the money in my opinion.

Encore Express is a great deal if you know what you're getting into. It's very loud due to the nightly band practice in the basement (bring ear plugs!), the rooms are small, and the bathrooms are separate. If you're okay with that, it's a great deal for what you get. The neighborhood is interesting (although arguably sketchy) and close to downtown.

Very helpful and friendly staff. Noise from the band that rents the studio below the hotel goes on all day long till about 11pm. So forget taking a nap or getting to sleep before 11pm. When I complained the staff did Offer me an upgrade for my last three remaining nights where I wouldn't hear the band practicing. It was quite acceptable and I enjoyed my last three days much better.

Interesting place for sure. Just an old hotel in need of new carpet, some paint and new bedspreads. I didn't realize I could have gotten a room with a bath and not have to share when I reserved through Venere. Staff was very good and friendly. The room was kept clean. For the cost it is what I expected was just hoping for better.

Had a fantastic time at the Encore Express. The private room was surprisingly spacious, bed comfy and TV a nice touch. Office staff were helpful when needed but otherwise stayed out of your way. Only real issue was only having two toilets on our floor (and one included the shower) meaning you faced gridlock if you tried to be hygienic in peak periods.

An excellent budget option that is close to everything! Some of the other reviews of this hotel had me half-petrified to check in, but the price was right and the location was good. I was delighted to check in and find a clean and lovely room with a fancy bed, mini-fridge, and a sturdy desk. We also had a huge airy window that looked out over some kind of courtyard. The neighborhood around the hotel was very nice with several good cafes and restaurants and bars which seemed very popular at night. You do have walk through several rough blocks to get the hotel if you're coming from Market St, but if you want to travel to a place where you won't see any bums or junkies, pick someplace other than San Francisco.

No where on the website did it mention that the ground level of the building is rented out as a rehearsal studio for musicians which means that there is loud music from 11am-11pm. Moreover, the studio was directly below our room which made our stay very bothersome. ALso the staff is not helpful or friendly and the place smelled like ammonia and garbage was left in the hallways. THe walls are very thin and you can hear everything through them.

The service desk rarely answered the phone when I called regarding my stay. When they did answer, they were very abrupt, unhelpful, and incompetent. I was very unhappy with this rude customer service, the fact that there is no parking on site, and the overall negative experience that Encore Express had to offer. They also charge a ridiculously high security deposit on their rooms. I will not be staying here ever again, nor would I recommend it to any travelers.

This is my second recent trip to SF. Encore Express was good value for money. My only two quibbles would be a lack of wash cloths and poor reading light. Otherwise the staff was pleasant and helpful and the room was very pleasant. The whole place is interestingly decorated, giving it a unique as opposed to hotel-generic feel. Great location.

Tax was not included in the quote, which it was for other SF hotels, and made a substantial difference in price. It was dishonest! Thinnest walls ever. Heard neighbors talking softly, party on the other side of the hotel, neighbor's TV, taps, everything. Also was really hard to get back in when my card stopped working as nobody answers the buzzers. Still thought there was a good value for the area, but just too much on the negative side.

There is a music studio below the rooms. Percussions were welcoming me on my arrival. The music stops after 11 pm, but after a long trip, I wish I had a quieter room. The music played could vary over the week, but mostly hard rock. I was not warned about the surroundings, so I had the shocking experience of walking through districts a few blocks away where I was first insulted, then saw a man with a knife trying to open a car in the middle of the traffic, depraved people smoking mariruana, and queuing for charity or something...also 2 prostitutes in the early morning while going to catch bus N.3...

The location was good, nearby is a cable car stop. You could even walk to the union square in about 15 min. Theres also a 24 hour market 2 blocks away. The room was really small, but clean. Shared restroom was ok, better than I expected. You could hear noises from other rooms and the hallway which was kind of annoying, but all in all, it was a good choice with limited budget.

So, this is a great hotel. The staff is awesome and the rooms are comfy. My only issue was the internet connection. It could be because I was on the third floor, but the connection was in and out the entire stay. If you have a job requiring you to access the internet, I suggest requesting a room close to the office or bringing an aircard. I requested an aircard from my studio while I was in town. Great stay though!

Apart from the hotel being up a steep flight of stairs once you get inside the door - and no lift - the room was pretty good, and the cleanliness of the bathroom was good. The carpet could have done with a bit of a clean but the bedclothes were fine. Some noise in the evening as it is next door to a restaurant playing music. Also, some guests were a bit noisy at night. The staff in the reception area were helpful. For San Francisco the price was good - and location not bad - access to streetcars was quite close.

We loved the Windsor Inn, it is very cosy and more like a home than like a hotel. There is a cat Mini ! It is if you can walk 1 mile whitout problems very close to everything !!! So for us it was just the right place, the right price and location and if we should go to Washington D.C again we would stay here again. The staff does a great job helping you with anything. Breakfast was okay for us, but if you expect bacon and eggs, pancakes and so un, this is not the place for you, but if you need a nice place with athosphare and a klean bed and a shower, this is the place for you...

The Hotel is located in Nob Hill Area well served and comfortable, but the Hotel management has many defects: 1)It is NO MORE part of Nob Hill Hotel and Reception is at 1st floor (without lift) and open ONLY between 3 p.m. and 6.00 p.m. Outside these hours there is no way to contact anyone; 2) The rooms has a bad smell due to very old moquette; 3) From the window is visible to other rooms; 4) The bathrooms are shared and only No.2 per floor (for more than 15 rooms...). Finally, a good price/quality rate (for the location), but for only one night.

Encore Express is in a great location, if you're looking for close MUNI/cable car routes. The rooms are definitely small, but for the price you're paying, they're worth their value. Get a community bathroom if you don't mind sharing...some of the private bathrooms are not in the rooms themselves. The walls are kind of thin, but we didn't encounter any kind of noise trouble while there. The staff is super friendly. They let us check in 3 hours early! Plus, they'll hold your luggage in their office if your room is unavailable. All in all, it's a cute, quaint hotel with great rates!

The hotel is excellent for the given proposal. Small but very comfortable room. The shared bathrooms are very clean, with easy access. The staff is corteous, common areas are very clean, and the environment is felt safe. The location is the best: centrally stated among bars, small but very good restaurants with worldwide dishes, and there are garages opened nightly just around the block.
