The Residencial Castromira is a 2 star hostel in Lisbon, Portugal that is ideal for backpackers and those who travel to Lisbon for leisure. A convenient accommodation in downtown Lisbon, this hostel is very well connected by tram, bus or subway to virtually every area of the city and is perfect for those who just want to discover Portugal’s capital and find a comfortable, cozy room at night. The hostel has a public computer from which you can connect to the internet and make phone calls.

The famous Eléctrico 28, Lisbon’s iconic tram line, will take you to the city’s most enchanting spots, such as the Bairro Alto, the Castelo de São Jorge castle and the Sé Catedral de Lisboa cathedral and stops just steps from the Residencial Castromira. On these old-style tram cars you will find many locals that regularly commute for work or leisure and you will have the opportunity to get acquainted with Portuguese culture and lifestyle. The Castelo de São Jorge is considered Lisbon’s symbol and was built on a hill that overlooks the whole city. From there you will also be able to enjoy a view of the impressive Ponte 25 de Abril that connects Lisbon with the south of Portugal by crossing the Tejo (Tagus River).

Enchanting Portugal!

The hostel Residencial Castromira is located in the very central area of Anjos, a buzzing neighborhood that is lined with clothing shops, grocery stores and bars. From there it is just a short walk or metro ride to the central Rossio square or de Avenida da Liberdade that lead to the heart of the city, the Praça do Comércio square. If you are willing to experience the lively nightlife of Lisbon, you can easily reach the Bairro Alto area, where you will find plenty of restaurants, clubs and discos and you can attend shows of fado, the traditional Portuguese music.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity of trying some traditionally Portuguese dishes, such as the bacalhau, a type of codfish prepared in hundreds of different recipes, or a cozido à portuguesa, a typical stew that features chicken meat or sausages. Sports enthusiasts will have the opportunity of attending football games in one of the several top notch stadiums located in the city. The most notable are the Estádio da Luz, home of giants SL Benfica, and the Estádio José Alvalade XXI, where their arch-rivals Sporting Clube de Portugal play.

The best one is near the metro, and big room. That's enough.

The most striking thing was perfect cleanliness of rooms, bathrooms, toilets; I felt really comfortable about it. Staff was very friendly, especially one sinhora who spoke English, was very nice and helpful- best greetings for her! My room was small, but cosy. Inconveniences: quite noisy street, and most of the staff knowing hardly few words in English, but generally, I recomend it! and yet, good lacation.

Good value! 4 people in a 4 bed room. WC clean (towels, sheets, etc). Next to metro station. Surroundings little bit dodgy but no problem. I would recommend if you want to save money and just go to bed.

This is a very basic hotel , which is exactly what we expected. the staff were lovely but only one spoke English but this didn't really cause a problem. we were a bit intimidated by the surrounding area initially but in the daylight soon realised how convenient the location is (20 minute walk to the centre or quick hop on the metro, which is just outside the hotel). glass door on bathroom a bit uncomfortable but other than that I cannot fault this place. very enjoyable stay (oh and be warned you have to pay the full balance of your stay on arrival).

It's a nice and clean place with kind, friendly staff. The location is very central (10-15min walking from the city center). There is also a metro station (green line, station Intendente) and the tram 28 stops in front of the pension. We slept well, it was very quiet. No breakfast included, but there were plenty good and cheap cafes (pastelerias) on the main road. It is the ideal place for people looking for a low budget accomodation in the central area, but still expecting a clean place and good manners.

Personal is very kind and welcoming, speaking a good english. Hotel surroundings are a little sketchy and not very close to the major city attractions, btw the metro station is just two meters far from the hotel. Tere is also the famous "28" electric bus stop very close to the hotel.

The hotel is located next to downtown (15 min on foot). The metro is really close. The room and bathrooms are clean and the people are really nice. But, the room was really really small. I have stayed in really cheap hotels in Europe but I think this room was the smallest I have ever seen. No heating. It was pretty cold in Lisbon in December. The shower was inside the room which was nice, but at the same time, it turned the room really humid. It was raining a lot in Lisbon so all the weat clothes stayed weat from one one day to another. The personnel didnt have hair dryers or irons easily reachable. They had to go pick it up at another hotel own by the same owner across the street.

I was supposed to have private toilet and shared bathroon, both ones were shared in reality. But there was no problem in the end, only a few rooms shared one facility. The facility was very clean. The staff does not speak English (one exception).

Castromira was a great place to stay. The room was small but luckily they gave us a room with a large bathroom. Andre at the front desk most nights was really friendly and helpful. Hotel is on the border of a slightly rough neighborhood which would be concerning if it wasn't so close to the metro stop - less than 50 metres away. Hotel is on a busy street so expect some noise. One improvement that would make this a better hotel would be to provide internet access. The computers are there but the price is one euro for 15 minutes. Crazy! Go across the street for cheaper.

The rooms are very clean and you're very welcome. The price of the room are more than fair and the hotel is located less than 10 minutes walk from the city center. There is also a metro station right on the street. The only bad point : you can hear every noise coming from the lobby

There is not any comment about the street where this hotel is located. We were advised by the taxi driver that it is one of the most dangerous of Lisbon. It was not recommended to walk during the night over there. Also the instruction to arrive to the hotel by bus was incorrect and confused. The best way and the surest is to get a taxi.

Nice hotel, literally at the metro station very near the centre and about 10 minute drive from the airport. Very easy to find it. The bed in the room is confortable, although the size of the room is very (!) small. The other negative thing about Castromira is that if water is flowing from the shower or tap it is very loud, you can hear water flowing at your neighbours.

Pros: Rooms very clean and modern looking. Cons: The staff were not very friendly and spoke very bad English. They were not even able to advise me on how to get to the airport, where to get public bus tickets etc. (I did not try asking more complicated questions).

We were three 28-year old girls, staying for 4 days. Our room was really big, with one double bed and one single bed, TV, one private bathroom with toilets, shower and washbasin. The hotel should have been renovated recently, as rooms are very clean and well kept. Except the door bell really noisy, room was very calm (window on the courtyard). Location of the hotel is fine because not far from the center (10 to 15mn walk from Baixa), but in a very popular and quite poor area. We mostly took a taxi (cheap) to come back at night. Intendente metro station is also 1mn walk from the hotel door. This hotel is the best value for money I have seen in many countries.

The room was great. It smelled a little like smoke which is something I don't usually like but it had its own bathroom and the bed was quite comfortable.

I think Pension Residencial Castromira would fit best for young people that want to have a cheap but clean and friendly accomodation. It is well located so you can take the underground which is 10 meters away from the front door (station: Impedente). Also it is possible to walk to the Rossio in about 10-15 minutes. If you have the choice then select room nr. 108. It is the only room with a included bathroom with shower and toilette for the same price. All other rooms have only shared bathrooms. The room was renovated and looked quite new. Castromira was perfect for a cheap trip to Lisboa.
