It was better than expected in terms of location and the fact that I was alone and had taken a 6 bed room. The staff was friendly and the room was clean. The only grouse I had was the late breakfast at 8.00 am. Does not allow you to catch the morning buses going to the Scottish Highland tours. Would highly recommend. Bipin

room was a bit noisy for a while. this was from outside though, not inside, as all occupants of the 10 bed dorm respected that the room was for sleeping. as the fringe was on then i suppose the outside noise was to be expected. this didnt bother me much though. as i was travelling light i used one of the lockers to store my jacket with my valuables in the pockets. however the key to the locker (paper receipt) i had to take back to my room which kind of defeats the purpose as this could easily be stolen i suppose. was kind of uncomfortable with that. where do you hide it in a room with 9 other strangers. however, everything went well and i was delighted with my stay there. many thanks.

A good budget choice. I went with two friends during the Fringe, so expect I was shafted on the price. But still, it's hard to complain. PRO's: Really excellent central location. Decent breakfasts (can't comment on price, as they were included with our room). Free bag storage (at owner's risk) before check-in / after check-out. CON's: Communal areas are seriously basic and a little unloved. I felt particularly sorry for occupants along the 2nd floor corridor which creaked and moaned comically loudly every time someone walked over it. Must have been fabulous at 3am. The lifts are slow and a little on the small side. The bar, while spacious and well-kept, is surprisingly expensive for such a budget hostel, and the customer kitchen, located in a corner on the ground floor, was totally unadvertised when we checked in. There wasn't, as far as we could tell, any free wifi in the bar, despite what other reviews (and the hostel's own website) have suggested. Perhaps it's gone? Internet access is available for a fee (something ridiculous like £5/day). Annoying, but understandable. Thankfully 3G signal was good in the room (2nd floor, overlooking the courtyard), but patchy in the bar. Also, I was a bit surprised to be asked, on check-in, for my passport number and expiry date. I'm not sure whether this is becoming standard practice in UK hotels now, or if it's just SCH, but it's worth bearing in mind.

Was a fairly good hostel on times... missed my flight so got there 2 days later but didnt inform as wasnt sure if i was gonna go out or not . anyway however they give my reservation away and almost lost out on 5 days plus a no show fee.. Expect to do most the stuff yourself i.e bed linen etc felt as if treated like a kid. on 2 occasions the key card to the room failed not good being on the forth floor and having to go back down and back up again ( even tho they have a lift) apart from slight things like that was an ok ish hostel if u want a cheap place to stay close to the royal mile ( edinburgh castle) then this is the hostel to be with ... my occasion for my stay was to explore as i like to get out and see what is out there :) thanks for reading

Friendly staff. Great location and price. Nice enough bar in the building (altough the free WiFi in the bar did not work on my mobile). Free luggage room before and after checking in/out was nice.

A lot of noise in the lobby from 10pm until 6am. We did not sleep, from the room we heard people chating, walking, running, screaming, it was unbearable. I am so disapointed because my first stay was such a good experience. Also the room was too small for 3 persons, but the beds were greats. The bathroom smelt like old mushroom. In this hostel, the quality depends on your room. There are correct and bad rooms, but really bad rooms.
