My partner and I decided to treat ourselves to a mini break and we quickly decided upon the Orange tulip hotel. The location is excellent however that is really all the positives I can think of. To start with the welcoming was very poor. We were warned of smoking in our rooms would get us evicted and fined as well as the 'rules' ( we had to be out by 11am) With pleasantries over we climbed up to our room and were surprised to find it looked more like a run down hostel than a £90 a night hotel. To begin with we found other peoples hairs on the pillows, the walls were dirty (I do not want to think of what was on them) The window did not shut properly, which was great when tram works started at 6am every morning. On our last morning, feeling ever so tender, we awoke to the sounds of someone banging and doing works within the hotel at 7.30am. I have never written a review before but felt compelled to as I was am really disappointed by this hotel.

Staff was very helpfull. At first the room was not available due to a problem with the water. The room they offered instead, contained 6 single beds. That's not very romantic. After complaining and telling there were still rooms available (Venere website) we got a room with double bed. A very small room, with no place to put your clothes. A small bed. A room that needs painting. A simple room for a price too expensive. But suitable for people who only want a bed for one or a few nights.

The only good thing about this hotel is its location. It is about 5 minutes walk from central station & it is in the middle of the town. Apart from that there is nothing worth paying for. The rooms are very small & you can barely move in the room. No dressing table and very less storage space in the room. Beds are too small & not comfy at all. I will say it is slightly improved version of Hostel. Not worth paying for no facilities. I requested to repair non working exhaust fan in toilet, but no response in 3 days time. I won't recommend.

It was inconvenient that the reception was on the 1st floor without lift, the room was in the next building, and that internet did not work in the room. The location was convenient close to the station and RED LIGHT, but it means that surrounding was very noisy until 2 o'clock in the night. Noise insulation did not function. No air-con. The entrance door should be opened by receptionist via intercom every time. Receptionist was OK. Maybe a nice choice for backpackers for the rate.

The hotel entrance is very poor and the stairs to the other floors needed acrobatic skills. The (single room) was extremely small, not dirty but also not clean. In the night there was rather some noise coming from the street (Damrak side)

Ideal location in Amsterdam but the room itself is quite bad (it stunk awfully in the bathroom, we could admire tags on the beds and we got the visit of a mouse during the night!)

The only redeeming factor is its central position. The so called hotel is far too expensive for what you get. No elevator, just steps and steps. It was bearable because we stayed 2 nights.

the only thing that goes for this hotel is its location, walking distance from the central station and located on one of the busiest and most happening streets of amsterdam. the receptionist was ok and helpful the rooms are really small but if you are not spending much time in ther thats not a problem at all the staircase is really really steep so be careful as you climb up and down no breakfast is included soap and towel is provided overall its good value enjoy your stay peeps

Positive: It is located at a very convenient area ( nearby central station, redlight district within 5 min walking distance, grasshopper at the opposite). Staff was very helpfull, I got a discount voucher of 10% for the restaurant downstairs. Room was clean and comfortable. Negative: It was generally good, only the TV was not working in my room. No elevator and no breakfast included.

What can I say...Location is great! Is just few meter from Central Station. But the room is terrible and the bathroom smells very bad. When I arrived, they have just painted the room, and the smell was terrible. The room is very small, as the bathroom. But if you are gonna stay one or two nights is fine, but go to the hotel just for sleep, stay out in the street as much as you can.

I thought the location was the big selling point of the hotel, and that's why I stayed there. Price-wise it was good, room decor was OK - increased to excellent I thought for the bathroom - and facilities in the hotel were also very good, including breakfast.

the hotel had problem. the towles had a holes as big as my head in it. but they changed it after we asked for it.the wifi did not let us surf the web afte a few minitues. so we have to go to internet point in the hotel and pay for it.the rooms were so small, but i think this is so normal in amsterdam. the steps were awfully narrow. and hard to step up.

This location was AWSOME! What's your priority? This "hotel" is one step up from a hostile for sure. There's no phone or tv in the room. Water stains served as artwork on the walls. But it was clean w. beds and in the best location! I felt safe too. We walked everywhere! Anne frank house, central train station, red light district, dam square. You can take the tram too, but we enjoyed the daylight walking. There was a tour guide shop just downstairs and we took an amazing all day tour of the city and two small towns outside of the city! It really was amazing. I loved Amsterdam. If you're looking for a real hotel, though, choke up some money and stay somewhere else. I'm not kidding when I say this was a step up from a hostile.

I have originally booked for 10 days with the Hotel. The minute I arrived I felt it was all a big lie: There are 2 hotels: Dam Hotel and the Orange Hotel connected on the first floor, you must go throught the Orange Hotel over VERY steep stairs to the "so called reception" which will tell give you the room key on the other building which is the Dam Hotel. It means you must climb another set of stairs to the second floor then through a "Bridge" between the 2 buildings to an elevator that takes you to the 4th floor where my room is. That is aweful. The room is smaller than Tiny, you cannot stand without putting your luggage on the bed. The view was a big window on the roof draining pipes coming from the roof, there was 1 30 x 40 cm window near the ceiling but you have to stand on the bed to see the sky not the buildings below (That is not "All rooms with a View"). Desk ! Unless you consider my suitcase is my desk, there was not even a space for me to stand ! There was a TV, yes, with no single channel working and they Cable TV! The Lift stopped working a couple of days later (on the day I left and had to carry everything myself 4 floors down). The Free Wifi, yes, if you sit next to the receptionist ! Guess their access point has a 5 meters range. The restaurant & stock exchange both are shops in front of the hotel so don't believe the pictures. My reservation was "Highest floor, with an Iron & Hair Dryer in the room" based that all rooms Have a view. I got the highest floor over looking pipes ! In all cases, the moment I arrived I asked for cancellation but they have refused as I have booked for 10 days (Arrived Monday) and after some negotiations they agreed that I can leave on Friday morning. I agreed and booked at Accor Hotel for nearly the same average cost for the next same period in a much larger room. Worst Hotel I ever stayed in.

The bath was very dirty and small. We had to pay more than it was said in the booking. We didn´t have a triple room as we had reserved but a room for 6 people. Hotel staff and guests went into the room twice when we were out and it wasn´t for cleaning. The views from the window were to a dirty little patio (courtyard).

I booked a double room for 2 nights in Damhotel because of its good location, but when I arrived a few minutes after 12pm (12:15 probably), they told me the check-in desk has alredy been closed at 12 and pushed me to transfer to another hotel (belongs to the same owner, besides the furthest canal). They told me they will give me a big room, but the new "hotel" turned out to be a hostel and the room was a 5-bed hostel room.......yes, it was big...... Even after I found out the fact, they still refused to give me a room in Damhotel even for the next night (they threatened me the only room I will get in Damhotel is a bunk bed room and is not guaranteed). There was not lift in both Damhotel and the hostel, they knew I had 40 kgs luggage but still gave me a room on the top floor (5th floor) and told me it was the only room left, but the next day I found out actually it was not the truth. I moved all my luggages along the steep stairs, nobody helped me, the front desk guy just watched me chillily. Besides, the price for Damhotel was 85 Euro per night, and even the walk-in price for the hostel them sent me to was 65 Euro per night.......... The owner has several hotel&hostels, only the Damhotel locates near the central Amsterdam, and they always want to fill up all their properties....... So be vvvvvvvvvery careful when you book this hotel. I will never trust this hotel any more and will warn all my friends who will go to Amsterdam.
