Hostel Farah - Amman

Ideal for backpackers and budget travelers seeking accommodation without bellboys and fancy decor. Skip the street side restaurants and head for a meal to a market. It will take some searching around the downtown mosque, but the food at "Anwar Al Quds Restaurant" located directly within the market main buzz area is offering very good meals at prices even low budget traveler can afford (4-6JD for a meal for two people with soft drink included). Head for the upstairs gallery and you would be able to claim that you have eaten in the restaurant with perhaps the lowest ceilings in the world. Be amused, go with the flow and enjoy :)

Some earlier feedbacks complained about cleanliness in general, I cannot confirm this - my room was in good condition and I had private facilities. However I do agree that the shared bathrooms appear to be a bit worn out (but what exactly would you expect for this great rate?). Staff was very friendly and went the extra mile for me. Just a bit sad that no WLAN is offered, this would make this hotel even more recommendable.

A very friendly backpacker hostel, with good quality (but obviously basic!) rooms at cheap prices. The hostel is in a very central location, near The Citadel, meaning you do not have far to walk to see the main sites. The staff speak excellent English and are very helpful. I stayed in a basic but comfortable single en-suite room with a fridge and a heater. It also had a tv with several English television channels, meaning I could watch a film to unwind at the end of a long day. The best thing about the place is the organised trips that people can sign up for (minimum of four people, but that happened on the three trips I took). They are cheap, convenient, and take you to places that would be hard/a hassle to get to by public transport, such as the Eastern Desert and the Baptism site. If you want a basic, but clean and convenient, hostel then stay in the Farah.
