Ours was a good stay, but the location with a plaza right outside our window did not allow for good sleeping at night. We had to come in during the late afternoon and take a nap so that we could make it through the rest of the day. The staff was wonderful. The location made all of the things we wanted to do and see convenient. It was just that the plaza was occupied late into the night and early morning and made it difficult to sleep.

I stayed here during December 2008. The hotel is in a good location (Chueca, Gran Via, Puerto del Sol area). Many bars and restaurants in the neighborhood. Rooms were large (by European standards). Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Rooms are simple and have little character, other than the small patio deck where you can sit and have some fresh air. There is alot of street noise at night, as the hotel sits on the edge of the lively Chueca area. If you plan to go to bed early, ask for a room that is on the Calle Clavel side rather than the Calle Infantas side, that will help a bit.

We are french people. It was our first stay in Madrid, A family with daughter. It was a little bit difficult to express ourself in spanish because french language is very few spoken. The Hotel was easy to access when you take the bus Hotel with aerocity. The metro is very convenient but you can visit the main touristic spots on foot within 40 minutes. The town is very busy and exciting, the people are talkative and joyfull. There are plenty restaurants and cafe the pedestrians can see beautiful mansions buildings and museums. We recommend this trip.

Lovely hotel in a good location. Breakfast a bit uninteresting but a lovely communal area with free access to internet. Good value, though there are so many options in Madrid that there are some even better!

The only complaint for this hostel is that there was a construction site going across the street when i was there, it was very noisy. Plus there is a very cute bar underneath, but that also kept the noise level up all night. Otherwise i loved it.

We where in Madrid for the Marathon and picked the San Lorenzo because of its close location to the start and finish off the marathon. The hotel and the room was clean and comfortable, though it would have been nicer if the room had been a little bigger. The Lorenzo is a great location with friendly local tapas bars just around the corner and a number of very good restaurants.Only thing that did,nt come up to scratch was breakfast not worth the money!

Tutto OK.

My comment is : nice hotel, excellent position because in the centre of Madrid. Nice room, very clean. As three stars hotel, I expected a minibar or at least something like a boiler for making a tea. The coffee of the bar is not quite good. Some of their employees are not competent at all. But as final: good stay. Thanks

Having read previous reviews i was a little concerned about the noise, but our room looked out over a side street and was quiet! The room was clean and comfortable. Perfect for a city break with my daughter. The staff were friendly and helpful, even booking our return taxi to the airport. But beware the 'distraction' thieves near the underground, a map held 'in your face' asking for directions, while your purse is snatched! Then.....several minutes later they return with the empty purse to ask for a reward at catching 'the big black man' that stole it! Otherwise fine!

The room is small and furnishings are simple, but for the price, you cannot complain. The room is clean which is the minimum I look for. It is also centrally located--few mins. from Gran Via Metro and walking distance to Plaza del Sol. Gran Via is also a nice & safe location in a shopping and theater area. My only complain is a little noise coming from the bars nearby which seem to seep into the room walls late at night. Overall, I would still recommend the place if you are looking for affordable accomodation in Madrid.

San Lorenzo is ideally located for daytime sightseeing and nights out, it is about five minutes walk from the metro and trains are frequent and cheap. The room was clean and well equipped, although we thought we would have the use of a kitchen and we didn't, and the staff are helpful. The surrounding area is noisy and busy, some reviewers have complained of noise at night, but what do you expect when you've chosen to stay in the centre of a vibrant, busy city?! It's not the countryside! A good place to stay while in Madrid, would stay there again.

The single room was very small, even by European standards. The furnishings and fixtures were shabby and damaged and were sized and situated in such a way as to minimize the living space. The automated wake-up call process did not work, but the free high-speed internet access (on a community PC) was an unexpected bonus.

My main complaint is that the room was so very noisy due to street noise. We had requested a quiet room. Perhaps there are no quiet rooms at this location, in which case the management should have advised us of this and we would have found a different hotel. Also, the breakfast (additional charge) was not very good compared with other hotels. Other than that, the room was very clean and comfortable. But if you cannot sleep, what good is a comfortable bed? It seems that central Madrid is very noisy at night and that people who want to sleep need to choose their hotel very carefully.

OTTIMA LA POSIZIONE, A 100 METRI DALLA GRAN VIA. L'ALBERGO E' ABBASTANZA PULITO. LE CAMERE SONO MOLTO PICCOLE TRANNE QUELLE EXCELSIOR CHE SONO MOLTO ELEGANTI E SPAZIOSE (QUELLE CHE CI SONO NELLE FOTO PER CAPIRSI). Absolutely disgusted with the staff at San Lorenzo. On checking out of the hotel, they claimed I ordered room service which I did not and clearly stated that I would not be paying for something that I never ordered. I then signed the invoice for the accommodation only, but after checking my credit card statement a sum of 20 euros had been deducted a few days later WITHOUT my authorisation. I will be taking this matter further.

The hotel was very clean and the decor was tasteful and looked newly renovated. We did not have breakfast so cannot comment on the food but would thoroughly recommend this hotel to any traveller looking for good quality budget accomodation. The only snag was the shower/bath - the bath is quite high and difficult to climb into and I slipped and bruised my leg the first time I used it.

Don't stay at this hotel if you want to sleep at any stage since the banging from another floor, totally unchallenged by hotel staff, will keep you soundly awake! Also, if you have personal belongings, don't expect hotel staff to contribute to their safety since they were quite happy to hand our key to a complete stranger and then argue with us when challenged. Stay somewhere else. Whilst it's true that this hotel is cheap it only proves that cheap is as cheap does.

Our room was not ready upon our arrival so we had to return in 2 hours. The room we were given was on the main street in front of a construction site and was a bit noisy even with the balcony windows closed. We asked for another room away from the main street and got a nice quiet room facing a courtyard. The rooms were spotless and they kept the heater running throughout the night and early morning (this was a luxury that we were deprived of in other hotels in Italy and Barcelona.) The hotel is a short (5 minute) walk to the metro station, Plaza del Sol is about 10 minutes away. There is also an Easy Internet Cafe nearby and lots of restaurants, shopping and theatres outside your doorstep. Great location, great facility and helpful staff.

For my next reservation in Madrid I probably will try a new experience, e.g. (Tech Hotel's). Sure, they are €20 more expensive for a single room. Otherwise, so I've seen, they are also very centrical and offers more services, like DSL PC connection... However, I would recomend San Lorenzo for those who don't want to expend to much. Unfortunately our stay here did not get off to a great start. Firstly when we arrived we discovered we had been given twin beds despite booking a double room. We were told there are no double rooms left and at time of booking, we should have requested a double bed! Ah we did request a balcony as this sounded like a nice room feature. However the room we were allocated did not have what could possibly be described as a balcony, there certainly wasn't room for 2 people to stand never mind sit. It was dirty, looked straight into an office block and there were no beautiful flowers. Saturday night being our first night was unbelievably noisy to the point where sleep was impossible. We complained at around 2.30 am, however the night receptionist spoke no English so we waited until the morning. We were met with hostility by the day receptionist and told it will be quieter tonight and once again no there are no other rooms available. We enquired about the possibility of obtaining double sheets to make our stay more comfortable. You would think I had asked for a free stay! After much discussion and practically begging on my behalf I was given 2 damp sheets and 2 wet pillowcases. The room was very clean the towels resembled the old grotty ones you leave until last to use at home! All in all pretty poor.

Centrall located within steps of the Gran Via and within walking distance of most sights. Although the rooms are small - all was very clean and functional. The Hostal is located in an area with many tapa bars and restaurants. The area is vibrant with people to the late or early morning hours so sleeping may be difficult if you like sleeping with an open window - suggest you ask for a room facing the inner courtyard rather than the street. Breakfast was also available at the hotel but there are numerous cafes nearby. There is also a corner store just a block away where you can purchase munchy food as well as bottled water at very reasonable prices rather than purchasing these items at the major sights. Given the overall high prices of accomodations in Madrid, I highly recommend this hostal for the great relationship between price and quality as well as location.

For the price the accomodation was adequate. The rooms we had was smaller than we had expected from the photos but in general they were clean. The breakfasts were very good and value for money. The area we picked (Gran Via) was perfect, the only drawback being the noise levels - even on the third floor. The staff were not overly friendly. We made the effort to ask them questions where upon they gave us good local info - they should smile a bit more and try to be more welcoming. We wouldn't stay there agian though, I would rather pay more for a better hotel.

The room was very clean and the staff was extremely friendly. However, the web site claimed each room had a balcony and I specifically requested a double bed. Our room had no balcony and we received two twin beds. These details did not ruin our stay. The location just off gran via is in perfect walking distance to much of madrid and close to two different metro stations for those further off. Would definitely recommend the hotel, but might suggest calling to confirm any specific requests.

I booked this hotel as part of my husbands birthday present and I was very disappointed with my room. On your website you say every room has a balcony with flowers. We were put in a room in the furthest corner on the top floor of the hotel with no balcony and the windows just looked out onto another building. Also, there was no airconditioning in our room (although you said there would be)and we couldn't keep our windows open at night because of the noise from the building we were next to. Also, our room was right next to the maids store/washing room and early every morning we could hear the banging of the keys and doors. The actual Hotel itself is very nice, as are the staff and it is in a great location but our room was very noisy and hot.

The building work taking place across the road meant that opening the french windows was not possible (only a temporary situation). Although the neighbouring rooms could be heard clearly, and the staff were rather aloof, the hotel rooms, communal areas and location were excellent, especially for the price! A bad point is that the hotel hasn't got a proper restaurant for lunch and dinner but in the other hand is right in the centre of the city and very well communicated with the bus and underground stations only a few minutes from it.

small rooms as to be expected otherwise excellent location. Very, very friendly and helpful staff. Thought the map on how to find it could be better and full address was not on original booking form. Would definately use this again.
