We are a family of 4 persons, the room offered to us could be suitable for up to 3 people. Very small but clean and noisy. Hotel convenient to visit the city center.

Good price and location, but terrible noise, both from the outside (despite double windows) and from the inside. You can hear your neighbor snorring through the paper thin walls, literrally. We had a hint of that from other reviews, but we never thought it would be so terrible. That's really the mayor negative point. The rest is quite ok. The wireless could only be accessed from the lobby despite the claims and insistance on the clerck that it would be fixed soon (never was)

Common areas and rooms are clean and nicely decorated, staff are welcoming but my room was quite cramped and got a lot of noise from the street, even with shutters and windows closed. The location is good, near to Gran Via metro but it is on the edge of a bar and party area so you can get quite lot of noise at night. Disappointing that they didn’t have an iron that I could use.

Trip with a friend, the hotel is 5 min from Plaza del Sol, 3 min from metro and we were in the centre of the city. I liked the included breakfast and the simple and clean room. I would reccomend this hostal to young people who want a nice place to stay without paying a lot.

'+' good location near the city centre, quite cheap, the room and the bath were clean '-' really small room, very dark and quite noisy, very cold ( it was november), shabby furniture i felt depressed at once. i would recommend it to the people who come to the hotel only to sleep and leave their belongings.

A good value hotel in a convenient location. The room was small but adequate. The extractor fan in the bathroom did not work, which meant the room was steamy after a shower and smelly after - well, I don't need to specify. I was told it was too late to get someone to repair it, but would have liked to have been offered a different room.

The place was great: very clean, nice comfy bed and pillow, and the staff was very helpful. I really enjoyed my stay there, right in city centre and easy to reach all the attractions and major stores. The only negative thing about it is that you get all the noise from people who are about at night. However, if you are very tired from all the sightseeing, the noise is not much of a problem! I choose to have breakfast at a near by pastry shop and it proved to be a good choice.

The San Lorenzo is a close walk from the Gran Via metro station; it is very convenient from that standpoint. The hotel staff was very helpful, friendly and nice. Before our trip, we read how this area is very noisy, especially on weekends, and it was true. On weekends, the locals partied all night. However, we were able to sleep comfortably. We had older kids (18 and 17 years) with us, and we would not recommend this area for families with younger children. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend the San Lorenzo.

Ours was a good stay, but the location with a plaza right outside our window did not allow for good sleeping at night. We had to come in during the late afternoon and take a nap so that we could make it through the rest of the day. The staff was wonderful. The location made all of the things we wanted to do and see convenient. It was just that the plaza was occupied late into the night and early morning and made it difficult to sleep.

I stayed here during December 2008. The hotel is in a good location (Chueca, Gran Via, Puerto del Sol area). Many bars and restaurants in the neighborhood. Rooms were large (by European standards). Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Rooms are simple and have little character, other than the small patio deck where you can sit and have some fresh air. There is alot of street noise at night, as the hotel sits on the edge of the lively Chueca area. If you plan to go to bed early, ask for a room that is on the Calle Clavel side rather than the Calle Infantas side, that will help a bit.

We are french people. It was our first stay in Madrid, A family with daughter. It was a little bit difficult to express ourself in spanish because french language is very few spoken. The Hotel was easy to access when you take the bus Hotel with aerocity. The metro is very convenient but you can visit the main touristic spots on foot within 40 minutes. The town is very busy and exciting, the people are talkative and joyfull. There are plenty restaurants and cafe the pedestrians can see beautiful mansions buildings and museums. We recommend this trip.

Tutto OK.

My comment is : nice hotel, excellent position because in the centre of Madrid. Nice room, very clean. As three stars hotel, I expected a minibar or at least something like a boiler for making a tea. Having read previous reviews i was a little concerned about the noise, but our room looked out over a side street and was quiet! The room was clean and comfortable. Perfect for a city break with my daughter. The staff were friendly and helpful, even booking our return taxi to the airport. But beware the 'distraction' thieves near the underground, a map held 'in your face' asking for directions, while your purse is snatched! Then.....several minutes later they return with the empty purse to ask for a reward at catching 'the big black man' that stole it! Otherwise fine!

The room is small and furnishings are simple, but for the price, you cannot complain. The room is clean which is the minimum I look for. It is also centrally located--few mins. from Gran Via Metro and walking distance to Plaza del Sol. Gran Via is also a nice & safe location in a shopping and theater area. My only complain is a little noise coming from the bars nearby which seem to seep into the room walls late at night. Overall, I would still recommend the place if you are looking for affordable accomodation in Madrid.

San Lorenzo is ideally located for daytime sightseeing and nights out, it is about five minutes walk from the metro and trains are frequent and cheap. The room was clean and well equipped, although we thought we would have the use of a kitchen and we didn't, and the staff are helpful. The surrounding area is noisy and busy, some reviewers have complained of noise at night, but what do you expect when you've chosen to stay in the centre of a vibrant, busy city?! It's not the countryside! A good place to stay while in Madrid, would stay there again.

The single room was very small, even by European standards. The furnishings and fixtures were shabby and damaged and were sized and situated in such a way as to minimize the living space. My main complaint is that the room was so very noisy due to street noise. We had requested a quiet room. Perhaps there are no quiet rooms at this location, in which case the management should have advised us of this and we would have found a different hotel. Also, the breakfast (additional charge) was not very good compared with other hotels. Other than that, the room was very clean and comfortable. But if you cannot sleep, what good is a comfortable bed? It seems that central Madrid is very noisy at night and that people who want to sleep need to choose their hotel very carefully.

OTTIMA LA POSIZIONE, A 100 METRI DALLA GRAN VIA. L'ALBERGO E' ABBASTANZA PULITO. LE CAMERE SONO MOLTO PICCOLE TRANNE QUELLE EXCELSIOR CHE SONO MOLTO ELEGANTI E SPAZIOSE (QUELLE CHE CI SONO NELLE FOTO PER CAPIRSI). I TAVOLI PER LA COLAZIONE SONO POCHISSIMI ED E' PRATICAMENTE IMPOSSIBILE FARLA A MENO CHE NON SI ASPETTI UN PO'. NON MOLTO CORDIALI ALLA RECEPTION E SPESSO INCOMPETENTI. Absolutely disgusted with the staff at San Lorenzo. On checking out of the hotel, they claimed I ordered room service which I did not and clearly stated that I would not be paying for something that I never ordered. I then signed the invoice for the accommodation only, but after checking my credit card statement a sum of 20 euros had been deducted a few days later WITHOUT my authorisation. I will be taking this matter further.

The hotel was very clean and the decor was tasteful and looked newly renovated. We did not have breakfast so cannot comment on the food but would thoroughly recommend this hotel to any traveller looking for good quality budget accomodation.

Don't stay at this hotel if you want to sleep at any stage since the banging from another floor, totally unchallenged by hotel staff, will keep you soundly awake! Also, if you have personal belongings, don't expect hotel staff to contribute to their safety since they were quite happy to hand our key to a complete stranger and then argue with us when challenged. Stay somewhere else. Whilst it's true that this hotel is cheap it only proves that cheap is as cheap does.

Frankly speaking, i did not expect San Lorenzo Hostal will be like that. I was really amazed how cleaned the place is. I feel like staying in a 5 star hotel. The staff are very friendly. If there's a word that i can use aside from "excellent" for over all rating, that i will use. The hostal is very close to everything in Madrid. I will definitely tell my friends to stay in that place. PERFECT PLACE TO STAY!!!

We had a good stay. The people were friendly and helpful. Saftey was well managed for their guests. The noise was high due to construction in the area.

Some rooms are very noisy, bathrooms too small and the special offer announced for the period of our staying wasn`t available.

We enjoyed our stay. OUr only complaint was that we asked for a wake up call and taxi for our morning depature and we did not recieve a call which meant we missed our taxi and were late getting to the airport.

The hotel is excellently located only a block off Gran Via and the metro. The rooms were clean and perfect for our needs. We enjoyed our stay and would stay there again. The only negative point being although the hotel staff tried their best they seemed to be understaffed at times which restricted them from making it a perfect stay.
