The location of the Hostal is excellent ! Near the Puerta del Sol Square and the Metro Station - Opera. Also it is a walking distance to the Palacio Real and the Plaza España. Calle Arenal, where it is situtated, is a pedestrian street with a nice vibe and full of restaurants and caffeterias and lots of shops !

Very nice hotel in the centre of Madrid. As soon as you walk out of the main entrance you are in a pleasant avenue with many shops and full of people. The hotel is clean and quiet. It doesn't offer many other services though (eg no breakfast). I really liked it :)

Great location right opposite the Opera metro. Easy to get to from the airport. Just a 5 minute to the centre of Madrid and 2 minutes from the Royal Palace. LOts of cafes nearby for breakfast-no dining room at the hotel. Rooms cleaned daily. Overall very good value for money.

Hostal Oriente was a wonderful surprise! Rooms neat and pretty as a picture. Quiet too - at the back. Great value for money. Excellent location -within walking distance of the Royal Palace, the Market de San Miguel, Palza Mayor and many other attractions. Metro very close by and 24 hour supermarket directly opposite the hostal. Elevator so no lugging suitcases up stairs. Staff friendly but do not speak much English. Would recommend this to any traveller on a budget.

Very good hostal; a bit noisy on the street early in the morning when people who has gone out bought something in the shop at the opposite of the hostal. Employers of the hostal are very helpfull. Happily they speak english. We could leave our luggage the last day at the hostal (our plane left at 19.20 hours). If we go again to Madrid we'll choose the same hostal!

Well, the main staff could not really speak English which is not a big deal, it is just like Spain. The rooms were really clean and towels changed everyday. The metro station "Opera" is right in front and overall the metro system though thoroughly in Spanish language, is truly user friendly.

Great hostal. Right outside Opera metro station, very easy to find and well connected. It's at the quieter end of c/Arenal, so not as noisy as I expected at all, in fact I found it to be quiet at night. (Other than, for example, hostels further up in Arenal where there is a large and busy nightclub) The place is very clean, and my room was as described. Compact, but with brand new furniture and well-equipped bathroom. Great shower, by the way. All the staff were very friendly, and there were always ladies cleaning, it was spotless. Although I would say that they are noisy when cleaning - this was around 10.30am though, so not too early. (Unless you've been out all night, of course!)The man on reception was very friendly and efficient, although I get the impression he doesn't really speak English. (I spoke in Spanish anyway, so I'm not 100% sure) The price is also good for what you get. There are a couple of cheaper places, but they are nowhere near as friendly and clean as this place. Overall, it was a good experience, and I'd definitely stay again.

The hotel is very closed to the main city attractions that can be easily reached and to the metro station. The room was quite small, but in any case very clean and with silence, the window opened on a closed space so that no street traffic disturbed me. The persons at the reception have been very kind and available for information and in helping me. I suggest this hotel, it is located in the centre near puerta del sol, the real palace an the cathedral. I will surely stay in this hotel next time I go to Madrid.

We booked this hotel for 3 nights it was the perfect location. In plaza Izabel II where Opera metro station just few steps from the hotel, under the hotel you can find Mcdonalds , pizzarea... In the area you can find all kinds of restaurants all of them offer breakfast (because the hotel doesn’t). Plaza Del Sol is 5min walk from the hotel as well plaza De Mayor, Cathedral of the Almudena and the Palacio Real… The hotel room was clean, warm with nice decoration but the rooms are v. small and has everything you need.

The doorway into the shower stall may be too narrow for a large person. I asked for a quiet, interior room away from the street noise - and got it. The subway entrance is just a few steps from the hostel entrance. A bar across the street is handy for breakfast. The hostel is very close to Puerta del Sol.

A friendly, small hotel, with a great room and property location. Staff helpful but conversing in English was difficult. Arrived late and finding the door to the hotel was a problem, hotel is in a large block with reception on 1st floor. Area is very central but due to the building of a new subway link very noisy/dusty from early morning. Rooms in front of hotel had this noise plus late night/early morning revelers. I would return again but ask for a room at the rear of the hotel. Also next time will be easier to find :-). Great value..

As our last stop in our 3 weeks trip in France & Spain, Hostal Oriente in Madrid was our home for 3 wonderful nights (Aug 6 – Aug 9, 2010). We had a double room for 65€/night on the 2nd floor and have chosen this hotel/hostel for its amazing location and some really good reviews. Needless to say, it proved to be exactly what we needed to finish our incredible odyssey through France & Spain on a high note. GOOD: The location is simply outstanding with all the major Madrid sights within walking distance. The Opera Metro is at your door steps and the Palacio Real is only 5 min away on foot. The room was very clean and we enjoyed the setup of the lounge within the huge apartment divided in the various hostel rooms. The rooms are definitely hotel quality with all the regular comforts (except a fridge). The key card opens not only your door, but also the 2nd floor apartment door and the main entrance door which gives you a sense of security that no one can get in this hotel uninvited. BAD: The AC (even though it had a quiet setting) was positioned slightly above my side of the bed blowing directly onto me (fortunately it has some sort of direction swing which alleviated some of the draft during the night). The first receptionist did not speak a word of English, but I managed to get some information regarding parking. The safe available in the room costs 1€ per use (each time you close it) so we chose not to take “advantage” of this money grab. The free Wi-Fi in the room was convenient, but it was not available during the night. PARKING: Driving to the hostel can be very frustrating especially as it is actually located on a pedestrian walkway, but on which cars are allowed to travel for a short portion. Finding parking in central Madrid is even worse and the prices are the most expensive in Spain. The receptionist directed me to a nearby private underground lot on Calle de la Escalinata (open 7am to 11pm only) where we ended up paying 22€/day.

I must say that I had an incredible time at Hostal Oriente. The best thing of this Hostal is obviously the location: just two steps from the Opera Station, in one of the main streets of Madrid's center (Calle Arenal), less than five minute walking from Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor and the Royal Palace. Good souvenirs' stores on the surroundings and lots of restaurants and bars that gave me plenty of options to eat anytime I wanted. All in all, I had a great time at Hostal Oriente. As I was traveling alone, I can't complain about the room's space. Finally, the only problem is the air conditioner, that could be a little stronger - but that wasn't really a problem, once I didn't have any trouble to sleep.

We were worried about staying here as we thought it would only be a step away from a Hostel but it was absolutely fantastic. It was spotlessly clean, the décor was lovely throughout and the room was well equipped, modern and had a lovely french window looking onto the street below - great for people watching! The common facilities were good, vending machines etc and the free internet access was a good touch. The staff didn't really speak English but they were very friendly and we managed to be understood just fine. The best thing about the hotel though is the location - right in the heart of old Madrid, seconds away from the Palace, Puerta del Sol and Plaze Mayor etc and surrounded by great restaurants. After our initial worry this hotel couldn't have worked out better for our 3 night break and I would recommend it to anyone looking to stay in the heart of the city while remaining on a budget.

Well located hotel in pedestrian precinct. Nearby taxi rank, but you won't get dropped off at the door (an unassuming entrance, shared with apartments. Heavy if you're frail). Functional lift. Some construction work (when we stayed) and street nightlife means noise must be kept out with effective double glazed windows. Effective heating. Comfortable beds. Clean and functional bathroom. Wifi in room (101). Staff have very limited English, but are helpful. I enjoyed my brief stay here and am returning in a few weeks.

Excellent location, within three minutes walk to Plaza Mayor, Palacio Real or Puerta del Sol and 15-20 minutes walk even to Prado. Very clean. My room was on the small side but quite all right for one who spent one's time running about Madrid. Only Spanish TV channels, which was fine by me. The walls were not exactly soundproof but things were suprisingly quiet at night. Altogether, a very decent hotel, and very good at the price

We enjoyed our stay so much that we booked another night at the end of our trip. We were surprised by the spaciousness of the 1st room we had; but we checked-in early the 2nd time around and got a much smaller space. Beds were firm; water pressure was strong in shower and hot water was good. The desk staff is very kind. Although they speak no English, one of the cleaning staff does and is happy to help. The location could not be better. Special note: although Calle Arenal is a pedestrian zone don't let cab drivers tell you that they have no access! We can't wait to return!

Fantastic location, between Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol, on a lively but not noisy street. Fantastic price, too. The hotel is basic but perfectly ok. My room was small but not absurdly so, and very clean. The bath was newly renovated. It was fairly quiet. There were many students staying (perhaps long-term, too?), which made for some loud talking in the hallways but nothing worse than that. Some music students practised violin in their rooms, but since they were very good that was not a hardship. No breakfast, but plenty of cafes on the street. There is wifi, and if you're lucky you can get it in your room; otherwise, in the lounge. I have no complaints and hope to return.

I found this place on the web: needed a hotel to stay for 2 nights with my mother. Since we planned on sightseeing non-stop, we were concerned with finding a place at a convenient location, that was clean, safe and inexpensive. We found it! The Oriente is perfectly located a stone's throw from the Opera metro station, there are multiple neighborhoods and attractions that are within walking distance. The place is a lovely, renovated, old building with an elevator. It has a lot of green and modern amenities that I did not expect: lights on motion detectors, card key access to the street entry and every floor, etc. It is a little noisy due to being right at the entrance of the pedestrian zone, and there is currently construction at the Metro station. But i could not recommend this place more highly. It was perfect, and even my somewhat uptight mother did not have a complaint :) btw - the staff there are incredibly nice, and they even return email!

The hotel is perfect for long and short stays. Room and services are excellent. But cleaning ladies make much noise very early in the morning and you can loudly hear when your neighbour is having a shower... which is a bit annoying late at night. The rest (location, service, etc.) is perfect. 8/10 overall! :)

Located 1 block from Opera Metro stop. Walking distance to Puerta de Sol, Plaza Mayor & Palace. Great location. Hostal was clean and quiet. Opera Pizza next door. Shopping nearby. Flamenco a few blocks away at local Theatre. The room was small but was perfect for me as I don't hang out in the room. Had a single bed, desk with chair, closet, safe and private restroom. Perfect for me! One small issue - I reserved room with American Express but had to use Visa to pay as they do not accept American Express.

Really perfect hotel, spotlessly clean, absolutely basic, with a fantastic price to boot. Nothing more or less than needed. Staff speak no English, but were very patient, and attempting the local language adds to the experience. Reception is 24-hours. Location perfect - very easy to find, on a pedestrian street just off Sol, the absolute centre-point of Madrid. Was in a back room which had little natural light but no noise. Would advise you turn on aircon when you don't want to sleep as it blows onto the head of the bed, but can be quite hot and stuffy without. No breakfast included. Great value for money. Would unhesitatingly recommend and return.

Excellent overall, very convenient location. Wifi signal is weak if your room is too far from lobby. Limited English speaking staff during my stay but not really a problem. Motion sensitive lights but they turn off very quickly.

The common area of the Hostal Oriente was not conducive to meeting people. The hotel was quiet, clean and a great location near the Metro and pedestrian shopping area of Madrid. Good central location. The front desk staff knew little English so you are on your own if you needed help. The maid did speak English. Good value and great location.

This was one of the cleanest hotels we have stayed in. Excellent value for money. Very pleasant staff. Worthwhile taking a travel kettle if you like a cup of tea or coffee . Brilliant air conditioning.

The hostal is located on a pedestrian street right next to the opera metro station and a very short distance to the plaza de oriente and the palacio real, plaza mayor is a short walk the other way. A great location. The rooms overlooking the street (good view) are more noisy than those over looking the courtyard (bad view)...so there are pros and cons. The room was clean. The desk staff did not speak english, this is not a problem, as we only needed to know the room number and how much to pay (which matched the price quoted). Would stay again.

Stayed for 3 nights in Madrid. Found this hotel to be very good value and ideally situated for exploring Madrid. Only problem was external noise on Friday night as people still talking and walking around this Opera House area up until 4am.

Oriente is good value for money. Its central location was one of our reasons for choosing it, although we knew it would be noisy as a result. Staff extremely helpful. No breakfast facilities but as there are cafeterias opposite and next door this hardly matters. We would be happy to stay again.

Great stay in a double room. Good value, comfy beds and pillows, and excellent location right across from the Opera metro stop.

This hotel is visible from the Metro-Opera station, easy to find. This portion of the Calle Arenal is a walking street, so the hotel is fairly quiet as there is no traffic rumbling by. I stayed in 2 rooms over 4 nights, and both were very clean, but basic and small. Two minor items, the shower doors in both rooms were off their tracks and difficult to use, and the safe in one room was not bolted to the wall. I would definitely stay here again though, as there was good value for money, the staff was friendly and helpful, and it was close to everything.

Exceptional location:pedestrial street, very safe at night even for 2 midlle aged women travelling alone; lots of shopping near by as well as pharmacy, newstand, places to eat, taxi stop, subway ( metro opera 30 meters away), walking distance ( less than 3 minutes) to puerta del sol, plaza mayor, royal palace( my 67's years old mom walked easely). personal eletronic card control the access to the hostal front door and the room.Elevator for 2 people + 2 HUGE bags Small and basic rooms but VERY clean, airy, renewed w private safety box,tv and phone.Bathroom small but totaly new and clean. Don't serve breakfast , but plenty of tasty places to explore at the door step.Attentive personel.Would return AGAIN AND AGAIN!

This hostal was perfect. It is right opposite Metro Opera and within walking distance to most attractions in central Madrid, and especially central for shopping, is reasonably priced, and I was amazed at the quality of the room. It was absolutely spotless, cosy, the bed was massive and the shower was like heaven. With the air-conditioning and the silence (inside the hotel that is, the streets of Madrid sleep for no man!) I would definitely return and recommend to others. Please note we didn't take breakfast as I always find a nearby cafe cheaper and with better coffee! We didn't see anyone else while we were there, which I like but might not be good for single travellers.

Very basic, but excellent value and exactly what we expected for the money. Location overlooking Plaza Isabel II so noisy but suited us and very entertaining. Plenty of places nearby for desayuno. Limited facilities to sit down and read or chat and we hardly ever saw anyone. Ideal place for our two-night stopover on the way to Galicia.

We (young couple) have spent 4 nights in Hostal Oriente and we were really contented. Location is great, right beside Opera metro station. Only five minutes walk from Plaza Puerta del Sol. Staff is kind, the room was quiet (we had a room facing the patio, rooms facing the street could have been noisier). The room was also small but very nice and VERY CLEAN! Towels have been changed every day. I recommend it!
