Good central location to our activities, Prado, Plaza Mayor, Atocha station, etc. Noisy at night. Construciton in main entry way during the day. However good value for the cost. Only real gripe is that I was not able to use a credit card for payment. Although I reserved with a credit card they insisited on Euros which forced me to access the ATM upon leaving in order to have travel funds.

The staff was not pleasant, and it was difficult to find the hotel (there is a big sign "Hostal Cervelo Martin" on the building but as we entered the main gate we could not find where the hostal is. )

This has to be one of the noisiest hotels ever. Location good but noise from inside and outside all night without interruption so getting to sleep a big problem!

Très bon hôtel correspondant aux critères. les plus : proche des lieux d'intérêts, on peut tout faire à pied. le personnel de l'hôtel est très serviable. les moins : chambre un peu petite.

We enjoyed our stay - the staff were very helpful. Good location, but street noise at night can be a problem. The size of the bathroom is hilariously small. Can only sit on the toilet sideways. In spite of this, I would recommend this place.

Quiet hotel (because we weren't on the main street but behind) near EVERYTHING !!! The employees are nice and the rooms are made everyday. Internet is free. I recommand this hotel.

My 2 daughters and I REGRETABLY stayed here on Jan 30th, 2008. We travel A LOT- we have been to 5 continents- and have never been treated so poorly. There wasn't even a desk- just a room with a couple tables and 3 "kids" on computers and phones--all of them had no interest in their customers waitng forever in the hall. We were about to walk out to look for something else when someone threw a key at us with no direction, or apology for keeping us waiting so long--after flying all night it was quite the disappointing first impression of Spain. The hotel was a joke--rundown, dark, dreary and they had boxes and furniture piled up in every corner, the room was small and beds weren't good, and no toilet paper. I would never stay here again--and would advise others not to as well. On a whole we may never go back to Spain at all--we encountered extremely rude people at the train stations as well--we actually changed our plans and went to Lisbon...it was like night and day--the Portugese were SO NICE, and FRIENDLY --we had a great time there and we are so glad we said to hell with Spain!!! AND--They charged me an extra night when we needed to change dates due to flight delays which were out of our control, AND no one said a word about that-- I didn't know until we got back home 2 weeks later. These people are just the ultimate in rude and snotty, and should find another business (perhaps sewage treatment) to run where they don't have to be **bothered** with customers.

The hotel is near Victria station, so it is really convinient to access anywhere. And also hotel staff is quite professional. I spent nice time in London thanks to the hotel.

Good value for money, basic but clean, it can be a bit noisy if one gets a room on the street. The room was not very big, especially the bathroom, but the Hostel was very well positioned.

The people at Cervelo placed us in a hostel like housing for students on the same road very close to Cervelo itself. This because we were staying 6 nights witch seemed to be longer then the most people stay. This Place was very relaxed and the staff was really friendly. The rooms were excelent in relationship with the price. As we didn't stay in Cervelo itself is this rating not for Cervelo...

I would like to recommend Hotel Cervelo: it's so well placed that you need'nt get any transportation to visit all the most important places of Madrid (and you can have a rest between one visit and the other ones). It is also practical from and to Barajas Airport. The underground station is at 100 meters!

Ciao a tutti! Vacanza consigliabilissima!

Service was NOT good, they wanted us to pay cash and not with the card we reserved the room, location is probably the only good thing about this horrible place. Nearby at Plaza Mayor the meals are very good. I would NEVER stay at this hotel again.

We cecked in Cervelo at 1 am-problem was that even I send email and made call to the property, somebody forgot to inform Venere so we lost money due to cancellation policy ( they sent it back in few days). By the way Cervelo hostal was full so receptionist delegated as to St. Martin Hostal 100m away.So our reveiw is about St. martin Hostal. The hostal is in the heart of the city, close to subway, shops, pubs and in walking distance of main sights. Our room was quiet, reconstructed and clean - cleaning each day. We recommend to visit Toledo.

After reading some earlier comments, regarding the pri-payments and that credit cards are not accepted by the Hostel. I wrote an email to the Hostel before the arrival. They replied that they do accept credit cards and that they get the payment at check out. All what they promised, they kept!!! I also get the two rooms I ordered, at the back side of the building as I requested (not towards the high street)! There was no noise in the rooms, the rooms were always clean and the receptionist understood English. There is no breakfast, but next to the Hostel at 45 Atocha St, there is a cozy restaurant with different meals including a breakfast meal. We took a continental breakfast made of cafe, glass of fresh orange juice and a croissant (made of different types) for 2.95 euro, per person. The location is excellent. It is possible to walk with baggage to the Atocha Railway station by walk from the Hostel, but the other way is difficult due to the location of the Railway which is much lower geographically.

If you just need a cheap place to crash it is an excellent choise. Nothing fancy, but nice and clean. It can also be a good thing if you don't have any problems with a bit of noise from the neighbouring rooms.

Quite disappointing experience. We have been accompained through some endless, bad smelling and dark corridors, we climbed some floors (2, if I remember correctly) and finally got in our designated room (which was actually part of another hostel). The room wasn't that bad, just slightely dump-stinking. But the exterior environment could have been the best choice for an horror movie. They asked for pre-pay before we could see the room, but we stated we wouldn't pay until check-out. On check-out, they did not accept credit cards, compelling us to go and withdraw money under heavy rain in order to pay the check. On the other hand, the hostel is situated in a very good position, close to the historical center of madrid. I would be glad to return to this hostel, but at no more than half price.

This feels like a college dorm, from the pressboard furniture to the depressing lighting. You buzz in at the front door and there is no reception desk. It took us a while to figure out that the reception is on the 2nd floor behind a door. You leave your key at the counter every time you leave, and the poor oversight of the board with everyone's keys on it seems a theft risk. There were large holes in the molding that looked chewed, but we did not see any mice. Some of the staff were very nice, some were sullen and extremely unhelpful. The air conditioning is a unit that comes with a remote control to adjust the temperature. You have to call the front desk to get them to turn it on at all. Then, if you want to adjust the settings, you have to call again and they walk down the hall with the remote, change the settings, and take the remote back with them. Location is fine. The price is quite cheap, and it shows. Even as a student I would not stay there again. Anyone who wouldn't feel comfortable in a dorm room (mature traveler's and families) would probably not feel comfortable here.

My friend and I stayed for 5 days and were very happy. The staff were very friendly, and the hotel was very clean. Our room was cleaned every day with fresh towels provided, which I wasn't expecting for a room that was about £25 each a night. There was a little bit of noise from outside, mainly because the building also has some apartments, but this contributed to a welcoming feeling of being somewhere typically Spanish, hearing people coming and going, rather than a sterile hotel room. Nothing earplugs wouldn't block out anyhow. The location was also great, 15 mins walk from the station and the Prado. We recommend staying!

We had two different rooms at two different times during our trip. The first room was on the 3rd floor and was nice and quite. The second room was right beside the office, facing the street and was very noisy. Clerks spoke English well and were very helpful. They were happy to call an airport shuttle for us. Free internet access was a huge bonus. Room was quite clean but small. There was some sort of problem with their credit card machine and wanted us to pay cash but this was fixed by the next time we stayed there (a week later).

For me, it was a big surprise to see that, behind a quite "old and not so well-repaired front door", there was a wonderful small hostal, with clean and beautiful rooms and bathrooms. The location is great..you have good cafeterias and bars/restaurants around and the region is really safe..I really recommend it!!

The hotel was in walking distance for the main attractions, and was only about a minutes walk from a tube terminal. The rooms were clean and well presented and good value for money. There weren't any tea/coffee making facilities in the room, but the use of a microwave down the corridor if you wanted a hot drink. The only downside was that you could hear other guests converstaions as they walked down the corridor word for word. The hotel was good value for money and well positioned for the tube/airport. With a good bakery and grocery store down the road for breakfast.

It is not like a hotel but like the student dormitory. Therefore, there is no front and it was surprised. It seemed some hotels (Each floor is making the hotel which became independent, respectively. And there is also another building) combine. A location is very good. It is close to a subway. We also walked to the station for about 10 minutes. It was very convenient of useing Internet, as we came from japan. But there is only one computer and it was considerably crowded. Although a bathroom is small, it is enough equipped fully. It was new and was pleasant.Although we were surprised as we had never been stay the hotel of such a style, the width of the room and equipment were enough. And the price was very cheap.

We were looking for an inexpensive but clean double room with bathroom in central Madrid. This is what Cervelo is and we've been pretty satisfied with it. Our room was a bit noisy, with the noise coming from the corridor, other rooms and inner court, but since we slept with ear plugs, we didn't mind that much. The location is rather good: some 50 meters to the metro station Anton Martin and at a ten-minute walk from Plaza Mayor and Puerta del Sol. Staff speaks English, even though we didn't really have to say much to each other: check in and out, that's all.

Low rating due to major renovation work going on (Late May/Early June 2003)resulting in much noise and dirt on access stairs and lift area. What really spoiled it for us was the bedroom ceiling falling in due to a large piece of concrete being dislodged and landing by the entrance to shower room spreading dust and grime over everything, including our clothes. More importantly, anyone unfortunate enough to be under this part of the ceiling would have been killed (ie it could have been us!). We were moved to another room, obviously, but were not offered any discount until we had to ask for one at the end of our stay. We received a reduction of 5.40Euros on a bill of 173.10Euros (3 nights). Not impressed!
