We stayed at El Putxet hostal in late June 2009. The rooms are rather small, but the place is clean and relatively quiet. The Hostal is also very close to a metro that goes straight to the center of the city. Just two difficulties: no hostal parking available, and the air-conditionning isn't indiviualised per room.

Me and my boyfriend stayed in El Putxet for 4 nights. The room was clean and big enough for both of us and our backpacks - there was also a wardrobe to keep our clothes in and a desk where we could use our laptop. (Internet cable is provided for free in the reception, although we used an open wi-fi net) The hotel is within walking distance to subway and fgc stations. As we like to walk, we would leave the hotel in the morning and walk to Parc Güell, Sagrada Família and other touristic places. Those are longer walks, but can be done. As some other comments mention, the walls are indeed thin and you can hear some noise coming from the other rooms, but nothing too loud or too annoying. In general, it's a good hostal for the price. I would recomend it and would stay there again!

we've got what the website promised: a small, very clean room, with a confortable french bed (instead of the double-, ok... this was a fault), a tiny, complete ensuite bathroom (with a large shower!), for a very low price! the metro station 'lesseps' is 5 minutes on foot from hotel, and in front of it there's a cafè with delicious pastries to take away or eat in!!!

The hostal staff were polite and friendly and assisted us in getting an early morning taxi back to the airport. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of hot water for a shower each morning. The hostal was very basic but we didn't expect more because the price was reasonable. However, the walls were very thin,so any sounds from other rooms and the corridors could be heard easily. The noise of the traffic outside was far too loud to allow us have the window open at night but there was no air conditioning to cool the room. Our toilet flush broke on our first night, so we told reception and they attempted to fix it but even after they attempted to fix it, the flush still did not work properly. On the website, the hostal boasts the following: 1. It is right next to Gaudi's park 2. It is right next to Lesseps metro station 3. It has a "Reading room" However, in reality: 1. Gaudi's park is a good 25 mins' walk away 2. Lesseps metro station is a good 15 mins' walk away. 3. The "reading room" comprised two armchairs in a dark corridor with no windows! In all three cases, the claims on the website are quite misleading! This hostal is a bit far away from the tourist sights of Barcelona but it provided what we needed; a bed for the night. If we had been on a higher budget, we would definitely have booked a hotel nearer to the port/Las Ramblas with more facilities, such as a air conditioning, a lounge, breakfast and larger, quieter rooms.

In our arrival to the hotel, the reception did not find our booking realized 4 months earlier! Fortunately, there was an available room. We stayed at 3 nights in the hotel. The room was pleasant, modern and clean but badly soundproofed and it was difficult to communicate with the staff. We however fell on a very nice young man one evening. The hotel proposes in free access a computer with free internet access at the rate of one hour a day and a person; very practical. The hotel is far from the city center on foot but there is a subway station in 5 minutes on foot. The hotel does not propose breakfast but there is an excellent bakery in 2 minutes on foot and an excellent tapas bar next the metro station lesseps.
