This hotel almost meets American standards and is ideally situated in the heart of Madrid. The closest Metro stop, Sol, is a few meters away so there is no need whatsoever for an auto. We just wished the fridge would get colder and that hotel woul provide ice for its guests.

A good location with convenient access to restaurants, transport and historic sites. Excellent view of the city from on-off tour bus....recommendable. Very good restaurants more likely to be found elsewhere in Madrid than Plaza Mayor.........

EXCELLENT location. Walking distance to everything. Did not need to take the Metro except from the airport. Was able to walk to train station. Essentially adjacent to Plaza Mayor. Quiet. Shower was superb with water jets coming out from side. Has hair dryer. Bunk beds for kids. Separate from for adults without door. Bed for adults was hard.

This hotel was awesome! It is located in the perfect spot for all there is to do and see in Old Madrid. The rooms were great and the staff was very helpful. Would highly recommend this hotel. The summer breakfast special (2 for 1) was a good deal and made it very convenient for our family.

The hotel location is great, very central but quite (a few steps from Plaza Mayor). I spent 4 days in Madrid with my family (2 teens) and we hv been given a family room that was very big and comfortable. Nice young staff. The surroundings offer everything you want (Puerta del Sol). Tube station around the corner.

Excellent situation of this hotel, a few steps away from Plaza Mayor and metro station Sol. I can recommend it to all people who want to visit Madrid for 2 - 3 days. Particularly appreciated: breakfasts served and services available.

Excellent position (two steps from the Plaza Mayor), beautiful hotel full of options. Helpful and kind staff. The breakfast seems to be a bit expensive, above all because there are plenty of opportunities nearby, so that we didn't try it

Fantastic location, the oldest hotel in Madrid renewed in a fashionable modern style. People stop in front of the hotel to take pictures. The price is excellent for the service, the location and the quality of this hotel. I suggest this hotel and it's my fifth travel in Madrid.

This hotel is very nice and is in a great location. The room was on the 3rd floor and was quiet considering it overlooked a cafe and stores on a pedestrian thoroughfare. The quad room was comfortable and had a separate bedroom with a full bed. The main room had bunk beds for our 2 teenage kids. The bathroom was modern and nice. Staff was friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend it and stay here again.

Although we actually got transferred from the Petit Palace to another branch nearby, this was handled very efficiently and our room was clean and spacious and our children enjoyed having a pc to use. The staff were very accommodating and efficient about looking after our luggage the day after we checked out.

Absolutely amazing room and position of hotel! As four young girls, location felt safe as it was right in the middle of everything - very easy to get to all the sights! Would definitely stay here again. Had absolutely no problems - even had free internet access in the room and staff were very friendly and helpful! Would reccommend highly!

Our party booked two rooms for four nights at the end of May/start of June. One was a family room for four persons and the other a double for my wife's parents. Both rooms were very well situated and presented. The staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. The rooms both had free broadband, which meant we could keep up daily with Madrid weather, news and events and also those at home. My teenage daughter could also keep up with her friends on MSN! The aircon didn't work particularly well in our room, but to be fair, the weather was unusually cool for the time of year.

We took our children with us (age 11 and 7) so we reserved the family room at the top of the hotel (6th floor). It was wonderful - reasonable price, spacious, isolated from other guests, bunk beds, etc... The kids love it; they didn't want to leave. Beside all, the hotel is right at the center of Madrid.

hello, I recently stayed at this hotel, a week-end in march. It was supposed to be a double room, named as HIGH TECH, and described with an apartment bike, a sauna and king size bed. that was a big disappointment to discover we got none of the characteristics announced. Besides we got 2 separate beds, which we considered the most important of our choices ! apart from that the hôtel is nice and really well located. But a compensation would have been welcomed as all our wishes were not respected. They gave us an EXECUTIVE room instead of the HIGH TECH we ordered on internet... And nobody seemed to bother about it...

Good things: excellent breakfast, friendly service, central location could not be more convenient for a walking tour of central Madrid. Laptop and broadband internet access provided in the room were very useful. Room was cold on arrival (mid-winter) and took two days to settle to comfortable. Be aware that the hotel is in a pedestrian area and taxis cannot drive to the door - walk of about 50 metres needed.

I think that the Posada del Peine caters more to young backpackers than to families with children. For example, the woman behind the desk ordered the bellhop to assist two other single guests who checked in after us with a single piece of luggage and ignored my wife and children who had five pieces of luggage. I was off parking the car and the room was on the second floor with no elevator available.

Location was excellent! The reception (small lobby & please don't bother me attitude) was not. the price for our room was excellent probably due to a summer promotion which we thank Venere. Business room: 2 laptops in the basement where they also served breakfast - was freezing & had an unpleasant odor. not sure if it was because of the food or the basement or both. The bathroom had an interesting steam/shower stall that could use a manual. If your purpose for a hotel is for rest in between sightseeing, eating, & shopping - this is the location for you.

We were very pleased with our stay. The location and the hotel itself were charming. The view to the small,car-less square from our balcony reminded me of staying in Venice. We felt very comfortable walking in the area at any hour. Most of the staff spoke a little English...some were more helpful than others. Wish I knew the name of the young man at the desk who was very helpful in getting us bull-fight tickets and directions to places. I was glad to be warned by past notes about the glass bathroom walls. We brought duct tape, in case we wanted to tape up a sheet for privacy. (traveling with our 2 teenagers) Glass was frosted enough we didn't bother. However a small flashlight would have been helpful to avoid waking the whole family when turning on the bathroom light in the middle of the night. Lights up both sleeping quarters through the glass!! Why did they ever design it this way. All in all it was a great visit. We would stay here again. Zienty Family

A heavy glass light fitting which was secured by masking tape smashed onto the bathroom floor nearly injuring my partner, when this was reported to reception in person as the telephone in the room did not work they simply smiled and pretended to have poor english. The glass was eventually swept up but the live wire was left hanging inches above the sink for the duration of our stay!! Staff were exceptionally rude, ignoring waiting guests whilst chatting to their friends on the phone or texting. In addition to the appalling customer service the rooms were very cramped, I am only 5ft 5 in height and hit my head off the slanted roof several times, seems like they managed to squeeze a few rooms into the linen closets! I have stayed in many hotels in my lifetime and I can safely say this is one of the worst.

The hotel is located in the very center of Madrid so close to all sights and transportation. However the hotel itself is very noisy. We were woke up by a cleaning lady at 8:00 on Sunday. No signs for the emergency exit. One day the lift broke down and we had to call the reception to ask how to get downstairs. Will not stay there again.

The Hotel is situated in a central position very close to the Plaza Mayor. It is in a pedestrian zone so confusion can arise with pickup and drop off from taxis. We arrived late in the evening and found that we had been put in a single room with twin beds just for the first night, because our room hadn't quite been finised - the hotel was in the final stage of a full refurb (the lifts were unavailable for two days). We were not bothered by this and were given a complimentary breakfast the next morning. All our luggage was moved during the following day. The new room was a double but it was not that large. Fixtures and fittings take some getting used to - glass walls to the bathroom, superduper shower, weird sinks (different in every room?) Both rooms had a good electronic safe that took our laptop. We never did get the wifi working on our laptop though it was supposed to be available in the hotel. Overall we think it was good value especially considering its location, breakfast was not included like most of these European mainland Hotels and could be had cheaper locally. We would certainly stay there again.

For those who look for a fantastic location at a reasonable price- this is it. The hotel is in a bustling sidestreet just off Plaza Mayor, hence it wasn't always the quietest spot, but it was ideal for sampling the unique atmosphere of life in Madrid. I'd definitely return. The only minor niggle was the lack of a real bar at the hotel- however there is a great little 'Cerveceria' literally by the front door of the hotel. Staff were friendly (with a slight air of indifference) and efficient. Rooms are very modern but without being 'clinical'- overall, we were very pleased with our stay.

Fantastic location in pedestrian area next to Plaza Mayor. Very clean modern rooms with super bathroom but size of rooms did seem to vary. We changed for a more spacious room with a proper window with a view outside which was much better. Breakfasts were extra but well worth the money (there was a special offer), a really good range of food.
