My two friends and I loved this hotel. We stayed at the Windsor house. The room was HUGE and spotless. It would have been nice to have even local channels on the TV, but we were there so little... If you want to be waited on, then don't go here. Check in and check out was the only time we saw anybody. This was NOT important to us. The location was only about 10 minutes from the center of town, but remember that the city is on a hill, so if you are older, like me, you may not like the walking. I did end up taking a taxi once, when we left early in the morning for a tour, but it was very inexpensive. I will stay here next time I am in town. Very nice place.

We had booked Lantern Guesthouse but were transfered into the sister guesthouse Windsor guesthouse in order to have a room with a view. The room was large for 3 persons and was fine with shower.

We found the room comfortable and very convenient for all attractions, and for a variety of restaurants and pubs. (We recommend The Conan Doyle,a place to get a good-value, freshly-cooked meal at a fair price.Main course about £7)The bathroom was a bit cramped; we could have done with shelves and a towel rail, and a larger wash basin. Arm chair would have been nice. Liked the attractive Georgian features of the house and the decor. Helpful staff- carried cases and arranged taxi on our day of departure. I'd go again, but my husband prefers Travelodge! (Perhaps the price will put him off!)

Nice location, quiet residential street a few blocks from the more busy areas which makes it within walking distance of everything. Michael was very helpful and helped carry our bags to the 2nd floor room(no elevator). Only negative is that the room is a little too small for 2 people, but ideal for one. Bathroom is really a WC(Water closet), with room for only one person, standing room only. Room painted and decorated nicely.

There was no room at the Lantern, so they moved us to the Windsor on the same street. Horrible small shower. The sink was the size of a cereal bowl, with hairs in the plug hole. Nowhere near to have breakfast, just a new complex of bars with the usual chain of restaurants, but no decent breakfast served anywhere, even though the web page emphasises the proximity of cafes. Definetly not good value for money, 75 pounds a night and no clean towels on the second day, just nothing to write home about.

We had a really good time here, although we just staid one night. I would just recommend the hotel to everybody who is looking for a clean, affordable room in the almost city centre. Super welcoming hotel.

The Lantern house provides very basic accomodations. It is comfortable and clean but because it is an old house you can hear everything. If you are just looking for a clean, safe place to crash while you are in Edinburgh then it's fine. The location is within walking distance to almost everything. The owners were very nice and helpful.

Lantern House was is ideal for people who just want a place to stay in a convenient position in Edinburgh and don't want full hotel facilities. It was clean, quiet and handy with lots of places to eat within easy reach. We wanted to come and go as we wished without time constraints and this was perfect.

Very close to many cool places of the city and not far from the centre. It's annoysing to have to communicate exactly the arrival time. Considering the price they could include breakfast

Excellent place to stay for a young couple. Located near to John Lewis' and Princes Street. Only about a ten min walk from the Royal Mile. Clean, comfy accomadation. Excellent value for money. We have stayed in Edinburgh before, on the Royal Mile and found this location much quieter but still as convenient for sight seeing and night life. Would stay there again.
