USA, Nov 2008
I'm from California, a frequent flyer businessman. The room was about $75 USD at the time of my stay. The 1st room was clean, but the bathroom had a sliding plastic door and wierd tile floor in the shower. Just too old. In the US this was a $25 room outside of town. It was next to the overly loud elevator, there was a LOT of noise at night and people smoking in the stair well - and it stunk up my room. The 2nd room on the 5th floor was quiter with normal doors! Room was OK, bed OK. Rgular tub with hand spray nozzle. Much better. This is a $45 room outside a major US city. The TVs are all old style on antennae. That means NO CNN, or BBC or any international news. About 4 local channels. REALLY POOR choices. The internet was ONLY available downstairs at 1 PC and it did not work on the first 4 days of my 5 day stay. This is NOT OK for a business man. I went to a inet cafe about 2 blocks away. Breakfast food is ok - average. There were coffee maker / cups in my room with no coffee. Elevator button does not work on 5th floor - you have to walk down to 4th floor for it to work. Strange. The currency exchange was set on 7 Rand to $1 USD - the OLD RATE (It was 10.4 to 1 when I was there). Therefore, the cost to exchange was about 30 5o 40% in there favor! Basically, management does not watch the hotel, the employees are nice, but no cable, no internet and no exchange workable currency exchange. If you are a student or don't need these things then its OK. The area has a police security person on every corner with a walkie talkie - they are there to keep tourists safe. I walked around till 11 at night and felt safe. Can get taxis fairly easy here. Its 8 min to the Victoria/Albert harbour area during non rush times -and double during rush hour. Some taxis start the meter at 150 rand and others start at 500 rand. The 2nd group also make their meter run twice as fast as the first group. I jumped out of a taxi one time as I felt I was goin

Pros: Inexpensive and central location. Decent breakfast. Cons: No internet in rooms (very expensive one in the lobby). My room was somewhat noisy (permanent fan-like noise).

Room lighting not the best. Not may TV channels to choose from. Takes a while for hot water in the bathroom, had to run the faucet quite a while. Good breakfast buffet, much better than most for a two star hotel. Friendly, helpful staff.

It is an avarage hotel but spacious rooms, perfect location. Breakfast is for free, not really good, but sufficient. Breakfast rooms looks very modern. Is renovated!

Bedrooms facing the street are extremely noisy. The hotel, also, is plagued by cockroaches. I renewed my reservation to return at a later date, but the hotel claims thet had no record of this, and the employee I dealt with was unpleasant and unwilling to resolve the situation. To be fair, the hotel has an excellent breakfast bar, the best I experienced in South Africa! It is also one of the cheapest places to stay in Cape Town -- so if cockroaches, incomptence, and rudeness are ok with you, it is not bad value!

If you want to be in downtown Cape Town for a good price this place is for you. The decor is very basic but O.K. The hotel seemed very secure. Be sure to confirm that the hotel has confirmed your reservations by telephone prior to arrival. They are frequently overbooked. Breakfasts are very good. They serve lunch and dinner upon request. The internet and the laundry service is overpriced. For internet walk two blocks to Long Street. An internet service in a cafe is available til midnight seven days a week for a fee that is ten times less than at the hotel. After sunset, I don't recommend walking alone for more than three or four blocks from the hotel. Use a taxi which are not cheap but not very expensive.

Good basic value. Generally clean, good filling breakfast. Bathrooms tired and a bit tatty but clean. Mattress had suffered years of one person sleeping on one side! Very good central location with no problems walking around and down to waterfront despite scaremongerers. Would recommend it as a cheap central place to stay

It's a good and really cheap hotel in the City. One of the problems which an European faces there is that there are no electtic adapters available neither in the rooms nor at the reception. The second issue are the taxies: when you order one at the reception they set the price themselves and get their share.
