Farm House Tenuta di Canonica - Canonica, Todi

Pls do not call it a "farm home" it is not a farm it is a beautiful country house with music room, reading room, tv room etc. and swimming pool. it does not look or feel like a farm. however, it is a little difficult to find.

This unbelievably beautiful, romantic Farm Home was the highlight of our week in Italy for relaxation and good food and beauty. It is a very old farmhouse (roman well inside!) that has been tastefully added onto off the back. In early June we were able to do laps in the outdoor pool and eat our breakfast on the patio. At the end of the lane where the bed and breakfast is situated is a well marked walking path/road/ area where we walked all one morning with views and lovely poppies and flowering trees along the way. Another day we spent in nearby Todi. We visited Orvieto and Civita de Bagneregio before arriving there. Deruta and Assisi are relatively nearby, too. It was hard to say goodbye after our 3 nights there. Our room was spacious with gorgeous colors, antiques and views. The reception staff, Violetta or Francesa, spoke good English and were very helpful. Breakfast, which was included in the cost, was buffet-style with cereal, eggs, coffee or tea, hot and cold milk, pastries, toast, yogurt and you could ask for anything that was missing. We had dinner there one night (sign up for it by 5 p.m. each day) that was a set 35 euro menu (not including wine) and was absolutely delicious. The setting is convivial to talking with your fellow guests and we moved with another couple to the spacious living room after dinner to finish our wine. There were other couples there as well as several families. But it was very quiet. There are some pets around including a dog and a parrot that seem to like people. The only 2 drawbacks are that you would need a car to get there because it is off the beaten path (we had a rental car) and the signage and directions could use improvement, especially if you are trying to find it like we were in the dark! The written directions could be more detailed, too. We usually stay in 2-3 star hotels and this was a very special treat- well worth the extra cost. I have already recommended it to others.
