The property is dated approx . 1200 DC , was originally a convent with nuns of the order of S.Prospero (still in Siena today)till 1504 when the famous Tolomei family of Siena converted into a farm.


The Gentile’s bought the very derilict farm in 1988 and converted into the present charming ”Holiday Farmhouse Residence” taking much care to retain the orginal features.

Podere La Castellina is situated in the beautiful countryside near Sovicille, just 18 km west of Siena and within easy reach of S:Gimignano 30km famous for the numerous towers and connected to the war between Siena and Florence, Monteriggioni 22km a Crown Castle with shops, Hotels and medioeval church. S.Galgano connected to King Arthur with the sword in the stone.Volterra 32km, Florence 49 km away and Assisi 110km.

The property has a lovely 12 x 6 swimming pool surrounded by sun terrace which boast breathtaking panoramic views and sun chairs.

There is also a very large terrace with bar-be-que and further panoramic views, there is no better relax than sipping a glass of Chianti o Brunello while admiring the beautiful gentle hills of Tuscany and its sunset.

How to reach Farmhouse Podere La Castellina

By car
DIRECTIONS from NORTH - A 1 Motorway MILANO BOLOGNA FIRENZE ROMA. and Pisa to: “ PODERE LA ASTELLINA.

Exit PISA airport following the blue sign for FIRENZE and join the dual carriageway Superstrada
Proceed for approx 70 kms in the direction of FIRENZE and turn off at the green sign for autostrada A 1 MILANO BOLOGNA ROMA. enter the autostrada (motorway). Proceed in the direction of Roma for 7kms and exit at FIRENZE CERTOSA .(From Florence airport as well 2nd exit Certosa) Having - paid the your toll take the right turn at the sign of SIENA

Proceed down this dual carriageway for approx 41 kms and exit at COLLE VAL D’ELSA SUD (not Colle Val D’elsa ) Follow signs for GROSSETO by-pass the village of GRACCIANO, still follow the signs for GROSSETO.

Continue on this road . SS541 for 8 kms after which you will pass a Total petrol station on your left bar Indios and ristorante La SPERANZA on your right.
Drive a further 4 km passing an “IP” petrol station on your right. You will pass the turning for PIEVISCOLA and a little cement work on your left. After an other 4 km approx. you will find a group of restored farmhouses, on your right called “BORGO POGGIACCIO”.

The road curves right and then left and after the two bend there is a long stretch of straight road. Proceed along this road for approx 1 km and just before the end adjacent to another cement work, take the left turn sign posted LA CASTELLINA (a small sign hung on the umbrella shaped pine tree)
Proceed up this un-made track for 1500 metres , passing a derelict farmhouse. Drive up to “PODERE LA CASTELLINA (third left )to unload your luggage and then drive to the car park to leave your car. (Please drive very slow in first gear up the step drive way – WILD LIFE CROSSING

When you arrive check-in with Mr Gentile who lives in the Barn left on top of stairs facing the s/pool – .Checking time from 15.00 TO 18.00 HRS - if delayed please tel 0577 345617 –
it is important to arrive in time because is difficult to find the place in the dark

A refundable Deposit of 100 euro cash is payable to the owner on arrival –

WE recommend the large Supermarket COOP in POGGIBONSI is next to the Superstrada, easy in and out plenty car park outside and underground in the shade, good if you have luggage with you.

YOU COME OFF ON THE 2nd EXIT OF POGGIBONSI (NOT NORD) and it is just round the right corner- Lovely selection of fresh cooked food, try the roast chicken or pork with gravy cheap and testy, also a large selection of wines beers and spirits.

DIRECTIONS FROM SOUTH to “ PODERE LA CASTELLINA”

Take direction to ROMA and carry on motorway towards NORTH ( Firenze ) come out at BETTOLLE – SINALUNGA and proceed for SIENA – do not come out take direction to GROSSETO and come out on the third exit called ORGIA, proceed on this road passing the villages of STIGLIANO and TORRI on your left till the village of ROSIA – Stop on the cross road, Bar La Pergola on your right hand corner. – Follow at directions “A”.


From ROME FIUMICINO Airport; Exit from airport take motorway direction ROMA after few kms exit at green signs for CIVITAVECCHIA at the end of motorway proceed in the Via AURELIA , stay on this road to GROSSETO, pass various exit until you see the sign for SIENA.

Take directions to SIENA ,and approx. 20 kms before you will see an AGIP petrol station on your right followed by a rice field , proceed for an other 6-7 km until you see signs on your left for ORGIA- turn left and ORGIA proceed on this road passing the villages of STIGLIANO and TORRI on your left till the village of ROSIA stop on the cross road , Bar La Pergola on the right hand corner. …..”A”

“A” Proceed ahead, (do not turn right for Siena), after 4 /5 kms of twisting road you will come to a right turn, in the middle there is a column called COLONNA DI MONTEARRENTI turn right on this road SS541 directions to Firenze/Colle Val D’elsa.

Proceed on this road for exactly 2.8 km , after passing the turning for TONNI carry on and you will see a small red house on your right followed by an marble grinder and old farmhouse , after the bend you are in a long stretch of road after 200 meters turn sharp right, on a(umbrella shaped) pine tree there is sign post for PODERE LA CASTELLINA, proceed up this un-made track for 1500 meters , passing the marble grinder and the old farmhouse till destination which is third on the left.
