At first, this hotel seems like a mistake - it's hard to find (BE SURE TO PRINT OFF A MAP), the road leading in is severely rutted, and the whole thing looks a bit overgrown. But the couple who own and run the place are delightful and helpful, the pool and sitting areas are very inviting, the provided breakfast satisfying, the rooms quiet and servicable (if a bit dated). By the end, our whole family liked the place very much and were sad to go. It is also, once you figure out the routes, very accessible to Sintra, Cascais, and other great attractions of this area. NOTE: hotel does not accept credit cards, bring cash.

The facility was full of character as befits a 300 year old manor house. However, some things need improvement- no air-conditioning yet no window screens nor ceiling fans either (would be very warm in the heat of summer); carpets are threadbare in areas; immediate landscaping is ill-maintained; window frames are rotting with peeling paint; no TVs in room, only single tiny TV in common area (misleading); no internet reception (easy to implement with a suitable wireless router). We however enjoyed our host Luis who was gracious, knowledgeable and friendly. If they were to make some small, inexpensive improvements as I suggest above, including compiling a list of "things to do in the area", complete with estimated time allotment and marked on a local map, along with recommended restaurants, bank locations etc, they could ask for more (and easily get more) as they offer one of very few bed and breakfast facilities in a gorgeous part of Europe. The entrance alley is also hard to find so better directions and sign posting would be helpful. I would return if suggested improvements are made. Sincerely,

If you want to really enjoy your stay at Rio de Mouro, you just have to meet 3 requirements: - loving old country family houses with the charm of its old walls and the romantism of its non-so-much curated garden..but also its humidity and the essential comfort of it. - going there when the outside temperature is more than 15-20°C because the house is very cold and wet - having a GPS in car or stamp and study the map or having the courage to ask people for your road. Personaly I do love old country houses and I was delighted by my 4 days stay in Rio de Mouro. The host was very kind and helpful (gave precious councils and indication for our stay in Lisbonna and Sintra trip) The room was clean, light, and spacious The bathroom was a little oldy but comfortable The breakfast was good and nourrishing enough for our hunger

The Rooms are very clean, Bath is not so clean. The Price is not at the same level as the Service. There are many better Pensaos in the near area with a much better surrounding
