We loved the location (when we finally found the place), and the owners and all the other guests were very friendly. But, even though we are used to heat as we live in South Carolina, we were there during a heatwave and without A/C or even a fan we were very uncomfortable and ended up leaving a day earlier than we'd planned. We would certainly recommend the Agriturismo- just not in July or August.

This hotel is far from center. You need to have a car to go around. It's kind of farmhouse stay but no breakfast included. So where can you find anything to eat in the morning as we were in the middle of farm. However the place is nice and quiet and very big room.

Beautiful stay and very good service. We wished we had stayed there longer. The view from our room was spectacular. The Cathedral in town was our favorite of all Italy.

A very nice property indeed. Only 5 minutes drive from the historical city centre of Siena, 5 minutes from the nearest Coop supermarket - a very nice venture point for any scenic trip. The only sour point is the staff's insisting on paying with cash even though credit cards are supposedly accepted.

We visited Siena as a group of 4 adults and a 14yo and the shared room with ensuite suited our budget and overnight visit. Malafrasca would be ideal for a couple of families or couples travelling together if all 3 guest rooms/whole apartment was booked for the group. It was very easy to find, but being out of town, would not be convenient for those without their own transport. We loved staying out of the city. Take mosquito repellant if you are visiting in summer and need to have the windows open. Hosts were wonderful and very welcoming as well as giving us assistance with local info & ordering home delivery pizza for our dinner. It was very relaxing on the large outdoor deck of an evening. Will happily visit Malafrasca again, but next time for longer.

Enjoyed a wonderful 3 week stay in an extremely comfortable room with an excellent bed and adequately appointed kitchen facilities. Our hosts were helpful, eager to please, and respectful of our privacy. The expansive outdoor deck facilities added to the ambiance by enabling us to meet and soialize with other travellers to Siena and enjoy the moonlight, sunshine and gorgeous olive trees and grapevines of the farm as well as beautiful hillside views.

We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed Siena very much (we were there for the palio !). We stayed at the castle Malafrascia (?). When we arrived we got a map and very useful information re sights in the area. Very friendly reception. The castle itself is also beautiful, very quiet, not far from Siena (10 ' by car), easy parking,.. It was a perfect stay for us : we enjoyed Siena very much as well as our stay at the castle !

An absoutely breathtaking location. The owners were very friendly and helpful with maps, directions, and suggestions on places to go, and where to drive around in Tuscany. Rooms were large, well-appointed and clean. Common area with terrace, kitchenette and dining area were outstanding. The only drawback is that it is a little out of town for quick trips to the grocery store or restaurants. We should have planned better by stopping by a market to pick up food and beverages before the evening hit (even the large Coop and Pam grocery stores in Siena proper close at 2100 and don't open again until 0800). Otherwise it would have been perfect!

We loved Malafrasca. it is ideal being only a short distance into siena, yet still having the amazing views of the tuscan countryside. Simone & Luisa were welcoming and helpful. in Siena eat at la fonte giusta. all in all a great place to stay. it was so nice to come back to a quiet, peaceful lodging at the end of hectic days.

We spend 4 nights at Malafrasca farmhouse. It is a very nice place between vine yards, close to Siena. They provide a shared kitchen for the guests with a very beautiful outside terrace for a relaxed breakfast. Everything was perfect except the bed. The bed was so soft, that it was impossible for us to share this bed. We were lucky, because we had two small additional beds inside the room so we used these beds.

This accommodation was very nice, located in picturesque country near Siena. The view from the terrace is beautiful and we enjoyed our coffee and croissant (which we purchased at a grocery in Siena) out there every day of our stay. There were a couple of drawbacks. If you have a problem negotiating stairs, please note that there are 27 stairs to the terrace rooms – worth it for the view. We understand there is another room (without a view) on the ground level. Another drawback is that the walls are thin so if there is a baby crying or someone coughing in the next room, you can hear it easily. Fortunately this was only a problem for half of our stay, and we thoroughly enjoyed the rest of our time there which turned out to be one of the most relaxing periods of our trip. Part of the farmhouse’s charm is that it is not a full service hotel with a concierge. (However, if you need to find a laundromat, you’d best research that before you arrive.) The family is sweet and charming and greeted us with a glass of wine. Mama cleans the rooms and hangs the linens on a line to dry. Papa makes wine. Elena speaks English and handles the business. We felt quite comfortable asking for directions. They recommended places for dinner and also suggested driving routes to and from the Chianti region for a wine country exploration.

We loved the location, accommodations and the family who met us when we arrived and made our stay a wonderful one. We stayed in a lovely room above the family's living quarters and had a lovely view of Tuscany. The owners were so gracious we hated to leave. We would return again if possible. The site is convenient, although outside, of the city of Siena, but it is possible to travel with little difficulty by bus or taxi (very reasonable) if you don't have a rental car. We would definitely recommend this place to others. We cooked several meals and enjoyed some of the olive oil and wine made on the premises.

Wonderful and very welcoming people. The location is amazing with superb views over the Tuscany hills. You will need a car to get here. It is easy to drive to teh City Gates (Porta Ovale) and park there. But the best thing is the surrounding Chianti hills and the mountains to the South.

Malafrasca was an absolutely enchanting property. The view from the balcony of our room looked as if it were taken from a postcard. All of the staff was so kind and always very eager to help with any directions or suggestions and somehow we managed to communicate with part English and part Italian. This farmhouse was perfect for 3 couples, because we could share the common space and kitchen. The surroundings were beautiful. You cannot walk to town, even though it's close...no walkways or road shoulders. The bus comes to the bottom of the hill, so we made that work. It was awesome.

I was travelling with my partner and his mother and sister. The view was spectacular. It was great to sit outside and have breakfast in the morning. The rooms were clean and the owners were very friendly. Overall, the stay was a pleasant one. There were quite alot of mosquitos at night which prevented us from sitting outside the first night we were there. However, the second night we bought some Insect repellent and a citronella candle and sat outside with a glass of wine. Great!

La Toscane naturelle. The taxi to downtown is expensive. Les taxis jusqu'au centre-ville sont dispendieux. Wi-fi is a must, if you want to be in contact with home. That was a downer. No Wi-FI. We loved Malafrasca! We felt like we had our own Tuscan villa. The bedroom was quite large and we awoke to a breathtaking view of the Tuscan countryside outside our window! Though there is no breakfast, there is a kitchen fully stocked with coffee, refrigerator and utensils. We bought some breakfast items and dined on our terrace overlooking vineyards and fields of olive trees. The elderly owners are very sweet, but don't speak English; their adult children do, so that wasn't a problem. They welcome you with a glass of their homemade wine. You need a car to stay here. It is only 2 kilometers outside of Siena and was a perfect base for touring around Tuscany. We stayed 4 days and we hated leaving! The only criticism was poor lighting in our room, which made reading difficult.

This was an incredible spot to tour Sienna and the Tuscan - even the Umbrian region. The Malafrasca owners were so welcoming - greeting us with a local port. After meeting the family we took our own bags up the stairs and settled into our room with a view! And what a view it was!! The room was so spacious and we slept with the windows open every night. It was great. Note that the shower was a bit tight (small) but totally doable. We rented a car from the Avis in Sienna proper and that was great. A Taxi into town will cost you about $10US. You NEED a car to get around. Ask the owner to give you one of their maps of the region - it was much better then the one I paid for. Also - buy some wine, cheese and grapes (maybe some coffee) and be sure to enjoy sitting out on the deck. The view is spectacular. Wake up at 5:00am one day and watch the sun come up and the mist settle over the foothills... it will leave you breathless. Enjoy Sienna after 5:00pm - thats when the locals come out and the tourists depart. And have an Alexander in the square... :)

We recommend Malafrasca to anyone who is visiting the Siena area and wants to experience the beautiful Tuscan countryside firsthand. The owners/operators were a delight, greeting us with samples of their fantastic homemade wine, which we bought several bottles of, and taking time to chat and give driving directions to us as we checked out. Our rooms were extremely clean, and we particularly liked the completely non-smoking environment. This is the perfect place for those who are looking for rest and relaxation—we could not have imagined a more peaceful, or scenic, location. Also consider dining at Osteria Titti, for outstanding food at a fair price, if looking for dinner in nearby Siena.

This was fantastic - probably our favorite place during our entire stay. And great value too. We rented a car and had directions from the reservation confirmation and found it with no problems - took us about 10 minutes from the car rental place. The owners (Elena and her folks) were amazing - Elena spoke great English and we managed to communite with her Dad a bit (who also speaks french) and her mom (who speaks Italian). They gave us some of their Vin Santo while we were there. Tasty - be sure to get a bottle while visiting them. As well, we had access to the kitchen in the common area which is stocked with plates/utensils/sink etc. Great for making a snack for sitting out on the patio with a bottle of Brunello. The olive trees and vineyard was such a peaceful place and it was nice walking through the yard as the sun was slipping behind the tuscan hills. We loved it so much we stayed an extra night. This place was picture perfect!

We absolutely loved our stay at Malafrasca. The host family was very gracious. Their dessert wine was wonderful with the incredible fresh biscotti we found at a little bakery down the road. The views and the countryside surrounding Malafrasca were stunning and the air the sweetest I have ever smelled. We were a family of four that were using trains and buses and not driving. The bus to Siena is easily accessed at the end of their driveway and is only a 10 minute ride but the service is limited. There is better bus service down the road but it can be dangerous walking on the narrow winding road (no shoulders and lots of traffic). There was a wonderful pizza delivery that we used that delivered real Italian pizza to our door. The kitchen facilites are adequate. For the gourmands there is a wonderful restaurant next to Malafrasca (four star type). We did not eat there but other guests did and all thought it was exceptional. One of my favorite memories of our three week trip to Italy and France was sitting on Malafrasca's wonderful terrace drinking wine (from Malafrasca of course) and visiting with couples from Norway and Finland well into the night.

Malafrasca is an absolute gem. This was the favorite place we stayed out of our entire trip. The family was so welcoming and helpful. Our favorite thing to do was to sit on the terrace overlooking the hills of Chianti and sip the wine that they produce at Malafrasca. It is easy to start your journey through Chianti from here, and it sits at the edge of Siena, which is also fun to explore. We can't wait to go back! The one thing you should be prepared for is no air conditioning, which was not a problem as the breeze comes through nicely at night, at least in June.

The place did not have so many rooms and other guests, so it was a very restful stay. The room were clean, even tidy, it was fresh, and it looked overall well run. The owners were friendly and nice. Although none of us speaks any italian, we had a 20 minute conversation with the lady of the house over an espresso, and she ONLY spoke italian! The room had a mini-bar, which gave us access to a fridge in the room. For guests staying more than one night, you will also have access to a kitchenette, which provides for everything you need to make breakfast or a simple meal. On the outside we had access to a large veranda, which had a breathtaking view over the Tuscany countryside. I think it is demonstrated by one of the pictures in the description on this site. The place is a little off, but within 1000m there is a bus stop, and the buses run at least every 30 minutes during day time. Even closer, there is another bus stop, but this one only runs a few times each day. We took a photo of the time tables in the digital camera, which turned out very useful. We wouldn't recommend biking or walking along the italian roads. They are very narrow, without space for bikers/pedestrians, and the traffic is quite heavy. Having access to a car adds value to your Tuscany vacation! Nearby Malafrasca, there is a restaurant, 'Casa Mia', that serves good, italian food. The prices are not low, but you get at least what you pay for, and the service is top class, at the least. You need to book a table in advance. For only 80 Euros per night at this establishment, you get a memorable holiday. We also spent an additional night in the nearby castle Monteliscai, which played some importand role in the history 700 years ago. There, the rooms were even better, at the same rate! The view over the countryside was not as good, though. The cooking facilities held a little lower standard, but this was an incredibly calm place, which we also recommend.

This a family run operation located only 1 1/2 kilmeters from Sienna. We had no trouble finding Malfrasca, but had read other posts and followed their directions. It is actually well signed and as long as you know to keep driving past the old house on the property you will find Malfrasca. We were warmly welcomed by the family even though we showed up a little earlier than expected and our room wasn't quite ready. Our room was excellent and very spacious. There was a common area and a small kitchen for our use. We had wonderful views of the surrounding Tuscan countryside from our room and the huge deck outside our room. We were only able to stay for two nights, but would not hesitate to stay a week or more here as Malfrasca is a wonderful place. We highly recommend it.

We stayed at Malafrasca for a few days in mid-September 2005. This is a wonderful find in the heart of Siena and an excellent base for exploring Siena proper, which is just 15 minutes away (you can call for a taxi). However if you have a car, you can more easily explore the Chianti countryside, San Gimignano and further away, Florence. Our group were made immediately welcome upon arrival by the owner's daughter with glasses of their own vin santo. As a party of 6 we had the entire second-floor flat to ourselves. The rooms were spotless, charmingly decorated and the views of the Tuscan countryside were nothing short of stunning. Each room was quiet, sunny and airy with perfect views. With cooking facilities provided we were able to make dinner and breakfast whenever we felt like it. It's places like Malafrasca (where the quality of accommodation combine with warm, charming hosts) that make you want to stay away from big impersonal hotels forever. Luisa, Giovanni, Elena and Simone helped make our Tuscan holiday truly memorable.

I should have heeded the info from others about trying to find this place. Unfortunately this part outweighted the good parts of the place. We literally spent hours driving around in circles trying to find this place. Asking at gas stations and others for directions didn't help much either. Most everyone didn't know a highway S408 and the street name is used twice in the city at different locations! Twice we got lost finding this place (we stayed 2 nights) and were totally frustrated to say the least! We didn't get home till 2 am one night after driving around for 2+ hours and had to pick up 3 girls that didn't speak much English to help us find it....they weren't even sure either. The place is lovely and the people wonderful but again not worth the frustration and energy to find it. They should have better more CLEAR directions on the website. The farmhouse in on a wineyard that also produces olive oil. They let 3 rooms in the upstairs of their house. WE had a roomwith 3 beds and a bath (small) with doors that open up onto a nice porch and a nice window view also. Room had a small TV with a small refrig. There is a communal area with a table/couch and a small kitchen for all to use. Again shame it was so hard to find because it was a nice place and the people were really nice. (note no lift....many steps up to rooms)

We enjoyed our stay at Malafrasca tremendously and would any time go back. Had a hard time of finding the place the first time. A good hint is to look for the Hospital, there are really good indications to get you to the hospital, and from there it isn't far to Malafrasca. The view and surroundings is just amazing, We ate watermelon on the veranda with the sunset, simply lovely. No aircon, but really neat and fully equipped rooms. We would recommend the place to anyone going to Siena.

We travelled with another couple who we hadn't seen for many years and felt this place was a wonderful find, although actually 'finding' Malafrasca proved quite difficult and a little frustrating. However, once we were settled into our rooms and sat out on the balcony to take in the stunning vista our host and her daughter appeared 'out of nowhere' with a welcoming glass of wine and we quickly unwound. Rooms were lovely with lots of windows to ensure a nice cool flow of air through the apartment. We had use of the kitchen to prepare breakfast before setting out each morning to explore the wonderful countryside (there's a huge Coop Supermarket near the railway station for all your supplies). Siena, just a short drive away, is absolutely magnificent it's like strolling through a rennaisance painting! We also found a fabulous (though fairly upmarket) restaurant just a 10 minute walk (towards Siena) from Malafrasca - great atmosphere, terrific service by a friendly young couple and food to melt your heart.

This is a wonderful place to stay with absolutely gorgeous views. The only issue was finding it. They tell you to come up 408, but there are no road signs indicating where 408 is. It took us 2 hours circling around Siena & three phone calls to get directions before we finally made it. It's definitely worth it once you get there...

The room itself was absolute wonderful, the noise came from the road into Sienna which runs in front of the house.

This was my favorite stay on our trip. The views of olive groves, vinyards, and Tuscan hills from our room and terrace were spectacular; everything we'd hoped for. The peacefulness was soothing after hectic days of travel. We took wonderful walks in the gorgeous countryside. It was nice to have the kitchen available (for anyone staying more than one night). The hosts were welcoming and very helpful; even giving us a ride to the train station. We arrived by bus with no problems, thanks to the instructions provided when making the reservation, and could easily catch the bus into Sienna. I would love to return and recommend it highly; especially if you can stay for several days to enjoy the surroundings.

This was by far the best accomodation that we enjoyed during our trip to Europe. The rooms were huge, clean, delightfully furnished, scented towels, terrific view, common area including indoor and outdoor seating, kitchen, cooking facilities, etc. This property is a huge value. Downsides-directions/tough to find, no breakfast, 1.5 km to Siena. Perfect, however, if you have a car or are a hiker. I would definitely stay here again and hope to return with my entire family some day.

We had a wonderful time at Malafrasca. People in this family are so wonderful and so kind, Dad, Mom, Simone and Ellena, make us feel at home. They so welcoming and help us seeing the beautiful side of the Italian family. The house is absolutely clean and conveniently located in Chianti and very close to Sienna. The kitchen is very handy. The view from the balcony is absolutely beautiful. It’s in a central location to all the Tuscany hill towns. We believe that we experienced much more than we have expected. We will definitely return to Malafrasca next time in Tuscany.

Finding the place is tricky. The Malafrasca sign is clearly visible on S408. Once you drive up the small road it will fork, and you will take the right one (the left one takes you to a bar). What's tricky is that at the end of the road there is a pretty shabby old house, and the property is behind the old house so you need to drive up the dirt road that seemly cuts through the old house's front yard. Don't expect to get help from the owner of the old house because they are quite unfriendly. Once you are checked in nothing can be more satisfying. The place is just gorgeous and the pictures they posted on the web site does not do justice. Owner and her parents are great. My room (#1) faces east and I can watch sunrise over Tuscany landscape every day. The price I was quoted did not inlcude breakfast but small inconvenience comparing to the others, besides there is a kitchen you can use.

I absolutely loved this place. Big rooms, nice kitchen and main room, all with an absolutely fabulous view. Even without a car, it wasn't too hard to find once we figured out the bus system. We even got a lift to the train station on the day we left. I highly recommend this hotel.

Everything we expected and more. Staff was helpful and friendly. Rooms were spacious and clean - the cleanest we had during our entire 2 week trip. Somewhat difficult to find, but signs are there if you're watching for them. Great location and good value. Would definitely stay there again.

My sister and I marveled at the beauty of Malafrasca. Our hosts were delightful. I cannot wait to return. One suggestion, however. We had a difficult time finding our way to Malafrasca. Apparently there are two roads near Siena with the same name but different numbers. I would suggest a detailed map with directions there.

These people are wonderful and the experience of being in their company was delightful. Jovonni & Louisa and their adult children Simone and (daughter whom we were not introduced to stoped & talked to us in our native tounge) were some of the best we experienced in Italy. The location was a little diffulcult for us to uncover but a phone call to them at our time of difficulty led us to the right location quickly. The rooms were clean and accomidating. The total experience was better than we expected! We would return here again if the oppertunity presented itself!

Malafrasca was very difficult to find. The two children of the family who owned the property spoke english and helped us navigate to the hotel. We also had to take a bus to and from the property, which was confusing as well. I do not recommend staying here if you do not have a car to go to and from Siena and to seek food. We had no dinner one night because it was so far from everything and the only restaurant within walking distance (Casa Mia) would not serve us or send us food to go. Granted, it was the weekend for Palio, but some noodles or a salad or something to go would have been nice. Unfortunately, communication that night was near impossible as the two english speaking children were not home. This is in a VERY pretty place however. It is a chianti vineyard and is quiet, peaceful and charming and I imagine, if we'd had a car, the stay would've been much more enjoyable.

A welcoming drink, spacious room and wonderful terrasse to take breakfast, in a separeted buiding from owners, this stay was of high quality. Unfortunately we had not the time to taste the local wine and olive oil but this place is worth staying in. 5 min by car from the city walls, quite a sport though to park near the center without paying a fortune.

This is excellent for a nice laid back out of the way stay .Very close to Siena by car and one of the most beautiful views of Italian countryside you will ever see! We sat out on the private spacious balconey all evening with a glass of their own chiati and fell in love again. IT is hard to find and I suggest the owners upgrade their map and the owners English was not the best but I wasn't there to hear English and thia little farm house is a great value and we would return.
